Met up outside for tea with family. Ordered food and drink on the App. The food was excellent and the staff are friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Can't wait to visit again.

Prebooked solitary table and enjoyed steak & frites. Table service. Masks to be worn if moving away from tables. Felt relaxed although couldn't approach friends on other tables.

We held a wake here on 26th January 2020 following my mums funeral. After emailing the restaurant, we were able to quickly arrange a meeting with Alex the Manager to discuss our needs. He was very accommodating and agreed to close the restaurant so we could hold the wake there. On the day itself, the room was set up as arranged. There was a lovely polite young man handing out the welcome drinks. The food was amazing. The hot pot was the nicest i have ever eaten, all the guests commented on the buffet, but in particular the hot pot. Staff were friendly and attentive. I’d like in particular to thank Noreen who sorted food, emptied plates away, brought drinks ect, she was in her feet all day/night. Thankyou to all the staff, it was a lovely place to celebrate the life of my beautiful mum. i’d already heard good things about the restaurant, we will certainly return to eat in the restaurant soon.

Family birthday meal . Saturday night but not many people in . Had a dining room to ourselves. Had pre ordered our food as there were 17 people. The starters came quickly and the salt and pepper chicken was very tasty. The steak was delicious with salad and the fish and chips were well received large wedge like chips . The burgers were huge. Staff were so helpful and friendly it made the evening special. The sticky toffee pudding was excellent. Very good value. The bar is large and has lots of tvs for watching football. Great venue.

Family of six between Christmas and New Year. Great meal and superb service! Big portions! Lovely meal.

Visited today with my husband and 2 young children. The food was great and nothing was too much trouble, even provided my 2 year old with an egg with his meal although it wasn't on the menu (egg is his favourite!). Very friendly staff, we'll definitely be back soon

I visited this establishment tonight with a group of about 20 friends for an Xmas meal. The meals were excellent and the service was also excellent.

Went here with work colleagues for our Christmas lunch and could not find a fault. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff they were there on hand whenever we needed them and the food was amazing. Most of us ordered a three course meal and each course was beautiful presented and really great value for money. The options for each course was brilliant as well as great options for vegetarian members of our party.

Not what I thought it would be, however, it would be unfair to give a poor review based on that because the service and polite staff were great and food was fine. Just wish the menu was a bit bigger. Throw a few more meals on the menu and your onto a goodun. Also maybe some music in the dining area. Anyway thumbs up.

Pleased that we used this place for our gathering of about 40 in the restaurant. Private dining in a sports club setting. Food was tremendous with sufficient choice to keep everyone happy. Portions ample enough to satisfy all appetites. Salt & pepper chicken and steak & frites were the most popular. Choice of lagers including Estrella at the bar but the house red wine was also a good choice. No complaints from any of our group and made to feel welcome by the staff on duty.

A gastronomic delight, an exceptional breakfast that left you wanting more and the coffee was a perfect pick me up!

Attended last night, every table was dirty and no offer of cleaning Ordered food and when it eventually came it was not to a good standard, coleslaw was pink with bland cheese on top, ciabatta melt had no taste and the speacial meal was salt pepper chicken with noodles the chicken was bagged frozen chicken over cooked no taste and rock hardNever will the 9 of us ever go back

So i have been to this place today for a family celebration and if i had to give the food a score out of ten then it would be -10 . The room is lovely even the staff were nice but the food is a long way behind . I didnt complain as it was a party and i didnt want to cause a fuss . The service was just confusing with the waitresses shouting out what they had , i had 0rdered fish and chips which they totally forgot to cook which came out near enough when every one had finished as they had to cook another portion for me . When it arrived the look of it turned me heart sick straight away the chips looked like oil had just been poured on them but when i tasted them i nearly was sick . They were slimey and hard and had a very funny taste , i ate 1 and left the rest . I asked the other people on my table what they thought of the food and out of the other 4 people who had ordered fish and chips they were of the same opion. My partner had roast beef and yorkshire pudding , well the potatoes were hard and the yorkshire puddings could of been used to hammer nails in of the others on the table who had the roast dinner they all had the same issue .... on our table the main course was a disaster to say the least . Then came the pudding chocolate cake and vanilla ice cream ... well it should of been but the chef had given mint ice cream instead . So all in all a let down !! Would defo not eat here again thank god we was at a party and i didnt want to make a scene because had i of been anywere else the food would of gone back and i defo wouldnt of been paying ...

Decided to give the recent beer festival a try which was well promoted on social media, what a disappointment. More of a queuing festival, not enough room and not enough staff. Twenty minutes of longer standing in a queue is not my idea of good time, life is too short, we left and went to the cricketers where they serve excellent beer that's cheaper and is served much quicker.

I visited here on Sunday, having never been before, and was expecting a quiet drink by the cricket pitch. Pah! Nothing of the sort. The place was absolutely rammed and people were queuing in single file at the bar (what's all that about?) Anyway...despite the hectic trauma of all the people, this place is really nice. Will return but hopefully at slightly more peaceful time of the week.

My family of 5 recently went to this restaurant for a Sunday Lunch after which I posted a mostly negative review. After a revisit I am happy to revise that review. We again had starters of salt and pepper chicken which was excellent.This time my wife had a Sunday lunch of chicken which was very tasty and the rest of us had fish and chips which was excellent and very filling. I am only to happy to say that we will be visiting this restaurant again. Special thanks should go to staff member Liv who really looked after us all.The beer and wine is also quite reasonable in price.

My family numbering 5 went for Sunday lunch for Father's Day.The venue is very nice and the staff were lovely very friendly but I'm afraid everything went downhill after the excellent starters Salt and Pepper Chicken which was delicous. 3 people ordered the Sunday lunch with chicken and various vegetables, the chicken was very bland and tasteless, my Grandson who is very picky about vegetables Emailed berorehand asking for things to be left off his meal,but it arrived as a norma lunch and had to be replaced. My Son in law ordered the Sunday lunch with gammon which came as 3 strips of thick boiled ham like something you would get at a supermarket. I ordered the Chicken and Leek pie which came sat on a load of chips with a pile of overcooked mushy peas.I am a keen cook and regularly make Cheese pie but I struggled to get any taste of either cheese or leeks and in the words of a well known chef it had a soggy bottom. I was very disappointed with the whole experience, but what suprised me most has no member of staff asked did we enjoy the meal even though plates had plenty of uneaten food on them. Unfortunately nobody wanted to spoil an otherwise pleasant day by complaining at the time. My daughter sent an Email the day after and as of today's date had not received a reply. Suffice to say we will not be returning to this restaurant again.

Never eaten here before but will definitely be coming back. The food was delicious, home cooked and fantastic portions. We had a set dinner on the Sunday £18 for 3 courses well worth it for the quality of food! The tomato and roast pepper soup was amazing! Highly recommended

Came on a Friday evening with my boyfriend spare of the moment plans, second time visiting here lovely and relaxing, our waitress Nikki was so lovely and very attentive, the food portion size was so much bigger than the first time we visited! Will not leave feeling hungry.

We visited the sticky wicket on easter sunday for a family meal. We booked in advance as it seems to get pretty busy here and the restaurant area is limited to around a dozen tables. The menu is small, but in keeping the quantity of dishes down they excel in offering outstanding food. Having opted for the roast beef dinner, I can categorically say that it is the best roast I've had at any restaurant, with everything on the plate freshly cooked to perfection. There were compliments from the rest of the family too, with the steak pie receiving acclaim too, filled to the brim with meat and in a beautifully soft pastry.

We decided to take a walk up again on a Saturday afternoon for a few drinks & a meal... again faultless & perfect in every way, staff friendly & meal was definitely 10/10 👌🏻 xxx

Looking for top class service throughout, from booking help, through service and quality food for a special occasion for a large group of friends and family then look no further. Hot and cold buffet which catered for everyone (ok, your choices from the menu are important), staff for whom service and making you and your guests welcome is obviously first nature. We asked for a bigger vegetarian selection and it was no problem. We would have no hesitation in recommending them.

We only live 5 mins away from Sticky Wicket but have never ate here so thought we would give it a whirl and was not dissappointed. We had the Valentines menu which started with a flatbread sharer which was delicious.For mains both myself and my hubby had beef rossini. The beef was cooked perfectley and the madeira jus and accompaniments complimented the rossini perfectly. Desert was a sharing pudding platter that was as equally delicious as the main and starter. The meal came with a bottle of house wine and there was plenty of choice. The restaurant has a very chilled vibe and our waitress was very attentive. We will definitely be returning, Thank You Sticky Wickets.

Attended the Sticky Wicket to celebrate my mum's birthday. A great venue with excellent service by all staff, who were very attentive. Food was of a high standard and delicious. Wonderful presentation of all dishes. One waiter overheard we were celebrating a birthday and brought a candle for my mum and wished her happy birthday. Kept it discrete which pleased my mum. I would highly recommend the restaurant due to the relaxed atmosphere and friendly ambience.

Second visit this one with the family after my wife and I enjoyed an excellent meal there recently. Sunday lunch big filling and value for money. Family happily well fed!

Attended a Christmas Dinner and Dance at Sticky Wicket last night. First the good news. A great venue, excellent entertainment and good staff. Now the bad news. The management had clearly not staffed the event to match the numbers attending. The invitation stated doors open 7pm and please be seated by 7.30pm. we did just that and waited for the meal to be served. Our table was served at 9.40pm with our first course and 10.15pm with the pudding. The party was in full swing before we were served hardly helping us to enjoy the meal which was as it happens very good. I'm not sure of the numbers attending but must have been upwards of 150. With only three servers and one sometimes two bar staff it was always going to be a disaster. Sorry for the negatives but the management must examine their planning for such big events in the future. I made my feelings know at the event and I had the greatest sympathy for the staff present who were doing their best under difficult circumstances.

Held our tennis clubs Christmas meal here last evening and it was great. Food delicious, staff excellent and great atmosphere. Planning for the event was easy and we were given the opportunity to arrange seating etc to our needs. Highly recommended

Went to this restaurant for first time. And what a fantastic choice of eye catching options. I had the Thai fish cakes. That’s came crispy with just the right amount of spice nice dipping sauce . For my next course sirloin steak good quality steak , tasted proper with all the classic accompaniment . And special mention for the staff nothing

My first time here and I have to say the food was absolutely amazing. The homemade soup was lovely, pate with caramelized onion was the best ive ever had. Definitely worth a visit and I will definitely be going back 👌

We was looking forward to a meal for two. Instead of a family meal.

Is this eatery in a time warp? Recommended by a work mate, my partner and I were looking forward to a nice meal out. We arrived without booking but the young lady serving, very kindly obliged and found us a table without any fuss. However, perhaps a bit over optimistically, we thought there would be some decent vegetarian options. The main meal included 2 choices; a pasta dish and a Burger, none of which appealed, especially the pasta. We made our apologies and left. The man we spoke to showed no interest, carrying on quickly to speak to another staff member. Considering that vegetarian and vegan are the fastest growing diets in the UK, this is cause for great disappointment.

We visited this restaurant on Sunday as part of a large party, first of all for 19 pound a head I expected great things... to have left vowing to never return.

Heard really good reviews about this restaurant so was really pleased to be invited. What a disappointment, especially for the people paying the bill. Service was so very slow, the food was literally cold and the beef was tough. I think most plates were taken away with lots of food left on them. Will not be returning and would not recommend at all.

Moved to St Helens last year, found this restaurant and now will not go anywhere else, we have had breakfast, Sunday lunch (amazing btw) and have had everything else on the menu, never been disappointed.

Garlic mushroom starter wasn't described as such, but came with an assortment of mushroom pieces and varieties, not my cup of tea, would not have ordered it if it had been so described.

Called in last Wednesday only to be told we dont serve on a Wednesday but open the rest of the week, today is a tuesday so tried again. Went to the bar and asked girl what time food was served and told 5pm so got a drink and waited. By 5-30 asked for a menu only to be told we dont serve food today.

A large group visiting to watch a football match happened upon the Sticky Wicket and decided to have a team dinner. They flawlessly fed 15 kids and 20 adults. Well done!

What a lovely place. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The food was delicious and served in a lovely warm comfortable setting. I would definitely recommend this place to everyone who loves good food.

My wife, 2 children and I had a lovely meal last night. The food was absolutely brilliant, nice atmosphere, great pint and cracking service. We will be back there very soon and it will be even better in the summer months when you can sit outside and watch the cricket. Looking forward to it!!

my friend and I ate here on Friday evening, it isnt a big restaurant but the service and food quality were spot on. Will return to try weekend breakfasts and Sunday lunch in Summer.

Went today for Sunday lunch I phoned yesterday to book and they only had one booking left! First impressions a relatively small restraunt area but tastefully decorated and had a nice ambience. We ordered the salt and pepper chicken and pate to start and both had the roast beef dinner which had at least 6 portions of veg as well as two types of potato and the gravy was very tasty. I had the sticky toffee pudding to finish. I would like to come again in the week to try the main menu as I am hoping it's all as delicious as the food I had today. At only £17 For 3 courses of lovely food I shall certainly be returning and recommending to family and friends. Staff also very friendly and attentive.

Visited sticky wickets for the first time today and was very impressed. Really nice and tasty food and not too mean with their portion size also. The roast beef came with every type of veg and potatoes you could wish for and the salt and pepper chicken was piping hot and just what I needed to eat on a cold January afternoon. I will definitely be visiting this local restaurant again soon as it was excellent value for money based on the masses of food and service that we got. 10/10!!!

Great food and service at this surprising spot. Went for a family meal pre-Christmas with no expectations and was pleasantly surprised! The service was fantastic given there was a big group of us and the food really tasty. Everything was cooked fresh and with care. Would definitely recommend and go again.

Went a couple of weeks ago with friends and had a lovely night , great food, great service. Was looking forward to going there with my husband. Went tonight very disappointed, they were short staffed and very busy, must say the food was still nice and the waitress did try, but it was so loud , just couldn't enjoy the food as it was bedlam, the staff looked really stressed and I know how they feel . There were children playing in the bar, and the final straw was when my husband went to the loo and the kids were playing hide and seek in there and knocked into him at the urinal , not the romantic date night we were looking forward to. Felt like Saturday afternoon in a labour club not Friday evening in a restaurant.

I would definitely recommend you eat here the food is delicious. My friend and I had a catch up so took over a table for a couple of hours. Waiter/barman (Sorry didn't catch your name) was very attentive but not intrusive. He was knowledgeable about the food he was serving. Will definitely be back

About time we had a nice restaurant and bar in St Helens. I visited here on Saturday night with my wife and was pleasantly surprised. The food was very nice, the starters we had were fantastic. We were having steak as a main so ordered nibbles as a starter. We got the nachos and the bread and oil with olives. Either would have been enough for us. The nachos were home made and were the nicest we have ever had. We hardly touched the bread, oil and olives. We both ordered the ribeye for main, mine medium my wifes medium rare. They came a little over cooked. They were both medium well, slightly pink inside but no sign of juice at all. They were still nice though. The service was fantastic (thanks Adam) and we were well looked after from the moment we walked in. A couple of things they need to sort out. First, we rang a 5 that day to book after seeing the reviews on here. The phone rang out then cut to an answer phone that said the office was now shut!! It then gave opening times as mon to fri. A lot of people would have give up at that point. We looked for other numbers thinking we hadnt got the restaurant. After about 5 more attempts somebody picked up. They said they were busy and hadnt heard the phone. Advice - change the answer phone message to at least confirm your though to the correct place and ask to leave a number and get back to the person. There were only 3 tables in that night, this could be why!!!

Decided to give the Sticky Wicket a whirl and we were very impressed. Hot smoked salmon was fab as was the pork board. Really good food that lives up to its billing. Service was excellent and look forward to returning.

I would recommend this restaurant to the hilt, it really is top class, the service was excellent and friendly without being forced, the surroundings neat and tidy with excellent views over the surrounding playing fields, we started with a shared portion of salt an pepper chicken slices with various chilli dips then went for the plain old Sunday beef roast dinner, which when it arrived was any thing but plain, the starter was excellent.. but the main dinner was brilliant.. presentation was top class, and cooked to perfection, the quality of the food was about the best I have eaten in the St Helens district, and we eat out quite a lot, I'm so glad we found this restaurant, and will be back to try the rest of the menu.

It was Our second time here we both had the Ribeye steak the first time around and found it be probably to be the best cooked beef we have had in this country, so we went back to try something else , this time we had All things Pig and All things Lamb, Amazing tastes as we shared our dishes and both loved the diversity of the flavours in both meals, we had a bottle of jack rabbit merlot to help along and this was also quite pleasant, we followed mains with a pudding, bakewell tart and warm chocolate brownie, wonderful meal excellent service , Go try this Restaraunt you wont be dissapointed.

Finally a restaurant in St Helens that caters for your taste buds rather than your wallet. The town has been crying out for a place like this where it isn't advertised as "2 for a tenner" and the focus is on the quality of the food rather than the pricing. I have been here twice since it opened and had Ribeye steak the first time and then treated myself to the Porterhouse steak the 2nd time......WOW! I am a huge stake lover and am always disappointed at the quality in the UK in comparison to the USA. If you choose steak here you will not be disappointed! The knife literally glides through as you cut it and the flavour continues long after you have swallowed.

Called in today for Sunday lunch which was absolutely perfect, super smooth mash, proper roasties, melt in the mouth thick roast beef, and 6 veg! Will definitely be back! Compliments to the chef...

The food was amazing! Three of us went and all had different things, we had starters and mains and none of us could fault anything. The staff were brilliant and helpful advising us on menu choices and recommendations. The chef even came out and spoke to us making sure everything was alright. The only negative is the room was a bit loud.

Visited twice, meals are top quality, fresh and well presented. The venue is classy and comfortable and the staff are very attentive. All in all great night out

I cannot rate this restaurant highly enough. The food was superb, with amazing flavours and beautiful presentation. The service was first class. This restaurant is exactly what St Helens needs.

I came here with my mum last night for a birthday meal and a couple glasses of gin. The restaurant decor is fresh and modern with lovely views outside. The menu has a great selection to suit everyone's taste buds - I went for the twisted hunters chicken. It was absolutely gorgeous. It takes what you already like and know from your 'classic' hunters chicken but with a very clever and creative twist. This was paired with Aspen Fries which were light, crispy and delicious.

Great Food, drink, and atmosphere. Since renovating they have really brought this building back to life and a perfect place to watch the cricket from. Highly recommend!!!!

We went for a family outing with 5 adults and 3 children under the age of 6. Experience excellent from start to finish. Everyone in the party had an excellent meal, food cooked to perfection.
