When you first realise that the building is actually a shop you are delighted to have found somewhere to buy food or in fact almost anything else you can think of. The bakery section is particularly welcome for hungry explorers. It’s a shame they don’t still have the DIY cafe.

Superb local shop and stop off for emergency supplies. Found some delightful fair Isle pattern printed mugs perfect for our strong evening 'proper coffee', plus locally made biscuits and fudge to take back for my partner's work mates.

Great shop but having a few tables and chairs does not make it a restaurant. Our food (pies, toasted sandwiches) was just about edible but tasteless. Neighbouring table (perhaps benefiting from local knowledge) ordered bacon rolls which looked and smelled much better.

I would hardly call this place a cafe or restaurant, you can buy coffee and rolls, but you heat them up yourself. The winning thing about Skibhoul Stores, and what keeps them open, is their bakery. They make the best bread in Shetland, and people will come from far & wide for it.

This friendly store sells everything you can imagine! Had a huge range of confectionary I had not seen since I was a child. Watch out for the sell by dates though!

Almost the last outpost in the UK, certainly they bake and sell the best oat cakes! Due to the threat of bakery closures down south we bought ten boxes.

We stayed just down the road from this shop and were able to get plenty of supplies there for food and drink. They even had ice cubes! They also gave a discount on six bottles of beer from the Valhalla brewery - we made sure to bring some back to the mainland.

We had considered stocking-up on the mainland before we got the ferry- but while staying in self catering accommodation on Unst, we found Skibhoul Stores to have everything we might need to prepare meals and picnics, as well as anything else you might require. It's easy to support the local economy when you have a friendly and well-run shop like this one.

Like most shops in Shetland, Skibhoul stores sells everything from aspirin to candles, groceries to gifts. But the cafe is the high light : you pay for your coffee at the shop till, and then go round the corner and make it yourself. You can also buy. Sausage rolls, pies, etc and heat them up in the microwave for a small charge (about5p). They have loads of reading material, including a wide selection of books to buy borrow or swap. Quite unique. And it has a good view.

We were surprised to find such a great variety of goods here, especially the products of the Skibhoul Bakery. We bought a selection of oat cakes to take home to Germany and the friendly lady at the cashier even told us that postal orders from Europe were no problem.

A lovely little shop with absolutely everything you could need for a holiday in Unst. They also make wonderful pizzas on a Friday. Their self service cafe offers a place for a busy traveller to sit down and eat without having to go through the whole dining-in experience. Perfect for travellers with children! Staff are very friendly and welcoming.

We hadn't realised how difficult it would be to buy bread on Unst on a Sunday. The charmingly names "Last Check-out" had run out, so we went down top Baltasound to Skibhoul Store. It was closed, but the owner was just dropping off sum things when we arrived and we explained that we were looking for bread. She gave us enough to meet our needs. Now it is not reasonable to expect her to give her bread away to any hungry traveller arriving at her door, but this really is "above and beyond". This was typical of the friendliness we found on Shetland.

For visitors from the US, the best way I can describe this store is: "Think of a typical gas station convenience store - but subtract the hot dogs and coffee. Then add to it a store of similar size which sells hardware, etc. Lastly put a British twist on everything and a smiling lady at the cash register.Although I can't in good conscious give this store more than three stars, I can recommend it as a place to purchase the basics during a visit to Unst.
