I’ve been going into the foyleside cafe for years as I work across the street so it’s convenient to pick up a morning coffee or pop over for lunch for years I’ve received 10% off as one time the girl said I could because I worked close by , the staff and food have always been fantastic .. until today I was completely taken back with the sheer attitude of one of the employees, I ordered my lunch , at the till I explained I had been receiving the discount ( like seriously why would I even make it up it’s all of 70p ffs ) The girl then rolled her eyes and said “are you sure that’s right I’ve asked my boss and she said it’s only for employees in the store) she then slammed my box down on her side of the counter which I had to reach across for while she just stood looking at me with the most unpleasant face, I then explained I have never recieved such poor costumer service and been spoken to so rudely I get it if the discount is just for employees in the store , but how would I have even know about it .. this information could have been given in a better way. Without me leaving feeling insulted . I will never be back and I will be sure to tell the rest of my colleagues and friends about my experience!! This girl really needs some training on people stills !!

Same meal for two every week with different prices depending on who is serving. It’s this fella in Newtown abbey who charges us £4 extra everytime he is serving. We enjoy the meal but getting my eye wiped leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

My friend and I go to Synge nByrne two days every week I love the food and the staff of course know us well and they enjoy making us so welcome However my friend and I were left quite upset today by the staff member who we assume is a manager He has absolutely no customer service manner I excused his abrupt manner when placing our order but he just went too far with his bad attitude when he told us to drink up and leave I’m so sorry to complain but my day was just ruined and I wonder if he would have used that attitude to a male customer Ramona Chambers

This has been our go to place for years but things have got gradually worse. The ciabatta has changed, first they ditched the sundried tomato for salad tomato which is soggy when heated. They have cut down on the pesto changed the pancetta for cheap bacon and use cheap cheese instead of the mozzarella and now I can't even have decaf tea as they can't get the tea bags. Prices have increased but quality has got worse. Come on Synge and Byrne dont fix sonething that is not broken.

Shame to rate so low as it’s a popular place but it all went wrong from the start. Walked in with a happy ‘morning’ and was ignored. Stood by till and ignored. Young man took my food order and drinks so I sat down. He then said I had to order drinks from ‘Sarah?’ So I did and paid. 2 vegetarian breakfasts. Disgusting. Sausages were cold and tasteless, bread stodgy eggs ok. No Worcestershire sauce…..you serious!!?? Coffee weak. The staff all seemed a bit chaotic, if not very chaotic and seemed more interested in gossiping out the back. Plates left in front of us for 15 minutes. We left.

What an awful lunch!!! Menu has changed so much - the only positive was the coffee. Quiche and 2 salads ordered - salad selection poor but picked 2. On arrival at table - quiche so hot it burnt my mouth - mixed leaves had no dressing and were wilted and certainly past their best! Other salad was an uninteresting tomato and pepper salad - again quite stale ingredients - tomatoes mushy and some pepper strips were turning black!! Inedible - so easy to get salads right!! What a pity things have changed here for the worse. If I return will only order coffee.

Stopped today with 3 generations of family. Food was pre made and as an adult (with dairy and fats restrictions) I was unable to find anything suitable on the menu. There is no on request options unless you are 12 years or under. I ordered a cheese sandwich for my 5 year old niece which was inedible. When it arrived I had to even ask for the bread to be buttered. Food ordered by other adults in the party was bland. The teapot and cups were lovely just a real shame about the food. The staff were disinterested - very poor service. Beautiful setting but unfortunately won't be back.

The interior reminded me a little of those heady days back in the (Manchester) Haçienda, good start. The food choice, just like the Haçienda, was pleasingly different, I enjoyed a delightfully tasty ciabatta stuffed with chorizo and other Mediterranean deights complete with three salads. My other half had "the best scrambled egg ever" - complete with chunky brown toast. We're both fans of apple pie, and to our delight on display were a huge slices of Apple pie with cinnamon and raisins, duly ordered and with a dollop of cream.

The service in Synge and Byrne was good, very friendly and knowledgeable. I had a Java peppermint tea which was very nice. The server stumbled when I told her my dietary requirements in which I don't eat pork or dairy products. The only thing they had on offer, was the soup of the day as the salads and sandwiches are surprising all pre-prepared. Every single item on the menu seemed to have cheese, which I thought was ridiculous. The soup was nice in texture but overly sweet.

Requested sugar for my drink and was informed by one member of staff that there should be sugar on my table. I pointed out that there was not and he told me to just look on another table. Not the standard of customer service I would expect in an establishment such as this. Another staff member seeing me at a loss promptly provided me with the sugar. I feel a little guilty leaving such a low review as service here was nice. Friendly staff. But I ordered a beef stew, which was on their special list and I therefore hoped was freshly made. The stew was served with a side of bread. I chose sourdough. I paid for my food and went to a not-overly-clean seat and table (no excuse as place was half empty). At first glance, the stew looked ok, but a couple of bites in and I felt so disappointed. There was hardly a piece of "beef" in my "beef stew" which was mainly potato and carrot. What beef I did find was burned to a cinder and the whole stew tasted awful because of this. I turned to my bread in the hope of finding a solution to my hunger, only to find I had been served stale bread! The bread had come out of a plastic bread bin and it was definitely not fresh that day! On the plus side, as soon as I made a complain I got an instant refund. But a good stew and fresh bread would have been better!

My husband and I visited this café for a cooked breakfast. The premises were clean, bright and in good order. The food itself was a complete disappointment. The sausage was completely pale, with one brown stripe. The mushrooms were shrivelled and were dried out. The eggs were burnt on the bottom on both servings. The "toast" was basically warm bread. Our beverages were half finished by the time the meal arrived. This fry cost £6.95 and perhaps would have been worth the money had it been cooked from fresh. We will not be returning.

Went here last weekend for an early lunch, I.got the sundried tomato quiche with mixed left salad and noodle salad, food is so gorgeous if a tiny bit pricey. I was able to sit and read while having my lunch without being disturbed! Would definitely recommend!!

Had afternoon tea here on Thursday. Booked the Derry Girls tea and was very dissapointed that although the afternoon tea is still advertised with the "Michelle Duck" it no longer comes with one. We especially booked a stay at this hotel to avail of this so it was a shame.

Claudes Cafe 4 Shipquay Street in Derry is one place to have a good cup of Coffee and a Lovely Breakfast. The Staff are Amazing and the prices are not to High at all.
