Soup's On and the cake lady in Glasgow City

Had not been in a while //Went in on impulse glad I did // Ordered Tuscan soup +fruit tea loaf + a couple of cortados everything was 'magic' plus interesting chat with a couple of customers. Moral tip for 2025 act on impulse worked for me today.

My wife and I have just moved upstairs from this cafe and it's instantly become our weekend treat. Early morning walks with a screaming baby are made much more palatable knowing that we're going to be rewarded with literally the best toasted sandwiches I've ever tasted. The best bit is the bread. I don't know how they manage to toast it but somehow keep it from being overly crunchy. And that's before we get to the actual ingredients and portion sizes - both amazing. I'm going to stop going on about their sandwiches now as I feel a bit like Ross Geller when he's explaining why Monica's Thanksgiving leftover sandwich is so good. Rest assured though that, much like Ross, I too would be signed off from work with anger issues if anyone dared try and eat the sandwich these folks have made me. If you're in the area or even just passing by I would 100% recommend.

We had never been to this wee gem of a place until our friends took us here for dinner. We absolutely loved it! Everything we ate was delicious and the service so personal. Look forward to returning

I'm torn about adding my 5 star review to this place... because honestly this feels like the southside / cathcart's best kept secret and if we tell everyone about it we'll have to share this magical little haven of great food and service that will mean you leave with a full belly, a warm fuzzy feeling and a smile every time you visit. Without fail owners Pete & Anne always create the most amazing weekly menus of rotating soups, stews, toasties and of course the cakes so you can come bk time and time again and it's never the same- a word of warning tho come hungry if you want to make it to cake... But if you do come...then shhh... don't tell everyone because we want to keep this place to ourselves and ensure we can always get a table or a takeaway of our favourites ;)

Supporting small family owned business should be mandatory for all diners. The end. p.s. but what if they’re also really good? Like proper nosh? And they care? 6 stars 🌟

Been several times now and the food and atmosphere are consistently wonderful. The portions are massive and very tasty, well worth every penny. Love to drop in as the hosts are so friendly and welcoming, looking forward to another visit soon!

Never had a bad meal here. Everything is amazing. Family goes out of their way to make you feel welcome, like an extension of their home both in cooking and atmosphere. So glad it's on our doorstep and will be back very soon. You're doing fantastic, keep knocking out those amazing sarnies!!

Absolutely love this place. You’ll not get a better lunch in Cathcart and I recon you’d struggle to get a better lunch in Glasgow. Proper hearty grub in portions you wouldn’t believe and the owners are two of the nicest, most hard working people you could ever hope to meet. Cannot recommend highly enough

Best soup and sandwich in Glasgow! Came in for lunch with my mum and the food was hearty and delicious with a lovely cosy atmosphere. Will definitely be back.

We were just walking in the area and decided to try it because we saw the menu from outside that had pretty good prices. Well the menu they gave us inside had prices 3-4 pounds higher for all the food, but I thought maybe they offered bigger portions in the afternoon compared to the morning. Not the case … I got the Christmas sandwich that barely had any pulled beef. So I paid almost 11 pounds for a sandwich of potatoes, cheese and a bit of beef.

Found this wee place last week when going to the football and they were closing up but still served me a coffee that I.was needing and it was a great tasting coffee.Today again I was going to the game and popped in for another coffee and a soup , the place was busy only 1 table left with a mixture of you and old enjoying the wares. I tried the soup this time Leek, Lentil & Chilli and have to say it was a delicious and piping hot . I will definitely be back of we are playing again at Hampden. If I had one complaint I'd love the coffee to be a bigger size but that's me being over critical . In short a great wee place with great tasty food .

Such a brilliant lunch spot, each time we’ve been the food has been amazing, always difficult to choose what to have as everything on the menu sounds delicious. The owners are friendly, the food is hearty and homemade. So lucky to have this on our doorstep!

Lovely local cafe. Everything is homemade, fresh and absolutely delicious. The sandwiches are simply to die for and the cakes so yummy! Their evening events are so cozy and we are so happy to have them in the neighbourhood. Lovely people too which makes all the difference. Only wish I could eat there every day!

I first visited Soups On years ago and have been hooked on their cakes ever since. So much so, that this last June my partner surprised me with a birthday cake made here, and it was 10/10 everything I could have asked for.

First visit with my daughter and hubbie. Delicious soup and sandwich. My husband had the mac and bolognese, my daughter loved her soup and sandwich also. Staff lovely and friendly and catered for whatever we asked for. Definitely worth a visit. Thanks for a lovely lunch.

Just get the stew, you’ll thank me. Changes regularly, always amazing

Great place, the food was delicious. It's fairly small but we still managed to get a seat at lunchtime. Christmas options on that day were great, as was the soup.

A wee gem of a place that I highly recommend. Have been at least 4 times in the last 6 months and we’ve been delighted every time. The menu is small and varied with a great range and regular changes to keep us coming back for more. Go for the pasta filled toasties, stay for the delicious cakes and enjoy the always welcoming service!

What a lovely little place . Have been following on fb for a while and finally had the chance to visit today , soup was delicious, as was the Moroccan stew . Owners are so friendly and even though we arrived near to closing were happy to accommodate us . We will definitely be returning for future visits . xx

My wife and I love coming to Soup's On, though it's a bit of a trek for us. Lovely little space, with gentle (and excellent choice in) music, incredibly good food, and wonderful people running it. The CBLT is absolutely worth trying if you haven't yet, but to be honest everything is a winner. Portion sizes are pretty hefty though, so come on a completely empty stomach!!

The food, cakes and coffee are amazing! And the staff. I still dream about your bacon and Brie bagels 🤣

Fantastic food from stews to sandwiches and scones to gateaux! A friendly team and great vibe make it a firm favourite! The gluten free and veggie options are a revelation. Check this place out just wish I lived closer.

Wow! I don’t think I’ve had a tastier sandwich. Jammed full of delicious filling with lovely salad and coleslaw on the side. I was really too full for cake but with such a yummy selection, I couldn’t resist! No regrets as the iced gingerbread was amazing. I’ll definitely be back, this place is a little gem and a must visit!

This place deserves you stopping by, the sandwiches are absolutely delicious, full of great flavour and lots of ingredients, it will leave you very satisfied and full! I had a very nice latte aw well and it was the perfect temperature. They accommodated my request off the menu for my kids and her banana and blueberries muffin was super soft and flavoursome!

Great place, always friendly. Homemade cakes and stews are fresh and tasty. Need to make a point to come and eat here more often. Only downside isn't dog friendly, more so for space and not the dislike of dogs.

The afternoon tea was amazing. Lots of food so we took some of the cakes home. Would definitely go again and recommend to others.

Couldn't fault a thing. Mexican veggie baguette was incredibly tasty as was the crustless quiche, everything tasted homeade and fresh. The cakes were also to die for! Highly recommend.

Lovely lunch with my daughter in law and granddaughter. Felt welcome the minute we walked in the door and it just got better from there. Our food was amazing and beautifully presented and the tea and cake was a perfect end to lunch. Will definitely return.

Great little cafe - you can reserve a table by messaging on Facebook, they always have a gluten free and a vegan option. Owners are such genuinely lovely people and the food is fantastic. Lovely spot to catch up with friends or family. If you aren't looking to sit in they also do takeaway. Highly recommend a visit.

Name says it all. If you like soup, they are on it. If you like cake they are on it. If you like soup and/or cake it'd be silly not to stop by. The stuff inbetween the soup & cake is also wonderful.

Me and my partner Aileen are big fans of Soups on and the cake lady. We love the soups, sandwiches and cakes on offer. They're always so consistent in regards to quality, you can tell that they really love their job. Highly recommended guys.

We discovered this gem of a place in Cathcart not long ago, although it's evidently been there for years. We've returned several times with extended family. The coffee, fresh soups and unique cakes never disappoint, and on every visit there's been something new and experimental (in a good way!) on the ever-changing lunch menu for us veggies. The icing on the cake (see what I did there) is that it's really well run by a lovely hard working couple. Book ahead - it's a small place.

The menus are always exciting. Never anything boring or bland. There is something to suit all tastes and dietary requirements. Sandwiches, stews and cakes are sinfully good. A lovely place to eat run by a lovely young couple.

I had food here the other day with my boyfriend and I’m writing this review now, since I still cannot forget how good the food was! We ordered panini and a mandarin coconut cake, and trust me - it was the best panini and mandarin cake in my life! I even thought of the cake before I fell asleep. I’m so glad I found this place. Service was lovely as well. The only demerit of this place is it always smells too good whenever I pass by here, which is interrupting 😋

Consistently delicious grub! The eponymous Cake Lady makes a cracking array of tasty treats (never had a better brownie) and the soups are great.

Food and service fantastic - will go back. If they spent a tiny amount on some decor/furnishings, this place would be fully booked.

Have had many takeaways from this little gem of a place. Soups are always delicious, toasties are amazing and sizeable and although I've never tried their baking, it looks great! Very reasonably priced. Just beware, the soup runs out pretty quickly and it's easy to see why!

Love it here, the food is always amazing and the owners so friendly. Only problem with this place is it's not big enough, on more than one occasion there have been no tables available when we have gone in but that just shows how great the place is and they do take away too.
