The vegan menu is extensive. The vegan fish made with banana blossom was very crispy albeit lacking in flavor. Maybe a marinade in vinegar plus spices would bring the flavor up. The chips were not fully cooked. The toilet need to be cleaner and able to flush. The tables were sticky. Customer service was ok.

We only had one vegan in our group (me) but everyone enjoyed! People tried different fish for the fish & chips and everyone enjoyed. I got the vegan banana blossom, which was delightful. Our waiter was really kind and wonderful and he gave suggestions, which was much appreciated.

Having been veggie my whole life and recently vegan I’ve never actually tried fish before. I had the scampi and chips it was so nice! Did burn my mouth on the chips but that’s my fault for being impatient lol. My boyfriend had the steak and kidney pie which he loved. Will definitely be back when we’re in Hackney!

waiting over an hour for food and never arrived, called the restaurant who did not care less. I have two toddlers who were waiting for the food to be disappointed. If you are not going to deliver the food don't take the money, just tell us so we could have ordered from somewhere else. bad service and experience

A while ago, heard about Suttons and Son Fish and Chips serving vegan fish so decided to try it out. There are different kinds of vegan fish these days, some are made with tofu called tofush but the one at Suttons is all natrual made with Banana Blossom. There are a few branches of Suttons but as I wanted to try vegan chicken at Temple of Hackney, I went to this branch so I could eat everything on the same trip. If you have seen Banana Blossom before, it is just the flower bud of the banana tree similar to bamboo shoot tips so I would imagine it tasting like that. Anyway, it was how I expected, a whole banana blossom coated in batter and the texture and taste was similar to bamboo shoot tips. Basically, it flakes like fish and it had a salty aftertaste but if the banana blossom is old and dry, it can taste a bit woody. As well as vegan fish and chips, they also have a separate Vegan menu which is good! They are also serving a vegan doner which I really want to try. Overall a lovely place so I plan to come back for the vegan doner. Will be back to try the vegan doner!!

Its so helpful to have a 100% vegan chip shop nearby. You can avoid meat but still complete your dinner with that naughty feeling of just eating a full protein meal from your local chippy! Best option for me is always the sausage and chips - there is a smoked sausage option too. I really recommend trying this place out.

My boyfriend had heard about this place so we thought we’d pay a visit on a Sunday afternoon- crazy that the original Fish & chips restaurant was literally empty... we walk 10 seconds down the road to the Vegan one and it’s full! Great sign! We ordered the banana blossom with chips and it was amazing! The texture was incredible and the taste was very ‘fresh’! I think even non vegans would enjoy this. They give great size portions of chips with your meal too! Loved the vibe and would 100% go back!

Heard there was a vegan place next to us that had opened up so headed there with a friend. I was super interested in their fish which is made from banana blossom and apparently tastes exactly like fish. Unfortunately I had my soya intolerant friend with me and it seems that nearly everything on the menu except for the fish cake and the fish has soy in it, so beware. The battered sausage was great and I would recommend. The fish, however, was very realistic - so much so that we looked at it for a while unsure if we'd actually gone into their non-vegan branch by mistake. The banana blossoms is flaked just like regularly fish and has the sticky out black bits that fish also has. Unfortunately banana blossom also has what seemed to be a sickly salty aftertaste which again happens to be exactly like fish but was also something I was glad to give up when I became vegetarian and started having fish alternatives. My friend enjoyed it but I didn't. The place is set up as a takeaway and there is some internal seating but it's pretty uncomfortable and I wouldn't hang out there. However, I will likely take people here again because it is vegan takeaway food that isn't made of wheatgrass and jojoba, a rare sight, and there are plenty of options besides the fish.
