So we visited Souphanouvong a couple of times over the few years we have lived in the area. Although we enjoyed our previous visits they were not particularly memorable and I don't remember the dishes at all being anything special. Well the evening meal we had this time was really fantastic Thai food. They have had a new owner and the menu has been refreshed with what must be a new chef. I was really impressed. The tempura spicy squid to start was just perfectly cooked and seasoning was so tasty. Then the king prawn special for a main was one of the best I have had. I would go back there just for that dish lol. The service was excellent, nice cosy relaxed atmosphere, waitress was fantastic and friendly and happy to recommend some dishes. I hope they gain more of a reputation and people give it a go again. 5 stars to the new owner :-)

A new owner took over a couple of months ago - and the food has improved!More traditional Thai style if you like it that way over the westernised versions. The Wed night offer is no longer in place - but they now do a better lunch offering Thursday to Sunday. (Also 15% off for takeaways on evening - plus loyalty card visit 5 times get 25% off next visit if interested).Went for Sunday lunch - Red Thai curry with Jasmine rice, Seafood noodle soup and 2 diet cokes - £20 - bargain. Both dishes were very good - the noodle soup would highly rate. You can pick your meat for the curry / noodle dishes - and they can increase / decrease the spicy level for any dish! Which is great as do like it spicy. The new owner I think is called Apple! And use to cook the food before taking over the place and changing the menu for the better. Will be back for lunch soon.

I love Thai and was so looking forward to trying this restaurant after moving to the area. Unfortunately this was truly awful, I can not recommend staying away from this restaurant enough. Picking up a Tesco’s value microwave Thai would have been ten times better than what we were presented with by this restaurant! Very disappointing!

Order received was wrong, the food was awful, the chicken pad Thai smelt off, the pad thai was like chow mien and the crispy beef was burnt. Over priced for a far below par takeaway. Save your money and visit Beetley New Inn.

Visited on the may bank holiday weekend. This Thai is without doubt the best I and my partner have had. The hot n sour soup is truly superb, fantastically spiced and exactly as it should be. My partners prawn starter was excellent. I had sirloin beef with a Thai sauce. WOW!! the beef was really tender and flavoursome, but once I added the sauce it was awesome. My partner had pad-thai noodles which again was a really flavoursome and delicious dish. I would recommend this Thai to anyone, only thing I would say is that it could do with a little TLC by giving it a freshen up with a lick of paint, but the food is certainly king in this restaurant. The service was excellent also. this is the second time we have been and both times it has been outstanding!!!

We have not been to this restaurant before, so it was a trial by fire as there were 10 of us. It was a great evening, service was friendly and efficient. The food was very good, with a number of the group Thai virgins. I believe everyone enjoyed their meals, with only the odd mishap, which was not the fault of the restaurant. I will be going again soon.

We went on Friday night it was my forth visit since moving to Wymondham a couple of years ago . It’s a really good little restaurant and I am surprised it’s not busier than it is. The service was good the food was great , I had the chilli sea food and king prawns in oyster and black pepper lovely . £80 for two with a bottle of wine not cheap but in keeping with Thai’s in the city , it’s well worth a visit as a treat.

Hot food cooked to order. I like coming here occasionally. The spring rolls are authentic. reasonable rather than fantastic. It lacks the touches of a special Thai - coriander, fresh spices galangal, lime leaf etc. Some of the dishes appear to come from a bottle or toned down for the Western palate. They are very sweet and I'm sure this town needs to support its Thai. But it doesn't match up to some places like the Giggling Squid in Norwich

A vegetarian option was taken by his girlfriend who said it was excellent. All in all it was a very good meal , the service was great and with a bottle of wine it came to just under £125 for the 4 of us.I've eaten at many Thai restaurants and this is a good one, there are better which is why I've rated at very good, but if my experience is any thing to go buy it's well worth a visit and I shall return.

Chanced upon this Thai late on a Wednesday evening when all other possible options were closed. But that was to our gain. Service, welcome and Wednesday night deal were clear winners. The waitress was charming, a lawyer from Bangkok as I recall who was studying at UEA. A group of well-heeled women on a nearby table have been dining there every week for nearly ten years. They wouldn't be doing that if they weren't impressed. Likewise we were. Quiet and not shouting for attention as you walk past, it will make you glad you stepped in and leave you well satisfied when you venture out afterwards.

The food itself was very tasty although not plentiful. People say you get what you pay for but not in this case, I was still a little hungry when we had finished. I also found the price a little at the high end, my main came in at 15 pounds without a side so between the 2 of us the bill came in at 45 pounds. We came here as a large group on a special deals night, the staff are very friendly but there didn't seem to be enough of them considering how busy the restaurant was. Had a starter, main & dessert all for under £10, the starter and main are served on the same plate as it states on the menu, and whilst they were nice, I don't think I'd be happy paying the full price for them. There were very few vegetarian options (unless you're happy eating tofu) and there were very long delays between everyone receiving their food. I appreciate we were a large party but some of us had almost finished our meals before others had received theirs. On the plus side, a few of us had the coconut ice cream which was delicious! We moved onto beef which was tender and full of flavour, a chicken noodle dish which was delightful and BBQ king prawns which were amazing. There was no oil/grease, meats cooked well and taste was superb. Yes the portion sizes were a little on the small side and were a little pricey but we left the restaurant feeling full and will certainly be going back again. We have very fond memories of this restaurant as it is where we went on our first date over 5 years ago - when we had a memorable evening with divine food. We have been a few times since and, sad to say, the restaurant goes downhill with every visit. We will not be going again. The service is good, never had a problem with that at all, the waitresses are lovely. The food, we find, is still tasty BUT portions have grown much smaller and the price has gone up exponentially and it is not exceptional compared to other venues such as the Sugar Hut in Norwich. Wine is way overpriced. The restaurant used to be packed but is now usually nearly empty and there is never any need to pre-book, which says it all. We feel very sad about the demise of this restaurant but could not recommend it to anyone now.

We visited on Saturday night after being unable to book a table for two at other restaurants in Wymondham - and decided to give this one another try after a gap of a few years. The restaurant was very empty with only perhaps six tables occupied all evening which perhaps reflects the problems with this place.Service was good and the environment is warm and welcoming, however the food is not exceptional and the price is way too high for what is essentially very standard Thai fare. For £65 for two courses with one bottle of the cheapest red wine I would expect exceptional food. The mixed started for two was OK and presented very well but essentially its the usual mix of deep fried Thai "Dim-Sum" which you get anywhere. My wife had the duck in red curry which was OK - although the size of the meal was small and it was essentialyl a few pieces of sliced duck swimming in the usual red curry sauce. My beef Penang curry was grim - a small portion of fairly tough beef in a cloying sauce that tasted as though it was from a jar. there were no herbs of spices visible at all or any other vegetablesin it making it probably the worst Penang curry I have had in a very long time. The side dish of mixed veg in oyster sauce was similarly uninspiring - a very small mix of overcooked stir fried veg in a bland sauce for £6.50!To summarise - the food was what I would expect from a standard Saturday night takeway.Wines are very expensive as well. It's a real shame that this restaurant doesn't take a long, critical look at itself and ask why it is empty on a saturday evening when the other good restaurants in Wymondham are packed. The environment is good and the staff very pleasant but it needs to significantly up the food quality and address the pricing.

How is it the old saying goes, "Once bitten, twice shy"? Well, our first experience of Supannahong wasn't that great but we presumed we'd just come on a quiet day and ordered the wrong dish. To find the restaurant empty and still experience desperately slow service and similar poor quality on a second visit - sufficient to say we've now got the message! In a small market town where the choice of restaurants is exceptional and standards as a whole seem to be high, I'm amazed the Supannnahong hasn't sailed away. For sure, the owners need to pull their socks up if they are going to compete with the likes of Marakesh, Number 24 and the Green Dragon.

I ate in this restaurant last Friday evening and was initially surprised to see it virtually deserted - there was only one other couple. However, having now eaten there I understand why it was so quiet. I had hoped to eat in the Green Dragon, a local pub, but it was fully booked.I started with the prawn spring rolls which were less than a centimetre in diameter and about 7/8cms long. They cost £5.50 for 5, so £1.10 per spring roll! They tasted okay, but were nothing special. For the main course I had the sweet and sour chicken with mixed vegetables and fragrant rice. Although the portion of rice was a reasonable size, there was not much chicken and hardly any vegetables. The chicken was more batter than chicken and cost £8.95. So I ordered some stir fried mixed vegetables in oyster sauce (which did arrive quickly) and could not believe the tiny portion I was given - I reckon there was less than 40p worth of veg. For this I was charged £5.50!When I complained to the young Thai girls who were serving the food, they did not really seem to care and simply informed me that they would pass on my comments to the chef. So, nearly £25 for an experience to forget!Having read some of the other reviews for this restaurant, I do not understand how anyone can give this place a 4/5* rating. I can only presume that these people have not eaten proper Thai food. The Lawyer pub in Wensum Street, Norwich serves excellent Thai food, cooked by the team from the Sugar Hut, and is both greatly superior in quality and quantity and much more reasonably priced.Judging by the emptiness of Suphannahog on a Friday night, I guess the people of Wymondham have already voted on their view of this restaurant!

Refused to give us chopsticks even though we used them every previous time and prefer them. "stir fried duck with green vegetables" turned out to be pre-cooked sliced duck on a lettuce leaf. Must haves include the pad Thai, any of the Thai currys and the beef with chilli, nothing like the horrid deep fried stuff you get in a chinese. The food here is excellent - very well cooked with fresh ingredients. Some classic thai dishes and some I hadn't seen before. Great for vegetarians and good indications on the menu of how hot the dishes are.Very friendly service and reasonable decor. A great find for a smal town!

Our first visit here and pleasantly surprised. Was quite busy so would reccomend you book. The waitresses are a bit dizzy and giggly but thats all part of the charm. The food was great and nicely presented and was hot. I had the red thai curry which was spicy but not lip numbingly so! My husband went for the chicken and cashew dish which he said was very nicely flavoured. We paid £45 for starters, mains and a drink each.Overall a very nice evening out without feeling hurried or rushed as you do in some restaurants.

Delicious, fresh food. One of the best Pad Thai's I've had (and I've had a lot, all over the Uk)! Great service and a lovely cosy atmosphere.
