Sukhothai in Havering

We’ve eaten in here a number of times over the years and it delivered on flavour slice and authenticity. Really good meal will be back for more.

We’ve just had a takeaway from our fav thai restaurant we have been using for years!! Thought we would treat ourselves-we shouldn’t have bothered as most went in the bin! Bland, bland, bland. Unfortunately the sweet n sour chicken consisted mostly of onion & veg / pad thai had no taste at all / special fried rice again no taste / ribs were ok nothing how they normally are. Such a disappointment. I don’t normally do reviews but felt this was really poor for £42 -overpriced. New staff in the kitchen??

I am not the biggest fan of Thai food but this is certainly one of the better Thai restaurants in the area and the staff are very pleasant

Absolutely brilliant Thai food and very welcoming and friendly staff . Location is great . We have tried Thai restaurants all over Essex and London and also many other parts of UK and I can safely say , this is one of the best Thai food we had . Will definitely go back regularly.

We found this restaurant really by accident. Had a meal in a nearby Thai which was ok, but we thought we’d try SukhoThai. We were totally impressed by this restaurant. The service is brilliant, the staff extremely friendly and are there to assist, but are not intrusive. The atmosphere is good and there are some lovely ornaments around the place. However, haven’t got to the food yet. We think it is absolutely brilliant. My partner loves the Green curry, and I can’t get enough of the Pad Khing which is excellent. I love the squid as well. Would recommend this restaurant whole heartedly. We have taken many of our friends here and they have all been impressed. Keep up the good work, and good luck for the future, you have regular customers in us !!!!!

Excellent service and food from this restaurant, our first order was made via Uber eats and I immediately received a call back from the restaurant asking for a few details. The food itself was very fresh and tasty with plenty of flavour. Excellent red and massaman curry Our new favourite Thai (much better food and service than Asia Villa!)

Food was delious .very colourful .plenty of variety .flavours just pop as you are eating .service was good .friends had a fish dish and lots of variety .we had curry dishes .noddles .rice .staters the ribs plenty on plate . Lovely evening .

I have been there several times before and the food and service has always been good in he past. So I decided to have my 30th Anniversary there . I booked a table of 6 and my other family booked a table of 6. We waited 1 hour and 20 minutes for our starters! This straight away put us all in a bad mood. Other people were being seated and served before us which was also very inconsiderate to us. The phone kept ringing and they were dealing with takeaways.When paying the bill they said they were short staffed which was not good enough. If they told me that before I would have not booked. I ordered my usual favourite green curry which was so mild and resembled the taste of Korma curry which I don't like but ate it because I had waited so long for my food. In the description it should have come with bean sprouts and aubergines which it didnt and no one explained it was missing. All the time we was waiting no one came to apologise or give us any free drinks or even a courtesy of prawn crackers. Totally unbelievable service. This really ruined my 30th anniversary.

Listening to a lot of Hornchurch regular restaurant goers this place is a gem and held in the highest regard however this is my third and final time coming here. The food has flavour but it definitely doesn't taste authentic. It is over salted and lacks any similarity to some of the Thai classics. Added to the mix is that the service has taken a hit with a massive increase in takeaway orders meaning the waiters struggle to keep up with their dining in customers. My preference food and service wise is Thai River, the decor is dated and it lacks a bit of atmosphere but the dishes are of a much higher quality.

Visited after lockdown eased. Very impressed with the safety aspects. Hand sanitizer on entry, plastic screens between tables, 7 tables only and staff masked. Only problem was the covidiots collecting takeaways without masks-who do they think they are Michael Gove or Dominic Cummings. We ordered thai dim sum, duck rolls and rice cakes. We followed these with veg pad thai, weeping tiger, jungle curry, duck curry, stir died aubergine and rice. Food was delicious and service excellent.

Had a takeaway last weekend, it was absolutely fabulous. The food was as brilliant as if you were sat in the lovely restaurant. It was piping hot and brilliantly presented. We will be back!!

Rather disappointed with the food served. They have really westernised the offering with little resemblance to true Thai tastes. For example Pad Thai was served with no accompaniment which is really required to bring out the true Thai taste. Overall I’d say the food was rather bland. Service OK but the whole experience was lacking and also rather expensive for what we got.

Was with a large number of friends on Saturday night , they looked after us , with excellent service , and first class food, great choice of dishes . Can’t wait to come back soon , thank you to all the staff that made our evening so lovely .

When we booked the table, we were worried that the restaurant had not understood our request for the table. It was three weeks in advance for five people, we needn't have worried. Service was brilliant, we had an excellent meal last night at Sukhothai.It was busy when we got there for 7. It was busy again when we left at 9.30You will need to book.

Best Thai restaurant in Essex for us, I am a lover of Thai food, I’ve been to some really bad ones, this one however has fantastic food. Staff very friendly and always smiling. It creates a nice atmosphere, food was cooked perfectly. Very very nice. The green curry and duck curry was fantastic and the best pad Thai I’ve ever had. Top marks.

if you are visiting the Sukothai try the Penang curry and prawn pad thai very good. Very busy at weekends so it would be preferable to book first.

Came here on Friday night with my daughter and her boyfriend. The place was packed and we were lucky to get a table. Advice is to book if coming on Friday or Saturday night. The decor is lovely and the waitresses dressed in colourful traditional clothes. But for me the best was the actual food itself. There was a huge choice including a separate vegetarian choice if you are a vegetarian. I had Thai Fish cakes for starters and they were superb. You could taste the ginger and chilli. I then had the stir fry noodles and tofu in spring onions and ginger. I asked for extra chillis and they did not disappoint. Superb food so delicately flavoured. The waitresses were very smiley and polite. The orders taken in good time. The food came out in good time. And the best was the price! We had three courses and it turned out to be £24 a head. However, only one of us had an alcoholic drink so if more alcohol was consumed it would have been more expensive. This place is 15min away from home so it’s become my favourite local restaurant. Great meal. Will come again.

Sukhothai is a great place to come with family, friends or a couple. Inside it is a bit small but that creates a buzzing atmosphere. Food is delicious and staff are always willing to help recommend dishes from the abundance of food available on the menu. Food is reasonably priced and offers great value for money - especially the set menu offerings. Takeaway is equally good and so this is one of my go to Thai restaurants.

Good value lunch menu with lovely food. A particular favourite is the papaya salad! Good food in a relaxed environment.

Ambience is nice, relaxing seating area, always busy. We had the papaya salad which is hot and sour, very mouth watering, tom yang soup, tangy and can taste the lemongrass- just what I needed for my cold, prawn curry and rice. The food was glorious but I don’t think we ordered enough for two people. I would highly recommend booking in advance and there is no immediate parking in front of the restaurant but there is parking at Sainsbury’s which is approx 10 min walk away. Nice place. Staff were very friendly and professional.

Although haven't been for a few months the standard has always been of the highest standard and the staff always friendly.

After reading the reviews myself and friends booked a table on a Friday night. Very busy, & loud. I found the food disappointing compared to other Thai restaurants I have been to. Seemed very greasy for Thai food. The waitresses didn't look happy, in fact all of them gave the impression that they would rather be somewhere else.

We were visiting the theatre in Hornchurch and don't know the area so did a bit of research and Sukhothai looked like a good option. We had booked a table but it would have been ok as it didn't start to get busy until we were going to leave (so prob need to book at peak times). With so much choice on offer, we went for one of the set menus for 4 - they were kind enough to allow us to sub the curry for a different one and this was great.

My friend and I were really excited about eating here. Instead of going for our usual Italian meal, we called to book here. When calling to book we were offered 9pm. I said that's too late as we were hoping for 6.30pm, this was agreed but we had to leave the table by 8pm. We arrived at 6 (after calling that morning and agreeing) and no one was in there. We burst into laughter because we assumed it would be heaving. They let in many walk ins which my friend and I found insulting. The food was so bland it was unreal. I've had better tasting microwave meals. The service was ok. We both felt like they just wanted us in and out. It was cold as the AC was on, even though it was quite a chilly night. The food arrived quick. There wasn't much choice on the dessert menu. From the outside the restaurant looks so good and authentic. But this wasnt Thai food, it was very lame Chinese food with no flavour. I will not be returning to this restaurant and I will not be recommending. This is my whole honest review on my own experience.

Sukhothai is a fab family run Resturant. All the flavour and authenticity of Thailand on your doorstep. I’ve been here several times and will keep coming back, the food is second to none. Service is always fast and polite and the decor/setting is really comforting. Would highly recommend this place, great for special occasions or date nights.

This is a really lovely restaurant with consistently delicious food and excellent service. The tom yum soup is hot, sour and very tasty. The duck is wonderful, as is the prawns in tamarind. The honey bananas are superb. I cannot rate this restaurant any higher - always a treat.

Have visited this restaurant lots of times but never reviewed. We visited on a Thursday evening 2 couples for dinner, booking is a must and even on Thursday it was packed. This however does not affect the service or food, our meals were amazing, we had a selection of starters; satay, tempura vegetables and duck rolls. Main courses consisted of mussels which were huge, river prawns, Panang curries and pad Thai’s and Sticky Jasmin rice. We have visited the several Thai restaurants in Hornchurch before, but Sukhothai is by far our favourite and great prices. The reataurant is as authentic as the staff and food. A must try!

I've been to Sukhothai several times over the past few years and have always had a good time.

Well located in the centre of Hornchurch. Friendly helpful staff and gave advice on what dishes to try for my guest who was visiting from Spain. A good range on the menu with food nicely presented and tasty. Had a sharing platter for starters and a red and green chicken curry which were both good.

My 2nd time visiting Sukhothai, the restaurant is small so make sure you book a table. It can also get a little bit noisy when all the tables are full.

Haven’t been here for a couple of years & decided to give it another try.

Used to go in here all the time but it has gone down hill. We walked out today. The girl didn't even acknowledge us or give us a menu even when she saw us sit down & we had asked for it. She just ignored us and went to serve another couple. At least give us the menu & say you will be back in a minute. She is rude as well, she once asked me previously if I was pregnant (which I wasn't!), when I said I wasn't, she carried on going, oh you must be and then went to touch my stomach. I was furious and very upset. I don't think the food is anything special, esp the lunchtime menu, evening is not too bad. Their gaprow is not very nice. Won't be going here.

I had pad thai which was divine. The food is fresh, the portions are good, the staff is really kind. It is a bit pricey, but it's quality we're paying for.

Love this restaurant; flavours are to die for, very authentic thai food. Love the service - just amazing. I am obsessed with the sticky rice - so delicious with a curry.

We visited Sukhothai for a very rare night out, never been before and once inside the decor was lovely and authentic so was the traditional dress of the staff.

Returned here for the first time in ages for my sisters birthday meal and was impressed. My husband and I usually go to Thai River but will add Sukothai to our list...

I've lived in Hornchurch for three years now and I've just visited Sukhothai for the first time. Food was yummy and reasonably priced. The decor and atmosphere were great too. Highly recommend.

The service is always good. The food is delicious. Make a booking just in case as sometimes they are very busy. Definitely recommend them.

Will be short and to the point. Amazing food, very friendly and helpful staff in an authentic surrounding. A must go to restaurant if you love authentic Thai food.

First visit to this restaurant, we arrived at 5.30 unfortunately no alcohol until 6 o'clock , didn't matter because by the time we had the crackers and dip the beers arrived.

As two food lovers, myself and my husband have really taken a shine to this restaurant. Many of the Thai restaurants in London are not particularly authentic so we were not expecting to find something so great out in Hornchurch! Its easy to get carried away as the menu is extensive but the dumpling starter and the massaman curry main really steal the show for me. The staff are attentive and very helpful. Its worth booking a table here as it does get rather busy.

This is by far the best restaurant I’ve ever been to. The food is lovely and the staff are so welcoming and friendly. You feel so comfortable and relaxed and the vegetarian options are delicious. It’s perfect for any occasion, and is definitely the highlight of Hornchurch. I just wish that I had found it sooner! Left the restaurant very happy.

Having grown up in Asia happy to confirm this is very high quality Thai food. Easily the best we’ve had in London. And served with a big smile. We will be back!

This is a lovely little place, friendly and family-run, offering good tasty food at fair prices. Straightforward, and welcoming; and fully deserves its TA 'Certificate of Excellence'. – why can’t all restaurants be as good as this?

Have not been here for years, and was pleasantly surprised how good the curries were Starters were small but adequate. But the main courses had great flavours and good prices. Little note of caution took ages to get the bill, but didn't spoil evening.

Honestly my favourite restaurant in the nearby area! Really cute little restaurant, staff are friendly and the food is amazing!!! Highly recommend the drunken beef and the pad Thai! Best Thai food around hands down!

I’ve eaten here often and I’ve got to say this is the best Thai food I’ve ever tasted! Every dish is full of flavour and the staff are very helpful, my husband is not a fan of hot spicy food but they always go out of their way to adjust their dishes to his taste.

I used to love this place, but sadly my opinion has been lowered. I’ve been getting takeaway here for just over a year and I i always thought it was amazing - really authentic, great flavours and good prices. Plus they mark the takeaway menu up with allergens, which as I need gluten free is brilliant. Unfortunately over the last few months, i’ve been less than impressed, as the chicken seems cheap and i’ve ordered a few times, so it’s not a one off. It has a strange texture, like the cheap chicken that has been pumped full of water, and which leaves you wondering if it’s even been properly cooked. It’s put me off ordering again, which is really unfortunate.

Went on recommendation and was not disappointed. Small restaurant with wonderful service, made to really feel welcome. Had giant river prawn curry with rice was amazing. Lists of veggie options including a set meal!

It has been a few years since we last ate at Sukothai and I'm pleased that it hasn't changed. There was only a few other people in the restaurant. The food was delicious. We had two courses with a good bottle of wine which came to £75. So a little expensive for a last minute meal out but it is good.

Love the food here - it's always busy so have to book and has two sittings on a Saturday so you have to choose between eating early or late but it is always worth it! Very friendly service too.

Nice place, good service. Not that many vegetarian choices, they are however clearly marked on the menu. What was available was excellent.

If ever we want a spontaneous meal out this is my husband and I's go to restaurant as the food is always guaranteed excellent! You should book on the weekend because it's always busy. We have been lucky a couple of times and got the last table but sometimes we've had to go have a drink somewhere and wait (it's small so there's no bar/waiting area).

I love Thai food and heard a lot of good things about this restaurant. From the moment we walked in we were impressed. From the decor, to the amazingly friendly and welcoming staff, the atmosphere and down to the food. The only slight complaint I have was that the curries we tried lacked flavour compared to the starters. I had Thai green curry and compared to others I have had, it tasted pretty similar to a Chinese chicken curry. It still was very tasty and the starters were perfect. I will definitely be back.

Never eaten Thai before. Walked past this unassuming place many times without realising. Only booked because I wanted something different for amy son's 18th birthday meal, and was not disappointed. Great food. Welcoming staff. We had a great evening. Will certainly be going back.

This is the first time I have tried Thai food, and wow this place did not disappoint! I've never tried so many dishes with so many flavours. Every dish I tried was delicious- the masaman curry was my favourite. Even their prawn crackers were tasty! The staff are so friendly and can't do enough for you. Will definitely be going back.

This Thai restaurant is in the centre of Hornchurch town centre. Very good selection on the menu and had the crab claws to start and chicken red curry for main. All tasted really nice and served by friendly charming staff. The restaurant is quite small and my only comment would be is that some of the tables are very close to each other and the lighting could be dimmed a bit ( as was very bright).

I love the lunch offer of starter and main for less than £10. My favourite is the tom yum soup, which is a must for me everytime I dine there. The fried noodles are also very delicious. The spicy prawn crackers is also a must have to go with the meal. The jasmine tea is the best drink to go with the delicious food. Love the decor and the staff are very polite.

The food at this restaurant is so yummy, the mixed started platter with the crab is delicious. The masaman curry is so nice with coconut rice, your best to book in advance as its quite small.

This is not our usual Thai in Hornchurch - but we decided to give it a try, and we were not disappointed! Restaurant is very clean, as you would expect, and the decor is fresh and bright - makes you feel like a little corner of Thailand in Hornchurch! Food was lovely - we had vegetable tempura for starters, various Thai curries, and I had the Pad Thai noodles. All delicious. Service is brilliant. Very friendly, helpful and willing to make small changes to menu (vegan/vegetarians in party). Good value too, was approx £20 per head (starter, main and one drink). Also tried the banana fritters which were amazing! Gorgeous Movenpick ice cream on the menu too. Almost got all the stars, but we were sat at a table a little cramped. However, next time, we shall book, and probably get a better table with more room (there were 5 of us on this occasion). I shall definitely return to this lovely Thai restaurant!

Went here with high expectations and I was pleasantly surprised. The food was delicious & authentic, the service was excellent and the staff were friendly and polite and the food came out fast! I will certainly be returning to get my fix of good quality thai food in the near future.

Have eaten in both Sukhothai and Thai River twice each now and Sukhothai is by far the better......especially as they are both priced the same. If you want a Thai/Chinese meal in Hornchurch give this one a go!!!

Got a takeout tonight from here. Really friendly people, great tasting food. I liked the decor of the restaurant, would like to eat in, in the future.Well recommended.

The place felt "right" as soon as we walked in. We arrived as the last service and the staff were very welcoming. They quickly set us a table and just asked if they could bring all out food at once as they were closing the kitchen which wasn't a problem. As we sat waiting for for the food to arrive, the smells wafting over from the kitchen were incredible. Everything was very tasty and portions were a good size and reasonably priced. Only criticism would perhaps be the rice was not large enough for the curry dish served but that is the only bad thing I could say. Friendly, efficient staff, homely, welcoming ambience and excellent Thai food. Highly recommended.

This was my first visit. The food was nice. Some dishes were better than others but everything was priced decently and overall my group were happy with the food. The authentic flavours were all there and dishes were presented well. The staff were polite but I wouldn't say the service stood out compared to other restaurants in the area. The restaurant was a little outdated and could do with spring clean which would have improved the dining experience. Definitely keen to visit again and try some different dishes.

Decided to try the 2 courses for £9.95. Absolutely hit the spot. Starters of chicken satay and mini spring rolls, though on the small side, they were gorgeous. Mains of chicken panang and Thai green curry were delicious. Will be back to try other dishes.

Mum had no idea me and the family were going to be here...well surprise surprise !Had a lovely dinner, me and my friend had the 'Bangkok Set Meal' which was £19.50 per person.We got a starter, main plus tea, coffee or ice cream with that.Everyone else on the table enjoyed their Thai Food as well...so Mum had a good 54th birthday ☺!

Booked table for 4 on Saturday night and we had to take an early 7pm slit for 2 hours max. as place is so popular and busy. After our meal I appreciate why. We each had different dishes and all were well presented, tasty and traditional. We had a really enjoyable evening, average service though with 10% automatic gratuity. Not cheap but good quality.

I'm sure the food in here gets better each time! We had a table for 5 for my dads birthday - they could only do a table at 7pm (you must book Friday and Saturday nights they get busy) & told me in advance we only had 2 hours which was disappointing but none the less we had a lovely meal, good wine and good service all at a reasonable price.
