Spice Village in Bolsover

We ordered a £30 takeaway meal to be delivered, when it arrived a chicken tikka starter was missing, when we realised we contacted the restaurant to explain, and was was told the chef had put the starter in, we was asked to double check, which we did and still no starter. We was told they would send a starter out in ten minutes but it never arrived. You have now lost a regular customer with £30 orders. As your restaurant is always empty, I would of thought you would look after the customer you have. There are lots of takeaways in the village to choose from.

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Village Spice this evening. I had the Rajasthani, which was one of the tastiest curries I've ever had. My partner had chicken dopiaza, which he enjoyed. The poppadoms and pickles were good and the peshawari naan was delicious. We are on holiday in the area and decided to try this restaurant and we're so pleased we did. Just sorry it's not near our home.

This restaurant was a great place until our experience tonight, my wife and daughter went in to eat and ordered their food, this took an age to come and when it did it was incorrect. After another long time they finally got what they wanted, then ordered a takeaway for me which was a king prawn Rogan and 2 naan breads when it came back I had one Rogan some left over food from someone's plate and no bread. I called the restaurant and explained and the lad argued saying my wife was wrong but come down and I'll give you the bread. On arrival he tried charging me for the bread even though it was their mistake. And I left. I came home and opened my king prawn Rogan to find 1.5 king prawns in a funny smelling sauce. The bin ate my dinner tonight. Thanks spice village we will never come back.

The starters was full of oil . The mains , masala and saagwala. Masala bland saagwala full of grease tasteless. Nan bread horrible. Called to complain . Told no refund cos others haven’t complained . Customer service skills zero. Never again will I order from here , shocking service all round . Food diabolical for the price

Went for the Sunday Special offer with family including children ,wr selected our food and was told by the waiter the Sunday offer wasn’t on tonight ! Maybe sharing this with the customers might have been appreciated ,the service was un-believably slow hence there was only us in the restaurant -no surprise at all ,on the plus side the food was lovely and we was offered a comp drink Think it’s time they got their customer service upto scratch !

We stopped in here after a trip to the pub, very friendly staff and the quality of the food was good

Takeaway ......Really tasty food. I had Chicken Tikka Dopiaza and it was nicely spiced without tearing the skin of your mouth. Large pieces of onion and whole cherry tomatoes .....light fluffy cheese & garlic naan bread. My partner had Keema, keema rice and keema naan and said its the nicest he's ever had. Definitely will use again ..... don’t know why we haven’t before as its local to where we live

After being badly let down at the restraint we had booked for our Anniversary we dropped in here to see if the could facilitate us, thankfully they managed to. They gave us a very enjoyable meal, great service and nothing was too much trouble. Well worth a visit!

We have visited this restaurant several times when visiting family in the area. The restaurant is fairly small but does not feel cramped. Everything is clean and well presented. The staff are attentive and friendly. As there were 6 of us a variety of dishes were ordered. Food came promptly and everyone was satisfied with their choice. As someone who does not like my food too spicy the garlic chicken was a perfect choice. Both food and drink menus were extensive and the Spoice Village deserves a good review.

Rang up to order they said they deliver to us gave them our order and all of a sudden they couldn't deliver to us! Said it has to be within a 3 miles radius when we actually live less than 2 miles away! Not impressed! Maybe they didn't like our order! 😂

Takeaway delivered on time and food was delicious! Mushroom rice was the best I’ve ever tasted and also the garlic ban bread. Wouldn’t hesitate to order again. Thank you!

Many times we have visited and also had takeaways- freshly cooked tasty food- with a difference to your normal Indian restaurant. Chef signature dishes are great . Lovely welcome, small, clean intimate restaurant. Highly recommend.

Me and my partner went for a meal here and the service was awful. The guy behind the bar never smiled,mumbled everything he was saying to the point I'd have to ask him to repeat himself. The starter I had was freezing in the middle my partners was also cold. The mains wasnt that appetizing either. The guy rushed us to eat and was disappointed in what was left because it was not eatable. My partner ordered a bottle of wkd blue, the bottle top was rusty... the glass was also chipped. Not happy at all with there service and wont be returning again.

We went last night (a Friday) and was a little surprised it was so quiet which is not always a good sign. However, we didn’t need to worry. The food was really good at a very decent price. The naan breads were amongst the best I’ve had and the curries were very tasty. I had a good chat with the owners and it’s a really nice family run business. Great staff, very friendly. It’s the first time I’ve been and I’m not local to the area but we’ll definitely be back!

The takeaways meals we have had from here have been excellent, friendly staff and good value. My favourite is Bombay Chicken with Coconut rice..Unbelievably good. Worth a try if you have not eaten here before.

We went for the 5 courses for £12 deal and we were not disappointed. Great service, lovely food and atmosphere despite only one other table being in beside us. Will be going here much more often as it’s cheaper than ordering in!

I've been to the Spice Village three times now and it has been awesome every time. I think they are quietly surpassing those stalwarts in the Huthwaite area with their great quality food and unassuming service. I wopuld recommend the plated specials, I have had the Jodhpur Mans and the Ladadbar (hope I got the spelling right). Both are lovely, a feast for the eyes and the mouth. I will definitely be going again and taking friends.

Wow, what a superb little restaurant. The food is gorgeous, restaurant is very clean and cosy, nice little bar and waiting area for pickup up takeaway. Large car park 1 minutes walk away. Staff are very friendly and helpful once you warm them up a bit with chat.

We had popadoms to start, followed by a chicken jalfrezi, garlic king prawn bhuna and paneer masala with rice, naan and sag bhargi and it was all extremely tasty. We were also presented with complimentary Bombay roast potatoes which was a nice touch. Good wine list with bottles only a couple of pounds more than a glass in the hotel we were staying in?! Kingfisher and cobra for lager drinkers. Only very small with maybe 8 tables but a great meal, thank you!!

Ordered from 'Just Eat' Food was delivered on time. Order was well presented and delicious. If there was one thing I'd say to make it 5* other takeaways locally send either a bottle of complementary wine, bottle of Pepsi or extra poppadoms.

After originally putting our order back 10mins our food arrived a further 30 mins later. It was stone cold and had to be warmed up. We had no apology from the delivery driver. The food was tasty, but we were exreamly disappointed.

This is a small cosy family resteraunt .the food is always nice and it is a perfect place for a works or large family meal as they have a private back room

I visited here for the first time in February in a Monday evening with friends. It wasn't very busy probably due to the time we visited. The place was spotlessly clean and tidy if a little small side. The toilets were also very clean. The food was good with a good choice and good service. Not the cheapest place I have visited but decent food and good service means a lot.

We have many a curry from the spice village But the last 2/3 times we have collected a order or had it delivered we have been disappointed! Tonight the popadoms were burnt and the chicken in the curries was tough and we couldn't eat it, not sure what's going off as it is normally fab! 👎🏽

A little over cooked, the prawn was chewy but all had a tonne of flavour. Half an hour early. Would order again.

Having been eating curries for over 30 years I have to say this has been the worst I have had and will not be returning Originating from Bradford which has a wealth of Indian restaurants my expectations may be high but I expected more than 5 pieces of chicken in a £7 curry as for the flavour well there wasn't any apart from vinegar absolutely disgusting I future I will stick with coop ready made curries far better flavour meat content & value for money Either that or get some decent curries sent down from Bradford

Meal was nice but would have been better it was hot. Order was 40 mins late. Phoned restaurant and they explained they were busy. Wouldn't have minded the time delay if the food had arrived hot.

Can't say I was pleased when they first opened as catering for an Indian, one has to ensure good tasting, spicy food but after having gained a place within the community, they have made an improvement in their cooking. Tasty food and my custom is now established.

Waited for best part of 2 hours for food - when spoke to restaurant told it would be 20 minutes. Clearly too busy to care about delivery orders. If I hadn't already paid I would have refused to pay!

Food was okay, arrived warm not hot. We ordered two curries Chicken Tikka Masala and Garlic Chicken Tikka masala which tasted exactly the same and both curries were very sweet! I won't be ordering again, it wasn't my kind of curry.

I have been coming to Spice Village for a number of years now and I am sorry to say that it seems to of gone down hill a little. The welcome is not the same, a little bit abrupt compared to a while ago. The food was hot and ready on time but it seemed to be lacking a little on the taste and spice front (chicken tikka rogan josh) although the chicken itself was very nice. The poppadoms were a little soft and the Bombay aloo was a little lacking on the taste front also, it would seem there is maybe a new chef and that's what has changed.

Ordered my food at 18.30 and was told that it would be delivered at 19.30 which is not a problem. However, it had not turned up by 19.45 so I gave them a call to be told it was on its way, when it was not here by 20.00 I gave them another call to be told it would be a further 10 minutes. We order from here quite often but it will be a while before we do so again.

In all the times we have used this take away it's never taken so long for them to deliver. We waited half an hour past the expected delivery time.

Ordered for 19.55 came at 18.00 but was out so eventualy got my order at 20.15. I also ordered lamb bhuna most tasted like beef and know the difference between them both. I have ordered a few times before but feel let down on this occassion.

We collected our order within 20 minutes of ordering online - it was ready and everything on the order was included. We had a couple of extra onion barjie's in the bag. The food was average: we ordered a Rogan Josh and a Dupiaza and they could have been the same curry as they were very similar. The Cheese Naan was the best part of the meal.

Having seen good reviews for this place we decided to try it for ourselves in the form of a delivered meal placed over the telephone. When the meal arrived it was found to be incomplete however we duly plated up the food and settled down to eat what had been delivered, the food was edible but somewhat uninspiring as the vegetable curry was not as ordered and quite plain. Nothing special by any means.

All other Indians give you poppadoms and pickles with your meal for the same price.
