Slowboat Take Away in Aberdeen City

Good food, horrible service. Ordered online, they accepted my order and told me to go down at 22:05 (Website says they shut at 22:20) they accept my order and take my money. Walk down and they are closed. Spoke to a guy who argued saying it wasnt them and the moment i asked for a refund they slammed the door in my face. absolute joke.

We order from here all the time and it’s usually so good but tonight was awful salt and pepper chicken was awful, chicken fried rice was tasteless and chips were so dry and hard. Really disappointing

First visit, food was fantastic. I lived in Hong Kong for 6 years so I like to think that I can recognise good Chinese food! Will be back.

Food is always fresh, hot and delicious. Staff are friendly and delivery is always very prompt. We have ordered from here a couple of times now and are never disappointed with the quality of the dishes.

Have been ordering for years and recently made our standard order, recieved a dish which was wrong, called and asked for a replacement and was told we made a mistake with our order. The same order we've made for over ten years, and apparently WE made the mistake. Was told they wouldn't deliver to us again. Sorry to say but this won't help your apparently failing business.

Their food is excellent and have always delivered the food piping hot and in good time. Even during the bad weather!

Best Chinese set dinners for takeaway. We use them regularly. Love the food.

Very rude on the phone. I called to place an order. Had made a list of the numbers of the things we wanted (according to their menu) was told not to order by number, so we had to go back and forth looking for the corresponding dish description again. The woman on the phone was very dismissive, impatient and hung up on us before telling us to make a proper list and call back. Needless to say we didn't call back and ordered from elsewhere, as should every body else. There's no need for rudeness.

Best Chinese in Aberdeen. Food always gets here on time or before the time that was given. Food is always hot and fresh.

Have used Slowboat for years. Unfortunately in recent years, standards and quality have been dropping steadily. Ordering a set meal for example you would have received a 2 ltr bottle of pop. That was replaced by 2 cans. Large bag of crackers. Now half the size. Decent spring rolls now horrible skinny hollow mass produced gunk. All the while the price has gone up and up while the quality of ingredients has gone down. The latest money maker is charging for a bag. Whether you want one or not. Take your own not an option. Front of shop staff's attitude stinks.

I don't usually leave reviews, but just to notify the chef, smoked corn chicken it is not usually like this, it was very dry this time no sauce at all, same for satay chicken skewers. Noodles lovely. I have ordered from you before few times and food tasted nice, cannot say the same for today. A bit of let down..

Spare ribs were excellent no gristle, pork special fried rice was amazing not chewi & fried noodles with barbecue sauce amazing, never go elsewhere

Order the takeaway food when I come to Aberdeen with my friends. When you open the box the food look not good and taste bad. This is worst chinese food I had ever. Never come back again

Below average... Chicken satay skewers were pink on inside and salt and pepper chicken was very chewy and the crispy beef wasn't tasting good and the egg fried rice was just fried rice.. Best thing about the meal was pancake rolls.... Very disappointed meal.

Hands down the most satisfying meal I've ever had. Ordered the salt and pepper crispy chicken. It was different to what I'm used to but certainly the best tasting. Also got the chicken noodle soup that was just perfection. Ordered on deliveroo and left a note to call so I can get to reception, however right on time I got a knock on the door from the driver and he had the face mask on which made me feel safe. Dinner to my room and I couldnt wait to write this. Absolutely outstanding cant wait to try more from here :)

First of all, there are no great Chinese takeaways in Aberdeen. (Not in my experience anyway) Having lived in various different UK cities, I've tried a few. I don't like Indian, never had a pizza delivered and only resort to Kebabs if I'm smashed... I consider myself something of an expert when it comes Chinese takeout. All I can say is, it's pretty good compared to the competition. And reasonable value. The staff are friendly. I've rated it pretty good, but only for Aberdeen.

Just had a beautiful meal from here the spare ribs were amazing and the the meals the sweet and sour chicken the Cantonese chicken and the chicken satay were the best we have had in ages. Thanks again

3 hour wait for delivery, absolute joke, phoned 3 times and they always said it was on its way, it clearly wasn't

Brilliant food and definitely worth it although the place wasn’t the tidiest.

We have used the Slow Boat a number of times & usually received lovely food, however, tonight’s takeaway was an awful experience! Asked for chicken in black bean sauce & honey chilli chicken which we collected. On returning home & dishing up I took one bite of the “chicken” in black bean but bit down on some gristle! I had to stop myself from wretching. On further inspection of the dish, I discovered that not only was it not chicken but it had lots of skin & fat....in fact the majority of the meat (which I realised must have been pork) was covered in a thick layer of skin/fat!! (See photo) My husband’s honey chilli chicken was very rubbery & barely edible! Needless to say we will never be using this takeaway again & will be informing others not to use. Horrendous!!! 😡😡

Excellent food. Delivered piping hot and 20 mins early! Will definitely use again. Huge apologies we had no cash for a tip.. double next time!!

Was ok but not gonna order again

There are a few terrible chinese take-aways in Aberdeen. However this is not one of them. Decent honest no frills take-away serving reasonable food at reasonable prices. Won Ton soup superb! Super quick delivery. Yep one of the better take-aways in town.

Favourite Chinese takeaway! Missed a couple of items in my order tonight, called and the girl I spoke to was very nice and apologised for the mistake - they quickly sent out the two missing items along with a 2l of irn bru! Food is amazing! Will be back again.. 👍👍

Tend to use this Chinese takeaway for a treat tea for the family. They advertise that they use less sugar and salt. No MSG and only 100% cholesterol free vegetable oil in the meals. So if you want to have a treat and eat a Chinese healthier takeway, give them a try. Prices reasonable and if order over £18 get free bag of prawn crackers.

Excellent food and very good value

I don't mind the takeaway food form the Slowboat. The speed of delivery is good and the pricing is reasonable. I do find the woman that takes the order on the phone a little rude and abrupt though.

A great little family run place. Most of the positive reviews describe it accurately. Not oily or overly salty but still flavourful with fresh ingredients. A modest selection of vegetarian dishes are included among over 200 Chinese (mostly), Thai, and Vietnamese dishes, but none with tofu. They were able to put together my order while I ran to the cash machine because they don't take cards.

Fantastic food, we got sweet sour chicken with noodles... also sweet sour king prawns... was amazing. They do a great selection including Thai dishes. Would reccomend.

Service is fast and easy, but best to phone ahead at peak times. Starters are very expensive and best to pick freshly made dishes for main course, nothing that is just cooked in a deep fat fryer (anything with batter on it). if you pick the right dish the food is tasty and adequate. As with all take away, prices are going up and portions reducing. All in all, nice takeaway and tasty with the right dish.

One of the best Chinese Takeaways in Aberdeen. Very quick and the food is always fresh and tasty. Always seems to be very consistent which is rare for most takeaways. Love it.

Chips and curry sauce nice. Chicken is soft and spongy. Ready in 2 mins that can't be good. Took back and only refunded as long as I never eat it. My thought is they are going to re sell it. AVOID

The honey chilli chicken was disappointing; chicken came in popcorn form and was definitely heavily processed and half the meal consisted of pineapple. Just tasted cheap and the egg fried rice tasted like it had been made days ago. I have had the stomach flu ever since eating there and I’m starting to think that it’s not just a coincidence as the hygiene seemed questionable. As I was waiting on my food I witnessed the cooking staff coughing into their hands and using the phone then proceeding to continue with cooking without washing their hands. There was also a really dirty open top fish tank sitting mere steps from the kitchen. I really don’t like leaving horrible reviews but after being unable to keep food down for a few days now I felt I should warn people. I checked reviews before visiting and they seemed good so maybe I just went on the wrong night ☹️

First time with the showboat . Ordered spring rolls and salt and pepper ribs to start . Spring rolls looked really nice and crispy but didn't seem cooked right through and not much taste. Ribs were chopped up ribs so lots of little bits of meat on the bone very tough. Main course was Peking chicken ,unfortunately same again very bland not really much taste. Fried rice came out of container in one big lump, you could slice it. Curry sauce was really mild . One plus point was the chips were excellent . All in all not the worst meal I've ever had but ,simply pretty average don't think I'll visit again .

Worst chicken balls ever. I was looking forward to some nice chicken breast inside these, instead I got slimy wet chicken. Restaurant refused to take return of food so it went in the bin!

Husband insisting on ordering a birthday take away from here mid week. I initially objected as it would impact on my diet regime - lost 5 stone since Christmas, before then I think I demonstrated my ability to navigate a take menu...Turns out that my fears were unsubstantiated as the food was basically inedible and a meal from here is unlikely to result in weight gain for anyone with taste buds or a pallet. Soup was way too salty and devoid of any flavour. Too much salt and sauce in the mains with the base meat either rubbery or overdone. Husband insisted on trying everything but we ended up resorting to dumping it in the bin and going for cheese and buscuits. Was late and didn’t get the order right, however this incedental compared to poor quality of food.

This appears to be the takeaway with the most authentic Chinese food in the area. Owners spoke Cantonese...although not too friendly, their fried noodles and stir fry dishes were good. Typical takeaway prices. They take ONLY cash, no cards. Only delivery and takeaway, no space for seating inside.

Noodles a bit rubbery, and they charge extra for chopsticks. Prices are good however and service is fairly fast

Always choose a slow boat. And they ain't slow with their orders either. Food tastes good. Often we will try another Chinese but always end up going back to slow boat as they are better.

Order was slightly wrong, was given satay chicken when not ordered and given chicken not shrimp, my partner has a nut allergy. Order was sorted but was told to pay for delivery although no delivery charge was stated at checkout, also chicken was still slightly pink causing me to be up sick at stupid o'clock in the morning. Not great.🤙🏻

Super quick delivery, not too geasy nor heavy

Can't describe the food. Ordered and over an hour and a half and two phone calls later, it still hadn't shown up. Called to cancel and they didn't seem to care.
