Just been for my first meal in their new premises in the Rum Story (Lowther Street). Absolutely delicious smoked sausage pasta dish, good value too and more than I could eat but they were quite happy to give me a box so that I could take the rest home. Staff were all cheerful and helpful despite being extremely busy. The Rum story provides such a nice atmosphere too. Although we ate in the café itself, the courtyard is great for giving the feel of sitting outside without getting cold and wet.

Lovely friendly family run business. The cakes are exceptional, so much so we asked them to bake one for our Nieces 18th and it did not disappoint. You can go to Costa Coffee and pay much more for a cake that has not been baked on site and probably mass produced. Have some home made heart warming, tummy satisfying cake. Or try some of their traditional polish food, you will not be disappointed!

What a Joy this eatery is! Service was so friendly and more than happy to help and wasn't a long wait at all!.. The food is just lovely and a different approach to the usual unhealthy takeaways! We had Pierogi mixed fillings and what a yummy feast it was followed by the yummiest cake we've ever had! Raspberry Cloud !... The choice of cakes is just superb and all made fresh and the best we've had.. I want to shout it from the rooftops, but I'm scared everyone will turn up and eat the lot, so i think on here will be fine.. Well done for bringing the Joy back to Whitehaven !....

The very best place for cakes in Cumbria. Great choice, huge slices and thank goodness they aren't open every day as they are too good to resist! Have tried most of them .. favourites are the black forest, snickers, coffee and walnut and papal cake. The pierogi is also very tasty.

We’ve been to Silly Goose a few times now and the food has always been lovely. The mains are great - my favourite the pork pierogi - and the cakes are something special. I particularly enjoy the ones with meringue on top. The ladies are very friendly, my only wish is that it was open a bit later so I could have pierogi for dinner!

My favourite cake treat every week with amazing home made selection that has regular new ones to tempt you. I also have the traditional Polish speciality dishes which include bigos stew and pierogi dumplings.

Absolutely gorgeous home made cakes ❤️❤️. There is something for everyone. They aren’t little slices either! Everyone needs to go down & give these guys some love & support, oooooh & buy some cake too. Their food menu looks really delicious too, but haven’t tried any yet.

This is a great cake shop run by 2 lovely Polish ladies. These are the best cakes in cumbria, probably the North of England! A selection of 10 -12 cakes to choose from, some are wonderful traditional polish cakes also, the slices are always generous and good value. My favourite is the rum and prune cake. Their hot Polish food is very tasty too. I thoroughly recommend.

I came here with my guy on a Saturday afternoon. We'd seen it walking past a few times and thought the name was fun and we both like Polish food. It was lovely! We tried the pork perogies and the roast potatoes with Polish sausage and it was so tasty and flavourful! The perogies come in a batch of seven, so if you have a huge appetite you may want to get an additional plate (or try out one of their amazing desserts!) but the potatoes and sausage was a very generous portion with a side salad. It was the perfect amount for us to share. They have an amazing array of cakes and squares, and it's the only place I've seen pumpkin pie on the menu! (As a Canadian this was very exciting!) We opted to try the honey cake this time around as neither of us had tried it, and it was a lovely not overly sweet sort of square. I really recommend it, the staff are lovely and friendly, the place is cutely decorated and there is a couple tables for seating if you want to sit in. I look forward to going back on a chilly autumn day and trying the hunter's stew and ending it with a piece of pumpkin pie!

I am not into cakes, I came for the pierogi which were excellent. The zapiekanki were as good as you would have found on Marszałkowska in the early 90s.

We've been regular customers of Silly Goose since a friend mentioned it during lockdown. We live a half-hour drive away and try and time appointments in town to fit in with opening days and hours, and have had numerous different cakes and both types of veggie pierogies countless times – and every time they've been faultless. Particular favourites in our family are pineapple cake, apple cake, limoncello, strawberry, cappuccino, Matilda and Pani Walewska. Nothing I've tried in the county (or elsewhere) comes close in quality and taste. Thank you, Eva and Magda, for doing what you do – you're both amazing!

We stumbled across this lovely little cafe late on a Friday afternoon whilst looking for a decent coffee & cake shop in Whitehaven. We were not disappointed! Quite the contrary, delighted! We’re too late for hot Polish dumplings but it was quality food, great freshly ground coffee, amazing Polish salad and the Jennifer Anniston salad looked so inviting! The cakes were yummy, my husband had a traditional one, ( I can’t remember the name it was like apple cake). My cake was so nice, Limoncello lemon sponge. We both left with a home made ice cream in our hand! Such a treat ! Very creamy and loads of it stuffed into the cone. Served by two charming and friendly ladies, we shall certainly be back next time we visit! This time we shall be sure to visit at lunch time and tast some other cakes too. Thank you

I normally don't write reviews but after the lunch I had today at the Silly Goose I felt inclined to. The food was outstanding. I have been to the Silly Goose before and tried their exceptional freshly baked cakes (always excellent) and I have also tried their beetroot soup ( a first for me) which was also sublime. But today, however, I tackled their fried potatoes, smoked sausage and onions and it was something else. One of the best miles I have had and at £7.50 it was an absolute bargain. I advised the girls I would have been happy to pay more. The crust on the paprika flavoured potatoes was second to none and with the crispy smoked sausage and sauteed onions to compliment it was just sensational. The dish came with a nice freshly prepared salad which was also lovely. I also bought a piece of Snickers cake to share with my partner tomorrow and I have been dying to eat it all afternoon just by myself. The girls here are really nice and friendly also. You will not have a bad experience here.

Yes, the cakes are wonderful, with always at least one gluten free option, but the soups are also worth trying, and the pasta is lovely as well. Not to be missed.
