Disappointed! Waited 40mins for food to be served..Opted for Sunday roast.. nice food not worth £16! No vegetables only roast veg!!Yorkshire pudding over done. First visit for friends felt embarrassed. They opted for burgers. Have visited many times before not usual standard!

Worth the drive out, four of us went on a Thursday night as it was steak night , on our arrival we welcomed by young cheery waitresses, shown to our table where menus were already placed, drinks order quickly taken and food order also placed, Food was excellent and in particular the Apple strudel. The overwhelming success of the night was the service of the waiting staff, on the ball from arrival without being intrusive ( well done girls) service was faultless. We had Sunday lunch the week before and this too was excellent, a wee drive from Dundee but worth the effort.

Great find! Fabulous food, beautifully cooked and presented. Nice surroundings and service was friendly and efficient. They do special nights, like Sunday roasts or Thursday burgers etc. Extensive and varied menu with good choices for veggies too. Good bar choices. Playground outside for kids. Shop selling local specialities. Highly recommend a visit.

Been twice in 2023, had a great time on both occasions; food was great, drinks and staff super friendly. Setups great inside and out, hard to pull yourself away sitting in the sun having a beer after your lobster....Current favorite place in Forfar area, will be back soon for sure!

I ate here two nights in a row as I was conveniently staying at a campsite just behind. We were lucky to exploit Thursday Steak Night and Friday Burger Night offers. The beef/steak is locally sourced, ideal for a traveller who wants to eat local Angus beef. The portion sizes were epic! I've never seen onion rings so big & stacked upon the steak and burger. Quality of food was exceptional and prices were fair, especially if you go on an offer night. Staff were kind, friendly and informative. Attached to the restaurant is a small shop selling Scottish produce and you can buy soft/alcoholic drinks here to take back to camp if needed. I'd highly recommend this restaurant.

14 of us for lunch. Service was polite but slow waiting 45 minutes for lunch to be served. Lamb dish was undercooked and returned and although they advised it would be taken off the bill, they charged regardless. 10% service charge applied so tipping is not discretionary. Overall, a poor experience.

Living in Edinburgh it was a long trip to visit this restaurant but it was worth it. Having a weekend in the area we decided this restaurant was first on our 'to do list'. From the moment we arrived the staff were welcoming and professional. The food was outstanding and amazing value for money. We had two 3 course meals and two 2 course with drinks and coffee for under £80. We can't wait to visit again and hopefully we can do the Steak night, next time. Thank you Eden and the team.

This review is for our Sinclairs Kitchen catering experience. Wow, if I could give Sinclairs Kitchen catering more than 5 stars I would. Lucy was amazing and went above and beyond our expectations. From the very first correspondence Lucy did everything she could to answer our questions thoroughly as well as respond to one of our guests directly regarding accommodations for Coeliac disease. Our guest wrote Lucy to enquire about food preparation to ensure no cross contamination with gluten and the response was professional, thorough and provided the reassurance our guest needed to feel comfortable. The knowledge and understanding from Sinclair catering assured us that they could fulfill our needs for not just our Coeliac guest but for our vegan, vegetarian, dairy free and gluten free dietary needs. Leading up to our arrival at our vacation rental Lucy was super helpful guiding me to select the best menu for all 25 guests. The day of the dinner the FOH staff (Lauren & Hannah) were very organized, had set the table beautifully, greeted us with delicious appetizers (including separate platters for each of the guests with dietary requirements), beverages, and ensured we were all well looked after. Our entire group loved the meal, and as hosts, we were so appreciative for the incredible service, attention to detail, and the thorough cleanup that left the kitchen & dining room spotless. The entire experience was top notch. I would recommend Sinclair catering in a heartbeat and if I’m ever lucky enough to return to Scotland I would not hesitate to secure Sinclair catering (Lucy) for another event.

Staying at the local caravan park so decided to book for Sunday dinner. We had been before so knew it was of high quality and a reasonable choice on the menu. The bar and restaurant is really cosy although our last visit we felt the dining room very cold. Thankfully this time it was much warmer and never put us off. Our waitress was very attentive and her service was excellent. We opted for soup to start, broccoli & blue cheese. When it arrived it looked very watery and not a good soup consistency but that never took away from the flavour. It was exceptional. This was followed by roast of the day. A reasonable size portion and again very tasty. We finished with sticky toffee and creme brûlée, yum yum. Both desserts were sublime. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and also advisable to book a table especially at weekends. Can’t wait to visit again

Local to us, but we'd rather drive straight past and give it a miss. Visited twice now, and put our first lacklustre experience down to an off day. Mistake. Staff are nice enough, but not exactly what you'd call attentive. Menu is limited, repetitive, and unimaginative. Restaurant area is unpleasantly chilly, seats are very uncomfortable, and the varnish on the tables is actually sticky to the touch. We'll not be returning I'm afraid

4 of us, 2 couples, all very happy with their food. I has curries carrot soup that was perfect. The venison bourgignon was fabulous, the venison was entirely gristle free and as tender as could be without being dry which can be tricky with bambi. The whole even was a success and the price was very reasonable for food that could be getting rosettes and awards. Many thanks to the excellent Eden and his lovely staff for such great service.

Had dinner at Sinclairs Kitchen last Saturday evening. Located just outside of Forfar, roughly 3 miles from the centre of the town adjacent to the small but perfectly formed Foresterseat Caravan park & glamping. Bar area was busy but restaurant area not so much. We were quickly seated and specials board outlined. We ordered a bottle of wine and some water for the table. I decided on one of the special starters of Scallops with Black Pudding with a Parsnip puree & Parma Ham. Cqnnot fault the cooking on any of elements and the flavours complemented each other perfectly, scallops were perfect and the parnsip puree was velvety smooth. From a presentation aspect, the black pudding may have been better crumbled onto the dish rather than two semi circles but that's a very minor point. For mains, my partner opted for the Venison Loin, Boulangere Potatoes, Glazed Carrots and a Truffle Jus, hardly surprising as she tends to gravitate towards anything that says truffle in the description. I chose the Chicken Supreme, Clapshot, Buttered Spinach and Haggis Bon Bon with a Chicken Jus, both dishes from the main menu. Both dishes arrived perfectly executed and presented, the venison was beautifully cooked and tender and the level of truffle in the jus was perfect. Cooking a chicken supreme perfectly and not drying it out is a skill in itself and mine was beautifully moist and flavourful, the haggis bon bon was perfect! For dessert, my partner chose the Tirami-Choux from the main menu and I opted for the Glazed Custard Tart with Raspberry Sorbet from the specials menu. Neither dessert could be faulted and rounded off a fantastic meal. I've seen some previous reviews regarding the speed of service and attitude of some of the staff but the pace of service was absolutely perfect for us every member of staff we encountered was polite, cheerful and engaging. The interior of both the bar and restaurant are tastefully decorated and have a lovely relaxed atmosphere. There is also a small shop area at the entrance which is worth a look. There is also a covered outdoor area for when the weather is a wee bit warmer. Our bill for both of us came to £94 but when you take into account that over a third of that was a bottle of wine, and our food choices were towards the more expensive end of the menus, absolutely worth every penny. A main menu is offered, alongside a weekly set lunch menu which is very good value. In addition, there is a steak night every Thursday night and a Beer & a Burger night every Friday. There is also a Sunday Lunch menu served every week alongside the main and specials menus. There is also a vegan/vegetarian menu offered. It certainly won't be our last visit and a visit here is highly recommended. Looking forward to our next visit.

The food served here is delicious. The restaurant is in lovely countryside location and there's a fab new shop stocked with local delicacies and gin.We had a few hiccups to start with but the quality of the food far outweighed the problems. Our table was booked in the bar area and we had an email confirmation but when we arrived they did not have our booking.Fortunately they managed to sit us in the restaurant area which was a little chilly. Drinks were ordered but took a while to arrive.Just a few hiccups but when the food arrived, each course was absolutely delicious, and the whole party were happy with their choices. We'll definitely be back and hope the small problems will not be evident next time.

The restaurant and exterior were wonderful very clean and well presented. The menu read well and looked like a good night was going to be had The starters were lovely my husband had assorted artisan bread with oils and balsamic vinegar and he raved about it. I had ordered the pate and it too was lovely so we were really looking forward to the main event. While we were waiting my husband ordered a bottle of Malbec which arrived and just as he opened the bottle realised we had been given Merlot too late to send back ( £23 )It was nice but not what we ordered Mains arrived my husband had the Steak at £22 a bit grissly has eaten better from Aldi's.I had the the roast belly pork that was nice but the potato rosti was not so the mains did not live up to the standard of the starters fallin all very disappointed final bill approx £93 a lot of money for what average food

This is a totally unexpected gem in the countryside, on the road from Forfar to Arbroath. It is approached by a slightly daunting narrow single track lane up behind a camp site - which feels a little worrying on first approach. However, once there, there is a medium sized interior space and relatively large outdoor covered (and protected from the wilds of the Scottish Weather). The staff are friendly and helpful, giving a wonderful and relaxed atmosphere, despite the Covid precautions. We opted for the roast diner, which was promptly served, and was even better than it looked.Amazed by the roast, which was more like a thick steak, plus the Yorkshire’s were large. Even the veg were excellent, with some of the most delicious carrots (I kid you not - as a true Meat eater) I have ever tasted.Yes, a place to visit, especially if you value a relaxed comfortable eatery.

Visited Sinclairs for an evening meal during the Eat out to help out scheme. We’ve dined here many times before and always had a lovely meal with great service, however our last experience was a different story. Salmon and prawn Marie rose starter was mediocre to say the least, and the burger mains served with frozen chips, not much better. We were told we might have a bit of a wait as they were busy, but obviously greed has surpassed customer service and the amount of time we waited for both our starter and main dish was unacceptable. Luckily with the government scheme we had the discount, otherwise one could call it daylight robbery. My friend sent a private message for a bit of feedback, rather than give a bad review but basically was called a liar regarding the obvious frozen chips masquerading as hand cut chunky chips and the fact that nobody else has complained before so that must make it ok! Bitterly disappointed and will definitely never be back. Will give my custom to other restaurants who are not driven by greed.

I can’t fault the food, which was excellent. I highly recommend the haggis fitters as a starter and BBQ ribs as a main. I thoroughly enjoyed both. The service, however, requires improvement. It was simply too slow. The main issue seemed to be in the kitchen - not sure if they were short staffed in there. It took 45 minutes from sitting down to get our starters and in total we spent 2 hours and 20 minutes in the restaurant for only a 2 course meal for 3 people, which we did receive an apology for. It was a shame about the slow service as this would have otherwise been an excellent meal. Would come back again in the hope that this was a one off.

We were really looking forward to lunch at this local restaurant especially as their 'sister' restaurant is so good but it was really poor.No butter for the bread with the soup so I asked....twice...for some, almost finished the soup by the time it came.We then waited 40 minutes from them taking away the soup bowl to the mains being served. Mediocre burger and 1 very small grilled sardine on a great big piece of bread that was neither toasted or sour dough as described.Wouldn't recommend or return. No Track & Trace info requested either !

We could have not been welcomed more warmly, we were seated and looked after by a fabulous waitress, who was attentive and helpful. We had 2 courses each from the set menu. I had the soup (wow curried sweet potato- amazing!!) then the main course was one of my favourite dishes, served even better than I could have asked - bubbling hot and creamy macaroni cheese, with salad and chips. We had such a lovely night and everything was extremely competitively priced. Would certainly recommend this restaurant again.

We've been to Sinclair's kitchen two times previously to this visit where we had been very happy with our meal. We had friends up visiting so we thought taking them to Sinclair's would be a sure thing...we were wrong. The starter special of pork croquettes were terrible. So bland, no taste at all and the croquettes seemed undercooked. Not sure how you can make pork tasteless but they managed it. Next was the pork chop which was ok but nothing special however, the mashed potato was terrible! A cross between SMASH and flour...weird. chocolate torte at the end was pretty good though. Two people in the party said their food was "fine" but nothing up to the standard we had previously. Also, the waitress who served us didn't crack a smile once and seemed like we were an inconvenience to her night. We had to call her back to order more drinks and after one person asked she would start walking away again! Never asked if we wanted more drinks ever, we always had to prompt. Not a great experience this time I'm afraid and probably won't be back anytime soon now.

At the suggestion of our Airbnb host, we went to Sinclair's Kitchen outside Forfar (actually, it was less than 10 minutes drive from our place). Last year (2018), Sinclair's Kitchen was crowned overall Scottish champion in the "Eat Game Awards" for culinary achievements in the cooking of game meats. And it was awesome - my wife had the potted salmon and I had the wild wood pigeon (complete with a shot pellet!) with black pudding croquettes, for starters; we both had the seared venison loin, with truffle oil and herb mash and greens, for mains; and My wife had a whisky and heather panna cotta for dessert. First visit under new ownership. Spacious premises, friendly, helpful staff, smart service and wide variety of choice. Set lunch menu, bar menu and specials all available. Well sign posted on main road but be careful not to turn off into the caravan park.

This restaurant is based next to a caravan site and is an absolute gem. We had heard over the local grapevine that they had a steak night on a Tuesday which was very good value for money. We being husband and I had been to the pictures and thought we would, it being Tuesday that we would check it out. When we arrived at the restaurant, before we went in we could smell chargrilled food enough to make your mouth water. The chefs choice of steak for the evening was ribeye and was the best steak we have ever tasted. Well Done Scott Brother's! This is definitely worth a visit.

By repute and a fair bit of mouth to mouth we encountered locally, we decided, on Sunday past, to give this relatively new venture the benefit of our far from humble critique. What used to be Forrester's Seat, Sinclair's is bit off the beaten track but no' too far oota Farfar. We got there just before the seven p.m. dead-line to have their Special Sunday Roast platter, but the waitress was gracious in her greetings and very helpful throughout. As to the food, it turned out to be a modern twist on the traditional roast in that it was set tower-like and, it must be said, nicely cheffed, temptingly presented. We asked for a few more potatoes and additional gravy and they came quickly. All for the princely sum of twelve quid a head ... this was true value for money and satisfied our every need. The place had been very busy that day, all day, so we gathered, ... and the staff had coped well. Ample car parking, nice country decor and good food looks as though that should be three pertinent reasons why this friendly restaurant will do well.

I don't give 4 stars often but Sinclair's thoroughly deserved it. We had been here in the past when it was open in other guises but, without doubt, this is the best!

Visited here for a change and were not disappointed. The location is lovely - quiet with seating outside and a small playpark to entertain wee ones. The menu was short but varied and there were specials too. We were a party of 7 and had soup and the trout for starters and chicken, fish and chips and steak for main. This was followed by profiteroles, sorbet and white chocolate mouse. The food was excellent and although they were short staffed, the service was friendly and efficient. We are delighted to have found this place and will definitely be back. Our only gripes (small ones) would be to start serving food at 1700 (for families with very young children), include cheese/biscuits as an option for 3rd course and please put child’s food on cold (not piping hot) plate. Everything else was great though hence the 5 stars. Highly recommended - think this place will become a regular for us now.

We would highly recommend Sinclairs Kitchen as well as their sister restaurant, Sinclairs Larder. Menu is fantastic and the sort of menu you would expect or would want from a Scottish Restaurant. Anything including Venison to Pheasant. Most produce, etc., are sourced locally. We have visited many times and look forward to our next visit.

I had pork shoulder and black pudding. It was ok but there was a bitter taste from something. My dad had the mushroom and dill soup and he loved it. Main course was Sunday pork loin roast which we all had. When you have a Sunday roast you need roasties. No we had potato terrine. The gravy oh sorry sauce it was very strong and bitter and my dads was swimming in it. My mum was happy because she can’t taste much. The profiteroles were sold to us as with salted caramel but when they came there was a drizzle. Couldn’t real taste it. It wasn’t bad but I have had much better. Don’t mess with Sunday dinner!!!!

This was our 4th visit to Sinclairs and I couldn’t fault it. There is an excellent choice of food on the menu including mussels, duck, venison, beef and lamb. Alright it’s not Kitchens or Wisharts but the food is excellent, prices mid range and you won’t have to drive to Edinburgh to enjoy well cooked local produce. We will most certainly return and would recommend it without hesitation to anyone.

Was at steak night which was an 8oz rump steak with a choice of peppercorn sauce or garlic butter. The steak came with a Portobello mushroom, half a tomato, wedges and 2 onion rings. When it came the steak was luke warm as was the rest of the food, most of my steak was just fat and to top it all I had a hair in mine. The waitress didn"t once ask if we were enjoying our meal throughout but by the amount left on the plate she obviously knew. Will definitely not be back and wouldn"t recommend it.

The actual food and it's preparation for all courses for each one of us was delicious. The wife's vegetarian option main was smaller than my starter though !! Big problem with service. Both the waitresses were spot on and friendly. The waiter ,young lad seemed to be in awful hurry. He advised that no drinks list and with that we forgot to ask to see wine list but ordered from waitress on her return.Waiter also seemingly gobsmacked that I might like a glass with bottle of beer.On return with glass ,the glass was a tall short drink glass. In his haste had to almost look over my shoulder to order my main as he was off !Not one of those gripers Etc but our first experience there ,which was a special birthday ,and otherwise great ,shouldn't have been impacted by being challenged as to service.Perhaps some ,or 'RE training of the waiter might help him,the restaurants rep and the customers experience.

Having a Vegan wife can be quite a strain when eating out, especially on Steak Night. Now I try most vegan things but sometimes I tire. So when we booked and checked if Vegan was ok, we were assured it was. Soup starters were superb served with home made bread.

Out for lunch with friends. Our first and last visit. My friend had a genuine complaint about her meal which the manageress agreed with & said she wouldn't charge however later on came back & said chef had told her she had to charge. Asked to speak to chef twice but he wouldn't come out. Veg tossed in what tasted like marg. Pastry so tough couldnt cut through it & if you are going to serve mushroom pie then dont advertise is as steak pie!!! Attitude of manageress & chef was awful. From time to time, you can get a bad meal, thats life but the way they handled our complaint was shocking.

Went to Sinclair's for the first time for my birthday this week. It was their steak night all of us opted to go for the steak which was beautifully cooked with lovely home made chips and huge onion rings. Great value at only £12. Pudding was also good would recommend the sticky toffee pudding was delicious. We were served by a very friendly helpful waitress. All in all well worth the trip and would return.

We had the Hogmanay menu on the 31st priced at £55 per person. To sum it up in one word it was ‘amazing’. Each course was beautifully presented and the taste and flavours really hit the mark. I have fine dined in other establishments in Edinburgh and St Andrews and Sinclair’s Kitchen was as good if not better. My only regret is that I was so full from the previous courses I was unable to take advantage of the most bountiful cheese board I have ever seen. I wish the chefs and staff a prosperous year for 2018 and look forward to many other visits and sampling the rest of your menu. Please consider doing these fine divining menus throughout the year.

We won't be returning, there were just too many things that have put us off. Very unfriendly welcome, to being seated right next to the lift where hotel guests were coming in and out (yes, we should have said something, but there should never have been a table put there). As for the food, who thought it would be a good idea to smother the loaded fries in loads and loads of cheese sauce (was supposed to be cheese) that was the most awful thing to keep eating. As for the Townhouse salad, how can they even call it a salad and charge those prices. Was literally small portions spooned on the plate of what ever was in the fridge with chips and your chosen salad (my child is far more creative with food). Then there's the scampi, where they put the chips and the barely cooked bullet peas in separate dishes, but all it did was make it look like very little and certainly wasn't worth the money paid. My teenaged child ordered a reduced portion as they wanted to get a pudding. However, they were so disappointed in their meal where a lot of it was left and they were then never going to order anything else. It costs a lot of money going out for a meal and we will happily pay a bit more if we know we're going to enjoy our meal. The Townhouse was a huge disappointment, not recommended.

Never have we been to a hotel with such friendly welcoming staff. Everyone we met showed us the greatest hospitality. Nothing was too much trouble. We ate in the restaurant on both nights of our stay and enjoyed the food and again the friendly attitude of the staff. Breakfast was varied with a choice of hot dishes including Arbroath smokies. Our room was spacious and warm with a view over the green. We will certainly return if we visit Montrose again. The birdwatching was good too!
