Smiths Hotel in East Dunbartonshire

Visited Sunday lunchtime. The restaurant looked nice. The selection on the menu looked ok but not great. Decided to go for what you would think was a safe bet in fish and chips. Service was pretty slow. When it arrived, it was the worst fish and chips I’ve ever had. Overdone frozen fries, a thimble of pea paste, thin over done piece of fish and half a lime! The other people in our party enjoyed their food and not keen to make a fuss, I endured the fish alone. I went to pay the bill and explained that everyone else was pretty happy but my meal was dreadful and overdone. The plates had been cleared when I returned from the bathroom but at £14 I thought this was worth mentioning! I was told by the manager, ‘well if I can’t see it I don’t know there’s something wrong’ I explained it had been cleared by staff. I enquired why I was given a lime disguised as a lemon for the fish and told that was standard. Manager refused to take it off the bill. I was treating my parents to lunch. They had initially quite liked the look of the place and suggested it would be a nice place to host their 50th wedding celebration. After the shocking customer service on my meal, they decided against that plan. We won’t be back.

This is an excellent restaurant that is a real boost to Kirkintilloch. A great Sunday evening was had by all our party. Recetion staff warm , friendly and helpfull. The waiting staff warm , friendly , helpfull and appropriately attentive. The ambiance and decor were luxurious and inviting . One of our party is a former Egon Ronay contributer. He was very impressed and is returning with his friends. The food was outstanding really that good . In all an essential venue

We visited The Broadcroft Hotel for dinner tonight for the first time. When we first arrived, the restaurant was fairly busy but not full. Waiting staff were very attentive and our order was taken. We ordered drinks which arrived quickly. The plan was to have main courses, puddings and coffees. Our mains arrived promptly and the food was delicious. Good sized portions too. All was going well. The restaurant was getting busy now. My partner asked the waitress for another drink. 15mins later, still no drink. We pointed out to the waitress we were still waiting. She apologised, said the bar was very busy and we'd get our drink as soon as they could manage. About 15mins after that the drink arrived. We finished our mains and eventually the waitress removed our plates etc. We thought she'd come back to ask if we wanted to see the sweet menu or maybe wanted coffees, but no. We waited for about 15mins, but nobody came near us. Our impression was, now the restaurant was pretty much full, the staff were struggling to cope. We decided to give sweets and coffee a miss as we felt we'd wait 15mins for the menu, then another 20mins for our sweets, then the same again for coffees. We decided to get the bill instead. After about 10mins trying to catch the attention of staff, many of whom rushed past us without making eye contact, eventually a waitress came over. We asked for the bill. She didn't ask if we wanted sweets or coffees. It was as if she was happy for us to leave so she had less customers to deal with. We paid and left. The decor is lovely, the menu is really good, the staff were polite and the food was delicious. Unfortunately, I think as soon as it got busy, the staff struggled. Disappointing and not sure we'll be back.

On Saturday 24th July 2021 I attended the Broadcroft Hotel, Kirkintilloch. We were a group of 7 from 2 separate households. On arrival our table was not ready so were directed to a table next to the bar to have a drink whilst we waited. We were then lead to our table for our meal to be told at this point 4 people from the party were to go to one table and the other three to a separate table so we would not be seated together. At this point I challenged us being separated and asked why we could not be seated together. I was told due to covid restrictions we were not allowed to sit together. I asked why when we were all just sitting together at the one table having drinks whilst waiting to be seated for our meal. Again I was told due to covid restrictions this was the rules and our group had to be separated. I then asked to speak to the manager as I was not happy about this. I explained the situation to the manager only to be told this is the covid rules in hospitality. I asked why I was not informed of this when I called to make the booking for the manager to say “I’m quite sure you were” in a patronising manner. I told him I was not made aware of this and that had I been told this I would have booked to go elsewhere. I also asked why we were the only group being split up as I could see quite clearly there were other groups of more than 6 people seated together. In all the years I have been going out to restaurants I have never came across a manager with such a poor attitude. He was patronising and insinuated that I was a liar. The manager and their staff should keep policies up to date with the government guidelines as in level 1 hospitality, you are allowed 8 people from 3 households to be seated together and in level 0 you are allowed 10 people from 4 households to be seated together and this is government guidelines. We were left embarrassed in front of other customers and the manager was not helpful in resolving our complaint. Due to the poor management of the situation we left and went elsewhere, were we were seated together as a party of 7 without any issues. If you are a larger party I would avoid dining here as management are not adhering to current guidelines within hospitality and you will most likely be separated. I for one will avoid here in future.

This was the 2nd time I visited in a week, and I was so disappointed. We arrived at 6:55 and it was 7:25 before our food order was taken. It was not particularly busy, maybe 8 or 9 tables with customers. The food itself was ok, but the pate had a slightly sickly taste to it, not as nice as the previous week’s. The Macaroni was not creamy as described in the menu, but quite dry and almost powdery. The duck was nice and so was the beef and veg pie and the lasagne. I ordered another pint of beer and again I waited over 20mins, having to remind the waiter who took the original request. Once we finished the mains, the plates were not cleared until 20-25mins later. When asked for feedback, my wife told the supervisor about our wait to order and he said that was not true, which annoyed us even more. We were lying apparently. In summary, bitterly disappointed with my second visit and even more so, when I had recommended to 6 other people.

The food and service was great. I had my dog with me and they were fantastic with her. That alone would make me visit again. Great food and very pet friendly. 5 stars keep up the good work.

what can i say been back time and again to smiths for food and for drinks never disappoints staff are very friendy and attentive the food is exceptional and very reasonably priced definately rate this place.

After leaving tips for the staff who served me all afternoon I have just been told by a member of staff that management keep all the tips. From now on tips get paid straight to staff in cash

12 of us all varying ages, tastes and dietary requirements had big family catch up dinner. Menu was extensive and food was delicious and well plated..... lots of ooooo’s around the table when food came out ( steak and ale pie looked the business...... but needed just a tad more gravy to be the business) Table faves were: Cullen skink soup Chorizo and haddock cerviche Pan seared salmon Steak n ale pie 💗. But more gravy please 👍🏻 Food was gorge, service was great. ( staff were onit, but not fussing round you). Intuitive staff is what we love , you want your next drink but not someone asking if your table is ok every 2 mins. These guys were intuitive. Puds were yum Creme brûlée: 💗 Cheesecake : 💕💕💕💕💕💕 Ice cream: Too many flavours too consider! Had to ask son if he wanted a straw to finish..... just to stop him rimming the glass. Thanks smith Hotel. Après deux jours de visites à Glasgow, nous souhaitions rester tranquille le dernier soir, nous avons donc dîner au restaurant de l'hôtel et avons été très agréablement surpris. Bien qu'arrivés à la fin du service, le chef est resté en cuisine pour nous cuisiner quelque chose, et tout était très bon. Big up à notre serveur/receptioniste/barman Mimmo 👍🏻

Stayed in the attached hotel. The food was so good we ate there 3 meals of the day! Was an excellent reliable spot which we used as a base to experience the sight seeing of Glasgow. Would definitely recommend an evening meal with a nice selection of wines with dinner.

The restaurant is situated within Smiths Hotel where we were staying and the fare on offer was of such high quality and value, we eat there 2 out of the 3 nights we were residing. Great range of local produce on the menu & the staff were extremely attentive. Good selection on the wine list with local beers also available.

had been here many times before. Decided to visit as it had been decorated and is in a good location. menu looked good. we asked a staff member to explain what the ragu was like. she recommended it and it sounded lovely. My experience of ragu includes tomatoes. This was basically stew with pasta which was slimey and not appetising. The beef was slow cooked and tender but the dish did not work. There was not a tomato in site. Since I did not eat this I opted for the cheese board which was also inedible, solid and poorly presented. The waitress removed the dishes without comment and I left hungry and disappointed. My other half had fish and chips which he said was okay.

Food bland, staff clearly do not want to be there. Awful. Don't waste your hard earned cash. I won't be back.

Enjoyed an evening meal at this venue recently. The food was absolutely superb, the service was excellent , and it was real value for money. Would definitely recommend this venue when dining out in Kirkintilloch .

We have been here a few times now and think it’s great value for money. The young staff team are always polite and helpful and the food very good. I would say it’s ready for a refurb and the toilets really do need updating as soon as possible. Other than that it’s a thumbs up from us.

Back here with a group of friends. 16 of us with some going for usual menu, some for the Christmas one and some a mix of both. Every person very impressed with quality of food, service and cost (£300) all having 3 courses and cost including drinks. Only a few of us had been before and rest of group saying they will return soon.

To save me going out of the hotel for a small meal, I decided to try the restaurant at Smiths, were we were staying. I had two starters (melon and crab cakes) which were both very nice and just the right amount. The house rose was a bit ordinary - but on hindsight I should have looked at the wine list.

Prawn cocktail and fish and chips for me Tomato soup and Rib eye steak for husband. Just wish we could have managed a pudding -great choice.

Dined in this place a few times and its good value for money with lovely presented food . But be aware drinks are not the cheapest so racks your bill up if you spending the night here

Becoming quite the regular here in the last few years and I think their menu is always well priced and the food tasty. I was always a fan of the steak pie as the meat was fat and gristle free but unfortunately that has changed. Today's steak pie was a shadow of what it used to be. Very dry and tough meat. Always a shame when they change the recipe or style of a meal when it was already absolutely bang on

Cinco de nosotros visitamos este restaurante la última noche y tuvimos una gran noche. No nos apuraron aunque el restaurante estaba bien, muy tranquilo. Una noche fría y húmeda de la elección en Escocia). Los dos primeros platos fueron excelentes, tuve el pollo pakora y mi esposa tenía las alas de pollo. Ambos eran compartidas en la mesa y a todos nos gustó. A los platos principales y cuatro de nosotros tenía el pastel de carne. Debería haber sacado una foto como la porción es enorme, no hay grasa o y este estaba delicioso grissle. Mi suegro tenía el pescado y patatas fritas, pero él es muy exigente, así que preguntó si podía haber empanadas de pescado en vez de maltratada. No hay problema y cuando llegamos, era perfecto para él. Nuevamente fue una gran parte así que dieron un recipiente y tomó la casa de descanso para el almuerzo hoy con él. Los pudines también estaban bien, probamos la tarta de chocolate fudge, caramelo y toffee pudding pegajoso pastel de manzana. No estoy seguro exactamente casa mucho el menú fijo era pero creo que era de alrededor de £12 por tres campos. Todo lo que sé es que la factura era mucho menos de lo que esperaba.

First time have a late lunch at Smiths would have no hesitation on recommending it. Excellent value for money. Surroundings excellent could hear one another talking. tables spread out so plenty of room if you want an intimate meal.

Travelling alone, I was asked if I was happy with the table offered (I was), ordered and the food came promptly. I had haggis and black pudding with black pepper sauce - a superb combination and deliciously well cooked, then wild salmon from Loch Fyne - again perfectly cooked, and full of taste. With a preprandial drink and a large glass of very good wine, the bill of 21 pounds was a pleasant surprise. I added a decent tip as the service had been discrete, respectful and yet warm. (I was pleased not to be implored to 'enjoy' nor asked every three minutes if I was happy. ).

Éramos un grupo de 4 y tenía la oferta de teatro en £10 por 3 platos. El camarero era muy inteligente, profesional y agradable. La comida estaba muy bien presentado y muy sabroso, me gustó especialmente el relleno de hongos para empezar. Y tuve el haggis rellenos de pollo que estaba muy sabroso, los otros eligió el pescado y patatas fritas y dijo que el pescado estaba muy bueno. En general, una buena noche.

Went for dfinner as a couple, service was awful the young girl who served our food basically threw the plates down and walked away I had to call over to her for vinegar she came back chucked it down in front if us and walked away we had finished our drinks so our glasses were empty she never acknowledged the empty glasses we were haslf way through our meals without drinks when we managed to get the attention of a nice young man who went asnd got us drinks , no one came near us to check if everything was all right. a dark haired older lady with red jacket who seemed to be in charge was leaning against bar with the waitress who had served us our food looking bored and showed no concern for customers I am so disappointed I have been here a few times and it was always good but tonight was awful you get better service if a fast food counter worst service I have ever had .

La comida era no tanto tiempo después de que pedimos y estaba delicioso el camarero Liam era tan agradable y muy bien mannared, sin altamente recomiendo a amigos y familiares.

Fuimos aquí como una gran familia de 11 de nosotros. que en principio reservamos habitación en ir a Ashoka cercano que han perdido su camino con cena Navidad en últimos años, así que Smiths era la próxima elección cercano a todos. El servicio es fantástico, no es el más rápido pero queríamos a pasarlo bien y relajarse y nosotros lo hicimos. No se detenga de desastre y sin problemas. Comida sabrosa y cálidas y buenas raciones. Bien vale la pena el cambio y vale la pena el dinero. Este esfuerzo debe aplicar para una comida normal, aunque durante la semana o una tarde de sábado que esto puede dejar el lugar. Pero para la cena crumbo - si me Santa id comer aquí tras brindar todas esas prezzies!

I have been going to the steak night for a while, and wanted to treat the family which we had looked at on line but when we got there it was a new menu, no steak night any more, got offered a Flat Iron Steak(which I've never heard of) it was rubbish the texture was like liver. The deserts were awful, also the have not updated their web site menus, my family were disappointed, I will not be back!

He estado en Smiths en numerosas ocasiones. El personal siempre fue muy amable y servicial. La comida es increíble. Por desgracia, el menú fue cambiado hace un par de semanas. Tuve una buena comida hace un par de años, que es la razón por la que volver esperando que un día sería bueno otra vez!! Por desgracia, no!! La comida es barata y compraron en lo que es en realidad muy bien si en un Wetherspoons!! Sin embargo a cargar más del doble del precio de la comida no puntas blancas para la mitad de bueno es absurdo. Me gustaría Smiths que mejorar no hay donde "bueno" para comer en kirky a menos que estés tras un italiano. Hay una razón por la mitad 5 un sábado hay sólo 4 personas en restaurante!!

He visitado Smiths en una noche de viernes como lo hacen una noche de carne cada semana y nunca me han decepcionado con una buena relación calidad-precio. Sin embargo, fin de semana pasado me llevé a mi esposa y niños para una comida y nos sorprendió gratamente. Me ofrecieron el Flat Iron carne (nunca había oído hablar de uno antes), que era el mejor filete que he tenido! Salsa de pimienta fue fantástico y las batatas fritas ofrece algo un poco diferente a los chips normales. Mi leves - postres únicos de queja eran un poco decepcionante, ya que el chocolate fudge cake parecía ser comprado, y no casero! Aparte de eso, era un gran lugar para disfrutar de una comida e incluso tiene una zona al aire libre donde los niños pueden dejar fuera algún vapor que apreciamos. Volveré para más de la carne y salsa de pimienta!!

Yo estaba en Smiths hoy. Tuve la torta de carne ya que es mi favorito. Creo que hay nuevo personal de cocina. Lo que me impactó! Llegó en un buen plato individual y su aspecto y sabor recién horneada a la orden. La pastelería era el mejor que he probado jamás. Mi esposa tenía medio pescado y patatas fritas que era excelente y abundante para el almuerzo. Bonito lugar con un buen ambiente y me gustó que era una cocina abierta. Muy recomendable y volveremos. Buen trabajo Smiths.

Fui a Smith para una bautizo. Cuando la primera vez que entré en la suite de plata que era una cálida bienvenida personal. El ambiente de la noche fue estupendo y la comida de un alto estándar de calidad, desde entonces he estado en Smiths 100 veces-no es broma!

Mi marido y yo estuvimos aquí para la cena. Muy buen servicio y muy buena relación calidad-precio. Tienen un comer al aire libre son lo que es encantador cuando el clima es agradable. La comida era excelente y el servicio era rápido. Volvería aquí para una cena y lo recomiendo. Me di cuenta, aunque la zona las ventanas en el exterior con mesas están necesitando limpiado ya que tenían napas de arañas en ellos. Esa fue la única pega que pude ver.

Menu to cover all tastes, food very well cooked and presented, good bar and service, no pressure to vacate table. If good weather, very pleasant to eat outside.

Pésimo servicio! costó media hora de pedir bebidas como personal estaban ignorando nosotros y repetidamente a pie pasando por ver que no habíamos pedido nada! Cuando finalmente ordenados beber el tardó 15 minutos, el servicio fue extremadamente lento hasta pedimos la factura! El personal era maleducado y estaban asistiendo a cada mesa excepto la nuestra y a mí y a mi compañero nos sentimos como si porque jóvenes nos trataron como tierra! No te recomiendo que vayas! El horrible ambiente la distribución del restaurante no es muy agradable! No es un buen lugar para disfrutar una comida

Visitamos el restaurante el sábado por la noche para una pequeña reunión cumpleaños, 10 personas, mesa fuera agradable, más el menú fijo y la elección era buena y variada. £13,50 por 3 platos. Todo el mundo disfrutó allí comida y recomiendo que lo intentes. muy buena relación calidad-precio

Went in on saturday afternoon on the 28th of february for lunch.went to the bar ordered a cider and a diet coke by the time i got back to the table there was a menu there for myself and my girlfriend.we both went for the set menu i had the prawn pil pil with dip and bread my girlfriend had the grilled portobello mushroom.We both enjoyed the starters and the service was good as well as the friendly staff and chilled atmosphere.For the main meals we both had the burgers and red onions with Mayonnaise which came with a little bucket of chips served on a wooden platter with a little side dish of tomato sauce.The burger room is over the road from this hotel but i think they would struggle to make a better burger than i had in smiths hotel in kirkintilloch.The burger was really big and very tasty in fact its one of the best i have ever had in my life.I dont really go out a lot for lunch due to finding somewhere that serves fresh and tasty food in my local area although i live in bishopbriggs which is about 10 minutes away.But the one thing i will say is smiths hotel provided both fresh and tasty food and there waiting staff including the young girl who served us and the other young gentleman on the floor were really a credit to them with there attention to detail.Its nice to go out and have something to eat and see staff with smiles on there faces and happy at there work.So i would give this place 10 out of 10 for food and service and an extra merit for friendly staff.The cost of 2 starters and two mains on the set menu was £17 which i thought was good value for the great meals they provided.Me and my girlfriend would both be happy to go back there anytime and we will be eating here on a regular basis.

8 of us went for a evening meal staff were great we had a girl called Nicole serving us extremely helpful and patient (I took ages to choose so much on offer) I had goat cheese bruschetta which was lovely and salmon and veg for main could not fault. Atmosphere was relaxed planning on going again with Hubbie highly recommend faultless

Booked for the Hogmanay Gala Evening starring Gerry Anderson & his wife on keyboards, the 3 course set menu was very good, service also good, plenty of staff to attend to the full house, complimented Gerry and the owners at the end of the evening on our way to a waiting taxi, will be back for the next New Year event, thanks again for a great night!

Had meals from main menu very good and good portions they also have a set menu which is very good value three courses for £13-50 service was excellent will defenately. being gowing back.

Fuimos con unos amigos para cenar y tomar unas copas. La comida estaba en general bien, pero mi pollo estaba muy seco y me preguntaba si había sido congelado antes. Nos alojamos en unas pocas bebidas después de la cena sin embargo una vez que empezaron a presentar con vasos de plástico que nos pareció que ya era suficiente.

I was wary of eating here on a Monday afternoon with no other diners. Our food was slow to arrive but thankfully this was due to it being cooked to order. My fish was fresh and tasty and my partners lasagne delicious.

I went here with a couple of friends last month. Lovely surroundings but I found the food a bit average and lacking taste. Maybe I just chose the wrong dishes. However the service was quick efficient and friendly.

Hemos estado en Smiths un par de veces y hemos decidido que es mi restaurante favorito que he visitado hasta ahora. La primera impresión que te encuentras son cálidos, acogedores y amables. I f estás buscando un buen sabor y comida bien preparada, deberías probarlo. La factura es muy buena relación calidad-precio y el personal es amable y servicial. Recomiendo este restaurante a cualquiera.

El almuerzo de domingo con amigos - la comida era aceptable, pero no excepcional, pero perfectamente aceptable y caliente y muy sabroso. domingo opción asado decepcionante - un black pudding rellenas pechuga de pollo no es 'un clásico asado'. bueno y el personal de servicio eficiente y agradable. no evitar, pero no sería una opción para comer regular - parcialmente hay mejores opciones y no salir mucho! Sin embargo, será sin duda ir a otro sitio para un domingo asado apropiada.

No me esperaba el Ritz por £11 50 para 2 campos pero esto no era bueno. Los langostinos al principio eran obviamente que descongelar hace 2 días!La carne era tan difícil como las antiguas botas y las patatas fritas congeladas eran justamente eso. El servicio fue bueno, aunque el personal no sabía qué decir cuando les dije que la carne estaba dura. cafés tomó media hora para llegar pero dijo la camarera era porque los residentes bajaron todas para bebidas al mismo tiempo. Así, parece no residentes tienen que esperar hasta los residentes se sirven. ».

visite nuestros padres decidimos sacarlos para domingo comida. elegir Smiths fue una buena decisión. La comida era fabulosa, porciones grandes, el personal muy amable y servicial. no me puedo quejar de nada. Leer un comentario anterior mencionar falta de música, pero esta noche había buena música sonando de fondo, creando un ambiente agradable aunque no demasiado ruidoso, permitirnos hablar. Sin duda lo recomiendo y volver.

Hemos cenado en Smiths hotel varias veces antes y siempre he estado bastante satisfecho con mi experiencia. Esta noche no fue diferente sin embargo la camarera me pregunte si o no quería delgado patatas fritas o cortadas a mano complementados con patatas fritas y aunque decirle que quería delgado patatas fritas, que fue presentado con este último. no causa ningún problema ya que la comida era aún a su nivel habitual. Con respecto a la atmósfera me dio la sensación de que un poco de música habría añadido a la experiencia sin esto todas las conversaciones alrededor de la habitación apagado juntos y esto era bastante desagradable. Mi experiencia no me quitó y sin duda cenar aquí de nuevo en el futuro.

my sister and i took my mum and dad out for dinner and loved the new look in smiths the restaurant has been very well decorated since i was last in with a lovely lounge area in the middle it had a nice feel to it staff were friendly one thing we ordered of the menu was not available but what we did end up ordering was delicious and a huge portion will definitely be back.

very good quality food and the was service great , very clean , i liked the open kitchen so u can see the chefs cooking ur food ,iwe were made to feel very importand , the roomd are nice and at night over the weekend theres a niteclub down stairs which wont interfier with guests who dont want it to as the rooms were away from the club side .. i will visit again

My Hubby and I took my Daughter,Son in law and Grandson to this restaurant Last night.We stay in Kirkintilloch but this was the first visit to Smiths and we were not disappointed.

We had a meal on Saturday night. The set meal for 2 was £25 The food was was hot, plentiful and served very promptly A great night-We'll be back

My friend and I decided to go for her birthday, the food was delicious and great value for money, would definately recommend
