Sushi & salad in Uttlesford

Sushi and Salad in Safron Walden is a 30 minute drive for us to reach however, it is worth it! The food was delectable, well presented and expertly prepared. A vegan menu was perfect for my hubby and provided a plethora of food choices. Call ahead for a spot....it does get crowded!

Went for a dinner with family visiting from London. We all loved the food and they were especially impressed with the quality of the sushi. Highly recommend.

Absolutely love this gem of a place. Best sushi and best vegetarian food ever. I have always struggled to get good veggie or vegan options at Japanese restaurants but this place has a whole separate well thought out and delicious menu. Kids loved it and husband loved the Torro special which you only normally find in London restaurants. Amazing food, great service, gorgeous setting... We will be back.... Soon!

My partner and I came here for my birthday, because I love sushi, and it did not disappoint. Staff were very friendly, service was swift, and the food was absolutely delicious - would definitely recommend the hot tiger Philadelphia roll!

Did not have sushi or sashimi but their ramen, gyoza and karaage were good. The service was also excellent. A bit on the pricy side but not many, if any, Japanese restaurants in the area so worth a try if want good Japanese food.

My only thought was there was too much choice and menus, found it a bit confusing, one of the staff were very helpful and helped us.

Very nice and plentiful portions. Pork belly was especially nice with the gyudon.

Visited here for the first time on Friday 27th September with my mum, for my 30th birthday. I am an ambulatory wheelchair user and there is a step into the restaurant but the lovely people working here were so helpful with this. The place is decorated so beautifully! The music was great and felt a very chilled atmosphere. The staff are absolutely lovely. The food was delicious!! The best sushi experience I've ever had. 😍 They then gave me a cheesecake for my birthday 🥹 which was the kindest and loveliest gesture. Thank you so much for such a wonderful experience. We really cannot wait to come back here ! ❤️

Simply the best restaurant for miles serving unbelievable Sushi at amazing prices! Our friends introduced us to the fabulous salad bowls last night too. Whether you eat in or takeaway as we often do you won’t be disappointed.

Beautifully presented and incredibly fresh sushi. The staff are so welcoming , we were in a huge group and they really looked after us. A wonderful treat that wasn’t overly expensive. I have eaten a lot of sushi over the years and this is definitely up there . So lucky to have this restaurant in saffron Walden.

We visited Sushi and Salad last night for my birthday. This was my fourth visit and I have loved it each time. My husband and two girls love it too. We had a range of different sushi, sashimi and gyoza all of which was delicious but I think the dragon rolls were my favourite...

Quality has declined while the prices have risen. Ordered for the first time since the price increase and so disappointed in the vegetable yakisoba. Nowhere close to being worth the amount I spent on it. It was so so bland. Despite it being advertised as a dish with vegetables, I only had one teeny tiny sprig of broccoli in it, some onion, and a few bits of pepper. Had to season it myself.

Great food and amazing service. You can see the amount of effort that both the staff and kitchen put into everything the food is out of this world it’s incredibly fresh will be back again

We had spotted the restaurant on a previous visit and couldn't get a table as it was so busy, so booked ahead this time. We had a guest with gluten intolerance & the menu was very clear for her to navigate. We had one of the best Japanese meals I have eaten outside London. Staff were friendly & helpful and we felt most welcome. Looking forward to visiting again to try other dishes.

Great food, friendly staff, nice atmosphere but poor service. When the restaurant is busy which it was when we arrived, it's obvious they are understaffed. A shame really as it did put a cloud over the excellent food.

We had read a lot of really positive reviews about this restaurant, and wandering past one evening, we noticed how busy the restaurant was. The menu sounded lovely, and we asked for a table for two. We were shown to the basement area, which was cosy, beautifully decorated, and there was a lovely ambience. The staff were so friendly, and full of passion and wonderful recommendations. Our food was absolutely delicious, and the service was excellent. The raspberry and pistachio cheesecake was amazing. We literally cannot fault this restaurant. We haven't stopped talking about it. What a wonderful eatery in the heart of Saffron Walden. Perfect, and we will be back. Five stars doesn't do this place justice. First class!

I am from America and this was my first time in the UK and I came to Sushi and Salad with my friend! The service here was wonderful and the food was even better. The chef Shamma was so wonderful and welcomed me with open arms! If you are visiting Saffron Walden you MUST add this to your list of restaurants to try.

Wow! I wonder why I had not tried this gorgeous restaurant before. We ordered a platter and it was not only stunning to look at, it was so tasty and beautifully presented. The fish was so fresh and it seemed a shame to tuck in. Service was good and friendly and it seemed that everyone took pride in what they were doing. People walking past were actually stopping to look at the food as it look so amazing. Just go!

This is a great way to experience a variety of Japanese cuisine A mix of more 'authentic' (though I use this word lightly as actual Japanese food is often willing to break the rules) and some that have been slightly tweaked for British palettes. I lived in Japan for a period of time, where I was able to sample lots of food and I still thoroughly enjoyed this. Particular praise is to be given to the kaisendon which demonstrates the chef's skills well! The food is all clearly made to order which is excellent. The decor is charming and sweet. Gives the vibes of Western orientalist art which is lovely! A wide variety of different crockery and tableware is a nice touch too! My only complaint is the tea. Unfortunately the sencha I was served here was at £5 among the more expensive pots of green tea I have ever tasted and by far one of the worst. This was the same when I tried the bancha on a previous visit. The teabags are of low quality and for the price I would expect a good teabag, or even average quality loose-leaf (despite the website showing a picture of loose-leaf tea!!). Sadly I have had more flavoursome glasses of water. This was only a minor blot on an otherwise perfect meal and as soon as the food arrived the tea was soon forgotten. Though until they improve the tea I cannot recommend anyone order it as it is not even close to representing what Japanese tea can be. Overall I would highly recommend the restaurant as a charming taste of Japan!

Best resturent i have ever seen in my life. (Service, atmosphere, food) i loved all about this resturent. I orderd edamame, salmon sashimi, spicy cruch and spicy udon all are fresh and best.

For many years our favourite food has been Sushi and associated Japanese cuisine. We have been living in Birdbrook for some years and have always travelled into Cambridge or London to get good Sushi. However on a whim 1 year ago we tried Sushi and Salad in Saffron Walden. The restaurant feels intimate, yet cosmopolitan, but the food..... Oh, the food. Their Maki were simple and perfect, the Gyoza sublime, the Miso soup unique and delicious. The various Uramaki and hand rolls were delightful and unusually for a Japanese restaurant they have delicious puddings too! We continue to frequent this restaurant and I must say their service has been exemplary. The maximum time we had to wait was 10 minutes and we were made to feel so very welcome. Visit this wonderful venue and thank me later.

I really don’t know how to thank Charley who helped us and talked to the chef to make our dinner later tonight. We can’t forget the flavour of the food in this restaurant. Really delicious 🤤

My friend & I visited last Sunday for lunch and ordered Combo 1 to share. It was presented beautifully and tasted so delicious! Plus the staff were very friendly and helped us move everything inside when the heavens opened on us. We will be returning!

After reading other reviews I think we must have visited on a bad night. This was our first time eating here after hearing great comments from local friends. Unfortunately it did not live up to it this time. Our nibble offered to have with drinks arrived after some of our main and then my partner’s dish arrived at least 15 minutes after mine. Not ideal for a couple date night. I had the Katsu curry which was delicious but the sashimi my partner had wasn’t so good. It was cut very thick and chewy compared to others we have had and enjoyed before. I guess as we were later in the evening the staff were tired and were more intent on drying glasses and tidying than being attentive. Shame as we were hoping it would be a favourite restaurant to keep returning to.

Fantastic eating experience. Went with my wife, who loves Japanese food. The menu offers a great range catering for all tastes and the staff were friendly and welcoming. Definitely would recommend.

This is our fourth visit to Sushi and Salad in Saffron Walden, the service has always been friendly and attentive, the food is really well prepared, fresh with plenty of choices. In our view , best Sushi place around that I highly recommend if you like a delicious Sushi 👍👍👍

A gem in Saffron Walden, great for healthy take away. The only disappointment was the Bancha Tea which is not for those who are looking for a stronger taste.

Delicious food and great service.

Extremely extremely overpriced for sushi rolls that were mediocre at best. Specifically, the sushi rice was stodgy and too compact indicating not enough cooling and fluffing to get rid of excess moisture; but the main issue was the raw fish: we only had salmon and tuna and both were not fresh, in fact overly fishy in smell and taste. The fish was served too warm as well, indicating it had been handled and out of the chiller far too long. And the panko prawn was ok but definitely not panko crumbed. And serving sushi with drizzles of sweet thai chilli sauce? Unforgiveable. Service was good as was the surrounding. At best, i would recommend only the cooked dishes, as eating raw fish that is not sashimi grade may end up with one regretting it later. Very disappointed as we had great hopes for it, but sadly not to be. First and last time for us.

THE most authentic Japanese cuisine, remaking from sushi and sashimi, to a vegetable teriyaki rice bowl, wholesome, authentic Japanese food. They even boast an extensive Vegan Menu too! Customer service that’s friendly and intuitive. Thank you chefs and service staff for making our experience wonderful, so wonderful in fact, that we just keep coming back. It’s nice to know that you hold such consistency in the quality of your food.

Memorable family celebration for a group of 10 aged 15 to 85 - and most of us hadn't tried Japanese food or used chopsticks before. (Forks were tactfully provided for those who needed them!) I asked the manager to order for us and he ensured a wonderful selection of starters, then sushi platters, then desserts were served. Charming service and delicious food.

So good! I ordered the sashimi platter and the dragon roll (loads for one person but I got carried away and have no regrets). I felt that I had ordered the best things on the menu! This may mean I did in fact order the best things on the menu, or more likely that everything is really good. I went with a vegetarian friend and they were really pleased with theirs too. We had the plum wine and it was also really nice. Like a dessert drink.

Fantastic restaurant. Highly recommend. We visited as a group of 7 inc adults & children. The staff were fantastic and the food even better. All absolutely delicious & beautifully presented. It is not just sushi & salad as the name suggests, it has an extensive menu. Absolutely worth a visit.

My partner and I ordered and collect a takeaway this evening. To say we were disappointed is an under statement. Portion sizes were less than half the size of when you eat in. £5.87 for not even half a potato, never had a problem when walking in

Outstanding sushi experience in Saffron Walden. All their fish was very, very fresh. I had hamatchi nigiri, unagi nigiri and they surprised me by having a simply outstanding toro nigiri on the specials menu. It was a great lunch with excellent service. Would revisit without hesitation.

Veg Tempura was perfect , Spicy Udon OMG it was amazing and very tasty,Walden roll, spicy crunch, sushi and sashmi fusion was omg so damn good, I am returning again to taste these amazing food. Staff service was very good. I suggest to visit this place

The food was not good, dry over cooked rice with the tiniest amount of sauce I have ever seen, prawns with so much batter on I could not taste any prawn, dry veg, one slice of leek and a tiny piece of broccoli, and oily edamame beans. The Spicy crunch was not in any way spicy, very sad, myself and my daughter were disappointed to say the least and £54 for 2 small soft drinks and 2 portions was incredibly overpriced considering the poor quality. We won't be returning. 😞

Amazing experience, food, drinks and service. Reasonable prices for the delicious Sashimi platter which easily fed three of us ( after a couple of starters.) A few of us had hot food, which was also amazing, providing for those who don’t like sushi ! Cocktails were also lovely. The service was perfectly attentive and very speedy!

Excellent food great service well presented top quality ingredients well decorated like art when plate came to the table with dry ice.Oh my god I feel I am in Japan. My wife and son they are very happy they love it sashimi sushi gyoza ramen kastchu spicy udon spicy crunch specially the wooden roll my son love it and Japanese wine Vegan options cambo fantastic Hot and cold. Visited here last night, was seated straight away with attentive service and food was on point, excellent quality for the paramount food that came out. From the pork belly to katsu chicken sushi, tempura cod to baby octopus , was very happy with our choices!! Sapporo was crisp and fresh and lovely staff with spotless amenities! All in all has a high price tag but for the quality we were over the moon!! Can’t wait to return with friends for a few cocktails as well this time

Visited Sushi and Salad for a quick local meal on a Saturday night with friends. We weren’t sure what to expect but were really pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is much bigger than it looks with a dining room downstairs too, and had a great vibe on a Saturday night. The food was all tasty and came out reasonably quickly. The waiting staff were all very welcoming and pleasant. We had a really enjoyable evening and will definitely return.

Been here a few times since they opened. We take my Japanese mother in-law out for lunch here. She is always impressed with the sushi. Friendly service. All round great.. best sushi I've had outside of London in the UK.
