Cute cafe in school building in Bressay. Serves home made cakes, soups and sandwiches. Friendly staff. Crafts available.

Chose the oatcake platter, which was perfect for a light lunch, with two cheeses and salad. The home-made oatcakes were possibly the best I have ever tried - and I've had a few!

We are regular visitors to Shetland so made sure to pay a visit here when we had a day on Bressay. We had tea and coffee when we got off the ferry then popped back for lunch. Hubby said their filter coffee was full of flavour and piping hot - hit the spot. The tea was good too - nice and strong and served in a big mug. The lunch of paninis with local salad was lovely and freshly prepared, OMG the home made cakes are divine! The staff are very welcoming and friendly. Prices are very reasonable. The centre itself is really interesting with some lovely crafts, pictures, cards etc for sale and a surprisingly large nearly new shop. Highly recommended,

Friendly community cafe in an old school. Today they had cake, coffee/tea/hot chocolate, soup, sandwiches/toasties/panini and an oat cake/cheese combo. Cakes where awesome. Soup and cheese scone very good. Everything is fresh and homemade, and the people running it are cheerful and friendly. I wish them good luck for the future.

Knowing that the cafe was very small and that there weren't any other food options on the island, we rang ahead the day before to check the menu and they arranged to have a dairy free main and cake available for us. As a small café on a small island the menu is comparatively limited, but the food was really tasty and the staff helpful.

Ude fra ligner det ikke noget specielt lokalerne er ikke fantastiske men maden er god. Så kommer du i nærheden af Lerwick er der helt klart et besøg værd.

If you're a tourist on Bressay and want a meal, it’s basically here or the hotel, but don't let that put you off. The cafe is in a converted community centre so it’s nothing great to look at and the view is basically the playground or the car park, but there is a good menu and the service is quick and friendly. We had a toastie, a roll and some coffee and it was all very tasty and very fresh. Just one thing to watch out for, it opens at 11.00 but there is reduced menu until lunchtime so if you want a wider choice turn-up a little later. There are also toilets (including disabled), some local history exhibits and selection of leaflets about stuff to do on the island.

We called in after exploring Bressay, and realised it was just about to close for the day, but the two ladies were charming and friendly, and the home made lemon drizzle cake was delicious. Thank you

You might hear there is a community cafe in an old school and, like me, decide to give it a miss, because how good could it be? Well, now I know what I was missing. This cafe is definitely worth the stop. Delicious food for all kinds of eaters (I'm keto), served by kind people. I wish I'd gone on all my trips, but I'll be certain to stop in the future!

We’d just had a lovely walk on the Isle of Bressay, and were really delighted to find this cafe. Bressay is sparsely populated, and there are very few places to eat. The Speldiburn cafe is hidden away in the old school building at Mail. We had gorgeous home made soup and oatcakes - everything was home made and there were lovely looking cakes. Check the opening times but definitely visit!

Came here for a coffee after running the weekly Bressay Parkrun. Most parkruns end with a chance to visit a cafe and this was no different. We had nice coffee and the service was excellent. I was told by a friend that they do a magnificent bacon and cheese roll but I wasn't that hungry so I opted out. Most of the runners meet here every week and blether about running.

We visited on a wet and windy day, when the superb soups were a welcome warmer. One of us had chicken broth, the other tomato - both were excellent. This is an excellent café, a great community venture with wonderful food and splendid Shetland hospitality.

Caught the ferry from Lerwick across to Bressay. Visited the Heritage Centre and then walked to Speldiburn Cafe about one mile away. There was a good range of food and I settled for the St Clement's cake and a cup of tea. Great views back across the harbour. There was a cruise ship in so had a good view of that as well. Followed up the cake with soup and a cheese scone. All the food was homemade and delicious. The staff working in the cafe were friendly and helpful. Really worth the walk.

Soup and cakes! We both had sweetcorn chowder with a cheese scone which was wonderful. Cakes were mixed, my partner had a lemon cake which was OK and I had a kind of carrot cake which was just gorgeous. Maybe the lemon cake was bought in?

The cakes alone are well worth the ferry journey to this friendly community cafe on Bressay. Our favourite was the orange, pistachio and polenta cake but the lime and courgette cake was also delicious. The only regret is that having each having had a tasty bowl of soup with a perfect cheese scone to start with we didn’t have room to sample the other, equally appealing cakes.

Lovely place to stop along for homemade soups, cheese scones and cakes, along with other lunches and snacks. Bressay is great for walking with little traffic and stunning scenery. Check the days they are open, seasonal variations.

The café is situated in the island's school, which sadly closed - children are now required to travel by ferry to the mainland each day. Welcoming staff got us a menu with a choice of snacks, very good for a small island. Service was quick and the food very tasty. With a small Heritage Centre and a shop, Bressay is well worth a visit and the café certainly is.

Really friendly staff who were so friendly and welcoming. We went after parkrun on Bressay one Saturday and it was the perfect place for a warm cup of tea and some breakfast. Apple and rhubarb flapjack was amazing and others seemed happy with their breakfast rolls. Great value for money aswell. Would recommend.

The signs guide you from the street entrance around the corridors to the cafe, seating split into several rooms. The kitchen is open to view. The variety of lunch items is large enough, with some unusual dishes and with paninis / toasted sandwiches completely configurable to your taste. Most dishes are vegetarian. The cakes look enticing, several different types available. We had lentil soup with home made bread roll, a warm panini with chosen contents, a raspberry and white chocolate muffin (so no calorie counting that day), a courgette bake with potato and green salad, and fresh filter coffee. Everything tasted splendid. Everything was fresh. The waitress was the resident artist, so we had an interesting conversation about her areas of artistic interest. As others have noted, very welcoming and friendly.

Speldiburn café is in the old school, closed due to lack of pupils is now a well used community facility. Bressay is only a short ferry ride from Lerwick, interesting to cycle around or to pass through on the way to Noss, a must for birdwatchers.

Lovely home-cooked food, interesting exhibition, srudiios and charity shop. Service was slow but this was one of the first 'open' days and this was a busy time. Amy's exhibition of technical, detailed drawings of looms and other equipment was beautifully presented and skilfully rendered.

Lovely cafe in the old school building with workshops and a nearly new shop too. Service is really good, well priced and good quality food. Its not open every day but worth a visit if you are on Bressay or Noss. Turn left after the post office if coming from the ferry and its 100 yards on the left

This was a great little find on Bressay as we toured around. Firstly it is a closed down school which is sad for the island but life has been brought back as a community based endeavour which includes the cafe. The local guys are happy to please with great coffee and tea with excellent quiches and cakes. The school is very much as it was left including the science display and I am pleased that this left as you get the feeling of what It was like and could almost hear the youngsters in class and running around the playground when it was in it's heyday. If you are on Bressay look it up an stop for for a break as it is worth it.

We had driven around the north of the island and stumbled across this little gem. We had delicious sandwiches and totally sinful cakes. The tearoom is lovely, warm and homely and the staff are so friendly.

The absolute best place for breakfast in Shetland. The food and drinks are delicious, and beyond that, the people have hearts of gold. I stopped in one morning before a tour, wanting to get a Diet Coke and the credit card machine wasn’t working. Christiane gave me the Coke anyways and said don’t worry about it. Me! A complete stranger. And when we went back for another breakfast (and I was able to repay her), I bought a bunch of scones for our travels the next day. As luck would have it I lost them somewhere during that day. I went back to Pete’s to ask if I had left them there. No joy. After re-walking the entire town I gave up and came back to buy a sandwich for the next days travels. When Christiane give me my bag she said I’m out of the kind of scones you bought this morning, but I put in another one with jam and cream to make up for it. They are so kind.

When you first realise that the building is actually a shop you are delighted to have found somewhere to buy food or in fact almost anything else you can think of. The bakery section is particularly welcome for hungry explorers. It’s a shame they don’t still have the DIY cafe.

Well appointed restaurant with fantastic views. We had a lunch and a dinner there. For dinner, venison, duck and pavlova all delicious. Cranachan ice cream very tasty but not what we would expect cranachan to be. Service perfectly reasonable. All very good, but not 5* excellent. Would go again.
