Shengs in Barrow-in-Furness

Ordered when they first opened and it took 2 hours to be delivered and what was eventually delivered was vile! Luke warm, tasteless and bland. We had 2 main dishes and several side dishes, one being salt and pepper chips. The chips were just sprinkled with salt and ground pepper!!!!! The black bean beef had never seen a black bean, it was just a gravy with beef and 2 bits of pepper! Not even good enough to feed the dog….will never use Shengs again and if you want a decent, proper Chinese, then I would stay clear of here!

Poor customer service. They kept me waiting on the line for way longer than 'a minute' (over 6 minutes - they'd obviously forgotten i was waiting) and hung up on me when I mentioned it. Fair enough. I will go elsewhere.

Ordered one take away meal at 5pm for delivery ,after returning from holiday. said will be out shortly. Rang at 6, 615, 630 645. Staff said was with the driver at 6pm . Eventually got meal 6.52 and stone cold. Shocking

A word of caution - when you order on their website you would be wise to thoroughly check your order (opening up the packages you are given) before leaving the takeaway. On two separate occasions some months apart what you order is NOT what you get. Little interest from the staff to put matters right. Personally I’d look elsewhere

I have ordered on a regular basis from Shengs over the years, unfortunately tonight we were very disappointed with the service. I rung at 6:42pm and was told it would take around an hour and 45 minutes for delivery, which I considered to be a long time but agreed reluctantly with the time scale. Unfortunately the actual delivery took almost 2 hours and 30 minutes which I find totally unacceptable. The food was good when it arrived but our evening was ruined because of the tardy service. As a result we will not be ordering from Shengs again

We ordered our takeaway through the Shengs website, very user friendly & we were able to specify a delivery time. Food arrived 20 minutes late & was cold, all dishes had to be re-heated in the microwave. The dishes were tasty but due to the late delivery & having to re-heat we won't be sadly rushing to place another order.

Very disappointed, everything was soggy , don’t think they had changed there oil for a while as every thing tasted fishy.

Placed a order for family meal bits missing ended up not eating together so my meal was cold disgusting and not worth eating by the time it turned up never go here again

Tried here again after not having been for a while, quick delivery, quoted 45min, came in 25. Hot and tasty, the curry was perhaps milder than we remember but the chips were probably the best from any Chinese takeaway. Large portions, thoroughly enjoyed it. I find the bad reviews hard to believe.

Sengs takeaway Barrow-in-Furness. Is the worst food i have teasted in a long time. Don't go there it is vile.

Don't bother. Only 2 in at a time. So waited patiently outside whilst the young couple ordered, sat and waited (unmasked) myself and wife went in unmasked (we have copd and bronchial asthma) We are regular customers (weekly) but usually phone order. We had no mask and was immediately ordered outside to wait where our food would be brought out. Waited approx 15mins when decided to query this. We were then told as we were not wearing masks we must wait outside and was told we had been asked politely to do so.... There was no polite request only an order from themselves. My wife felt extremely sad as everywhere else had accommodated us, we explained our health to no avail so asked for a refund. WOW!! Extremely rude staff and sorry but we won't be back.

Shengs was recommended to me by my Land lady, and I found the food excellent, called my order in and when we arrived to pick it up, it was ready. It was still hot when we got back and was very tasty. I recommend it!

Great variety of dishes, food is cooked to perfection and delivery is excellent. Their beef chow Mein is top notch

On 15/04/2019 I ordered steak and chips and other items. I got home and the chips were missing. I phoned - it was agreed there had been miscommunication. They agreed to send the chips out to me, and said it would be £1.90 for the chips. On arrival I was charged £4.50. I phoned, and was told it included a delivery charge (which she agreed she hadn't told me about.) So £15 for cold steak and warm chips, very disappointing and very poor customer service. They have lost a customer of 20 years plus. Shengs - please feel free to contact me to discuss if you wish, you have my number.

Don’t order the sweet and sour chicken balls, very uneven in size, small ones over cooked so were dry and hard, the bigger ones were ok but too much batter. Spent over £40 as a family, the chips are still very poor quality, last time they actually came out and gave us a refund on the chips, 12 months later it’s no better. You’ve ran out of lives with me now and I won’t ever order from there again. I really wish our usual spot hadn’t of gone on holiday.

I personally could have cooked the same meal I purchased for approx. £3. It would have tasted better, had a whole lot less onions in [without having to ask!!] and I wouldn't have had to wait 45 minutes for it either! WAY over-priced and over-rated. Not a patch on other Takeaways in Barrow! Go to Bath St, Marsh St or half a dozen others and get value for money, courteous service and a decent meal!

Having lived in Beijing I always look for good tasty Chinese food. This Chinese uses good quality authentic recipie. The food we ordered was excellent (fuu young, satay, sweet and sour) and the prices were very reaosnable. They also do smaller meals for smaller appetites - perfect size for our ten year old.

We had to try Shengs again having been customers for many years. Tonight’s meal was a considerable improvement on our last experience. Food was delivered hot and had more taste and better consistency than last time. We will let you off Shengs and have another go. I think the day of the week makes a difference, Tuesdays seem to be poorer.

This was a really nice chinese take away! Me and my colleague work away quiet alot and therefore try alot of different take aways. I have had some shabby takeaways while staying in this part of cumbria but this is a chinese well worth trying!Had the shengs special chow mein & the rainbow beef & char sui & chicken pancake rolls. Plenty of meat and cooked excellenty great texture, pancake rolls were exactly how they should be. The rainbow beef is a must try! My colleague had salt & pepper ribs & chicken curry, for a small eater normally he ate all the ribs as they were so nice & the curry was great! Good portion sizes, quick taking the order & no messing around. Nice friendly staff & brilliant service. Thanks shengs!

We have used Shengs for many years as it used to be our favourite Chinese in Barrow. We had not tried it for over a year but did so last Saturday. Good points: delivery quoted at one hour and it actually took slightly less, free prawn crackers were nice. The meals unfortunately were bad to mediocre, soggy chicken pieces in the salt and pepper chicken, the spare ribs were tough and chewy, mains were bland and tasteless with glutinous sauce. Decent portions but none of us finished the food as it was so poor. I am sorry but we won’t be using Shengs again.

We ordered a take away as a change from the Christmas food. Order taken promptly. Food delivered a little late though hot. Trouble was part of the order was missing, only noticed after paying the driver and giving a tip......... told to phone the shop!!!!! Phoned the shop and was eventually told they could send the rest in about half an hour..... we already had part of the order, why would we want to wait another half an hour for the rest? We had experienced this before ( though didn't review unfortunately) but thought we would give them another chance, big mistake. We absolutely wouldn't order again and would advise anyone else to think twice. There are plenty more equally good Chinese take always in the area. Advise avoid unless you want to waste money.

By far the best Chinese take away in Barrow in furness. Nothing in Ulverston or Dalton can match it either. The food was exceptional. I would highly recommend

My worst experience of Chinese takeaway food in Barrow ever. Waited 1 hour 30 for delivery, food cold dry and has to be microwaved and binned. Phone takeaway to complain to be informed they were sorry about that no customer service at all by the appalling by server. Stated she would inform chefs but that's all she could do, asked for a manager stated they have been away for 2 months, speaks for why they are producing such crap food and taking people's money.

Waited an hour and a half for delivery. Chips cold and soggy. Crispy beef resembled pork scratchings and smelt like fish? Rice dry and tasteless. Satay beef inedible. Phoned and complained offered a swap or money back. Simply not good enough.

After several years of using this place I've decided not to any more.

Salt and pepper chips barely warm. More pepper than anything else. Chicken balls very greasy. Will stick to the great wall in future.

I use Shengs quite often. It's a long established takeaway business in Barrow. There is an extensive menu to choose your meal from. I've never been dissatisfied with any of the meals from here. Probably the best in Barrow

Salt and pepper ribs warm and bland. Garlic and chilli pork not nice at all, pork was in a doughy batter. Try Lee's up the street instead. Shengs used to be the go to Chinese but nor any more it would seem.

One of Barrows first Chinese takeaways many years ago. It was also the most popular. There are now dozens of takeaways in Barrow but Shengs is still the very best. The menu is far more extensive than any other. I've never been disappointed either the food. First rate

I love anything curry from Shengs, always made fresh to order and quickly, the curry is like no other. Delivery is available and is quick, card payments by phone are accepted.

If I fancy a Chinese takeout it will always be shengs that I go to first. They are very popular and the service is second to none. There food is top notch and beats other places I have been to hands down. The portion size is huge and excellent value for money

Shengs used to be the place to go for Chinese food in barrow but over the last 2 years or so it has gone downhill with hit and miss food being served.

The food was very average. The flavours were a little weak, not enough punch in the salt and pepper chicken. Needed more garlic, more onion, more chilli and more salt! The beef in a generic spicy sauce was tasty but not spicy. The portion was very generous. Chips were warm and soggy. I wouldn't avoid the place but I wouldnt go out of my way to go back!

Had a couple of takeaways from Shengs lately and cannot fault the food and we live a few miles away and collect it by car.

Don't bother with this takeaway very disappointed with the chips, Warmed up from the day before and i know my chips.
