Square & Compass in Carmarthenshire

We were hungry after having had a walk in woods . We were so pleased to find that this was open and ready for food to be served in 20 mins or so that we were happy to wait . In the meantime the staff gave us drinks , welcomed our dog and then we discovered that the food was delicious. The chips are home made. We were so impressed that we booked a table for the carvery the next day. The beef was so tender and tasty. There was turkey as well. Nice choice of vegetables. I don’t normally bother with the stuffing but it looked so good that I tried it and loved it. Particularly loved the honey-ied parsnips . Also had copious amounts of gravy on my food as so good. Staff are friendly and amazing . Highly recommended

Visiting our friend Sian in Pontyates and she took us to this pub. Fantastic Sunday roast with very friendly hosts and staff. A must if you're in the area and want a good, wholesome meal.

Love the square and compass, hosts and rest of the staff are great! Always have a great night whether it's quiz, or karaoke. Food is plentiful and scrumptious. Good choice of ales, larger and cider. Only wish they had guinness on tap!

Had a tasty sunday lunch here ,plenty choice of veg even had cauli cheese which was great!! Home made cheesecake was amazing and good portion.Attentive curteous staff ,nice atmosphere in bar everyone seemed to be enjoying lunch. Nice airy bar area,had a few drinks on the patio outside with lovely views.plenty of customer parking.looking forward to our next visit. Thank you All

I dont know any pubs this side, so chose this purely off google. We booked a table for Sunday Lunch, as it was good friends 70th Birthday. Thanks to a teenager with a velcro back( couldnt get it off the bed) we were running late So i had to ring and apologise for running late, something I hate. However the team here were brilliant and only made me feel worse when we got there with some light hearted banter, which set the mood right for the meal. Sunday is a carvery, Been experimental, I thought it only fair to check out all 3 meats, all of which were cooked to perfection. It was help yourself to the vegatables, and a fresh pot of cauliflower cheese was placed out just as I got there. All of these were just right as the story goes. I then felt it would be rude not to follow up with a pudding so had the apple and pecan tart, which complemented the mains nicely Usually I ask names, but for some reason today I forgot. However, The chef serving, the barmaid and I'm presuming landlady, were all friendly and contributed towards a great Sunday Dinnertime visit. And as for the bill VERY reasonable. Thank you all

Absolutely amazing food and service. We only popped in for a quick snack and ordered garlic mushrooms plus nachos to share. The portions were huge and the price so reasonable. The garlic mushrooms were the best I've ever tasted and sooooo inexpensive. We will return here the next time we're in this part of the country. Superb ❤️👍

Food was amazing, very big portions and all home cooked. Homely atmosphere and made to feel very welcome. Sunday carvery was spot on too. They have family days and different weekend entertainment on which looked very appealing. The new owners are doing a fantastic job :) I highly recommend. Ill be back on more than a few occasions 👌 well done alister and rhian :)

New owners, went there, food was nice and plenty of it. The service on this particular night was ver very slow, we had to ask for things. Bit disappointed really.

We both had the best Sunday carvery we have ever tasted, only drawback was the plates are a bit small, but you could go back and fill up with vegetables again. The blueberry cheesecake is sublime and my wife had the trifle which was excellent. Alistair, Rhian and staff are warm and welcoming. We will definitely be back again. Update to this we have been back another 6 times since and still we can't fault the place.

Have recently been here twice for the carvery and it was gorgeous! The new management Rhian and Alister are lovely and the pub has such a lovely cozy atomosphere! Will definitely be visiting again soon.

Fantastic village pub, lovely welcoming landlords. Food was great, as was the felinfoel stout.

A warm welcome from staff and locals. A varied menu which consisted of good home cooked food. Excellent value for money and really tasty, including the vegetarian options. I would highly recommend this pub as a friendly informal one serving really good meals

Went to the Square and Compass for the Wednesday Carvery 12 midday to 2.00. This is a very homely pub and the Carvery was lovely. I had the Roast Pork with apple sauce and lovely fresh vegetables of Cauliflower, Carrots, Peas, Roast and Mashed Potatoes with home made gravy. They also have a Dessert menu with Home made Apple Pie and Custard and a White Chocolate Roulade to name a few. Would certainly visit again when in the area.

If you are staying anywhere near don't miss the Sunday lunch, all home made and freshly prepared, but you will have to book to get in it's that tasty !!! They also do a roast on a Wednesday evening but be worth checking that's still current. The menu is also home made fresh cooked food so certainly worth a visit for a friendly welcome, good beer and great food.
