NOT THE SAVOY, NOT CLARIDGES, NOT GORDON RAMSEY - this is something far better - a real restaurant that is an INSTITUTION in Stranraer gracing the town centre with superb food with a combined Scottish and Turkish welcome - particularly mentioning the owner Meckmed who works tirelessly to bring to us meals of great quality and finesse - his staff being so nice and welcoming too - this is such a special place and those who have written rotten reviews should go to the best in London where they will not find the special ingredient Starfish has to offer - Well done Meckmed and your staff - well done indeed - the STARFISH IS SPECIAL!

We popped in to the Starfish for a quick cuppa and a bite to eat. It's a clean place, with traditional chip shop fayre as well as pizzas, kebabs and various goodies adding to a varied menu. Prices are reasonable too. It was cash only which is fine as we had cash but there was no option for card payment we could see. We'd go back, no problem.

Visited here on our way to get the boat. Restaurant was brilliant, a real traditional fish & chip restaurant. Prices were excellent and service was excellent. Would recommend to anyone wanting tasty fish and chip.

Horrible !!!!! The worst I have had in a long time, chips were like crisps, all of them and the batter was anaemic with no flavour, I can’t believe they have the audacity to sell such rubbish, even a local said the best fish and chips in Stranraer are in Morrisons Cafe

We had take away fish and chips, haddock supper, plaice supper and scampi supper. We asked for no salt. All staff seemed pleasant and polite, but sadly the batter on all the fish seemed to have been soaked in salt, and the thin plaice was inedible. The thicker haddock was mostly OK, though a bit dry, after removing the batter. Chips were soggy with some salty bits. I think this is the worst fish and chips I have encountered in the UK.

By late afternoon we weren't that hungry but our guest house didn't do evening meals, so we opted for the over 60's menu thinking the portions would be smaller. The waitress didn’t quibble about our age, but we really did exceed the criteria as well as looking bedraggled from the strong wind. Our meals were however not as expected because the portions were very generous as well as delicious. The menu is considerable so there is something for everyone, but choosing might be difficult. They say they have the best Fish & Chips in Scotland, but I've been to others saying the same thing. In my mind they are in the running.

A very nice stopover for lunch: the fish was fresh and beautifully cooked. All the extras made it very good value. Staff were friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend if you are in Stranraer

Great value for money. On first visit cod and chips (one and a half fish!) and macaroni and chips. Both excellent. On return scampi and chips and cottage pie and chips. Equally good. Inexpensive, well cooked food and friendly staff.

How can you get fish and chips wrong? Go to this place! The worst meal I have ever had. The order was for 2 fish and chips, scampi and chips. Onion rings and curry sauce. 2 pots of tea and a coffee. First off staff appeared miserable and grumpy, tea and coffee brought out but then the meal took 30 minutes. Batter soggy, fish appeared to be in the heater for some time. Chips rubbery and definitely not fresh. The scampi, wow I think they nipped to tesco and got frozen scampi to cook. Onions rings, now they were nice, crunchy but slightly undercooked. Curry sauce edible. Did not complain as staff unfriendly, grumpy and unapproachable. Yes we watched how your staff interacted and watched your "cook" he clearly needs to go to cookery school. In fact the whole experience was just unbelievable that it is hilarious! Gordon Ramsey would have a field day with you lot! Utter garbage.
