St. Moritz Restaurant in High Peak

Had a lovely meal in unique, comfortable surroundings. Had to book ahead and throughout our visit staff were very friendly and helpful. Great food which couldn't be faulted. A really enjoyable evening. Will certainly return.

We booked a table and when we arrived at the restaurant we were shown to a table upstairs. We were left with menus, and nobody came to take our order or even a drinks order. People at other tables near us, who had been there since before we arrived, were also waiting to order. We realised that when any staff could be bothered to serve anyone, we would be behind these other tables, so we were not likely to be served anytime soon. After quite a long time (I didn’t time it, but it was an excessive amount of time to wait) we hadn’t even seen any staff come upstairs. We decided that if the service was this bad, even if we did manage to order soon, the whole meal would be hard work, so we decided to leave. As we left, no staff noticed us leaving, even though we had to walk the length of both floors of the restaurant to get out. We passed four waiting staff downstairs standing around chatting. They were laughing and joking, so this was a social chat and not a work-related discussion. We wanted to say something to one of them about why we were leaving, but they were too engrossed in their conversation to notice us trying to talk to them! Maybe the food is good at this restaurant, but that is irrelevant if the staff cannot be bothered serving customers. Maybe they have read the positive reviews on here and are resting on their laurels, or maybe they only look after their regular customers. There are plenty of other restaurants in Buxton, so there is no need to risk this one.

Booked for a Friday lunch, but possibly did not need to. Our welcome was warm, the menus great and proicing very fair for the venue. Lovely decor, and a very attractive interior. We were two seniors, visiting Buxton for the Opera House, and we try to choose this restaurant every time as it is always so good. Highly recommend it, but as it can get very busy, then we do suggest that you book in advance.

We ate upstairs which is an unusual space. Quite warm, but not unpleasantly so. Food fantastic, we had a starter portion of pasta, then a second starter portion of gnocchi which was plenty of food. Lovely staff too.

If we’re ever staying in Buxton, this is our go to restaurant. Friendly staff, superb fresh and tasty food and great surroundings. There is nothing to dislike. Love it here.

Great spot for pre-theatre meal. Excellent itialian ambience. Very pleasant waitresses who happily served me a starter-size lasagne as a main course.

We turned up without a booking but luckily we were early enough in the evening to get a table. Service was very good and we enjoyed our meal. Both spaghetti carbonara and calzone spazzolata were delicious followed by ice cream. Definitely recommend (but be sure and book!)

Little Gem. This restaurant is a little gem. Small, but friendly. Excellent service and food. We only manage to get there when we are in Buxton, but it remains our favourite restaurant in Buxton

Heard great things about this place. Sadly the real-time experience didn’t match up. One word. Pizza. I’ve eaten these in Napoli, in Paris, London and all over the UK. This was easily the worse. Terrible bland base and uber minimal equally tasteless topping. Great wine. Great environment. Sadly the one thing you look for in a restaurant - good food was missing.

Best restaurant in Buxton. Fantastic menu choices and quality of food, the penne salmone is so delicious. Excellent service from lovely staff. Its a 10 / 10 from 2 very happy diners

Sadly , I was really disappointed by the meal that we were offered on our recent visit. The Gnocchi Genoese was not what I expected and appeared to be swimming in oil. The service was a lot quicker than usual and I got the impression that it was all about turnover at the cheapest cost which was so at odds with our previous visit under maybe different ownership?.

We visited during October half term where most restaurants seemed to be closed on Tuesdays. The food was great and service was quick. This rating would be a 5 but unfortunately the calzone pudding I ordered was not cooked and the dough was not cooked properly. Other than that lovely restaurant and food.

We had booked a table for 5.30 p.m. but having travelled some distance we arrived early, just before 5 p.m. The sign on the door said closed as it opens at 5 p.m. Two waitresses stood right by the glass door and could see us waiting out in the cold but ignored us. Eventually, I tried the door, and it was open; one of the girls said you can come in! Not a good first impression. We were shown to our table near the door; it was cold in the restaurant, as we were the first in. The two girls continued to ignore us and stood talking at the bar; eventually, we were brought a menu. The menu was extensive, with many dishes, including pizza, risotto, and pasta. We placed our order; our starters came, then the main course, but one of our group was brought ravioli when they had ordered risotto. They agreed to have the ravioli until they tried it and found it was cold. It was sent back, and they eventually received their original order after the rest of us had finished our main course. The restaurant was busy and clearly popular as they were turning people away. Our food was fine, but the evening was let down by the poor customer service and inconsiderate staff who had little to no customer focus.

ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING! It was our first visit here and hopefully not our last. The service was excellent as we were openly welcomed. The food was on another level. It was fabulous quality, freshly prepared and a standard you would expect in a top London restaurant. Wine & food was Excellent value and the whole experience was 5⭐️. Wouldn’t hesitate in a return visit. 🤩🤩

We were upstairs for a party of 6. Great menu and excellent service. The Ravioli Pecse Nero was the standout dish - sensational !! Sadly we are not local so cannot visit again but strongly recommend it to visitors to the area

When you buy a product is a shop like a toaster or a kettle and it is defective, if you take it back you get a refund even if you have used it. This does not seem to apply at St Moritz. If the chicken in your risotto is rubbery (defective) and spoils your experience apparently it's ok to just send the customer away with a second hand thin apology from the mysterious depths of 'the kitchen'. When asked if everything was ok with our meal I explained that the chicken in my Risotto di Pollo Funghi was tough and rubbery. I left most of the chicken but ate the majority of the risotto, maybe that was my mistake. My partner on the other hand had the Risotto Chorizo which was delicious, no rubber. The starters that we ordered was also fantastic. It is such a shame that this review is all the result of fome tough chicken and the managers or kitchen staff complete unwillingness to engage with a customer that was disappointed. I had to ask the waiting staff what the feedback was from experience with the risotto. All they had been told was "the chef said sorry". Not only fid that not solve the problem of an unhappy customer, but it put the waiting staff in the cross fire. To the 'chef' at St Moritz if you value customer satisfaction? Next time a customer isn't quite happy, don't hide in the kitchen, come out into the restaurant and have a friendly chat with to that  customer. Show you care, then maybe you won't get a review like this one.

The food was lovely on a Friday night, and we were able to get a table without the need to book. The menu was varied, and very different to other restaurants. We would return again when next in Buxton.

I didn’t expect to find a Swiss restaurant in Buxton while visiting from Switzerland! While in the town for a conference I visited a couple of times and had some of the best pasta I’ve outside of Italy.
