Having had two positive visits previously we were full of hope and expectation. The service was excellent however aspects of our food were disappointing in so much as both the lobster and the beef were too tough to eat / enjoy. We did inform them and in fairness they did all they could to address the situation including a reduction of our bill which was appreciated. Fair to say with so many restaurants to choose from we are unlikely to be back

We had a few nights in Norwich and noticed this restaurant mentioned a few times so we decided to book a table. We've been to a few places with taster menus and have enjoyed them all, usually you find most dishes very nice and a few okay or not to your taste. Benedicts blew all of those, including the Michelin starred ones out of the water. We had menu 2 and wow! that's all I can say. Every dish was a delight and there was nothing served up that wasn't exceptional. If you go ensure you have the rice cakes, I'll say not more. The service was excellent and we can understand why they were so busy on a Thursday evening. We live a fair way from Norwich but it's given us a reason to re-visit soon.

I've been lucky enough to eat a lot of great meals all over the world, and this one is top 10. Every course was bang on - the only thing which split us was the fig leaf ice cream pre-desert. I thought it was the cleverest thing we'd been fed all night, my wife wasn't keen. The whole menu is clever, thoughtful and perfectly executed cooking with exceptional flavour balance. Service was attentive without being overbearing. If you want something negative then: 1 - it's a long evening of eating - they could do with more comfy chairs. 2 - the "fine wine" tasting menu had a Californian chardonnay which you can buy for $16 in the US.

This is my third visit to this restaurant. The first time, I was underwhelmed but decided to go back for a second time to try the outside dining menu, and it was fantastic 😋 Boom Bainbridge completely nailed it. So I decided to take my partner here for our anniversary meal and we were so underwhelmed. We tried all of the starters - the most tasty things were the chips and the duck croquettes Everything else looked very pretty but didn't hold much flavour. The cheese soup was bland The tortellini was OK but again served with an average tasting sauce, which was bordering on a broth. All of the food is beautifully presented but lacks flavour and depth. The wines are expensive here, and it would be great if there was more choice of more affordable wines The service is always fantastic here, but I resent having a 20% service charge added to my bill. Total cost of meal £195 including bottle of wine two cocktails.

We had such a great experience at Benedicts on Saturday night! Firstly, the staff was amazing, very friendly, polite and extremely well trained, and the food was very interesting and tasty. In particular we loved the lobster in tomato water (the 8 course menu is worth trying to taste this particular dish!). Wine paring was spot on, we truly enjoyed it. I would recommend this restaurant if you love discovering new flavours and combinations. The only negative note was the fact that they didn't really have a gluten free version of every dish, in some occasions they have just removed the gluten from the original dish that lacked of crunch and variety of consistencies.

I took my partner for their birthday dinner, we were really excited as we had heard great things. The food was delicious but sadly the service was disappointing. We waited an hour and a half between our main and our desert, we felt a degree of attitude from the service staff when we felt we had been nothing but polite and patient, we didn’t complain. We heard the front of house staff openly complaining about us when we raised the issue of the wait time because we had to catch the last train home. We understand the pressure of a Friday night service but we were incredibly accommodating and the attitude towards us was totally unnecessary and rude. It was a shame, especially for the price we paid for the meal.

It has been a couple of years since we last dined here, so when our friends invited us along to celebrate a birthday we jumped at the chance. We opted for the full taster menu with the wine pairings, and boy did we have a superb meal! From the amuse bouche to the final dessert, everything was absolutely delicious. Particular standouts were the sherry mousse (always a favourite), the Gressingham duck and the megrim sole. Service was impeccable as always, the staff here really know their stuff and are happy to answer any questions on the dishes or wine. It is just nice to enjoy food to this high standard in a restaurant that doesn’t require you to be overly formal. Thank you Team Benedicts! Hopefully it won’t be so long before we’re back again.

Some very nice elements to the set menu. As individual dishes they were lovely. But I didn’t really feel any flow or natural progression. Food was cooked well and tasty. There were no stand out dishes unfortunately. It was a special occasion so we opted for the fine wine pairing ….that got a bit muddled up and I’m not really sure if what we were drinking was meant to go with the dishes. They were very apologetic and put this right by the main course but for £51 each …. I don’t think we would do that again just in case. What we did drink was lovely and we tried wines we have never tried before. Service was ok , everyone was pleasant…but we were left for a while waiting to catch someone’s eye to ask for some cutlery and had to ask for drinks and coffees. Nice touch that they wiped the crumbs between courses. We aren’t local but would look for somewhere else next time we are in town. We did really enjoy ourselves though and enjoyed everything we ate!

We were really looking forward to sample Benedicts menu, only to be disappointed. It's a shame to write such a poor review based on my experience, here are the reasons why.... The decor, tables and chairs are very dated along with the blinds, making the experience poor! We tried the sample menu, only to be disappointed with the venison - too tough. I didn't get the thinking behind the brieosh bun with maple butter...., the desert was poorly thought out. Personally speaking, we will not return, preferring to go to Morston Hall or Brasteds where every mouthful is a delight!

We had a stellar meal, with first class service, and absolutely wonderful and delicious food. Benedicts compares well to 2* and 3* Michelin restaurants. My wife and I have been to enough to compare, and Benedicts gives them a run for the money. The flavors, the techniques, and the ingredients, combined with the genuine hospitality, are second to none. Our meal was truly superb, and this a diamond restaurant for Norwich. From a price point perspective, Benedicts is worth the price when compared to Michelin starred restaurants which can be irrationally expensive. We had a great experience, and the staff helped take it over the top. Cheers!

This meal was one of our best of all. That said St Benedict's has always been more entertainment than foodie and this tradition persists, today there is a board game cafe and a computer cafe alongside the reliable Pinocchio's and Pizza Express. Tonight though there was fine dining on offer, but you couldn't quite take the Norwich out of the experience. The food was pretty much immaculate. The Trout then Lamb loin were delicious, perfectly cooked and accessoried. The pre-dessert too, a salted caramel tart was perfect - indeed it shaded the mille feuille. The service was however quite noisy and at odds with the evidently serious gastronomy however the Hunters didn't really mind - the food was so good. Insta: @restauranthunters_london

Also, it sounds ridiculous to type out but it's true - one of the things we always look forward to the most is the bread & butter course because the bread is So. Good. We'd been looking forward to eating at Benedicts for quite some time after hearing good things from friends, but although the food was nice, we didn't really feel it was anything special at all. We decided on the set lunch menu, bread and the sweetcorn starter was very nice, but the meal went downhill from there. The main was duck leg but it come with some very uninspiring butter beans. You could also add new potato's to your main for a £4 supplement which we were glad we did, but £4 for a couple of new potatoes. Really?! Desserts again we didn't feel were particularly nice at all. First time visit to Benedicts. Staff friendly and efficient and the flow between courses was just right for us. However, food was a little disappointing. It was nice it was quite good on some courses but no wow factor. Some of the courses were over seasoned and left an aftertaste similar to balsamic vinegar. The lobster raviolo was nice but the beetroot overpowered the lobster. The pre dessert wasnt even half a mouthful so the description of fig and gooseberry and this and that was pointless as there just wasnt enough to tingle the taste buds. Would we go back.....not sure probably not. Richard.....go and visit Meadowsweet in Holt....now that is Michelin dining and you may learn something on flavours from them.

Awesome. Couldn't fault it. Went for the £76 menu. 9 courses. First off, sounds expensive, but when compared to many similar venues tasting menus, it's decent value. A couple of dishes didn't electrify me, but that isn't a slight. I enjoyed every dish, and most of them had me grinning from ear to ear. It wasn't a stuffy restaurant either. Accessible to all, and some aren't. The staff were attentive, introduced the dishes with detail and clarity, and they let you enjoy your meal. No hovering, making you feel you should hurry up. That said, the wait between courses was short. Enough to give you time to savour, but you won't be twiddling your thumbs. Let's put it this way. I'll be back for again, likely more than once. They change the menu according to what's fresh and available, and I'm looking forward to the changes. See you soon Benedict's. Give it a go guys. I highly doubt you'll be disappointed.

We came in for our first wedding anniversary. The restaurant is very lovely inside, bright and spacious, we were seated near the window. Staff were very polite and knowledgeable of the food and the drinks. We both chose menu 1 and I went for the wine flight, my husband had a cider. The food was amazing, the teasers were so tasty just little bites but really flavoursome, the bread smelt like melted butter, it made your mouth water just smelling it and was so fresh and lovely butter to go with. Aubergine was my least favourite but only down my own tastes as my husband thoroughly enjoyed it and polished mine off. I went for sea bass which was delicious, perfect flavours and really filling. My husband had the pork, I tried a little and the flavour of bbq smoke was insane, the potatoes were also lovely. A little fig icecream and cake to follow was delicious then we had a gorgeous gateu. My husband also treated us to a special pudding for extra celebration that was a creamy delicious chocolate mousse! The 3 x small wines that went with the food were lovely especially the orange wine with the sea bass and the staff knew lots about the wine and the history of the wine. Overall it was pricey for a lunch out but an experience we did not regret and I would go again. Also very filling.

The service was very friendly and efficient. The atmosphere is relaxed and chatty rather than stiff which makes the whole experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommend.

A couple in our hotel described Benedicts as "expensive". I'd argue it isn't, for what it has to offer. First, 61GBP for a 6 course set menu is pretty standard. They are also very accommodating. We aren't big drinkers, so we asked to split accompanying wines in two, to try them out, but not to drink too much. And we did the same with cheeses. We wanted to try everything, but to be frank, their main dish was quite big, compared to other restaurants with set menus, where sometimes you get a single piece of meat. All in all, very friendly service, not a single dish I would consider to be weak, and a very reasonable price for that.

My partner and I celebrated our anniversary in June and Benedict’s laid out a veritable feast! The tasting menu was seasonal, fresh, varied and beautifully presented. Adored the plaice with preserved lemon and samphire and the incredible bursts of flavour and surprises from the carbonara...

Benedicts is super special. Each course is packed with flavour and thought and presented oh so beautifully. We opted for the wine pairing which we can highly recommend. Each wine was spot on and the interaction with our super friendly, well informed servers really heightened our meal and made for such a fun experience. Team Benedicts you are phenomenal!

Wheelchair friendly. Busy. Noisy ( poor acoustics ). Amuse bouche good. Bread, however good, and the brioche and granary were extremely good, is an accompaniment and not a course. Hake main was exceptional. Perhaps we caused confusion. One of our party wanted cheese rather than...

A wonderful evening. Service was exceptional. Welcoming and attentive. We had menu 1 with wine pairing. Blown away by the quality and the price of both food and wine. The triple amuse bouche played with the taste buds. The coronation quiche stood out. The first...

Buena comida honesta Somos una familia de 5. En dos visitas probamos y compartimos todo el menú! Todo sabía excelente. Jakey obviamente ama su profesión y sabe lo que hace. ¡Altamente recomendado! Tener una fiesta por sólo unos kilos. .

Really scrumptious with generous portions, chilled atmosphere and a heavenly affogato. Can wholeheartedly recommend the savoury options 👌🏻

We visited the Hidden Chef last night as we wanted to enjoy the experience one last time, and to support Dean and Co in their last weekend at the Brasserie. Once again the food was exceptional and the atmosphere friendly and welcome. We will miss having this wonderful restaurant on our door step but are delighted that we will be able to savour Deans delights from the Deli. Good luck in your new ventures , you deserve every Success these bring ❤️
