Bit of a weird experience to say the least. We are returning customers of sushi mania but have never experienced such poor service. Last time we went (August 2024) the staff were useless- they didn’t bring us our drinks so we had to wait ages and order them twice, we had to ask for cutlery about 4 times before one of us got up and looked for some ourselves. One waitress started yelling when we were looking for the cutlery and then looked at us very blankly & confused when we were telling her our food is getting cold & we want to eat. The beef was SO chewy it was pretty much inedible. The food quality had definitely gone down hill since we’d visited previously. Some of our food didn’t arrive but we left that part unsolved as it was pointless trying to get anyone’s attention and most of the workers there couldn’t even smile or be polite. (Maybe they’re also being treated poorly.) Nearly forgot to mention that the aircon unit above us was dripping on us during the meal. It was so uncomfortable. We love to support local but this experience was terrible for all of us and we will not be dining there again. There were too many disasters in the 90 mins we were there. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. -1/10

Always reliable food. Great for the all you can eat option. The food always comes out fresh and hot. To be honest, I don’t understand the bad reviews 👀 The instructions to use the app are simple and they are explained on the menu. And it’s quite common in a lot of restaurants that does all you can eat to pay for any wasted dishes so that people aren’t wasting food and taking advantage.

Was really worried as booked a table for my sons birthday before looking at the reviews, which are not very good,but we enjoyed our experience and food was nice. Unless you can eat a lot I didn't think the all you can eat menu was worth the money, especially when paying for kids. We would go again, but pay for the normal menu next time.

I came for lunch to meet with my friends and brought along my new baby as the restaurant is supposedly child-friendly. We ordered off the half price menu and enjoyed our sushi which was tasty, although some of the items didn't seem very fresh, for example the ginger was very dry so we didn't touch it. Anyone with a 6-month old knows how difficult it can be to eat out at a restaurant whilst your child is fussy. I was unable to finish some of my sushi because I had to have my son on my lap and keep him entertained. We had probably about 10 pieces of sushi left by the end of the meal. We were made aware that if eating from the half-price menu we'd have to pay £1 per takeaway box, but as it was a hot day and we'd planned a walk afterwards I told the waitress we didn't want to take it away with us. She grumpily pointed to one of the plates and said that we were wasting food and hadn't touched one of the types of sushi. We apologised and said we weren't trying to waste food but we were busy with a small baby so couldn't eat it all. She then said that we would be charged a £5 wasted food fee, which I was shocked to hear because I have never experienced this in a restaurant before. Surely you order, you pay for what you order, and you eat as much as you want, that's your rights?? I have never been told I'd be charged a fee for not finishing my plate before. All of this was very unhelpfully said at a time when I was trying to get my little boy to calm down, and I was becoming really upset because other tables were staring. I felt she was making it look like a) we were greedy and had ordered too much, and b) were just wasting food and not thinking about the environment or something. Overall it was just an absolutely bizarre interaction, and in the end we agreed to pay for the takeaway box but had to bin the sushi the second we left the restaurant as it would go bad if we took it home with us. I was so overwhelmed and upset by the interaction that I burst into tears as soon as we left, mostly because going out to lunch with a small baby was a big thing for me and I found it really difficult, only to have a truly insensitive and uncaring waitress shame me and make me feel bad for not being able to finish my food. It turned out that the policy around wasted food is for the bottomless menu which we had not even ordered from! I will never go back and I'm really disappointed to have been treated so badly by the service staff there.

Been here once before and was pleasent, my friend did all the ordering so I didn't have an issue. This time I went with someone else and they tried to use the QR code to order and the app wasn't working and it ordered triple the things we wanted so a bill for 2 people (with only 3 items) came to £90 when we spoke to the staff and explained they made a scene and started being difficult with us by taking my friends phone. we were then told we have to wait 15 minutes before we can order again when all we wanted to do was order food and pay. we decided to leave so we said we'd just pay for what we had which was 3 small dish's but again, they made a scene with us, started swarming our table and raising voices at us. yes I understand maybe we did something wrong on the app (but the app was glitchy) no need to make us look like idiots in front of a full restaurant. will never go here again that's for sure.

I swore I would never go here again after having two bad experiences previously, however I tried it again tonight and the service was horrendous, didn't get what I ordered and was charged for something I didn't even get. I was also told that everything was 50% off on the menu with no signal or sign to indicate a 50% discount, and when I questioned it I was given a menu with a sticker at the bottom right of the menu stating that only certain items were 50% off. The staff cannot speak English and there was a massive language barrier to the point where the duck dish I ordered I was told was the salmon dish, they didn't have a clue what was going on.

This experience tops all the terrible experiences I’ve had in a restaurant. The manager was absolutely delusional about his “perfect restaurant” as he kept calling it. He was beyond rude to me and my dad and even walked away when I was in the middle of speaking to him. Such poor quality food as well it was overall an incredibly disappointing experience. Too many staff for an empty Wednesday lunch time and after 2:30 the manager was just doing laps of the restaurant as of to imply that we all needed to hurry up so he can close at 3. Never in my life have I been to a restaurant where I’ve had to pay for the food, and then also pay for not eating all of the food? Absolutely ridiculous and just a terrible experience from All aspects.

hi mania in St Albans… Went into sushi mania in St Albans (Herts) as had a table booked for 3 people. The manager immediately had a bad attitude when asking us if we wanted the all you can eat menu or the Al a cart. We said can one of us have one and the other two of us have the other?? He said no all has to be the same! ok we agreed to all have the al a cart. Then 1 dirty looking menu arrived and a small double bowl of ginger and wasabi was dropped on our table with the ginger hanging off the side. Then our plates were placed in-front of us with finger prints on!!! Needless to say this was enough!! We got up & left! We had a very unpleasant experience. We took a bottomless buffet and realised that my 5 year old was charged for menu that don't even exist. If your charging for a child, then you should have a memu for them right? When I asked the manager to take it off the bill because my daughter hasn't eaten, he refused and argued with me. He even asked me to pay £5 for a takeaway box if we want to take the left overs home as they don't want it to go to waste. Shame on you! Overall the food was good but with this kind of service, we will never go again.

So the intrigue was the deal, half price etc. etc. but the food was really poor, all pre made and nothing fresh, the taste of the food very bland and presentation poor - all in avoid at all costs, even the deal doesn’t work out that great. Very disappointing and doubt will be open this time next year.

We were recommended this place by a friend, but after reading the mixed reviews we were a bit apprehensive. No need to be though, we were seated quickly, offered the all you can eat or 50% off a la carte menus to choose from, and given water and drinks order taken. We went with all you can eat. After a little trouble getting the app (they gave us a QR code which helped) you can order once every 15 mins up to the time limit, which is easy once you get the hang of it. The menu is somewhat limited but still has good options. We really enjoyed the tempura prawn. We left comfortably full and would go back again in future.

The problem was how rude a staff communicated a concern to me. Upon arrival we were asked what we were going to have for dinner all you can eat or ala carte. I told the person in the reception we're having 2 all you can eat and the child that we were with was not eating (My daughter decided she couldn't wait for dinner and ate while we're on our way so I knew she's full). We were directed to sit on table 8. While waiting, I talked to my daughter and asked repeatedly if she's sure she's not eating. She said yes, she would not but then when the first set of our eat all you can order came, she decided she wanted to eat too. I booked an ala carte salmon meal for her. Came her dinner and ate only 1/4 of it (because she's still full from what she ate before coming to the restaurant). Minutes later, she asked if she can have some prawn tempura she saw me eating. I explained to her that she couldn't have it as it was from our menu and that our set was different from hers. But then she's only 6 and have limited understanding of things like this. Instead of making a scene, I agreed and gave her 1 tempura. She ended up liking it and asked for another 1. I did give her 1 more. And then a 3rd one. She ate only half of the 3rd tempura. My daughter loved edemame beans and I thought, I would share with her some from my tofu salad, I gave her around 5 pieces of bean which she didn't even touch. She stopped eating entirely. Minutes later, a man approached the table, looking stern and talked to me in the most rude way I ever encountered in a restaurant here in the UK! He said curtly "The child will be charged half because she ate from the unlimited menu" without actually looking at me (the person he was addressing this concern to) and walked away even if I was sure he heard me attempted to talk (he was only few inches away from me). While I understood the rule and I had no problem paying the extra charge, THE WAY HE COMMUNICATED THIS TO ME WAS APPALLING AND VERY UNPROFESSIONAL!!!! I lost my appetite after that and I felt upset. After some minutes, the man passed by our table again and I called his attention about a charge in my bill (food tray). He again talked to me with cold, harsh tone telling me is the most impolite way: "This is not charged." added (verbatim) "you can even check your online bill, scan this code and you'll see its not there." though I was not happy with his attitude, I thanked him. Minutes passed and he came again and placed our bill on our table. I felt like I was on the verge of loosing it as I felt he was sending us away already by giving us the bill I DIDN'T ASK FOR just yet. What a show of customer service!!! We love sushimania and had been to this restaurant for 5 times already. But with this incident, I wouldn't be coming again anymore. And I will surely tell the story to friends to be careful with this rude staff. You can review the CCTV footage of this incident yesterday, 2nd of July between 6pm-7pm, as table 8 was right under a CCTV. He was the guy who normally works in the bar, black haired and wearing a white top. Thank you for your time and I hope this feedback will not be taken for granted. I SENT THIS EMAIL TO SUSHIMANIA ST. Waiter who greeted us was really moody with us when we said we hadn’t booked, even though it was 4pm on a Sunday and barely anyone in there - then we waited 20 minutes and no one came to see us to ask if we even wanted a drink. I had to ask someone if they could come and take our order and give us the QR code for bottomless sushi. Really unimpressed with the service. The food was nice and came out quickly but I cannot justify waiting 20 minutes to even get a glass of water in a quiet restaurant! Let's be honest, any sushi restaurant that offers unlimited quantities for a set price is never going to be the best, but we thought we'd try it. Ordering is via an app, so having been shown to a table, that's about it for personl contact, as everything is then done on your phone, so the only time that you see a member of staff is when they deliver food to your table. Choice of starters is good and the same again for main meals, as there's plenty to choose from, while hot food was 'hot', so no complaints there. However, with the clue in the name, 'Sushimania', it's really all about the sushi and this is where the restaurant unfortunately fell flat, as the quality of the rice and overall textures, were just wrong, with rice falling apart and proving somewhat tasteless. Toppings were OK for pre-frozen fish and of course, there's always the option to order more, (if you're still hungry), but a sushi restaurant lives, or dies, on the quality and freshness of their main product's ingredients and I'm sorry to say that for this chain, while staff were friendly, (those that we saw), the ambience was pleasant and nobody went hungry, standards of quality leave a lot to be desired. If you're looking for sushi and lots of it, all for a set price, then fine, give this place a whirl, but if your emphasis is on a genuine Japanese/sushi dining experience and quality and freshness are your focal points, then I suggest avoiding it and instead, heading to somewhere else where sure, you'll pay far more, but you'll also enjoy a far more authentic experience.

Me and my friend decided we’d go to sushimania for a treat. We’d heard they did half price meals at lunch so we thought we go. The food was very average, and the staff were reasonably nice. However the following few days both my friend and I spent the whole day and night on the toilet. We ordered had chicken gyozas and I had a chicken Yaki soba. We believe the chicken is the culprit for our shared food poisoning that has caused us much distress. The food may have tasted nice but it’s not worth the pain and illness this restaurant has caused us. Honestly I would avoid this restaurant like the plague, it may be cheap but who wants to spend the next week on the toilet.

So our order got given to someone else (or stolen) and the restaurant refused to accept fault. Told us to contact JustEat and that it was their problem now. No offer to replace the food, resolve the issue or anything, just an "oh well, not my problem". Clearly a bunch of frauds preying on the drunk and desperate and with no knowledge of how to run a business or deal with the public with any respect. As such, I am in no mood to show these people any respect in return. They have ruined the evening of hospitality staff with a rare Saturday night off by totally f*cking up our night-in together, leaving us scraping the bottom of the barrel at 10pm to find something that isn't a dodgy kebab. We tried to ring them back 35 minutes before the listed closing time without response. This screams shady business with something to hide. So let's not let them hide. They're the worst of the worst, the most uncaring and unsympathetic wastes of time and energy in the city. I would love for nothing more than them to go out of business tomorrow. Food sounded nice though, but I guess we'll never know 1/5*
