We have been going into this pub since June last year. Every time we have eaten there, and each time the food has been wonderful. All th staff has ade us feel welcome. So friendly, and the selection of cider hs been great . I would recommend booking a table on the Friday to Sunday. There's a house cat that walks around from time to time. But it's very friendly. I thoroughly recommend the ribs or the brisket

Always excellent food and very well chosen and kept ales. Sunday dinners are amazing. Wide range of cider, beer and spirits, something for everyone! Fantastic newly refurbished garden area with enclosed heated area for the winter. Everyone always goes over and above. Always an absolute pleasure to visit this 'proper' pub.

Sunday lunch tasty as always with enough gravy to swim in. The food here is great value and there is something for everyone with Sky Sports, a well stocked bar, great service and a roaring cosy log fire. Consistently excellent.

The atmosphere in The Shovel is great, I visit here with family and friends on Fridays and Sundays. The food is always fabulous, there’s a good selection of options on the menu, with very generous portions which are really good value for money. The covered garden area is lovely in Summer and Winter and there is a decent selection of ales and drinks for everyone. Don’t forget to try the shots at the end of your night out, there’s a very good time to be had and it’s easy to reach by bus or train (Lye station is a five minute walk). If you are lucky you will find a singer or band playing; check the Facebook page. Enjoy!!!

Was recommended by a friend to visit for Sunday lunch, we both ordered lunch with the trio of meat, pork beef and Turkey. The veg and Yorkshire pudding were ok but the meat and the gravy were inedible . Beef was dry and overcooked, Turkey didn’t taste of anything and the pork was awful. Can’t even begin to describe the mash. Very disappointed.

Always a pleasure to visit here. Feels like 'home'. Open fires, tv, food, ales, cosy outdoor seating. We've eaten here on several occasions. Always value for money and tasty, home-cooked food. A great selection of drinks always available. Comfy seating inside and the outside area is very pretty and well presented. A real gem of a pub!

Went for sunday lunch 5 feb after pre booking and ....wow ...what a lovely lunch. Beef pork or turkey or a combination at extra cost...boiled or mash potatoes large Yorkshire pud with 2 roasties...seperate veg which consisted of cabbage carrots peas cauliflower. Large jug of lovely gravy...oh and a stuffing ball. Beautiful dinner with a great atmosphere and a real fire. We will certainly be returning. £9.50 per person with one meat. Well worth it and i didnt have to cook. Thanks guys x

A nice pub, but tends to be full of sports bore's. The beer is also way over priced for a pub in this locale, shame really.

Cracking pub with a brilliant selection of ales/ciders etc. seriously a good drinking pub and nice place to be. Not made use of the food as yet to be honest but all looks amazing and reasonable (had a couple of freebies over time.)

Hired function room.. fantastic decorations.. room was well heated by gas standing fire.. Lovely buffet food came out very hot We had the live band organised ourselves Really great venue for our works Xmas get together.. Many thanks

Went there for my partners birthday all went for the Sunday roast which was absolutely beautiful. Home cooked, veg was extremely soft, mash was lovely as creamy and the gravy was very thick just how we all love it. Atmosphere was 2nd to none felt very very relaxed. Staff were incredible very welcoming and polite. I for sure will be revisiting and recommending to anyone and everyone that I can.

The proprietor Steve and the staff are always welcoming which reflects on the pub itself providing a warm and enjoyable experience. One in which yiu want to keep going back for more. The home cooked food is excellent and extremely tasty and you never have to wait too long for your meal arrive. We are now regular customers. 😀

We used to often go to this pub for a beer as this pub as it is one of our locals. since covid we have obviously not been as often. But since pubs have reopened this place has gone from strength to strength. The beer is always outstanding 👌 never had a bad pint. The choice of ales larger and cider means that no-one is left wanting.. Today we visited for Sunday lunch just on the off chance and having not booked. They could not do enough to accommodate us. The food was absolutely beautiful with a real homemade taste and feel to it. We will definitely be returning many more Sundays.

Havnt used the shovel for ages. Swung by last week for a few pints with the wife. Completely forgot how good of a pub it is (with great food also). Highly recommended for the best pint of ale in the area

Mexican menu has been considerably reduced. Other food options are now available as well as. Our friendship group went for the choice of Mexican food options but sadly it is not nearly as good as it used to be. Good beer choices and staff incredibly obliging and friendly.

Lovely, proper local cal pub. The new, renovated beer garden is lovely. Colourful, light and airy while also having plenty of cover in case of rain. Lots of TV screens, perfect for watching sports. Always a large, great selection of good quality ales and lagers available as well as pub standard lagers. The pub is operating very safely during Covid times. Can't wait to sample the food sometime!

Still the same fantastic quality of beer served here by pleasant, friendly staff. Extremely covid efficient if that's of concern to you and a really pleasant beer garden where you can actually kid yourself that you've escaped the insanity and are enjoying some Mediterranean / Greek hospitality. Well done Steve and team. Will be returning this Friday to sample the wonderful looking food.
