Suburban in North Down

This is one of our local cafes. Very pleasant staff and good food. We visit several times every week. They have continued to provide takeaway during the lockdowns. In fact, this time they have left some tables and chairs outside so you enjoy your takeaway in the fresh air. In response to a previous reviewer, the staff do set the tables and chairs out but customers are inclined to move them, so just be aware that there is an ATM outside the cafe and you might be best to move your table to keep access to the ATM clear. There is plenty of room on the footpath.

Was sitting outside in the only designated seat and table left, drinking a lovely latte. Was approached by the waitress and told that if someone was getting money out of the bank machine behind me I was to move out of the way. Very unpleasant experience and as I sat on a designated table set out by the coffee shop themselves I felt this to be highly inappropriate. If it was a problem, the table should not have been there and I should not have been made feel as if I was dishonest due to where I sat. Was it because I had a motorcycle helmet in the ground beside me ? I will not be visiting again.

Pleasant staff, lovely selection of scones and cakes and always clean. One of our favourite places for a cuppa.

I've been twice now, once for breakfast and once for lunch. It's a fairly traditional menu-Ulster Fry, sandwiches, toasties, paninis and soup, but its very well done. The food all appeared to be very fresh and homemade, and the tomato and lentil soup was particularly lovely. The staff are friendly and its a comfortable place to visit. There is on-street parking around it so its easy to get to-definitely recommended.

Called in with my wife for a brew Sunday afternoon 28th April. Great selection of food available and both the stew and the pancakes chosen were tip top. Staff were attentive and chatty, despite being busy. This was my first visit and I am looking forward to calling again.

Our dogs get groomed nearby so we pop in to Suburban for brunch while e wait.The staff are all so friendly and helpful.There is suitable access to the cafe and to their toilets for wheelchair usersI had the short stack with crispy bacon and a flat white.All DELICIOUS We will be back

Lovely cafe in Ballyholme. Happy waitress and efficient service. I had quiche and salad and my daughter had a homemade sausage roll which was huge! Quality food and I recommend! Thankyou.

I’ve been visiting this cafe off and on for years. Service is always good and the owner Peter goes out of his way to make everyone so welcome. His manager Gerry also continues Peters fine work. There’s an extensive array of traybakes and scones and I’ve had a few breakfasts that were washed down with some great coffee. Best in Ballyholme.

My wife and two daughters called into Suburban yesterday following a walk along the beach for a coffee, my daughter t went to pay for said coffees and it was then she noted that her bank card was missing probably dropped somewhere along the walk , My wife and other daughter agreed to stay and have their coffee while my other daughter went home to retrieve her purse, unfortunately this was totally unacceptable by the staff one of whom was incredibly rude and refused to provide the coffees until the money was retrieved approx ten minutes later, this is not a slight on the other female member of staff with dark hair who was very helpful . Its worth noting a couple of things this was not three course meals rather three cups of coffee in the scheme of things costing the retailer PENCE if lord forbid my wife and daughters decided to do a runner, for those unfamiliar with Ballyholme this is not a crime zone rather a middle class idyll on the outskirts of Bangor and like us frequented primarily by locals , So REALLY SUBURBAN SURELY YOU ARE BETTER THAN THIS , suffice to say we wont be back .

Called in for coffee and scones which were very tasty and served with a smile. Would definitely go back.

Been twice over recent days. First day just for coffee and a scone. Coffee was very good and scone was massive. Reasonable prices. Friendly and efficient staff. Second time was for a small lunch which was piping hot and served quickly. Again reasonable.Always busy and close to Ballyholme beach.

Great food, we where there for Breakfast there was plenty of choice,, Excellent A*.. Would recommend

Great place for a quick relax whilst visiting the Ballyholme shops in Bangor.

Visited last weekend for coffee with some friends. The cafe was very busy but staff were handling it very well. Really enjoyed my coffee and scone. Was very impressed.

Lovely bit of lunch with the family today in suburban lovely staff i definitely recommend going her for lunch.

Great food . Plenty of goodies to choose from if you have a sweet tooth. Love that they have plenty of gluten free options. Try the gluten free choc brownie. YUMMY!

Where do I begin. Called past after a lovely walk on the beach, sat inside as the outside area looked like a war zone. 4 members of staff standing talking to each other and flirting with some random. After a significant wait, approached the waitressing staff and there was an attitude that I got out of my seat after 20 minutes of waiting. Kids food was served first, not closely followed by our own. After lunch we decided to have soft whip ice creams, like actual milk, falling off the cones. £40 later for 4 toasted sandwiches and ice creams with shocking customer service, we won’t be back.

Can't comment on the food or service as we were told to take a seat on arrival and they would come over to take order however we were completely ignored we were noticeable as we're the only people inside. Then we watched as two other tables arrived and we're served immediately. while we sat for twenty minutes looking at the three young members off staff to acknowledge us. Got up and left very unhappy.

There aren't many coffee shops in Ballyholme but there a lot in Bangor as a whole so, if you're in Bangor, you'll not go out of your way to go to Suburban. On the other hand, if you.'re in Ballyholme, it's a safe pair of hands. Middle of the road sort of place with free papers and a 'stay as long as you want' atmosphere. The fry was ok, 6/10 on the Ulster Fry No1 scale. I didn't want beans (an English affectation) and the best places offer something else instead. They didn't. Prices about average for what Ballyholme aspires to be.

Visited Suburban with my children- they had hot chocolate and scones and I had a coffee and bacon sandwich. The staff didn't smile or say hello and were surly throughout our visit. The scones were very dry and seemed to be stale.

Super little cafe. We visit frequently. Had an excellent breakfast on Sunday morning. Good menu. Nice coffee. Table service. Good range of bakery items. If in the area I highly recommend.

Nunca he estado en suburbana antes, pero me encantó mi experiencia de hoy. Nuestro servidor de Andrew era muy acogedor y tenían un buen conocimiento del menú y obsequios en oferta. Sin duda volveremos.

Stopped by for a spur of the moment coffee trip. Our server Andrew made us feel very welcome and had an extensive knowledge of the treats and eats on offer. Our drinks and food came very quickly and slipped down nicely (would recommend the lemon drizzle cake!).

I work just up the hill opposite the coffee shop, this place is good to come and work. The coffee is great, there are few refills too. The free WiFi is fast and reliable. The scones are HUUUGE! Well worth a visit.

The coffee at Suburban is excellent and that's a big deal from this fussy coffee lover...!I'm a regular having coffee to go, sitting in and having breakfast every so often. The staff are friendly and helpful. As a regular, I rarely have to ask for what I want as they know already...love that...Highly recommended.

Really nice local coffee shop to relax and enjoy a cuppa. Great food and choice of tray bakes! One of my favourite spots for a coffee! Can't recommend it enough.

Really great coffee shop with a nice vibe in Ballyholme. They best coffee around served by great friendly staff always consistently excellent, true barrista style.we popped in for a coffee today on our regular walk and were tempted by the freshly made sausage rolls, they were the best i have ever tasted.There are many tasty sweet treats that we have also tried, really good scones and cakes that are all baked in house.Also great for breakfast and lunch with daily specials and varied toasties, paninies,stew and soups. We are very lucky to have such a gem on our doorstep,highly recommend the coffee and the food here which is cooked and served by lovely people.

My son (10) says the Suburban produces the best milk shakes !My wife and I love the lattes with caramel shots , teas and fresh food.The service is excellent and prices are average.

Think we all know why a business just works cash only. Is it a tax thing? Maybe not. Food is ok they would need to step it up a gear as there is so many great place to grab coffee and tray bakes in Bangor.

Happened to be passing by on Sat lunch time & stopped for some lunch. Plenty of menu choices, with extra daily specials. I opted for the homemade stew & fresh wheaten, it was gorgeous & went down well on a cold miserable day! Lots of sweet temptations too & staff very friendly. Will definately be back soon.

Love this cafe, I live close by and visit at least once a week, the toasties are tasty and the hot chocolates are yummy. The staff are always very friendly too

Suburban cafe is in the swanky Ballyholme area. Counter service by excellent friendly staff. Great selection of cakes and scones etc.It's fitted in a modern style and really fits in nicely with its competitors in the area.It's only a quick walk from Ballyholme beach.

We went here on a wintry day in February 2015, and overall had a nice experience.The staff are very friendly, the atmosphere pleasant and welcoming. The food is nice/good quality and fresh - they do a wide variety of slushies (kiwi?!), fresh scones, traybakes, coffees, tea, hot chocolates. They also have some sandwiches, waffles, pancakes.I'd definitely recommend to anyone passing through Ballyholme/in Bangor wanting a spot of lunch, it's a friendly and welcoming place.
