Traditional Fish and Chips in Torridge

Had one portion of cod & chips & one scampi & chips because we were told at 16.30 that they only had one piece of fish left. Food was cooked as we waited. I asked for the food to be wrapped as we were talking it away but got given a box that couldn't be closed (with a shrug of the shoulders) due to the only good thing I would say about the place & that was the portion sizes. The batter on the fish was undercooked & the fish was chewy. The scampi was overcooked. The chips are most definitely were frozen oven chips. Everything had an unpleasant flavor from what I'm assuming is the oil used to cook in. Would give no stars if possible for the food. The positive reviews surprise me & what made me try there in the first place.

Friendly service but the batter on the fush wasn’t cooked inside and the chips were frozen ones cooked in old oil giving all of it a burnt under-taste to it. The curry sauce I was given didn’t taste like any curry sauce I’ve ever tasted. Over all, nit a great experience for £26.00.

Excellent, highly recommended. Good food and a highly efficient electronic screen ordering system in place. Helps speed things up during busy periods.

Best fish and chips in westward Ho . Huge portions. Beautiful crisp batter and chips. You may have to wait a little but it's cooked fresh . I live here and only buy from Dean and his family.

Visited today for the first time, really hungry following a swim. Fish, fish cake and chips cooked to order, generous portions, piping hot and delicious, really friendly guy cooking food. Waive locally and will visit again

Lovely chips, just what we needed after a day on the beach!

There was no atmosphere it's just a seafront takeaway; I had to wait over twenty minutes for the fish to be cooked (obviouly from frozen); the batter was thin and crispy but very greasy/oily with soggy batter on the inside; the chips were 50/50 very good/very bad. One hour after eating this meal I had to rush to the toilet and spent some ten minutes emptying my bowels, my wife who must have a stronger stomach than me followed some 30 minutes later with the same result, whether or not it was the fish or the chips or a combination of both I don't know. We deffo will NOT GO THERE AGAIN. My order number was 53 @ 14:12pm, till 1.

Stopped here last week charged me 16 pound for 1 fish and chips and 2 cans of diet coke. Wot a rip off. Taking advantage of the first in the row of food stalls. Don't use them walk further into town. Hate being ripped off.

Its a nice fish and chips shop that isn’t too busy. Though I have a few complaints about the food, the chips were salted way too much and we barely got any ketchup with the Chips and Hotdog. Overall I would return so it definitely doesn’t deserve below a 4 star.

Very salty chips, almost had an heart attack expensive, LONG wait, chips were burnt so we contacted the authorities but the bags were eco friendly!! Very disappointed they should be taken down.

Best chips I've had in a long, long time. Cooked to order and friendly service. Good curry sauce too. We come to Westward Ho every couple of months so I'm delighted to discover this excellent chippy.

We visited Traditional Fish and Chip while we were walking along the beach and around the area. Stopped to have a drink and some chips. Chips are very good and the portions were generous well worth the money. Benches out the front so you can sit and watch the sea.

The chips tasted like they was left over from lunch fried and re fried and then fried again for the sake of it. Full of grease and no potato left in the hard dead carcass of a shell that one person would call a chip. Avoid at all costs if you want to enjoy some chips otherwise buy them and go hungry.

We visited Traditional Fish and Chips today and its certainly not traditional as unfortunately after having put our order in we sat back and watched frozen Chips be put into the fryer. For £8.50 each truly disappointing especially when the fish was actually to a good standard. We are not local but after walking past Atlantic Bay on the green we could see that it was certainly a more traditional fish and chips to be enjoyed with not a frozen chip in sight. Don't make the same mistake we did and enjoy some classic fish and chips elsewhere.

Definitely not the “traditional” fish and chips they claim to be. Nothing spoils a fish and chip takeaway more than frozen chips - rubbish, I want the unique, chip shop style chips you just can’t replicate at home. Stick to the their competitor, I know I will, there’s a reason for the crowds waiting on the green for orders!

Had some fantastic scampi and chips. The fish was nice and the chips (pub style) were very crispy and enjoyable. Would recommend over the other options in Westward Ho!

Really disappointed - went here after loads of great reviews but spend £30 on 4 portions of oily, brown chips. It was late in the day (17:00) so can only assume the oil hadn’t been changed so the chips were awful. Fish was lovely though.

Simply the best! Must be experienced. Great taste and well cooked - all cooked fresh to order. Be warned though, the portion sizes are big! Childs fish and chips was plenty for me, although my husband and son manage a normal portion!

Chips are a bit of a deliciously for some. Yes, not joking. It all comes down to the oil used, temperature, quality of potato and cooking time. This outlet has it perfected. I was served by a young, smiling lady and the food arrived quickly. Very good prices.

Visited this little Gem whilst on holiday in North Devon. The cod was fresh with a lovely light crisp batter and the chips were cooked exactly how I like them, golden and with a nice crunch. Everything is cooked to order so it's not sitting around for ages and I would say for me it was one of the best cod and chips I have had. We had a good chat with the owner Steve and one of the employees Wayne and although Steve insisted he was the better cook I could see the talent laid with Wayne, only joking Steve but Wayne obviously knows what he is doing and he did cook ours. Would recommend anyone who lives in the area or who is visiting to give these guys a go as you won't be disappointed!

After reading all the glowing reviews, we were pretty disappointed with our fish and chips from here. The chips were "ok" - certainly miles away from what proper chip shop chips should be, more like frozen oven chips. The fish was definitely better than the chips, but again, just fine. We're on holiday in this area and wondering if we're spoilt up North for proper decent fish and chips?

Fish supper, very well cooked fish, still moist served hot with good chips. Reasonable price too.

There were four in our party, 2 had cod and chips, 1 had fish cake and chips and the other jumbo sausage and chips. The chips are superb, a little bit crispy on the outside and hot and soft on the inside. The cod batter was excellent and crispy and incredibly tasty. The fish itself was succulent and just broke apart with ease and the taste was superb. The sausage and fish cake were all good too. Next time we're in Westward Ho, we know where we'll go for our fish and chips. BTW, the staff are nice and friendly too!

Seriously good fish and chips....best I've had in a 6 wk tour of Devon :-) Extremely plump and juicy cod served with crispy chips that were fluffy on the inside...what more could you want...oh yeah...curry sauce and that was lovely too !!

Really good quality fish, chicken nuggets and sausages. Fresh and hot chips. It's 2020 so outside, no masks required and all precautions taken by the owner.

The best fish and chips and a great sized portion, cooked fresh and great service Koby dog was so good with his social distancing he got a sausage cut up and wrapped specially for him bonus location so when the tide was in so we got to enjoy our fish and chip supper with a salty waves splash proper job!!

After a long drive down to Devon on August bank holiday weekend we were tired, and in need of a seaside pick me up. The fish and chips here hit the spot - beautiful fish, really good portions and very fresh!

Fast service, freshly cooked to order and a very high standard. Food was delicious - definitely recommended and I can’t wait to go back again!

Its not often that things are better than expected but this is one of them. Freshly cooked, good value and tasty. We visited in June on the weekend but when we came back with family during the week we were disappointed to find them closed!

The place was recommended for the best Fish & Chips in Westward Ho. It was a Saturday evening our first night and we placed our order. It was very busy and were prepared to wait. They issue wooden spoons with a number to mark your order. They ran out of wooden spoons and started issuing paper with numbers. It appeared to be getting busier and busier with more and more people ordering and waiting and hardly any people being served with their orders. One woman got fed up of waiting and asked for her money back. We weren't in a rush so happy to wait. When we eventually got our order - 4 meals I was shocked, the fish and sausages were fine but in an attempted to keep up with the orders each meal had a quarter portion of chips. I went back to complain and all she could say was sorry. My sons were still hungry after eating their sausage and hardly any chips so we called at Tescos and bought pizzas to cook when we got back. It they are in undated with orders STOP taking orders and fulfil the orders you already have before taking any more.

It was fantastic food I love a bit of fish. I was here for business with my business people, the staff was really friendly and let us get along with our business.

I came here with my son the other day and it was amazing, friendly staff and they were brilliant with my little boy. Highy recommend.

Food is really nice and always fresh! the service is fast so you get to spend more time on the beach then being stuck waiting for food! Will definitely visit again!
