Good honest food. We are a family of 5. On two visits we tried and shared the whole menu! Everything tasted excellent. Jakey obviously loves his profession and knows his stuff. Highly recomended! Have a feast for just a few pounds..

Well I’ve been eating my way around Norwich market over the past few weeks and finally it was the turn of Jakey the Bakey. I selected the Cassoulet and found a comfortable place to eat my meal... Post meal analysis - I know for sure that I will never choose to eat from here again. The food served was amongst the blandest I’ve had anywhere and the entire dish was watery and flavourless. The menu board also claimed to serve this dish with bread but this was completely absent from what was handed to me after I paid my money. I was most disappointed as I had high hopes for some great dishes from this stall, but it’s very below par with other meals which can be easily sourced in the market. This place is best bypassed whenever you in the vicinity.

First visit here and I have to ask myself why I've not been before. We went for the Steak Frites and wow were they good. So so good. The steak was perfect and the frites were spot on. Loved it. Will be back.

Had the steak frites cooked medium today and it was delicious. Homemade and great quality. Lovely lady serving, very friendly. Got some Norwich made porridge to take away too. The streak frites was £6.50, very good value for money.

Really enjoyed our pop up dinner at Fat Cat Canary! The cassoulet was delicious, the halloumi fantastic, and the truffle frites were divine!

The market has undergone a transformation recently with a dozen or so foodie businesses complimenting the existing traders. Jakey the Bakey is a clear stand out among them, offering a range of French classics as well as their take on other cuisines. Beef Bourginon is a classic, served in a huge hot hearty portion with fresh bread. Poutine has a constantly changing variety of toppings and sauce goodness. The steak frites is one of the nicest I have ever had, perfect juicy tender steak and herby potatos with a fresh salad for the unbelievably good price of £6! Freshly made cakes are available as a snack or for after your meal (Nigella Lawson rates their madelines) and the warm friendly service from the lovely owners Jake and Maddy mean it is always an enjoyable visit. The cooking is exceptional and needs to be sampled, these guys are going places.

Wow. Visited this stall for the first time yesterday and tried the beef bourguignon. Absolutely delicious! Huge chunks of tender juicy beef, carrots, potatoes and onions in a divine, rich, silky sauce full of flavour served with chunks of fresh doughy French bread. Big portion very filling and all for £5. There isn't a big choice of food - there's poutine, croissants and home made cakes but it's absolutely fresh and cooked from scratch so who cares? I don't do Facebook so couldn't leave a comment but felt I needed to say how great this little stall is so started a trip advisor page! They also do French lessons. Oh and there are a couple of chairs and tables at which to enjoy the food instead of taking away if you wish. Can't wait to go back for another helping.
