I went hear and had my doubts before I'd even collected the food . The premises are grim to say the least . Threw the lot in the bin after 2 mouth fulls. Definitely avoid this place

Took two hours for the owner to tell us that we can cancel our order if we don’t want to wait anymore. He put phone down on us. Very rude. Awful food. You shouldn’t have a 2 hour wait when it said 30 minutes

I ordered food (via Just-Eat) from the restaurant but never received it. Waited for lunch to arrive for over 2.5 hours but it never did. Will never order from this restaurant again. I asked for a refund and was told that the restaurant will not refund the money as the driver was stuck in traffic. Just Eat agreed to refund the amount on behalf of the restaurant.

My partner and I love this place, food is always spot on, friendly service and good value for money. We love the mixed starter platter but we've enjoyed everything we've tried so far.

Terrible customer service. I can’t comment on the food, but I kept calling to find out where my food was, as it was 90 minutes late, and most times no one even answered. The last conversation I had with someone I said I’d like to cancel and they hung up on me. Will never order here again.

I stumbled on this Chinese takeaway in crouch end north London. I’ve been looking for this type of old style Chinese food for ages, ever since my local one had closed down. The food was cooked to order, once the order was taken, you hear the woks go into action, a good sign of not being micro waved ! I can highly recommend this takeaway if you’ll looking for that style of delicious Chinese cooking. The plain noodles are a must.

I have lost track of the amount of time I wanted to order food from this restaurant and given up because I can’t get through via phone and they’re always “closed” on just eat. It’s a shame because the food is delicious but I physically cannot place an order for food here.

I had a revolting Chinese takeaway meal tonight, consisting of not very stuffed stuffed, steamed vegetable dumplings and, separately, slices roast duck with pineapple in an industrial-tasting red sauce of some kind, on top of duck feautring great slices of duck-fat attached and some loose pieces of fat. When the young man behind the counter was quite ready to look up to see that I was standing there waiting, he was perfectly pleasant. No written bill.

Very rude while initially ordering. 40 minutes later called just to ask how long it would be to which I got an extremely rude answer again. Another 20 minutes we call again - even ruder. The same man told us first the driver had been twice then that he was on his way, when we asked which we couldn’t get a straight answer. Eventually the food arrives - sweet and sour sauce missing. Will not be ordering here again.

Have been a regular Friday night customer since before it became the silk maker 20 years ago at least It used to be a burger take away Sometimes they get it not quite right But have never had a bad experience Happy cheerful staff and quick service Highly recommended

My local Chinese decided to close for a period of 5 weeks so they could go on holiday (the cheek!!) so decided to go and explore which others one there are out there. Found this place on one of the food sites such as just eat and hungry house etc. First time I ordered what I always order from my usual venue as did my family. Not impressed, taste was bland, curry was quite watery and the beef was drowning. However, remaining open minded, we decided to try again a few weeks later because every restaurant is different. Decided to go for a more simpler choice (noodles, chicken balls and the like) along with lots of little sisters. Much better this time but then this doesn't require much to be done with them. With the level of competition out there, this place I feel needs to step up or if they will soon lose out on custom.

Absolutely horrible service I received from them tonight. They forgot the drink I had placed with my order and I phoned them; they did not pick the phone up and I managed to send them a message through the website I had placed the order. A girl called Sophie phoned me telling me they could not bring me the coke because they were about to close and that at what time I would be there to collect it. I told her I lived in the same street (5 minutes walking!) but she refused to bring it to me and asked me to wait until next day at 1730 when they open. She also told me off because I had phoned her from an unidentified number!! I said I am a regular and I won't ever again place an order with them and she said: 'I don't care. And you can complaint if you want to'. I asked her why she was so rude and angry with me when it hadn't been my fault at all!!.

We've ordered takeaway from here a few times over the last couple of years so have tried quite a few dishes. It's just around the corner so delivery is usually pretty quick. Some dishes are ok, some are not ok. Nothing to write home about. Starters are probably the best dishes. Crispy duck is pretty good. Main dishes are a bit bland and remind me of Chinese food from my childhood in the 1980s. Overall the food is ok and pretty good value - and sometimes cheap Chinese can really it the spot. If that's what you're after then order from Silk Maker. If you're after something a bit classier or a bit more contemporary then I'd suggest you try elsewhere. Although I'm not sure where as I'm yet to find a really good Chinese in this part of North London.
