Out of this world. The bar should be called 'Something Else' because the food is. It was wonderful, the best meal we ste in Dunfermline by a mile. The Balmoral chicken was sensational and the steak pie was equally excellent. Secluded, cosy, delicious food, friendly staff. Perfection.

Stopped in for a bar lunch while out shopping. Got seated no problem, and menus brought over. Drinks order done, tea and diluted orange. Food arrived 10 mins later, steak pie, chips and veg. Was really good and both plates cleaned up. No desserts this time. only downside was it was cold inside and kept my coat on while eating but it wont stop me from going back as everything else was good.

Very nice wee pub to have a meal in Dunfermline. We had our lunch in the bar downstairs. There are tables available upstairs too. It's a small cosy bar but big enough not to feel crowded whilst eating. The food that was served to us was exceptional. One of the best bar lunches we have had in a while couldn't fault any of it, the steak pie (stew with a pastry on top) tasted great, with really nice chunks of lean meat, no fat or gristle. The server was polite, prompt, and well presented. Customer toilets are upstairs.

Excellent food. Had the battered fish and chips and the spicy chicken sandwich and both were delightful. Prices are reasonable.

Very quiet and little or no atmosphere. Atmosphere may be better at weekends when the pub is busier.

Stopped in here for a drink on Sunday morning. The bar lass was nice but seemed distracted or stressed maybe. Nice atmosphere, most folk having breakfast. Will be back 😄

Very disgusted with a recent visit here! Used to be one of our favourite places to eat but that was before it closed down in 2020. If you're looking for a friendly/welcoming pub DO NOT GO HERE! We felt like we were invading a "regulars" pub space. Will never be back. Waited 50mins on cold starters! Slow/Poor service. Rude staff. Unprofessional. Weren't told upon arrival there would be a lengthy wait. Never once acknowledged us during the 50min wait, no apology nothing. When we questioned, their response was "not much we can do when it's so busy" 😳 Really?? How about being courteous to customers, keep them informed of progress etc to try make them feel welcome! Digital receipt showed our juice orders at 1.50pm & by 3.05pm our mains were still not on our table and we were expected to pay for them when we had to leave for another appointment. In a correct manner we refused. Their answer was to phone the police!!! In a correct manner again we accepted that decision. After the staff member leaving our company for 5mins (we believe her to be a "manager" level) she returned with her tail between her legs, issued a new digital receipt minus the charge of main courses & told us "we were not welcome back in the pub" (Customer Service right there for you) No recommendations for this place what so ever & I have never in my life posted anything so negative like this.

I don't get to Dunfermline often but this was always my go to for lunch. Wish I hadn't bothered. We arrived at 13.46 and greeted quickly and seated with drinks order taken. All good. We had our meal order taken and ordered starters and mains. The manager was serving us. Fair enough the pub was busy for meals. We never once were advised that there would be a delay/lengthy waiting time on meals. After a good 25 minutes or more. Due to giving the benefit of how busy it was I asked if the starter were coming. I was told 'we are busy'. No apology. After another good while the starters arrived (45 minutes in total) one portion of bruschetta and haggis balls arrived. The young girl waitress apologised to my friend as I was just returning to the table so did not hear this. When the starters were finished the manager took our plates aways and asked if all was OK. My friend said yes but not worth the 45 minute wait. Yet again the reply 'nothing we can do, we are busy'. We waited another 5 minutes as we had ordered baguettes. I asked to cancel these as time was against us as I had an appointment. This was now just after 3pm. The manager said yes but I would have to pay for the mains. I declined paying it. In a calm and polite manner more than what we had received the whole time of being there. She said no I would have to as I ordered it and it would be made. I explained to her that I would not pay for something we had not received and the waiting time. Also explaining I worked in the hospitality trade for many years and common courtesy is to either advise on entry that there would be a delay in meals or even coming to the customer within the time waited that there was a delay. Yet again told 'busy' The manager never apologised once and told me that if I didn't pay she would call the police. I agreed for her to call them. She left the bar for 5 minutes coming back not saying a word to us and gave us a new bill without the mains on it and told we were not welcome back. I have to say in all my years working in this trade and also as a customer have I ever treated or been treated this way. I am pretty soft hearted and don't like to complain. The manager told me I was rude constantly when I was disputing the bill. You could tell she had regular customers or people she knew due to her manner towards them. Might I add these tables all had starters and main courses while we waited for our starters. Don't go there unless you want to wait a long time and pay for this service and the manners of Basil Fawlty.

Came in for a pint..barman more interested in his mobile phone and mobile phone girlfriend.. . Any questions about pints or spirits was like pulling teeth.. as if I'm interrupting his time! Felt like I was a pain in his space. . If you you want a welcome pub avoid this place.. no comment on food ..

What a lovely lunch we had , absolutely delicious, will defo be back , also liked that the music wasn't blasting and u could still talk will defo tell people to go and will defo be back 😊 😉

Stopped in here for lunch on an overnight trip to Dunfermline. It's small but perfect. Service was excellent & the food delicious. All freshly cooked to order, there wasn't a plate brought out that didn't look delicious. Family friendly & a lovely atmosphere.

Love this wee gem of a place. The steak pie is to die for. All fresh ingredients from the local butcher and fishmonger. Staff are really lovely and friendly too. Can't keep away from the place. Highly recommend it.

Went in for lunch today with family, staff very quick to attend to us for drinks and then taking our order. I ordered the vegetable linguine (made vegan as requested) however they didn't have any linguine so asked me if penne pasta was fine which it was. Food arrived and it all look great and tasted really lovely. My dad had to wait a little longer in his steak pie as the computer hadn't put it through to the kitchen but after a 5 min wait they served him and told him straight away they would take it off the bill for the inconvenience. We weren't moaning or going to complain so the fact they said that as soon as they served him showed really excellent customer service! Some of the group ordered desserts but as there were no options for me (being vegan and all) they called down to their sister pub The old Inn and got a member of staff to bring up a chunk of vegan brownie for me and apologised for not having anything for me. I was absolutely taken aback by this extremely kind gesture on their part, they didn't need to do that and to top it off they didn't even charge me for it! An amazing service from all the staff, going that extra mile for us really did make it a really great experience and we will definitely be back! Thank you all!

One of my favourite local pubs. They host brilliant open mic nights and live music nights. The staff are the best and the food is absolutely top notch. Your standard pub grub with extras and specials. They host a quiz night once a month too and have a DJ in on a Saturday nights. I really can’t say enough good things about this pub, love it! Always full of friendly faces any time of day or night.

Last week I visited and had the steak pie. It was the best I’d had in a very long time . I didn’t eat it all and the owner said next time you could ask for a half portion . Today I visited and had a half portion (owner not in ) and got 5 bits of meat and no gravy . I asked the waitress to check if that was a half portion and chef said yes ! Also at the end mentioned it was barely warm , meat dry and no gravy and the chef’s response was I should have asked for gravy ! That’s a new one on me ! So disappointing after last a week amazing food and apparently was the same chef !

We popped in for breakfast with another couple after not visiting S E for many years. We were quickly shown to a table, after being prompted to sanitise our hands. We were then asked to complete a form for track and trace. The Breakfast menu was varied and the other 3 in our party opted for the Scottish Breakfast and I opted for the French Toast with syrup and added streaky bacon. The meal arrived quickly and was beautifully presented, mine having more than I expected with French Toast, Syrup, Bacon, Strawberries, Blueberries and dusted with icing sugar. We were very impressed with not only the calibre of our breakfast but also with the attentiveness of the young lady who seated us and kept coming back to ask if there was anything else we needed. Well done S E we will be back 👌

Popped in for a drink with wife and friends to end the night. Wow! Great atmosphere inside whilst still adhering to Covid restrictions. Really well looked after by the attentive and friendly staff. Will be sure to visit again on next visit to Dunfermline.

Decided to try out their new breakfast menu now this lovely wee pub has reopened. Friendly staff and reasonable prices for the food. The food was freshly cooked to order and was lovely, however a bit of feedback from us. Put the toast on the side of the plate, instead of under the food, and more butter/margarine with the plate. I would heartily recommend folk to pop in and try out the food. We will be back to try out their lunch menu in the future.

Visited this bar while on holiday and I can honestly say that the food is outstanding and the service was first class nothing was too much for the staff, after our meal we ashed about the the afternoon tea for 2 with a bottle of prosecco and if it would be possible to do it as a takeaway and that said that would not be a problem and and all don't in 10 mins. Thanks for making us welcome.

I can't believe it was so quiet when we went in. A couple of families and us. The whole place is spotless and well presented and the food was cooked from scratch ( you can peek in the kitchen upstairs). We ordered chicken strips and a Portobello mushroom & Goats cheese burger. Wow wow wow - the chicken strips were huge..... really huge but so tasty. The burger was lovely with a large piece of goats cheese. The lady behind the bar was lovely and friendly. We will definitely be back.

Such a good wee cosy bar, food amazing and such large portions, my husband doesnt eat a lot and left his, bar staff asked if anything wrong, told her he is not a big eater, she said we could have ordered half portions, and tried to give us some money back, lovey bar staff, my steak pie was to die for, deffo coming back, will travel from glasgow for my delish steak pie, thank you chef and thank you bar staff, loved my wee day out and good food x

4 of us went here today for a birthday lunch and its the best thing we have done in a long time The staff was great, the food was amazing, service was spot on, food piping hot. I can be really fussy when it comes to my food, but i cant fault the food in Somewhere else Looking forward to our next visit, it really topped our day off, and altho i have said it was lunch we went for it was just about 4ish in the afternoon. We had a selection of dishes, 2 of us had steak pie 1 with potatoes and the other with chips and veg, another had scampi and chips and the other a salad with garlic bread and chips, well worth the money , this bar also cooks for vegetarians and also have a gluten free option, Oh,, the apple crumble and custard is to die for.. Well done to Martin the chef that was on today the 29/03/18 and the other staff that was so friendly

This used to be my favourite place in the town. Been a regular as I love the fish. My daughter had all day breakfast. There's a new chef standard of food not the same. Found the upstairs lounge cold. Waitress always nice. Very disappointed.

These are always great places to visit and I know from experience that sometimes it doesn't work out so well, but you have to try. Good menu that seems to be developing according to the chef. I had a wonderful pasta dish that was a special and is going to be added to the menu. I would recommend this to anyone and I will be back. You have to look for it so make sure to get the address. Great little place and wonderful service.

Cosy wee pub that does good grub

Took the family for a late lunch expecting to see what I rememember 20 years ago. It still has the feeling that later at night it will be rocking but in the afternoon the Atmosphere is perfect to enjoy great food and nice staff. We all enjoyed what we had from an extensive menu served quick and no fuss. The decor is ok and clean but more suited to night clientele. I will go back and try the Sunday Roast and kids eat free.

Nice little pub. Ok selection of beers & spirits. Prices are reasonable. Good atmosphere when there's been a DJ on before.

Stopped here for lunch during a shopping trip in dunfermline as have been before a while ago and remembered it had been pretty good. Quite busy as it was a sat afternoon but still got a seat in the smallish downstairs area. Menu is pretty basic nothing fancy but overall had the usual stuff like steak pie and burgers etc on it. Steak pie sounded nice but I saw another customer get it before we ordered and it had that puff pastry lid on it that looks impressive but when you cut into it or bite into it it dissolves into a pile of tasteless messy crumbs so I quickly steered myself away from ordering that. (I always feel it's not proper steak pie unless it has the white juicy layer between the pastry and stew). I settled for the somewhere else classic burger with lattice fries and salad and my partner had the macaroni cheese. He was offered to choose either garlic bread or lattice fries or chips with his macaroni at no extra cost which was good as some places insist if you want chips you need to order as a side. My partner was slightly disappointed that the Tv on up in the lounge/ bar was showing freeview Tv ( four in a bed) on mute as they didn't have sky as he wanted to keep track of the football results ( well it was a bar on a sat afternoon I guess) but I was quite happy with the background jukebox music. Our meals were delivered in a timely manner and his macaroni looked nice and hot with plenty cheese and my burger looked very nice too. He enjoyed his macaroni and lattice fries but I was pretty disappointed overall with my burger as despite the menu stating it was served with a brioche bun I got a seeded burger bun instead which I'm not a fan of really and although the burger was obviously home made it was pretty tasteless and had no gherkin on the roll either. Also paid an extra pound to have cheese added to the burger which was pretty sparse too considering the extra charge for it. Side salad was just coloured lettuce leaves with half a cherry tomato and a drizzle of dressing too. Best bit of my meal was the lattice fries that probably were the only reason the overall experience wasn't rated lower tbh but I have mr McCain to thank for that I guess as we saw the waitress bring huge bags of them from a cellar area beside the bar to take to the kitchen while we were waiting on our meals lol. Total cost was just under £23 which wasn't really worth but when u pay prior to receiving the meal there's not much you can do about it but staff were pleasant enough. Sorry but I'll be going somewhere else!

Had a lovely lunch in here with my friend. I had the cheese and bacon burger and my friend had the steak and onion baguette. Both were superb tasting and well presented. All freshly made on the premises. Very impressed. Will be back.

steak pie is excellent, hamburger was excellent too, lattice fries are to die for.We have eaten here several times after trying other places in Dunfermline & I must say that Somewhere Else is our favourite place to go. The staff are always friendly & go out of their way make sure that everything is ok, would highly recommend Somewhere Else for a good pub lunch & they also have a good selection of food on the menu

Have always enjoyed Somewhere Else as a pub but very rarely eaten in it.Having eaten in it this weekend I can safely say I'll never do it again.The menu is standard pub fare and fairly reasonably priced. However the standard my partner and i experienced was horrendous.Not sure how it's possible to get a simple order of Haddock and chips, and steak baguette as chips so badly wrong but they did.On the baguette there was barely any meat and what was there was lukewarm and chewy. The fish was reminiscent of school dinners. Hard and grey, and the chips were rotten. It's a pet hate of mine when restaurants cook chips with skin (if I wanted that I'd ask for wedges !!) please just stick to chips and actually double cook them like you claim to - there was no way these were.Special mention has to also go to the toilets. Filthy would be an understatement.There are lots of good eateries in Dunfermline. Sadly, this isn't one of them

My partner and I decided we would look for somewhere different to go for a change and the menu sounded delicious! When we got inside the bar was well presented, very clean and the staff seemed very friendly. Our starters arrived and that is where everything started to go down hill, "fresh food" - mine still seemed frozen! The mains then followed the the macaroni cheese was almost inedible - it was a thick layer of oil and I could taste nothing bar it. I tried to get a staff member's attention but she was too busy dropping cutlery all over the floor and talking to other people. So we decided to leave. My partner went to the bathroom before leaving and complained how filthy and unclean the bathroom was - really disgusting, especially considering the amount of kids that come in! Certainly would never go back. We really should have went somewhere else.

Stopped in for lunch , food was good , pub favourites. reasonably priced. Service OK. Place was freezing had to sit with our coats on. Asked the barmaid to put the heating on but she said she didn't know how. Maybe get a electric heater?

When in Dunfermline you must try the 'Somewhere Else' pub. It is a very pleasant little pub with a number of friendly regulars and staff alike. My DIL and I lunched here today. My steak pie was really good-lots of tender beef in a thin but tasty gravy, topped with an oval of puffy puff pastry. Veg were boring but acceptable, chips OK DIL ordered fresh beer battered haddock-it arrived as not-so fresh haddock in breadcrumbs and was a total disapointment. On the plus side, the staff were lovely and other patron really friendly so it ended up an OK experience but I wouldn't go back.
