My wife and I had a meal on the 30th of October 2024 - first time customers. I struggle to convince my wife (who is profoundly Coeliac) to ever go out for a meal because, through bad experiences, she just doesn't trust chefs. Socius was very highly recommended by some friends and so, for our anniversary, we decided to try the place out. Both meals were very nice indeed but, without any doubt, there was gluten lurking somewhere because my wife became very unwell very quickly - based on previous encounters like this, it will take her the best part of a week to fully recover - reinforcing her wariness of eating out. The expected level of diligence at this establishment leaves a lot to be desired. If you are in any way Gluten intolerant I would give this place a very wide berth.

We have been here many times and it just gets better, I’m not sure how they do it, but it is amazing! We have eaten in restaurants all over the world, but this restaurant is up there with all the best. The chefs and front of house staff are a credit to the hospitality industry, we sat at the kitchen table, and it was so lovely to watch the kitchen working so effortlessly and turning out first class fare to a busy restaurant on a Saturday night, if you haven’t been you need to go! Keep up the good work. Possibly one of the best restaurants in Norfolk.

Another stunning meal in this wonderful restaurant. Service is impeccable. The menu is divine. Particular shout out to the carrot and to the pork belly. And, as always, the bread is unbelievably good. Book ahead. Don’t miss out. It’s deserving of the 5 stars.

Utterly fabulous restaurant Can’t fault it! We had a fantastic lunch. Wow. Stumbled upon this restaurant tucked out of the way of the main hubbub of Burnham Market. Didn’t have a booking and when I walked in thought I would be out of luck as it was hugely busy but the lovely girl with a blonde ponytail was so helpful and set us up a table outside almost immediately: it was a gorgeous day and we were so happy to get a table! The food was all sharing style and we shared 6 dishes between the two of us. Every mouthful was a delight and the tastes exploded in your mouth. What a find; will definitely be back!!

As usual a wonderful mixture of flavours and textures complemented by first class service. The prices are starting to get eyewatering but if one is comparing what you get for your money with said prices it might just be considered as value for money. However why, why oh why does such a high class establishment insist on having raucous pop music blaring from loudspeakers to the extent that civilised conversation has to be almost at shouting level. We are told music produces atmosphere but when the music ceased between tracks there was not one jot of change in the buzz of the place. It is not a teeny boppers place Mr. & Mrs. Proprietor and you might just like to take a look at the demographics of your customers and in future pitch your type of music accordingly. The elderly Dowager sitting in a corner may well be a Sid Vicious fan but I wouldn't bank on it!!

Had two wonderful meals here whilst on holiday , The Sunday lunch and a midweek evening dinner . Both meals were fantastic , the roast beef dinner was amazing , fantastic beef and the vegetables choices were imaginative and beautifully cooked . Generous portions and we were offered extra veg and gravy if we wanted more . Our midweek dinner was also delicious , chil king prawns and various tapas dishes were all tasty and beautifully presented . We were so lucky to have Johnny as our main server as he was so helpful and friendly and guided us with some of our tapas choices . All the staff were friendly and helpful which adds to the atmosphere of the place which is lively and has a real buzz to it adding to the ambiance of the place . We went here for lunch, booking was extremely easy online & they sent a confirmation text the day before. What a wonderful atmosphere we walked in to, we was greeted by a friendly waitress as soon as we entered & taken to our comfortable table, drinks ordered, arrived quickly & the waitress kindly asked if we had been before & would we like an explanation on how it works. The vibe was so lovely. We ate some fantastic food, so many wonderful flavours, literally wanted to try everything on the menu. Service was excellent. Cutlery napkins plates etc changed as and when required. What a gem, I’ve walked past many times before whilst staying in Norfolk, wish I had been sooner! Can’t wait to come back. Well done guys.

Lovely place the food was very tasty and great size portions. Also great value for money. The service was 10/10 I would of given 5 stars but unfortunately I think training is needed in the bar area for measurements of drinks as I ordered a negroni cocktail but literally it was just under half a glass. (Tumbler) Then I ordered a large glass of wine and it was a normal glass. I did make this aware to the waitress and she rectified this.

Had such a lovely lunch at Socius, our waitresses were so warm and helpful. They immediately brought water for our dog and we were made very welcome. The food was unlike any we had elsewhere in the area, smaller, lighter plates and I had quite a few Asian inspired dishes (tuna tartare with wonton and prawn toast), but my gosh were they given a boost! I wasn't sure how exciting prawn toast would be, but it was given a fresh twist at Socius. The sticky prawns are a must and the tuna tartare is the best I've ever had (and I eat a lot of tuna tartare). The setting is lovely and it's nice to watch the kitchen team work. We also had the best cocktails of the trip here (generally we've struggled to find really great cocktails), they weren't particularly strong but the flavours were incredible! The midori spritz was a particular favourite.Perfect place to go for lunch or supper and the food wasn't too heavy, which was a welcome break after a week of overindulging.

A few small plates arrived time after time and you could tell each one had been made with the upmost care and attention - these chefs know how to cook good food! No idea what planet the last reviewer comes from but felt compelled to put the record straight. Socius is one of the most dog-friendly restaurants I've ever visited. Dogs are welcomed during the day throughout the restaurant (not just upstairs as previous review stated) treats and water bowls are on offer and there's even a special doggy roast available on Sundays. Can't believe it's possible to review a restaurant without mentioning the food, which at Socius is simply sublime. I've been many times and never seen the same menu twice, each time there's a new set of dishes to delight and amaze. If you've been, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. If you haven't, you owe it to yourself to pay it a vist: you won't be disappointed - with or without your canine companion.

Superb meal. The flavours from local fresh produce were exceptional, as was the innovative presentation. Many tapas restaurants just serve the dishes as and when the kitchen has them ready. Our third visit in 3 years (we're not local otherwise it would be a LOT more) and despite Covid upheaval etc. it is as good as ever. The dishes are still wonderfully inventive and a delight on the taste buds, the only issue was our eyes were bigger than our bellies! The negroni cocktail was bang-on. If we have one piece of constructive feedback (and we both realise the dishes come out as & when they are ready and we're fine with that) the chips would have been better served at the start and eaten throughout the meal, rather than at the end. Just a small point.

My fiancée and I visited Socius for lunch on Friday and we came away very impressed. The ‘tapas’ style menu is a great concept and makes for a very enjoyable experience as you can both share and try multiple things on the menu. It’s a casual atmosphere which is refreshing as sometimes restaurants with top class food can be a bit too formal. We sat on the ‘wine wall table’ which was quite quirky and we would recommend this - it’s slightly private as it’s away from the main restaurant, but the table is raised so you get a good view across the restaurant……and your surrounded by wine so what’s not to love! The restaurant itself is very easy to find, it’s right next to a big car park which also has a public toilet. Parking is super cheap, we paid like £3 for 4 ish hours and you can pay via a car parking app, super convenient. We’ll definitely be back again soon, 10/10 from us.

Clearly the person below doesn’t know a good restaurant if it slapped them in the face. Because Socius quite literally does that - every time we visit I go with the underlying fear that it might not be quite as good as it was the last time and my hugely high opinion might be somewhat tarnished, and every single time we visit (which is quite a lot) they exceed my expectations and completely wow me. I don’t know how they do it, but they really are restaurants running miracle workers. From the moment you enter the building you are greeted with a warm, happy buzz - Natalie the owner works the crowd and always takes time to come over and have a chat with every table, whilst seamlessly running the whole floor at the same time. Justyna the manager is a delight and in fact all of the service team are friendly, lovely and very good at what they do - you can tell this ship very much cares about their staff and provides a lot of training. The food, the food, what can I say about the food. Eating at Socius is like going on a incredible journey for 2 hours. Every dish brings excitement, awe and a flavour that you don’t think can get any better (until the next one comes out!) - it’s almost like the chefs are playing a game with you, teasing you and showing you their ridiculous skill each time a dish hits the table. Now without sounding like a pompous **** here, we eat out, at nice restaurants, a lot. We’ve been to Michelin starred restaurants all over the globe and believe me when I say Socius is the best restaurant me and my wife have ever visited, period. The whole experience from start to finish is always astounding. Huge pat on the back from us team, you’re doing an incredible job. And as for the review below, please do come back to me when you’ve found a restaurant that even scratch’s the surface of socius, I think you might be searching a very long time.....

Not a very prepossessing setting, in the car park, and not a “characterful” building , but the best food in Burnham Market and for miles around.Hard to place the cooking as it borrows from lots of styles but clever and imaginative use of local ingredients (though surprisingly not seafood). Delicately flavoured salad of blue cheese walnuts chicory and pear: heavyweight aged rump with Jerusalem artichoke (though the caramelised cauliflower didn’t bring much to the party).Good choice of wine by the glass and non alcoholic drinks. Friendly efficient service.

You don’t have to go without delicious Socius cooking during this second lockdown- Natalie and Dan are offering takeaways on Saturdays and Sundays. The menu is varied and changes each week, the food is as delicious as ever and it comes with reheating/ cooking instructions so serving it up is a doddle. Last night we had Duck breast with shiitake mushrooms, lamb belly with salsa, cauliflower with ras el hanout and celeriac with Binham blue. Myself and my husband visited here on Saturday 31st October. We were warmly greeted by a member of staff. The restaurant itself is ‘open plan’ very modern. It was lovely to be able to watch the chefs working on pass. Now when I think of tapas I think of cold Spanish meat, olives and bread. This restaurant brings a whole new meaning to it and it is wonderful. For starters we shared the most amazing fresh Socius focaccia bread and sticky prawns in chilli glaze. Our chosen main dishes were cauliflower, hake, beetroot, carrot dish and pork. The dishes come out as and when they are ready which was just perfect. There were many different flavours which we had not tasted together. We accompanied our meal with a bottle of Chablis. Oh and to finish as we did not have room for desert we had a White Russian cocktail. Yummy! I would like to add that when we arrived it had just been announced that England would be going into a second lockdown within days. At no time at all did any of the staff let this impact their level of service provided to us. The staff are a credit to the owners. It was evident who the owners of Socius are, however it was lovely to see how they interacted with their staff and worked just as hard as the staff. Thank you all for a wonderful evening.

Clearly catering to the "London Crowd". Most portions have less than a couple of pounds worth of ingredients and cost not less than £7, often much more. You need at least 3 dishes to equate to a "meal's worth". A mediocre Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is £28 and cocktails are definitely in the London price range. A great business model for fleecing the Chelsea on Sea crowd. Service was good and attentive but the atmosphere is rather plain - more like a barn than a restaurant.

Exceptional! As a group of six, we visited the restaurant for Sunday lunch. Everything we had was phenomenal. The care and time put into every dish was evident as was the passion of the chefs. We cannot wait to return.

Thanks to Giles Coren’s piece on Socius in The Times we battered through miles of wet Norfolk lanes to eat at this friendly relaxed restaurant and it was well worth the effort. The tapas style is very appealing so you get to taste a variety of the well cooked local sourced food. Norwich made gin followed by the most delicious tempura style prawns superbly prepared and presented. Try the hake with beetroot and horseradish - inspired. The cured salmon and pork loin were also 5 star. We drank the Malbec which was rounded and subtle. Cheerily excellent service and a reasonable bill. They even have the largest car park you could ever wish for. Beat a path to the door if you can get a table.

This is a wonderful restaurant. Stylishly designed interior with a menu to match. Creative, modern tapas style food of the highest quality, and save room for dessert. Can’t remember when I last enjoyed a meal as much. Quality of service matches the decor and food. Definitely a destination when in the area.

We visited today for lunch to celebrate our 32nd wedding anniversary. I had booked on the strength of previous reviews and we weren't disappointed. The food was excellent and a cut above standard restaurant fare for a very reasonable price. The service was friendly and attentive without being intrusive and the restaurant itself has a very cosy, relaxed atmosphere. We can't wait to return and try some more amazing flavours. Thank you to all concerned!

After reading a number of previous reviews there is nothing I can really add. The service, the food, the ambience, they have it all perfected to a ‘T’. A wonderful lunch. One that will stay with us for a long time.

Light and airy with an open kitchen means the dining experience is a pleasure for the modern diner. The staff are attentive, friendly and efficient. The best for last though is the food. Great small portions allow you to order lots of dishes and experiement. None disappoint. We had approx 8 dishes and I even ordered the prawns for dessert as the were soo good and sweet they made an amazing dessert for me.Loved all the courses and clearly the best place in Burnham Market. A must for all to visit / book.

A very enjoyable lunch with great food from an interesting inventive menu. Great, friendly and attentive service, lovely local vibe and interesting space. Well selected reasonably priced wine list. Dog friendly at lunch time. We wish we could have lingered longer and enjoyed our table next to the open kitchen.

Another Local establishment taking the pandemic seriously. It is very comforting to eat in a place that is so focused on creating sublime and delicious food, but to also know they have got your health and well being as a priority.Very subtle but efficient covid policy in place.

Came for lunch midweek, just the 2 of us, our very first since lockdown. Had high expectations given all the fab reviews, in particular from Giles Coran. Given that we are foodies and above average home cooks, we go out for something a little different that we would not cook at home, that extra je ne sais quoi! Socius did not disappoint.Welcoming, excellent attentive service.Reasonably priced wine list, menu also is sensibly priced which makes such a difference. Tap water was offered which came in carafe with slices of orange and lemon. We started with the 3 'drinking' snacks. - Focaccia with whipped butter - superb- Sticky king prawn - hooray, there were 4! so often we see x3, why? they were delicious.- Tuna tartare - deliciousI would come again just for double portions! We tried 3 plates:Butternut squash, fetta.... - fab though feel they were very mean on the squash puree especially since this was a main plateHake, Celeriac puree - wish we could cook hake like that at home, it was melt in the mouth superb. We asked our lovely waitress how chef cooked this, she happily knew enough to answer.Celeriac, crispy pickled Mushrooms - delicious though out of all the dishes I felt this one had so much umami that it filled me up and couldn't eat much... luckily my husband managed to finish the dish. I think I would have preferred if the mushrooms hadn't been sliced as I've seen on other photos.Socius House Rubbed Chips - had to try these given special in-house rub. Good but not amazing. They sensibly were served when the Hake dish arrived so we could all dip into the celeriac puree. I could easily give the chips a miss next time.... which of course there will be.... a next time.... and time after that...... we are lucky we are local, well 30 minutes drive... that's local for Norfolk!

The food here is amazing! Really cannot fault it, beautifully presented, seasoned to perfection, wine perfect temperature, just wish the cocktails packed a bit more punch. After looking at the main drinks menu as appose to the top of the food menu, the cocktails only have 25ml measures in them therefore tasted quite diluted. Highly recommend this place.

Truly faultless experience.Socius has got everything absolutely right - from the warm and attentive service to the modern interior and, of course, delicious food! We got a very good vibe as soon as we walked through the door. Star dishes were the sticky king prawns, tuna tartare, cauliflower and beef rump. Also, the best dessert we’ve ever had (and we’ve had a few!) - cherry bakewell cheesecake. Special thanks to our waitress Debbie, who made us feel at ease in this uncertain time! It’s hard to think of anywhere in Norfolk, let alone Burnham Market, that compares. We’d be stupid not to be back ASAP!

We ate here for dinner on a Saturday night as a group of four during a Norfolk golf trip. This was an excellent meal in all respects: the ambience is modern and bright, without being cold, and the service throughout was enthusiastic and efficient. The food is tapas style with a mixture of small and larger plates being brought out at regular intervals. Dishes that stood out were the tuna, beef and even a roasted cauliflower with pomegranate- something I never thought I’d say! Opening focaccia also excellent, and a good selection of desserts. Highly recommended.

There were just two of us for dinner at Socius, we had a selection of tapas which were all amazing; in fact we commented that we wished there were more of us so we could taste more of them.We particularly liked the Binham Blue and Chicken Parfait dishes, although all were excellent. We also had the Tuna tartare, Burrate and Beef Rump.Going back to this restaurant is probably the only reason I would visit Burnham Market again!

We had lunch with friends here to celebrate my birthday. There was a complimentary glass of fizz and chocolate treats too! The staff were first rate and the food delicious and plentiful. As we were there for lunch they allow dogs, so a plus for us with our elderly and very polite border terrier. The whole experience felt very special and we will be back.

We visited for lunch on 19/09/2020We had a warm welcome and found staff to be attentive. All our dishes were delicious. Our favourites were the Haddock Brandade and beef cheek. It wasn’t cheap at just under £100 for two (including bottle of wine and service) but we thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

Firstly both my partner and I absolutely stunk of fried food when we left, even the next day we were saying to each other how it had even made our bedroom smell. Also meaning I’d have to have my jacket dry cleaned. Not what you expect from a nice restaurant! The food was quite average, two good dishes the tuna tartare and burrata and tomatoes. Although the tomatoes were very over salted. Also the tuna was annoyingly served in a strange bowl meaning it was quite hard to serve to each other. The supposedly star dish the battered prawns with chilli sauce, we found to be over battered and the chilli sauce was far too sweet and also drizzled with a herby lemon sauce, it was like the chef couldn’t decide which sauce to use?! Service was pleasant and they were quick to offer more drinks etc. If you do visit, I’d advise asking for a table as far away from the door as possible, we weren’t even that close to it but every time it was opened we were hit with freezing cold air!

First time we have tried Socius, but would definitely go back again. My wife is vegetarian and I am not, so the idea of selecting a number of plates was great. The food quality was excellent, service was good, given the place was full. Only a couple of downsides, one was that some of the meat plates were for sharing which Excluded them, the other was that it is a bit noisy when full.

This was our first and hopefully not last visit to Socius. In Norfolk for the weekend, we read Giles Coren’s glowing review of the restaurant and had a superb meal. We ordered tuna tartare, smoked haddock, chicken liver parfait, Norfolk beetroot with feta and chips. All had great flavours and beautifully presented. Deserts were equally enjoyable. The Socius chocolate bar is rich and indulgent and the eclair apple blackberry and whites chocolate was one of the best deserts I’ve had for a long time. The service was excellent and the whole meal was great value for money.

Our first visit was a success and we were fortunate to be able to secure an table outside soon after parking. The choices were delicious and we enjoyed choosing a few plates of tapas. The drinks on offer were just right for an lunch time tipple too.Service was excellent, smiling, welcoming - just what you want. It was a popular terrace on the summer afternoon and we loved the casual ambiance with excellent food. We were bothered by some wasps and it would be good next time to see some attention given to dealing with these. Other than that we loved our visit and would return in an instant.

Would be a half decent pub if the landlord had manners & was polite. Never known such shocking customer service & disgusting manners. Avoid, use pubs within Downham Market.

After reading the reviews we have to say that we were very disappointed with our visit. We had the 3-course menu which was adequate but not at all exciting. Whilst each course was well cooked, the sauces and accompaniments lacked subtlety and flavours were not well balanced. Difficult to justify a Michelin star on this performance. Over the years we have used a number of Michelin restaurants but sadly this rates as the worst we have visited. It was highly priced and certainly not worth the money we were charged.
