Sweet Afton Bar & Kitchen in Belfast

During my time here the bar staff were over pricing drinks despite it being 'Happy Hour'. I let this slide for 2x rounds of drinks before asking them about the prices on the 3rd round of drinks. After asking, the price dropped from £16 to £12. I'll give this place a miss next time.

Group of us on a visit to Belfast dropped in for a meal and a drink. Felt a little over priced for bar food but the food was quite good.

What a place!! The staff, the food and the beer are all first class, they really made us feel so welcome!! We ordered the Pil Pil Prawns which were amazing, I got the big double chicken burger while my wife had the brisket wrap, washed down with on-par Peroni and Pinot Grigio. Very enjoyable experience and thank you for looking after us!

Live music was wonderful, friendly staff especially Sebastian who made us feel so welcome.

Another classic northern Irish pub, great atmosphere, great drinks, great food!! We loved this place!!

Went out for my first meal in Belfast here. Burger was great with a beer. Service was a little slow, but they were busy as well.

Had the Sweet Afton burger, wasn't great especially for the price tag (£20 🤯). Staff were excellent. Didn't really enjoy the guy singing tonight, good guitarist. Not the best vocals, although we sat under the speaker

Had dinner on drinks on a Saturday night,all tables were full so service was slow but lovely food and great cocktails

Last minute booking by one of the lads. Very good, especially considering the lack of time to get this arranged for the seven of us.

Was there watching the football on my birthday and ciara the waitress was very kind and helpful, nothing was too much hassle.My partner had the Korean wrap which was lovely and I'd the chicken burger. Food was nice especially their chips and dips that came with the mains. I had a few long island ice teas and they were a delight. Sometimes they can be hit and miss at certain places but I would recommend them here. Staff are very friendly and place overall is clean. Toilets were clean. If I had to be picky the only thing I'd say is it was a bit cold in the place and they had portable heaters out but ut didn't seem to help. Although the more long island ice teas I had the warmer I got lol.

Really nice food at Xmas party with work bit noisy though.

Had our Xmas lunch here, food was top class - catered well for those with dietary requirements. Service was very good indeed.

Staff went above and beyond, were very accommodating and checked on us, even during the rush of Christmas Staff Dinner parties on a Friday. Food was great too!

my friends and i went and was over charged. once my friend went over to he bar to question why she was overcharged she got called abuisive and we all got kicked out. disappointed in their service.

What can I say other than I'll never be back. The lack of manners from bar staff left something to be desired. You often hear of the hospitality sector saying how times are difficult so you would think that when people do come through the doors they would be "looked after" There's a lot I could write regarding our "experience" but I'll not embarrass them.

Had the best night here meeting up with friends. Bar staff and door staff were very pleasant and the music was great.

I am very surprised that after attending Sweet Afton for a work event, one of my colleagues was denied entry after a smoke break due to being “aggressive”. He was merely telling another patron that he was too drunk and to move after making a pass at one of my female friends. I am really disgusted by the behaviour of the bouncers. We were forced to eat our Christmas dinner outside after paying money for this. One of the female bartenders also ridiculed me for accidentally bumping into someone. I would not recommend spending your money here. We work in customer service and were very surprised by the passive aggressive attitude displayed at this establishment. If you want to drink in a place that is unwelcoming you may as well go here.

Can be very busy especially after work so can be a bit of a wait at the bar and as people sit at the bar can be hard to get served but that's fairly typical I suppose, but also hard to get a seat, it's definitely nicer when it's quiet so mid afternoon before 4.30pm, has larger outdoor smoking after but it's not covered so if it's raining it's not great

Popped in a few times for a drink but never for something to eat. Decent enough bar

Great cosy bar , with live music !

The drinks did not arrive until the main course. The starter portion of pork belly was terrible value for money with 3 below par pieces at £8.50. The turkey and ham main course was delicious and good value. Toilets had no soap and were of poor standard. Won't be back.

Me and my partner went in last week scallops and goats cheese wow great our favourite went in today didn’t disappoint service was great. Amy who served us last week made us feel comfortable and is very good at what she does great job will definitely return 💯

Lovely family meal! Cocktails are £9! Food was delicious and something for everyone. I had the scallop and prawn risotto and it was perfect. Ciara was fab - so attentive and great craic.

Great spot that was recommended last minute by one of the staff of the Europa when we told him what kind of place we were looking for. We were looking for a comfortable rustic bar with a good atmosphere (not too quiet as we had a couple of 10 year olds in the group) and with really good quality food and drinks. This was exactly what we were looking for, atmosphere was perfect, music playing but not too loud at all, staff were brilliant, unbelievably attentive and really quick with drinks orders and any requests we had, service was definitely 5 stars for us on this particular experience. Quite a strong menu, there was a lot of stuff I wanted to order, basically I would have eaten anything off the menu which is always good, not too experienced with prices in Belfast City centre but for the quality of the food and service we got I was pretty satisfied, I got the duck breast which was perfectly cooked and a really high quality meal, so that was another 5 stars from me. I went for the Peroni draft beer option, really gorgeous pint, a bottle of white wine was ordered for the table and apparently that was gorgeous too, the seating and lighting and all round atmosphere was fantastic, just really relaxed and definitely the kind of place I could have easily spent a few hours in, definitely another time without the kids lol. Toilets were spotless clean, although the men’s toilets were out of use due to a fresh paint job but had a look in and saw a good spacious clean area with plenty of cubicles and the likes, accessible bathroom was available for men at the time. So all in all had a great experience at Sweet Afton and will definitely be returning and highly recommend to anyone heading to Belfast city with or without the kids.

Avoid this place. Wish I could give no stars. Staff were rude, unfriendly and the place was cold and dirty. Toilets were discussing as was the bar and tables. And too expensive for all this lovely experience. Any 5 star reviews for this place has to be fake, because I have been here on many occasions and it is always the same. On one occasion the gents toilets were flooded and people were walking piss all throughout the building. The place should be shut down.

Sour atmosphere in here, chefs are very toxic and management doesnt seem to care how this impacts on the restaurant, rude staff and chefs

Just spent a brilliant afternoon in Sweet Afton, with family having a lovely meal, listening to great live music, being served by very friendly and attentive staff, 👍

They put the premier league match on - only sound for half because there was live music on beforehand (really talented musician) felt a shame to have one interrupt the other. All in all a really nice, airy, space !

Been here a few times previously and I would have given 5 stars all round. Tonight though the service was abysmal. Booked as thought it would be busy (again, on previous experience) however not really busy. Got there 5 minutes early and the supervisor took little interest with us. Got seated ordered drinks and a main course everything great. Finished main and waiter took away plates and order for another drink. One of the party wanted dessert and I said we can order when the drinks come. Waited 20 minutes no drinks and went to the bar and ordered. No one came back to take dessert order. Finished drinks and went to bar again and ordered another round of drinks and paid our bill as no one came to ask about any desserts. Finished drinks and left. Main course was spot on no complaints and would recommend but service was terrible. No tip left which was a shame

Had the Korean Chicken Wrap, tasty food and surprisingly filling

Nice bar but poor service. Had to ask for a cloth to wipe our table, glasses were dirty, 10 min queue at the bar and it wasn’t busy. Watched who I think was the supervisor rolling cigarettes behind the bar while the queue of annoyed customers got longer. Left after one drink

Went for pre dinner drinks and was pleasantly surprised by the affable staff, cosy and inviting interior and excellent cocktails! Ben the mixologist is wonderful. Highly recommend.

Food and service was great but we were seated near a toilet and there was a really bad smell coming out of it

Got to say it’s a typical tourist pub with standard fair at tourist prices. Service was relatively slow and the food very much standard but cooked well and tasty. Was able to grab a table on a summers Monday night without booking.

Ok food let down by poor service. Not sure if they don't have enough staff or just don't care. Sad, such a shame.

Great place for drinks only negative as with all hospitality they need more staff for bar service and for keeping the toilets clean especially the ladies but all in all these issues would not deter me from going back

We came here off the recommendation of the concierge at the Grand Central Hotel, Niall. We loved our dining experience. The staff, food, and atmosphere were terrific. We highly recommend!

Great pub with a large seating area outside

A delightful, cozy pub/restaurant just minutes away. Delectable cuisine and an unbeatable location make it truly splendid.

If you want to be completely left alone this is the place to be. Cool decor with old encyclopedias. Good menu. Food was ok when they eventually get around to ordering. Had the fish and chips ( almost impossible to screw up) was good. When you do eventually get a drink don’t drink too fast cause you literally won’t get anything else. We had to beg for condiments and also eventually had to beg not ask i repeat beg at the counter to pay. FYI it was not busy at all

Convenient location in the heart of Belfast. Usually sold out of a number of draught drinks. They do have a wide range of canned beer instead, but disappointing if you want draft beer. The outdoor space is great in the summer, usually well lit by the evening sun. Good spot for after work pint in the spring/summer.

I had a great burger nice and juicy. Perfectly cooked and great chips. Service was very good. I will be back.

Incredible dishes : boeuf bourgignon and lamb with potatoes. Very helpful staff ! Could have used more vegetables, like most restaurant meals in Ireland (a small point)

Kitchen seems to close whenever they reckon there are no more orders likely. Not a specific issue with this bar - Belfast is a hard place to get dinner after 6:30 p.m. Monday to Thursday. Otherwise this place is comfortable and has good cocktails. The food is good too, if you can get it

Very dirty, dirty glasses, I asked for a cloth for the dirty table, the barman could not find a cloth. men walking into female toilets where my wife was. Management, get to work! Live music very good and guinness was good.

Just returned from a 4 night break in Belfast. The sweet afton was our fav place, great food and atmosphere. Staff also brilliant 👏

A good location. Close to train station.(4mins walk) Service quick and friendly. Couldn't find wheel chair access lifted chair and occupant up the two steps + the same once inside.

Had the steak and it was delicious, the pepper sauce was gorgeous. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. The live music was also really good and was a great atmosphere.

Lively place good food staff friendly a little cold in the place

A group of us came here for food before a show. One of our group booked the table and mentioned this at the time of booking (we needed the food served promptly and the pre-show menu was requested) our table was ready, but our first server was not as helpful as the server who brought our food out. We had to ask for the pre-show menu and asked about substitutions as we were driving and wondered if we could swap out the wine for something non-alcoholic. No we couldn't, but we could swap chips for veg... All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our food (which did arrive promptly) and I won't let a waitress who wasn't very happy put me off, I will come again.

Went to celebrate a retirement, and we were given a long table for the evening. Two hrs later we were moved and then again one hour later moved to the sports bar upstairs.

Went inside for a diner for 2, wasn't disappointed at all. Ordered 2x the sirloin steak (medium rare) and the caramel syrup fudge as desert. The sirloin steak came with fries and a peppers sauce. All was very tasteful and enjoyed this fully. The wine came in a dirty glass and asked the waiter to get a new one, without hesitation he took the old ones and gave a new one. The live music was a bit too loud to have a normal conversation with someone. It's a little bit over-priced in my opinion but the atmosphere was ok, and the food was good.

Could do with a revamp as the seating is poor and the decor needs refreshed
