Slipway in Torridge

Revolting chips, the lady just popped cold already cooked ones from earlier back into the fryer, rock hard and oily , the chips are like cheap ones too… used to be a great chippy , when large was large and the potatoes were fresh not refried for god knows what time

Looking for food in Westward Ho just after 7pm, my Son really wanted a burger box from the Slipway Cafe. We stood and waited for a couple of minutes, and then a girl literally appeared and just glumly announced "Closed. Pasties only." We looked at the two staff briefly and then said "oh, okay" and walked away. How bizarre. In this day and age, to actually turn away custom - when clearly you're open, but just don't want to cook anything else. Our order was likely to pay for those two members of staff for well over an hour, but. We holiday annually in Westward Ho! but will now definitely avoid this place.

The food was smelling lovely as we was walking down to the slipway..so decided to order 2 cheeseburgers and chips. Sausage and chips and 2 coffees Got to say the chips was ok Son said the Sausage was ok but only ate half( not like him) Cheeseburgers! Roll was ok Burger was well over cooked..a cheap pathetic looking thing with no taste Onions was so burnt black Well infact it couldn't be eaten..couple bites that was enough The lad serving well I'm sure he didn't want to be there. Threw the roll down in the container ..no please or thank you Then was charged 24.00 pounds for this!!

Sometimes I avoid the prominent places, for fear of it being a tourist trap. No fear of that here. Right on the front, service with a smile and very tasty pasties. Sit on the sea front in the sunshine and wonder why we bother travelling abroad!

£4 for a cheap frozen burger and would you believe £5 for a cheese burger ,so thats a pound for a piece of cheese, robbers at this terrible time,oh and the chips were cold,i can see how this takeaway has such terrible reviews

Went down for a nice hot pasty on a freezing cold day, instead got a burnt to the brim sack of crap. It was burnt, meat was burnt, pastry was burnt, potatoes were dry and had clearly been sat there all day, might as well have eaten a chip off the floor, would’ve gotten better value.

Well we had to eat somewhere so we thought Pasty time. Not had many so far so we dived in for a pasty. Nice pasty, hot peppery and the meat was nice. Just the job on this windy day.

We all had hotdogs and chips.the people were polite friendly. Great food. ( Real sausages) . nothing was too much trouble. Would highly recommend. Hygiene was excellent

But the place looks so low grade! After years of avoiding this place, we decided to try the pasties as they looked so nice. They were awful! Greasy, chewy meat and lacking in flavour. I always hate leaving poor reviews as we love to support our local businesses but this place makes this area of the village look so run down and tacky. With new, tasteful signage this place could look so much nicer. I know they probably will never do anything to improve the look as they are so busy in the summer with a captive audience of tourists who don’t bother walking a few more feet from the beach to one of the nicer eateries the Ho! has to offer.

Portion sizes are tiny and prices far too high. £4 for a large chips which was a portion big enough for a child.

Sullen staff, average food, and strangely there’s been a sign in the front stating CASH ONLY as card machine broken.... since October 2019?! Yeah right!! 🙄

A very good selection of food and drink available at reasonable prices particularly for the location.

Good variety of food on the menu board. Good value for money. Also good for familys. Also good customer service.

The slipway takeaway is perfectly located for a hot cup of tea whilst watching the kids play n the sea. Emergency chips / pasties for after their surfing lessons and hot chocolates to warm us all up. Great food, great service and great value.

This was my child's first ever visit to an arcade and she loved it so much! Happy memories were definitely made there. Lovely position next to beach.

Overpriced and greasy, not to mention the woman manager is awful and rude and should learn about customer service!

the manager known as Mr Cook was a massive raging racist sexist to me!!!i asked if i could get a replacement portion of chips because they were burnt. he responded with "f**k off you black women, you are only good for the kitchen!!" i believe this is unacceptable behaviour for someone with authority and hope that this service can be improved.

The slipway is perfectly situated for those who fancy a quick bite to eat and a drink. We use it often in the early evening when we fancy a burger and chips. Friendly staff and well priced.

This place is run by a guy who thinks he owns Westward Ho! He even got into an argument with Hockins, the long established ice cream makers and sellers.

Not eaten here, so cannot comment on standard of food, however would not waste my money in an establishment that is rude to customers and cannot offer the basics of welcomes, smiles, politeness and manners to any customer no matter how much they spend or what they wish to purchase.

A quick pastie and coffee whilst escaping the rain(!) Was pleasantly surprised. Pasties were full of filling and flavour and very reasonable at £3.50.

After coup,e hours on the beach the kids were hungry again so a coup,e portions of cheesy chips to snack on and everyone was happy. Hot and tasty.

After approaching the Slipway Cafe yesterday afternoon with a request for tap water for her husband to take medication she was refused with the comment ' we haven't got tap water but can sell you bottled water'. I presented myself to the same young man moments later with the said medication in hand only to be told 'I am not allowed to give away water, I can only sell it in bottles'. I can only say thank goodness there are other establishments in the immediate vicinity who are willing to oblige i.e. the fish & chips establishment in the car park, who also have a full range of other beverages. I know where I shall be buying my tea in the future. The Slipway proprietors prosperity consciousness has gone out with the tide!

Have purchased takeaway food from here many times over the last few years

After a walk on the beach enjoy a great snack. Fantastic choice, burgers, pies, pasties, hot dogs, chips, ice-creams and soft drinks. All perfectly cooked, except the soft drinks, in clean and hygienic conditions.

We were enjoying a day out at Westward Ho and have previously used this takeaway, before the refurbishment took place, and the food was value for money and very delicious. However, on this occasion we were more than disappointed. We had 2 meat pasties and 2 lattes, not only we're these majorly over priced at £12, the pasties were absolutely awful, they were very greasy and left a terrible after taste. The lattes were as expected. We will not be using this establishment again.

Nice new takeaway with nice pasties, right beside the beach ,will be back for more yummy 😋 pasties chips and burger 🍔 can't miss it right at the end of Westbourne terrace

Comimos allí mientras en la playa, los olores son increíbles, puedes oler las patatas fritas y vinagre en el paseo de la grada hacia la playa y estás enganchado, después de un chapuzón en el mar es lo que necesitas, patatas fritas muy bien si necesitas una solución rápida

Had a burger and chips here today, very tasty-will be back for the same again before our visit ends for sure.

Ok i hate these places but take the kids and they get so excited its almost worth the expense so in its place this is an entertaining one

Playa, pero también cuando la marea está subiendo, se puede encontrar algunas personas ferial reúne alrededor de la base de que durante el verano, ya que son demasiado vago para encontrar un lugar más aislado más allá de la playa.
