Went up to the Star Inn, Whiteshill for Sunday lunch today. An amazing experience, Roast Beef and Turkey, with all the trimmings including fresh seasonal vegetables. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. I would highly recommended a visit, booking recommended.

For people hiking the Cotswolds Way or just stopping by the area: stay here! Whiteshill is the "town-on-the-hill near Stroud. It is a sleepy little town with magnificent views, a beautiful church, a cute little town store that serves coffee and fresh baked goods (it is also a short 25mins hike to a Tesco Superstore!!!). Talked with a local "Whiteshillian" and he told us that the new owners of the Pub/Hotel are "very nice people". We're pretty sure that is true. The rooms have updated bathroom facilities with great water pressure and very hot water. The beds are very comfortable. Certain things are a bit dated: like coffee machine, carpets, sofa, a couple of ceiling lights out...but clean...very clean. A work in progress. Pub seems to be very popular, was full on a Monday night. So, bottom line: stay here for a unique stay/area. Also, nice to support a working couple keeping a pub/hotel alive. Whiteshill, who woulda thunk?

I spent 3 hours in this pub with two elderly friends, we stopped for lunch. Apparently it's under new ownership. They have a Greek chef so we chose to have Moussaka with a feta cheese salad and really chunky chips (£15 per head). One of my friends had exactly the same only as a small plate. Beautifully cooked and presented which we really enjoyed. We were so full we didn't need any desert. As the weather horrendous we sat with a pot of tea and a cafeteria for quite a long while waiting for the weather to ease. Although a very old pub, very smart and modern ladies toilets and easy access for anyone with walking difficulties so long as you enter by the side door. One friend who knew the area said they had vastly improved the view from the rear of the Inn looking over the valley. It was a very pleasant place to eat, no overpowering music and the seating is either in the conservatory which was light and bright or in the more traditional side which was darker and cosy. They're open for B&B and are starting Sunday lunches from the end of September. I would certainly eat here again.

Awesome place. Amazing views from the beer garden. We stayed in a suite, which was amazing, loads of room and a really comfortable bed. Reasonably priced pub serving great food with friendly staff. We had the greek kebab, delicious, as was the breakfast. Dog friendly. We will definitely return.

We had a wonderful time at the Star Inn. The food was wonderful and the owners went above and beyond. The location is good for a walk in the Cotswolds. It was fun staying upstairs in a pub.

Just the worst landlord you'll ever meet and so over priced, Stroud has so many more wonderful places to drink so please go elsewhere.

Could be a beautiful pub, but unfortunately the owner is rude and uninviting. No food is served here, despite the sign saying "pizza & pint for £10" Drinks are overpriced too. Plenty of other businesses I'd rather give my custom to

We arrived in Stroud mid afternoon on a Saturday. The kids were starving and every other place we tried to get into was in the process of shutting. Despite Stroud being packed, Milano appeared to be the only place open that was still doing lunch or any type of food for that matter ! The lady behind the counter was super friendly and everything that we had to eat was tasty and really good value too. My youngest especially liked the Spag Bol and the proper milk shake made with ice cream. Don`t be put off by some of the reviews on here, it`s a nice place and really friendly. Just don`t go in expecting a restaurant, the clue is in the word cafe !

We were on our fourth visit to this up-market garden centre; with a garden and fancy-goods shop, a food/farm shop, a restaurant, and a meeting-room complex. We had made a lunchtime reservation, but being early, we had a good look-around the food and farm-shop. We saw a few foodstuffs that we fancied for a couple of snacks to enjoy at home over the next day or so (these were really very good sausage rolls and scotch eggs). We also bought some jars of pickles: Gooseberry and Coriander, and also Piccalilli: these were ideal accompaniments to our foodstuffs. As planned we took our table at 12:15, for an early lunch; as daylight fades by mid-afternoon this time of year, and ideally we needed daylight to visit a nearby National Trust property. In the event the NT property was closed. On our last visit here in December 2023, we had first tried the delicious ‘Longhorn Beef’ burgers. After a whole year since that time, we just could see how we could possibly not order them again. As this lunch was our main meal of the day we shared a starter of Focaccia bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. I think we were both very glad we decided to share; as this would have been far-too filling to have eaten such a large starter each. The bread was lovely and soft, and there was enough olive oil and the fantastically strong balsamic to ‘go around’. The burgers soon arrived and, as before, they looked great; the rich savoury taste was almost assured. They were without doubt the best burgers that we have enjoyed since the last time we were here. The 6oz burger was flavoursome, hot and juicy with an excellent brioche bun, good melted cheese, gherkins and tomato. There was a plentiful serving of hot, but quite over-seasoned, crispy fries. Desserts were just not going to happen, but the coffee and cold drinks were also refreshing and good. Service was very pleasant and attentive.

We have used Saffron for a few years and it has been super tasty. Unfortunately, the last couple of times just haven't been the same. The bread has suddenly become very dense, thick and almost undercooked. Today my chicken tikka didn't come with the usual salad or yogurt dressing. I love these parts and I really missed them. It was really disappointing as they are an integral part to the dish. I think we're going to try somewhere else now. Such a shame.
