We live in the neighbourhood and have been meaning to check out this place. It did NOT disappoint. I had the burger which was great, even though they only cook it through and don't take a temperature unfortunately. My wife had the tacos and they were top notch! I'm mexican and these were the closest thing Ive had to the ones I used to eat back when I lived in Tijuana. I know its not a mexican place but if you want great tacos make your way over here. The staff were great and had great recommendations too. Well done.

We went for an anniversary dinner at the Smokehouse in Chiswick and had a brilliant meal. Neither of us had been before but we wanted to try somewhere a bit different and off the main high road in Chiswick, and this was a great little find.

This is a pub with a more formal dining section and some less formal, cosy rooms for enjoying a few drinks. They do a great 2 for 1 on draft beers, between 5-7 pm!

We are very fussy customers, especially for a Sunday roast as my wife’s is so good. All four of us agreed that this is the best Sunday roast we have ever had, absolutely perfect.

Friendly atmosphere with good selection of ales. Came for lunch menu. Starter of ash & vodka cured salmon was minuscule, disappointing given the price. Ordered a second starter of stuffed brisket nuggets, which I had to share as it was the size of a main dish. This was delicious. Has dry-aged shorthorn beef burger with Korean pulled pork...which was basically char ole in a bun with over-fried fries. Revolting. Deconstructed cheesecake was nice. I’ll stick to the bar if I visit again.

I was stranded a few years ago whilst on a business trip in an empty, off-season golf resort hotel outside of Nanjing in mainland China where I was served a burger (I know, I shouldn't have ordered the burger...) which didn't even contain a burger, only cold bacon, lettuce, tomato and ketchup in a still partially frozen bun. I've always told people this was the worst burger I've ever had, until now. The Smokehouse have stolen that crown. The burger I was served here was literally inedible. Simple because it was SO salty. Service was also rude. This used to be such a great pub when it was The Hole In The Wall. I don't know anyone local who goes here anymore. I was obviously naive to revisit again myself. Gave them another go as I was hoping previous bad experiences had been teething problems. But no. Shockingly bad food. Will never return.

Soooooo, first the positives: the quality of the food is still pretty good. Predictably, you'll be going for the meat dishes unless you're quite silly. Moving on...My impression is that this place has changed hands, or at least management recently, because when my wife and I first visited (shortly after it opened) it was a very impressive establishment indeed. The vibe was quite modern French, the food was exceptional, the service impeccable. It also had a nicely adult atmosphere which brings us to the first problem with the Smokehouse as is - kids. The Smokehouse advertises its policy on its website as welcoming well behaved children only until seven, so I was surprised to arrive at eight o'clock to find plenty of children in situ.I say, in situ but that's misleading because it implies they were stationery. They were not. They hurtled around both garden area and inside restaurant with great abandon as their parents looked on with pride / disinterest. Curiously this continued even after the adult patrons were asked to leave the garden area out of 'concern for noise re the neighbours.' Clearly a child-pack of rampaging screeching youngsters doesn't count as noise. The last remnants of the Lord of the Flies Recreation Society finally left the garden around half ten.Poor neighbours.Poor us because we essentially had dinner in a children's crèche.I raised this with the manager who was perfectly polite but seemed baffled that anyone would not want to eat an expensive meal with children hurtling back and forth past them. I informed him that there was now an odd subsect of adults who actually want to eat their food in relative peace when they go out for an expensive meal. He seemed baffled by that too but duly apologised and said that he would definitely update the website so that customers like myself and my party were not misled. That was two months ago and they still haven't which makes me think they don't really care.Second problem is service. Staff were very nice but fairly inept. During the course of one meal we had - waiter has ask if a particular dish is 'ours' - food arrives at different times for different diners - bottle of wine is ordered and utterly forgotten about by waiter - item which we did not receive is included in final bill.In fairness, the manager clearly realised his restaurant was delivering poorly and gave us a free bottle of wine. Very decent, but it didn't paper over the fact that the staff were clearly not trained sufficiently. So all in all, if you want to drag your kids out to eat late at night and have to exert zero influence over them - kinda like a late-night adventure playground but with food - this is the place for you. If you want a pleasant adult dining experience, it is not.

This was a "Works Outing" dinner for 12, after a business meeting. We were all seated on one long table; I was at the far end, against the wall. The waitresses brought food and drink, but left them at the outer end, and made no attempt to distribute the food or drink along the table. So we had to ask for what remained to be passed down to us. Result: I didn't get either hors d;oeuvres, main course or wine until at least half way through the meal. And when it arrived, the plates/bottles were mostly empty. But not such a disappointment, as the food was barely edible: badly-made pork brawn; overcooked pulled smoked pork; roast potatoes [they at least were all right]; some sort of 'Eton Mess' pudding – from what I could see of what was left on the plate. The wine was Spanish, cheap, unbranded, but drinkable – when I finally got some. I have never had such a miserable restaurant meal. And I and my immediate colleagues were made to feel completely unwelcome.A V O I D ! ! !

I booked online a few days before with ease. The day before our reservation I received a missed call with no voicemail, called back to find it was the smokehouse confirming my reservation. Pros: The service was very good, wait staff very attentive and polite, issues were sorted very quickly, short wait for food and service, decor of the pub very pleasant, some of the food was tasty. Cons: Later in the evening it got very, very loud even in the restaurant section and was difficult for conversation over dinner. At first it came across as a family friendly pub as a couple with a baby were seated at the same time as us with a high chair - the baby was upset and crying at times which is to be expected and as a couple we ignored this as the parents certainly aren't to blame. Babies cry, that's normal! However I was shocked when a member of staff came over to speak with the mother. Soon after the father took the baby outside, the mother paid and the couple left. This whole scenario made me very uncomfortable. I ordered a carafe of Malbec to have with my meal, which was very good, however the wine glasses on the table were very small and looked like a brandy glass to me. The waitress seemed somewhat put out when I asked for a different glass. My partners starter of pork looked delicious and he confirmed it was very stay. However I had issues with my starter of ham hock terrine. I found a lot of gristle which was inedible, the sour dough toast was burnt and bitter which I felt I could look past until I found a piece of bone which cut my gum. At this point I complained and asked for the starter to be taken off of the bill, which it was without issue. I ordered the main of smoked beef short rib bourguignon. It was very tasty and you couldn't deny that the meat was definitely smoked! Perhaps the smoky flavour was a little too strong for my taste however the lemon mash cut through it nicely. We meant to order additional vegetables however my partner and I both forgot to - however on reflection I feel that both of our dishes, my main and his main of pork with mash, should have been accompanied with some vegetables which didn't need to be ordered separately. The lychee sorbet for dessert was very good and I would have again. Cost of meal: £75 for one starter, two mains, two pints of beer, a carafe of wine, a scoop of sorbet and a 12.5% service charge. All in all I was disappointed and felt for my parter who suggested we go here and was excited to try the food! The only reason I have given three stars is the level of service from the wait staff. I won't be returning again for food.

Probably a good place for steaks (see the extensive menu), less memorable for burgers or tacos. It's a bit in the middle of nowhere, pretty much a gastropub for locals. My meal: tacos were served lukewarm if not cold, you can definitely avoid them; before ordering the main, I asked the waiter to explain the difference between the burger + Korean pulled pork and the other burger and he had no idea. Having had pulled pork as starter, I ordered the standard burger. Pardon, average burger: something better than frozen pub food, certainly not up to a proper steakhouse standard.Bill personally pricey for the quality of the food, I won't go back...

Had seen recent reviews of the Smokehouse and thought maybe the service and quality had gone down since we had been last. Fortunately we were extremely pleasantly reassured that what we thought was an awesome place has remained so. Took our family of 6 and had the best and yummiest meal with excellent and attentive service. Nothing was too much trouble. We ate outside and ended our lovely lunch on the garden lounge sofas for dessert and coffee. Everybody was impressed (kids included with their food). Even the house wine was lovely (always a good sign). Highlights of the tasty and fragrant food we ordered were the pulled pork burger, fish dish and fish and pork tacos starters as well as the gooseberry fool). We have always had a good experience whether visiting as a group or for a romantic dinner and glad we did again. We will definitely be back more often as it's as nice in winter with the cosy interior as in summer to enjoy outside area.

With regret... I love this place as a pub/venue but the menu has never once got it right for my tastes. Either too rich (roast potatoes caremelized with maple syrup?) or two complicated (why does the BBQ sauce need to be Korean - why does the cucumber need to be burnt??). Sunday lunch turned up luke warm and already swimming in gravy and criminally stingy on the roasties. Had a burger there and it was so dry and overcooked I could have played hockey with it. Was in there another Saturday at 3pm and the steaks had run out - one party was there for a birthday specifically for the steaks...it's a steak place surely??! How do you run out steaks on a Saturday lunchtime??! Ran out of sirloin another time but offered up bavette for £22 per head... wtf??! Come on guys...a cool cut it may be but not at that price...I sincerely hate saying all this as I love the place, and the head barman is awesome...but whoever came up with the menu concept is IMHO missing a massive trick here and sad to say bums on seats don't lie...this place should be full to bursting five nights a week....it isn't.

We have been to the Smokehouse for dinner on several occasions over the past couple of years, but our meal last night was truly outstanding. Sadly the weather was dismal so, instead of sitting in the pretty garden, we ate indoors in the dining room but the delicious English sparkling rose set a very summery tone for the meal. The smoked salmon starter was excellent, as was my fillet steak, but the stand-out dish was the pea risotto with smoked mutton. Our kiwi relatives, who are more used to eating mutton than us Brits, thought it was particularly succulent and tasty - high praise indeed. This is a great local restaurant for supper or lunch, especially on a sunny day.

We ate here last night. We had a tasteless starter of tomato and goats cheese which was really bland. The service was welcoming and friendly and my ribeye steak was chewy and forgettable. My wife enjoyed her fish. We had two courses and two drinks and the bill came to just over £100. The food was too average to justify this. I was a little worried that we could just stroll in for dinner with no reservation on a Friday evening and the quality of the food confirmed why. I wouldn't return here.

Was left slightly disappointed by the dining experience however the response from Oliver the manager was fantastic and refreshing. Went to the Smokehouse when it first opened a couple of years ago and it was very promising so fancied checking it out again. It's a lovely venue full of character with a nice garden area that could have a little more wow factor, but is an absolute sanctuary on a Sunday away from inside which is packed full with kids and families! I love kids and a good family get together, just not in a pub when trying to have a chilled roast, but that's just me. The roast itself is good, even if the smoked chicken wasn't actually very smokey. Wasn't a fan of the buttery camarelised carrot, there could have been stuffing, but the yorkshire was spot on! Staff were really friendly and attentive. I'd go back again.

The sun shone, it was hot and the late June days are long. The garden was peaceful and pleasant. The first choice of rosé was unavailable, the suggested alternative taster was not served. The requested olives were not available. Stale-ish almonds were served instead. This did not augur well. Napkins were requested and then it seemed that the table was set. All options on the main menu were available, several cuts of beef were struck off on the separate menu. Portion sizes, for the prices, were miserly. Wizened, thin asparagus spears, six maybe seven, on a small plate for £8 were an affront to hospitality and customers' appetites. Other starter portions were clearly pared to the minimum in line with the accountant's instructions. This policy was further demonstrated by the ribeye, costing a few £ short of £40, which was 30 to 40% fat. The unsettled, well-meaning young manager was put out initially when this was pointed out to her - the fat neatly arranged on the plate - and she had no choice but to deduct the charge from the bill. The manager wanted our group to enjoy itself but this was beyond her control when somebody somewhere dictates that customers must pay beyond decent limits for miserly food, which is itself cooked to plainly acceptable standards. What a disappointing night.

Then it took 20 minutes to get drinks and 40 mins to order. When we asked what a particular cut of meat was, the waiter said 'I don't actually know- try it and see'. This was a £50 steak! Meat arrived raw even though we ordered medium and we were given 1cm of peppercorn sauce which was £1.50. Couldn't be bothered to complain to the incompetent staff and wasted £90 on a terrible meal. After my last review I was a little cautious to return to The Smokehouse but I was so happy that I did. The restaurant was back to its usual high standards, serving well cooked and delicious steaks and other dishes. I am a total carnivore and love nothing better than a juicy steak and a good glass or two of red wine. We snacked on some of the homemade biltong which was perfectly seasoned and moist, our starter of beef shin tacos were melt in the mouth, followed by quite possibly the largest porterhouse steak I've seen in a while which was cooked so perfectly. There is nothing worse than ordering a steak and it isn't cooked to your liking/expectations and lacking in flavour. This porterhouse steak was so flavoursome, tender and cooked medium rare which is how we like it. The side dishes were also delicious especially the chilli greens and treacle glazed carrots. Nicholas the chef did an outstanding job in cooking up a truly delicious meal for my boyfriend and I and Oliver the Manager was so attentive and informative and is clearly passionate about food and ensuring that the customers have the best possible experience whilst dining in the Smokehouse. After devouring the starters and porterhouse steak, we rather embarrassingly managed to find room for a pudding and continued drinking wine and eating cheese until rather late! All in all, so glad that I went back for another visit as I left feeling the same way I did on my first couple of visits and relieved that my third visit was a momentary blip. Looking forward to seeing Oliver, Nicholas and the team again for another amazing dining experience.

We ate here, and were rather shocked by the prices. It was £18 for a main course and over £5 for a pint of beer. When the food came it was fine, but nothing special. I would usually expect to pay around £12 for a main like this, and about £3.50 for a pint.We decided to leave after the main course, cutting our losses and moving on. However, when the bill came they had the audacity to slap on a recommended service charge of 12.5%. On seeing this on the bill I was outraged! The pub must already be getting quite a tip out of the prices they charge. I could not believe they expected more.So I took out the cash to pay for the food and drinks (not the service charge) and left this. This is one place I will not return to.

I decided to be fair and allow time for the restaurant manager to respond before writing this review. However, two weeks have passed, and I have yet to hear anything. This by far and large is the worst customer experience I've had at a restaurant in London. The whole thing was diabolical from start to finish. This was a Birthday meal organised by my fiancé, for 7 people, and reserved with the Smokehouse over the phone for 20:30 on a Thursday (arrived at restaurant 20:00)My Experience and Comments are as follows:- Restaurant had ran out of all Steaks except for two cuts of cote de boeuf. Our group decided to order to order one of these, then to be later told that it had gone to another table. We were left with smallest cut on the menu (3 slices of steak per person for 3 people/£95) - Restaurant runs a form of "scratch out when gone" steak menu that consistently changes as other customers order (and is therefore never up to date)- Restaurant ran out of Fries (Chips!)- When the mains came we ordered Red Wine, which then arrived after we had finished the steak- Jus (Sauce) arrived towards the end of the meal - 3 members of the party (who all had the same main) had upset stomachs the next day- Nonchalant attitude from Staff & duty ManagerWhen we complained we were told that the restaurant policy is to only order in limited amount of meat each day and that we should have read this on the website when we made the reservation. At no point was this explained either over the phone when we booked or when we arrived. This was an awful customer experience and the response from management was unacceptable. We were compensated with a free bottle of wine (£29) and a brownie for desert. Again not good enough. This Restaurant is based on providing steaks/meat, yet to only offer customers a limited choice, is not right. We were made to feel as this was our fault and ultimately it ruined the birthday. In future I hope the Owner(s) and Management sort their act out so we can return and have our faith restored.

This was a celebratory lunch for a friends engagement. Having dined at the restaurant before for supper and really enjoyed the beef, I decided to book again for Sunday lunch. The roasts offered for Sunday lunch were topside of beef, pork belly or lamb shoulder. What arrived was so insipid and fatty that 2 of our group had to send back the roast beef. The beef was not sliced but actually looked like strips of stir fry beef rather than a roast. The Yorkshire pudding whilst impressively large was overcooked and burnt in some areas. The waitress did take away the two roast beef meals and replace with 2 other roast beef meals, however, we were told that if we wanted the sliced (standard I would think) version of the roast beef then we should have ordered it but on the menu it gave 3 options beef, pork or lamb so not sure how we would have known that the beef roast we ordered was the cheap, fatty, off cuts of beef version. The restaurant and garden are very nice and we were lucky that it was a sunny day and were able to enjoy the garden and some rose wine which is pretty much the only pleasant thing about our meal on Sunday 2nd April. I have actually had better roast beef in a Weatherspoons. Such a shame really as it has tainted my view of the restaurant now.

We made an online booking for 2 pm on Sunday. We arrived and after a while someone noticed we were waiting, we were told that we had to wait 5 minutes for our table, which was fine. I'm not certain, but it appeared as if several people walked in after us and just sat at tables, without any apparent bookings or speaking to any of the staff. While waiting I asked what ales they had. There was no choice, as they had only one, but they had only just changed the barrel, and I would have to wait before it was ready to drink. I was told by the friendly bar tender that our table was still not available and would we mind if he sat us in the restaurant. There was no choice where my table would be from the online booking, so we were happy to just get any table. This raised my suspicion that the walk ins had just taken our table. My wife and I ordered the Sunday roasts, she the pork and I the beef. She was happy with her pork and said the meat was tasty and well cooked. I on the other hand not only had a tough roast beef, but a blunt knife to cut it with. The vegetables were OK, and the Yorkshire pudding not very flavoursome. For desert my wife ordered the chocolate brownie, which she thought was reasonable and I ordered the rhubarb Pavlova. The Pavlova was very good, but the rhubarb was flavourless, limp and hard to cut.Just to be fair to the restaurant, there was no charge for my drink which was finally delivered to me after we had started our meal.I think if it was just up to me, I would have only given this place 3 stars, but as my wife was happy with her lunch, I upgraded the overall rating to 4 stars. I'm afraid we won't be returning in a hurry.

We booked a large table for a family celebration, with my sister and brother in law that were visiting from Boston. We were all excited to visit, and had recounted to them the fantastic steak that we'd shared with my mum, when we'd taken her to the Smokehouse on a previous visit. When we arrived, we were seated quickly, which was great, but when the menu came, we were very surprised to see that there were only around 10 individual steaks left on the menu (no larger steaks to share were available at all). I have no problem understanding the concept of the restaurant, but to have such a shortage of product on a Saturday evening seems slightly ridiculous, especially when the restaurant is clearly fully booked. In addition to this, for a restaurant of this size, and with the concept of individual cuts of meat, the system just does not work. The available cuts are outlined on a paper menu, and are then scrubbed out with permanent marker when sold out. With several iterations of this paper on different tables and a shortage of stock, there was, as you might expect, an issue with accuracy. After ordering the one rib-eye on the menu, the waitress returned to the table after around 5 minutes to inform us that someone else had ordered the steak, so we couldn't have it. We then opted for a sirloin.. after about another 10 minutes, the waitress came back a second time to say that the second steak that we ordered had also been sold. My fiancé, irritated at the situation and the system went to have a quiet chat with the man who appeared to be in charge. The man informed us that the rib eye had been of such poor quality that they had had to remove it from the menu, and that the second mistake had been a problem with version control of the paper based menu system. We didn't feel like our complaint was addressed properly, even though there was a clear opportunity for the manager to apologise properly for the numerous mix ups.Its such a shame that the restaurant does not use the numerous chalkboards around the place to manage the stock of their steaks. This would help to avoid confusion, and ensure that all diners are seeing an accurate list of what's available. The food here is very good, but the experience we had on what was supposed to be a celebration has left us disappointed.

I feel guilty about not writing this 2nd review earlier but better late than never. After a rather disappointing and negative review a few months back I returned and it was much much better. Food excellent but most of all, the service was relaxed, friendly and attentive. Once again, it felt like a dependable local eatery. Well done. I'll be back.

Was so impressed by the Smokehouse. Went there for my birthday and had such a nice cosy atmosphere, such friendly staff and the food was amazing. The steaks are some of the best I've had in London. And the pulled pork tacos were delicious. It's a bit tucked away but I would really highly recommend a visit to the smokehouse.

Went on a Monday night in January expecting it to be quiet but there were a few big parties in and it was actually pretty busy. Despite this service was friendly and efficient. We tried a few different starters to share, my favourite being the steak tacos!! After this we opted for a rib-eye steak and sides. The steak was great quality and very well cooked (I'm very particular as well) and the garlic butter on the side was so tasty! I was pretty full after but did end up having the homemade cinnamon ice cream which was delicious and a great round off to our meal! Will be back again!

Classic example of what happens when you underestimate and undervalue service as part of the experience of eating out. I took my fiancee there for his birthday and it took us over half an hour to get served (and in addition others who had walked in after us were seen first). The food was pretty good when it arrived, but my main course was delivered 10-15 minutes after his, by which time he was over halfway through eating. The waitress appeared so overworked she was flustered and made me feel stressed just by watching her! It was not remotely the special evening I had hoped for, and not even an apology was offered when the bill arrived. I feel badly leaving this review as the staff in the kitchen were working hard, but I really hope management read it and take note. Please, please invest in more waiting staff and treat your customers with care otherwise they will not be back! This is not a cheap restaurant and Chiswick is full of better options. I will not be back.

Since "The Hole In The Wall" as it used to be known was taken over a couple of years ago, it's cuisine had improved immeasurably and the focus on rare breed meat smoked on the premises attracted a lot of steak lovers from the fairly well-heeled Chiswick area and beyond. Of course they have a wide range of meats and some nice fish dishes too, but my lunchtime favourite was the Dry-aged Dexter burger, with Korean pulled pork and fries which was succulent and tasty if a bit on the expensive side for a burger (£15.50). I suppose that this comes with fries at least as with other dishes, sides are extra and not cheap. However, last time I was there the quality was not so fine; the burger was just OK, smaller and had lost its zing. I could recommend the guinea fowl unless you're hungry as there's not a lot of it. There is a very nice wine list but price-wise, getting to the Michelin Star end of the price range for a really decent wine. One real gem though is a dessert; Mascarpone, caramelised banana, salted caramel & pumpkin seed crumble - superb at £6.50. Service is quite good, if a bit unattentive at times. This place is popular with young families during the day and early in the evening so if you're looking to have a quiet romantic dinner, I'd aim for post-9pm. All in all, the food's not bad - it has been better - and it's a bit pricey for what you get. A two-course lunch for two plus a glass of wine and a coffee will set you back more than 60 quid on average. There's a beer garden in the rear of the pub which allows for extra customers during fine weather.

We visited Smokehouse on New years Eve to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary. I have to say it was such a good shout - the food was incredible. The hens egg with truffle was worth the pricetag as the most expensive starter on the menu - such a pleasant surprise. I had the lobster thermidor as a super special spenny treat & so glad we splashed out - it was totes worth it. The other half was equally impressed with his Beef wellington. And the choc brownie we shared was heavenly. Lovely friendly staff & warm atmosphere. Love this place and the fact it's on our doorstep as a Chiswick local. We came as a group of 4 for Xmas dinner, the menu was set . so a starter, main and pudding. Particularly like the starters i.e., raw salmon etc. everyone helped themselves from meat platters or vegetable dishes. There was a lot on menu, all types of BBQ meats i.e. pork, chicken ,beef, lamb etc. a real feast. Plenty of veg. I didn't care for the puddings i.e. sticky treacle pudding, mousse au chocolate that was too sweet and others on the plateau. Good selection on the wine list and drinks. Pleasant staff, especially the Romanian waitress who was was very friendly and helpful. Loved the reindeer rugs that were at the back of the wooden benches. Lovely rustic feel and cozy feeling in the restaurant.

I love Smokehouse. I particularly love the Whiskey Room as a lovely, relaxed step into old slow London. It's a real treat to spend an afternoon or evening with friends in this cosy, warm room with some good food and wine. On the subject of food... I love the philosophy of butchering one animal and from there serving portions until it has all been used.... excellent! However the first time myself and 2 friends ordered one of the joints for 3-4ppl there were 2 small slices of meat each, and a lot of inedible fat, for £48 i thought this was a little tight and although the meat was good - it didn't represent quality or value. I've eaten here twice more since then - once the food was delicious- a really good burger they do, and once a pulled meat platter - which was good, but again - a little miserly for the money - if you want to serve a platter of food for people to share - give them a gravy jug or something instead of drizzling a little on the dish and expecting us to be able to transfer that drizzle onto our plate with a fork! It might look good, but it's impossible. Will try once more and keep my fingers crossed.

We have come here as a family for the past couple of years and loved it but our most recent experience has probably put us off coming back. It all started with the booking, when we tried to book a table for 8 we we're told it would have to be from the set menu and after persuading them to let us book they forced us into a 2hr slot and wouldn't allow us to change the time or extend it in case they were too busy (in the end the restaurant was completely dead). Then the food just wasn't of the same standard with the worst part of the meal being my brother and father's shared steak being tiny and oddly served on one plate with chips with a separate chips and side plate, this just made us expect a second plate of steak and made it even more disappointing! When we fed this back to the staff they explained we were wrong and this is always how it's served which obviously made us feel happier about the situation. The desserts were very average to finish off. A reputation lost in one meal, don't think we'll return which is a shame.

We love the Smokehouse and generally go for Sunday lunch. However, we went twice for an early Sunday dinner (6pm-ish) and were hugely disappointed. On both occasions our meals came out far too quickly to have been freshly made and appeared to have been heated up from the lunchtime service. Last time my Yorkshire pudding was actually cold and the rest of the meal was only just warm enough. Service was also slapdash. We were hosting guests so did not want to make a fuss complaining - but I want the management to know that this is a problem and warn others to avoid this time slot.

This was the second visit, the first being shortly after the Chiswick Smokehouse opened last year. Not much seems to have changed. The big strength, and the reason for going back, is the quality of the meat, which was outstanding. The four hungry men shared a very large porterhouse. It was delicious. The service was fine, the environment was fine (tables not close together which was good) but if this establishment lives or dies by the quality of the steaks then based on this visit it will live long and prosper. Prices were not cheap but were comparable to the other meat focussed restaurants in Chiswick (Buenos Aires Steakhouse on Turnham Green Terrace and Foxlow in Barley Mow).

I really like this restaurant but it's starting to feel like a "chain". The chef spent most of his time looking at his smartphone. It was quiet but do it out of sight of customers....Finally, I had the beef burger with Korean pulled pork. The pulled pork was severely over salted. I highlighted it to waitress who said she would pass it on. She didn't and the chef stayed on his smartphone. I'm an ex waiter and I respect a quiet night. This is my fourth visit. I'm disappointed that the menu seems to change so infrequently - the food itself is good though not startling. On my most recent visit it really struck me how small the tables are (we were on a table for two but it was cluttered simply with plates, glasses and a bowl of olives): behind us a table for eight were obviously cramped. And the tables are too close together; squeezing back to his seat one of the party of eight nearly set fire to his jacket from the candle on our table. The service was uncoordinated, borderline chaotic. We had to ask for our olives twice, and they appeared moment before our main course. We had three different members of staff serving us, which felt as though they were looking for something to do by wandering over to ask how things were. Much of their attention was focused on pouring wine from the carafe: I felt pressured as my glass was refilled every time I took a sip. And our bill was wrong - corrected first time; the second time we just paid as it was getting embarrassing.

I spent thirty odd years in the trade and would have loved to have them in my team. One note of descent though for the owner, your back bar is your shop window, you are a pub/restaurant and not a branch of Waterstones, please please get rid of those tacky books on the back bar. So it's the first sunny Sunday of summer and the world is out. With their noisy children. But this place was fantastic. The attentive staff offered us anywhere to sit and we did not choose wisely so they allowed us to move again once we had ordered and a trio of terrors had arrived to despoil the ambiance. We had the chicken to share. It arrived on one plate with the veggies and a side of cauliflower and extra gravy. The largest Yorkshire pudding ever! We served ourselves onto tiny plates but it made you feel like it was all managable and having second helpings was like a guilty pleasure. Which led to the most amazing pud I have ever had. Called a white chocolate peanut cup. A layer of peanut butter with tiny chips of chocolate, a circular disc of white chocolate caramel, topped with a scoop of chocolate ice cream. I have to admit to getting cross at the ice cream for sliding about, my friend hadn't met anyone who could get cross at ice cream. But I had to confess that I'm not a fan of the chocolate variety, I prefer Cornish vanilla, or pistachio. Anyway, this is so sweet it took half an hour to eat! Friend rescued the ice cream in the end and put it out of its misery. So, menu great, service spectacular and overall a massive hit with us. You won't be disappointed.

We've eaten at The Smokehouse before and had had pretty good meals. This time however we arrived pretty early, 7-7.30ish, but they'd already run out of decent steaks and had also made the mistake of accepting a large table, about 20 people, who bellowed at one another from one side of the table to the other. Not even from one end of the table to the other. The waitress was powerless and resignedly explained two other tables had already chosen to leave. So we left too, deciding it was too pricey an evening not to get the food we were after and not be able to hear one another speak. We were a table of 6, but could do nothing to restrain the huge table. The restaurant clearly preferred to let (at least) 3 tables leave with the effect of ruining our Sat evening. Disappointed and let down doesn't begin to describe it.

Disappointing compared to my experience in Islington? Yes. The dishes here just seemed less well conceived with flavours that were either too timid or too muddled. The squid added absolutely nothing to my smoked pork and there was far too much Israeli couscous. The smoked lamb shoulder was not enhanced by the raclette cheese. The place is nice and the atmosphere is warm thanks a beautiful French waiter.I've got gnocchi with mushroom as starter which was a little bit poor. As main course I've got the lamb which was very good instead. Nothing special the dessert.Price is quite expensive especially with the service charge of 12.5%. We were three people and the bill was £150 included a bottle of Chianti.

Called up on the day to confirm booking which they did. Called half an hour later to ask a question and they denied all knowledge of our booking and only after much wrangling, assisted.Service very slow. Requested more gravy which never came. Never checked up on us/our food, was then presented with wrong bill. For a 'treat' of a meal, really rather disappointing, especially when shoved into the corner with no room!shoved in corner

Great decor, atmosphere and staff. Food good if a bit heavy; only complaint would be about the fries which reminded me of McDonald's ones and let the side down rather.
