Great service, Great food, fresh authentic ingredients, this place is a little Gem, Red Curry and coconut rice a must, the chicken satay and spring rolls were amazingly tasty

BEST THAI! We gambled with this takeaway and what a winner! If you love Thai then definitely a must! Even the deliver roo guy was lovely! Fresh ingredients and delicious taste!

We got 3 starters and 4 mains to take away. All were really big portions and well worth the 45 min wait and the £70. If you love genuine Thai food (not Chinese chefs making Thai food) then you'll love this place. They also have a little shop within their takeaway too. Give them a try, you won't be disappointed. If we're ever in Barnstaple again, we'll definitely come again.

This is a little gem hidden away off the High Street, but well worth hunting for. The food is always excellent, and totally Thai. The supermarket is an Aladdin's cave with ingredients for all types of Asian cooking. Was delighted to find all the familiar brands of fish sauce and oyster sauce, and also Japanese mochi. Fresh ingredients also. Excellent store.

I've been fortunate enough to visit a Thailand twice and have never been able to find Thai food that has that authentic taste but this place nails it. I cannot wait for you guys to reopen. I need my Tom Yum Soup fix soon!!

Such brilliant food, we loved the chicken penang and the salt and pepper ribs. Really delicious, best food we've eaten in a long while!

Collected our meal from Silvertree. Food was piping hot and well packaged. Starter of Salt and Pepper Spare ribs very tasty. Panang chicken was gorgeous and a good sized portion. Good value and excellent food

I ordered a takeaway, I must admit everything I ordered was spot on, I especially loved the edamame beans and tofu, the green curry was equally as good . I'll definitely be coming back again.

Never let down by Silver Tree - so glad they’re still delivering during lockdown and they never let us down. Food is so so good!! We tried new things for us tonight- the duck and tamarind and Panang chicken- WOW best Thai food we’ve ever had outside of London. Had a great takeaway from this lovely Thai restaurant. With every restaurant shut due to the Covid 19 we decided to try somewhere different and was mightily pleased we did. Delicious food and will definitely be visiting when this has all blown over here

Was in the area for the weekend and needed somewhere for Friday night dinner. My husband and I fancied Thai and the restaurant had good reviews so we gave it a go. Arrived at 7.30pm and were the only ones there, it got busier as the meal progressed. Portions were large, we filled up on the thai crackers and the ducks spring roll which were lovely so we’re pretty full when our mains arrived. I had the panang chicken with coconut rice and my husband has the pad Thai - both were lovely! Service was great throughout. Cost us £45 for two beers each, plus starters and mains so good value. Only issue was the restaurant was feeezing! We had to ask for the heater to be moved to warm us up we were so cold.

We like to visit the Silver Tree on a fairly frequent basis and this visit was no different, the food was absolutely amazing, big portions and well cooked. The sharing platter was one of the best we have had in a very long time. The tamarind duck was incredible and wow, the coconut rice, amazing.

If you like authentic Thai food hot then this is the place to go great Tom yum and a very Fragrant green curry get your backsides down here !!

Visited here for a birthday on an evening in early September. Unfortunately no other patrons. Nonetheless warm welcome, good choice of food and wines and speedy service. Moderate price. Deserves more support than it seems to get.

My wife and I had dinner here on 19th October. We chose the Silvertree as we are BIG fans of Thai food.. WE WEREN'T DISAPPOINTED. !!Lovely starting platter for 2 including BBQ ribs, duck rolls and dips.. I had the Jungle Curry which was HOT and my wife had Beef Rendang which wasnt spicy but very tasty.. All washed down with prosecco..I would definitely recommend if you're a fan of Thai but would suggest you steer clear of the gin and tonic (not good)

We had a great meal here. Service was good - quick but unobtrusive. Mixed starter really tasty and mains excellent. We had a good prawn Pad Thai and a lovely chicken curry. We’d definitely come back.

On holiday in the area and found this place as we live thai food.Really wonderful fresh fragrant food in a lovely relaxed atmosphere. 9We had the papaya salad, which was amazing ,followed by vegetable and prawn stir fry dishes with steamed rice .both dishes were delicious and full of flavour .the service was friendly and efficient. Plenty of choice on the menu for all tastes and dietry requirements. Highly recommended.

Utterly awful!Usually go to the Torridge inn for our Thai curry but they are away.Tried the above and it was disgusting! Watery, hot! And the chicken tasted like cardboard ... £60 down the drain the best bit was the rice!

Visited this restaurant with 11 of my family members. We were vegetarian. I had pre booked this place. Whatever item we ordered that was available was really yummy. Adults and the kids enjoyed the food.

We stumbled upon this restaurant online and were impressed with the vegan options available. When we visited, the staff were very helpful at informing us what we could have from the menu and the food was excellent. Would definitely recommend.

Very interesting and extensive menu, good wine list too. The atmosphere is very serene and relaxing. The staff were very helpful and went out of their way to ensure allergies were understood and catered for. I will definitely go back and I look forward to it.

Had been looking forward to eating here for some time but greatly disappointed.Appears to be understaffed but food deliveries were going out all the time,while many were waiting to be served at the tables.We ordered the set menu which was a lovely starter,very tasty but after that the soup was bland and the main course inedible.It was over two hours from our arrival before the main course was served.We were warned about our dinner plates being hot but they were stone cold by the time we were served half hour later.The vegetables were hard and the beef was tough,so we hardly touched it.Tried to explain to the woman I assume was the owner,whilst paying,that we couldnt eat the mains as it wasnt to our taste and she thought we meant too hot.She apologised about the long wait but I find it difficult to believe with so many deliveries going out of the door.

Our meal was missing two portions of rice and one mains, the mains weren't hot just warm although the missing portions of egg fried rice arrived hot. The waitress in all fairness was new to the job, but didn't appear to know anything about the menu or wines.

Sikver tree has always been one of my favourite restaurants in Barnstaple! The staff are lovely and very kind!

Our party of 8 had an excellent impromptu Thai meal, after our booking at "62 The Bank"(Don't go there!!) was ruined. The food is delicious and very authentic. The service was great and the atmosphere relaxed. All in all a great dining experience. Thank you

My wife, son and I visited the Silvertree this evening and were massively impressed by both the quality of the food and the service.

We entered somewhat nervously as the restaurant was empty at 9pm. However, we were very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. Six of us all had meals that we thought were excellent. Strongly recommended. Service was friendly and efficient.

Excellent value lunch here - prices have been creeping up at other Barnstaple restaurants recently. Fresh ingredients and friendly staff. Plenty of vegan options for my partner which pleased her. She had the stir-fried flat noodles with mock duck (soya derived) and I was transported back to the Far East by an authentic noodle soup with fishballs. Great to have quality and variety like this in Barnstaple.

Didn't smell that good when I stepped in. The lady was nice but did reach over me to give stuff to the person next to me when she could easily have walked two steps and given it to him with out doing that. She did that a couple of times. I don't think there were any vegetarian or vegan main meals that I could have had. I had to have green Thai curry made with shrimp paste. I asked if I could have it without but was told no. So I had that. It was not delicious. The veg did not seem fresh and had an over cooked feel and no flavour. One or two bits of veg were actually not very nice. Alot of money for a disappointing evening.

Five of us visited for a team lunch and had a wonderful experience. The food is fantastic and the service extremely friendly. We were served quickly so could easily fit our lunch into the available hour we had. Thoroughly recommended

Well above average Thai food at realistic prices. Friendly, spacious restaurant with welcoming atmosphere. Will certainly be returning and would not hesitate to recommend. Also has small shop at the back selling special Thai ingredients and foods.

The food here is fabulous. Our Tom Yum Ghai, Tom Young Guung and crispy wontons were delicious starters and the Pad Prid Khing, Pad Thai Gai and Pad Ka Prow were absolutely yummy. We were all delighted with everything, especially after a less than excellent Thai experience in Braunton. Service is not speedy but at least you know that they are cooking your meal for you. And we got to take our really funky Lucky Buddha beer bottles home with us! Totally recommend and wish we had found it earlier in our holiday.

What can I say? The food was great, the atmosphere friendly and welcoming, the prices reasonable - this was a great way to end a lovely July day. The restaurant is spacious, the seating comfortable, and our server was delightful - attentive, but non-interfering. Oh, and plenty of choice for us fussy vegetarians. I especially enjoyed the "mock duck" made with seitan. Highly recommended!

Excellent Thai food in a beautifully furnished, spacious restaurant; welcoming, friendly service and delightful background music. It's just a shame that it's tucked away in a quiet street, but worth seeking out.

Stayed a few nights in Barnstaple so checked out TA for recommendations .... so glad we found Silver Tree as it was delicious. Took the precaution of booking as it was a Saturday. Had the set menu with sharing platter for starters, which was delicious (I didn’t think I liked satay but I do now!!)

Silver Tree is the best for Thai food, we were celebrating our anniversary, so where better to go than Silver Tree restaurant. I like my food a bit hotter, which they are more than happy to do, just ask!

We was not disappointed with the quality and quantity of food. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The menu is extensive offering all of the classic Thai dishes. They highlighted that the currys will often contain shrimp paste so to ask which are suitable for vegetarians. Vegan dishes also offered. They offered chicken and duck substitute as well as the normal tofu and vegetables alongside normal meat dishes. Everything was fresh and cooked to perfection. The sauces were delicious, our plates were left clean. If we lived locally this would be our new favourite.

I'm not really a fan of Thai food....

We knew nothing a out this place other than we were hungry and needed somewhere to eat. We both love Thai food but it is often too much veg and not enough meat. Not so here. Goldilocks portions, not too big or too small, but just right leaving you full but wanting more. Food tasted natural and fresh.

Tasty Thai food but the restaurant was very quiet. Ate here on a Tuesday evening and was greeted by a friendly waitress who gave us the menus and took our drinks order. Went for a mix of dishes, Thai red chicken curry, prawn green curry, crispy duck in tamarind sauce, vegetable noodles and coconut rice plus some prawn crackers. All really tasty and just the right amount. Service was good the only disappointment was that we were the only people in the restaurant so it lacked atmosphere, a real shame as it is a lovely restaurant. Will definitely try it again, hopefully on a busier night.

Visited with a large family group and everything was perfect. Great food and service was outstanding, even in a large group. Some of the best and most tender beef I've ever tasted!

Our friends offered to take us for dinner this week and there was really only one option that sprung to mind. Apart from the fact we love the food and service at the Silver Tree, because our friend suffers from multiple food allergies, we knew he would be safe as the food is all cooked fresh, they know exactly what is in each dish and will alter things to individual preferences.

Dinner for one at the Silver Tree on a Wednesday evening — lovely restaurant, attentive staff, food served promptly. There's a great range of dishes on the menu but I went for an old favourite, Pad Thai with chicken (also available with prawns). Absolutely delicious!...

Tuvimos un excelente almuerzo. Yo tenía un tofu con verduras. Mi marido tenía un pollo al curry rojo. La comida era deliciosa y agradable y sirve caliente.

Mi esposa y yo cenamos aquí recientemente y nos quedamos impresionados por lo bien que estaba la comida. El marisco era muy fresca y los platos auténticos, no estándar anglicised tailandesa. El chef solía trabajar en Busaba Eathai, y la comida es de calibre similar.

Los clientes nos están bastante regular aunque no había ido por un rato, y llamado por para el almuerzo la semana pasada y tenía el típico deliciosa comida.

Can't believe this is the first time I've eaten here, it definitely won't be the last! Service was impeccable, the food was not only very well priced, it was packed with flavour and just so so good.If you've not been then give it a go, you won't be disappointed! Can't wait to go back!

I have been here before and had stunning meals. Last night I went with a large group of family for a birthday meal. Wonderful service and amazing food. Could not have asked for anything more. Will definitely go back again. Cannot fault this friendly and loveky place.

We lived in Thailand so know what good Thai food is like. Usually in the UK Thai food is too anglicised but Silver Tree is an exception! Very enjoyable and authentic experience.

We were so disappointed with our visit here after seeing such good reviews. Service was chaotic and hurried. We were asked if we could order our starter even if we weren't ready to order main. Starters were ok but mains were more like Chinese than Thai. Noodles were soggy and looked as though they had been reheated . Veg were few and far between and both dishes were very salty. We felt that the table of very loud men next to us must be important regulars as staff were like bees round a honey pot with them . Needless to say we shall not return

This was the first time we ate here on friends recommendation and we wasn't disappointed, food was exceptional as were the staff, good choice of wines.

What a treat! We chose this restaurant to celebrate our first wedding anniversary as we took our honeymoon in Thailand. I wasn't expecting the food to be as good as it was to be honest. The tom yum soup was very spicy and very tasty. We went for the set menu for 2 as it had all that we wanted. They also had Singha lager on draught. We will go back!

I had dinner on a Friday night about 7pm and the restaurant was empty. I don't understand why as my meal was excellent. Freshly cooked and very tasty. I had vegetable rolls then Chicken Panang with steamed rice. Excellent, thoroughly recommend this restaurant.

My husband and I have dined here a few times now, on our own and with friends. Perfection every time. The waitress's are very helpful, knowing the full menu in detail. The vegetarian options are great and taste even better. We can't recommend this restaurant enough. Great tasting food, great service and we will be coming back again.

A great friendly restaurant with caring staff , who will guide you through the menu.Good choice of dishes, with generous portions , larger on tap was light and enjoyable.Very good quality meat used, ribs - meat falls off the bone , duck dishes not fatty.Highly recommend if you are a seasoned pro with Thai food or trying for the first time.

Thai food has many options, coming from the crossroads of SE Aisa, there are options to suit those travelling through. When I visited you could ask for changes to meet your taste, their hottest is VERY spicy, their flavour is very variable and so I learnt to ask for the options. The silver tree does a number of vegetarian options that do not appear on the menu. The level of spice can be adjusted, and be warned they mean hot when they say hot. Using real Thai ingredients makes this restaurant one to revisit.

When out for dinner you can some times be let down by the choice, but not this time. Great vegeterian food, with taste you can savior and choice to suit you. They should shout about their options more. The staff, polite and helpful, with a warm smile.

Our first visit to silver tree. The restaurant was very welcoming and clean. The menu was excellent even my fussy wife found several things to choice from. The food was great spicy but not too hot , generous portions. We would definitely visit again.

A real Thai Restaurant, run by Thais and serving great Thai dishes. There was space to relax and enjoy you food, not like some were you feel like a sardine in a tin. The atmosphere was Thai, with music you could chat over with out any effort. Staff made you feel welcome.

An evening visit allowed service to be quick and efficient, only a few tables being used. The menu, as a good restaurant should have, listed many dishes and choosing one was difficult. The starters list was pretty good, as well, but as is usual with many restaurants (and especially Thai), a little expensive. i opted for the Dim Sum & main of Rendang Curry which arrived in a bowl half full, accompanied by coconut rice. My initial reaction was that i would have a lot of rice left over. But it was deceiving there was plenty of beef and plenty of a delicious sauce. The coconut rice was relatively mild, i have had it almost straight out the coconut and was far too rich, but this was okay. Beer is a little steep for only a small bottle which ate into the budget meaning no dessert. At about £25 its a good meal.

Thank you to all the staff for yet another fantastic meal and my friend who had never been to a Thai restaurant before said he will be back on his next visit. This has to be the Jewel in the crown for Barnstaple restaurants. If you have been give it a try you will love it.

Enjoyed eating here tonight with my husband with food being excellent! We shared the mixed starter and the spare ribs were delicately flavoured all most enjoyable . I had the king prawn green Thai curry , freshly cooked with great spices . Husbands marinated sirloin steak cooked to perfection ;) thanks we will be returning .

We have been to this restaurant many times over the years and have always enjoyed their food. This time the place was a bit lacking, smaller portions, only so-so service and rather expensive for what you got (having to pay for prawn crackers is not a bright idea).

We noticed the Silver Tree while visiting Bsrnstaple on holiday. I would highly recommend. Really friendly and welcoming. Fantastic food very well presented and even a good selection of deserts. I will definitely go back and we have already recommended to our family who live nearby to try it out. Give it a go you won't be disappointed.

we visited this restaurant last week for a birthday meal, it was ok ish. one of the meals was too hot for my wife, but she ate it. brother in laws was too hot as well, even though he likes hot food. if you like fiery food give it a try!!

Went there yesterday(21/9/15) for my birthday. The food was excellent, i had the chicken and prawn toast which highly recommend, my mother had chicken satay and her partner had dim sum which were equally as good. The main courses were also excellent. Very pleasant surroundings and service was good as well. Only thing which let it down was that after the bill was paid the waitress realised some of the drinks werent on the bill which shouldnt have happened. Will definitely return again

I don't know if there was a problem in the kitchen, but after waiting 20minutes for drinks, another 30 to order food and then nearly an hour for it to arrive. We were not impressed. We were just about to leave when the waitress came to take order.Once the food arrived, it was delicious. The soup was the best one my husband had tasted for a long time. I'm afraid we won't be going back, though may order a takeaway. They seemed quicker.

This is a well located, authentically decorated Thai restaurant in Barnstaple centre. We shared 3 starters & 3 mains and couldn't fault any of it. Thai is my favourite cuisine and this is one of the best I've had - it was incredible quality food. All in all, including 4 drinks, it cost £60, so was good value in my mind (especially as one of the main was steak). It opens for lunch & dinner and has a lunch deal & pre theatre menu from 6-6:30pm. They do rake aways but don't deliver. I've eaten there several times since it opened under different ownership a few years ago and it has been 'up & down' in my opinion. I mention this as I think it reinforces my current high score & maybe explains some of the poorer reviews when it first opened under the new ownership.

I've been to many Thai restaurants in my time but this was excellent - delicate flavors and good quality ingredients. Slightly more than I would normally pay (£30 for a starter, seafood main course, noodles and a glass of wine), but worth every penny. Also singles friendly. If you are ever in Barnstaple, check them out.

Great authentic Thai good- dreadful directions from the staff unfortunately but finally found this hidden gem- lovely shared starters, red Thai chicken curry was spicy and fragrant. Great service too

Found this restaurant whilst looking for somewhere to eat in Barnstaple with our family. Beautifully decorated restaurant, and very friendly head of house. All the food we had was superb, husband said best Tom Yum Soup he has ever had, Chicken Penang was delicious and good reviews for the Thai green and red curries. We sat in the window, and everyone commented on an unpleasant smell - a little like bad drains.

What a wonderful evening and a fabulous way to end my birthday. The staff are excellent and so is the food. Always fresh colourful just as a good Thai meal should be. This restaurant is so under used, the only reason we can think of is because the building doesn't stand out in the lower half of Boutport Street. Just look and you will find The Silver Tree just down past Joy Street. Clearly the best Thai restaurant out side Thailand. Thank you for making my birthday so prefect.

We decided to come to our favourite Local restaurant for a birthday meal.A warm welcome from the host and attentive service.We started with the mixed Thai starter for two, which has to be the best I have ever experienced in a Thai restaurant, both for presentation and taste. Colourful, hot, fresh and very tasty. (Love the fresh Satay)For my main I experienced the "Goong Pad Ka Prow". Stir Fried Prawns, served with Fresh Chilli, Garlic, French beans and Thai Basil leaves. Again the presentation and visual impact is just stunning, the ingredients so fresh and colourful.A fairly spicy dish, with good heat from the chillis, but balanced perfectly with the basil and garlic and lovely plump juicy prawns.If you like good Thai food, prepared with fresh quality ingredients, you have to give the Silver Tree a visit.

we were here last week and had a very good meal. We had some shrimp crisps to nibble while we were waiting. i had a coconut rice with duck and bamboo shoots, beansprouts and mushrooms. The coconut rice wasn't very coconutty but the duck dish was delicious and very generous.The house wine was good and the staff lovely and friendly.

Formerly the Malee Thai, now under new management since last year: a Thai couple, the husband as head chef while the wife runs front of house. Comparing the menus (both are still online), they appear to have dropped the prices slightly and now offer a variety of very good value 5-course set menus which we ordered for our party of five, along with some dishes from their extensive a la carte menu. This resulted in quite a feast, with lots of tasty authentic flavours from various starters to soups, mains, dessert (ice-creams) and coffee. Service was friendly and attentive, without being overwhelming. We ordered a few bottles of house wine (again a wide choice there): quite drinkable Aussie shiraz and chardonnay. We lucked in, visiting on a quiet Tuesday evening - expect it will be a lot more busy at the weekends.Total about £30 per head for an absolute feast, including wine and before tip. To sum up: good value, excellent Thai food in pleasant, comfortable surroundings.

We were recommended to this authentic Thai Resturant when we stayed at Boreat Manor in Atherington, Devon. The food was most authentic and the service was superb. The cuisine was prepared by genuine Thai chefs which is the only way to eat authentic Thai food. We were amazed by the range of ingredients they use in their food a lot of which we have never heard of before. The whole evening was perfect and Boreat Manor arranged the booking with the resturant for us and also organised a taxi to and from Barnstaple to the Manor so we could all relax and enjoy a drink or two. This is a must for all Thai fans.

we have visited this restaurant a few times and enjoyed the food and the owners friendly attitude. We spent 4 years living in Thailand as a family and felt the food served at Silver tree was very good.

Usual fare for me. Satay skewers,red curry and sticky rice. I'm afraid because of my sensitivity to wheat I am a bit afraid of trying new things and this fare works for me. Also I am good with green curry and jasmine rice. Anyway, to cut a long story short I had my usual meal and enjoyed it very much without gut trouble. It is like my local Thai which is good. I have never had an outstanding Thai meal worthy of world class accolades so nothing else to compare it to I am afraid.

We used to go to the Mali Thai and were surprised that it had changed hands. Lunchtime today we ordered two traditional dishes with rice, but the chef advised the waitress that rice was not available! We re-ordered stir fry noodle dishes which were excellent, but like another couple (who walked out without ordering) we had looked forward to traditional Thai curry with rice! We won't risk a lunchtime visit again.

We loved our visit to the Silver Tree and will definitely go again. The flavours are simply divine. I had squid, my partner had steak and our daughter had duck. Just superb, we can't fault it and would highly recommend it.

Definitely upped their game...we have had mixed experiences with the previous management....but the new regime is very good..Most of the starters were home cooked as was all the main courses..Very authentic flavours..attentive service..BUT...The beer/ larger is stupid price...£7 a pint ..only available in small bottles..Shame really..Good news..Wetherspoon is a 2 minute walk up the street..We will go back...

Started off our meal with a shared Mixed starter. presentation is nothing short of stunning and it tasted divine.Followed this with Duck in Chilli and Thai basil with a portion of Coconut rice. Arrived steaming hot and again presentation was excellent. Coconut rice was perfectly cooked. My duck was prepared with obviously fresh ingredients, was full of flavour and spices.This restaurant deserves to do well, when they serve food to this standard. Will be back again
