Shanghai City in Richmondshire

Probably my favourite Chinese of all time. The service is what made it, the guy behind the counter was thorough and kind, he ensured that the food would stay piping hot until we got home to eat it - and gave us some recommendations on his favourite dishes growing up. The food was delicious and there was plenty of it - I can't recommend this place enough.

What a lovely lovely man !! Asked instanly about any allergies and dietary. Food is amazing . Best chinese I normally don't eat Chinese but this place has changed my mind 🤩

Excellent Chinese takeaway. They look after regular customers. I can recommend the chicken & sweetcorn soup, prawn toasts, spare ribs, salt & pepper king prawns and the Mal’ad (may have spelt it wrong) sweet & spicy sauce. I’ve had both King Prawns & Chicken. They are always busy which shows how good they are. They wrap up containers to keep the food hot for longer which is great. Book early!!

Despite the very dedicated guy at the counter who runs about endlessly with order questions, the food is not good. Most dishes are in a gloopy brown sauce that doesn't even taste of anything. Far too many onions in each meal. Hardly any fresh veg. Old fried rice. There are much better takeaways to use. Don't recommend if you want a decent Chinese. But if you are after quantity then you might love it....

Food was amazing, portions were a great size and we got freebies thrown in too. My new favourite chinese by a country mile.

Got a takeaway from here yesterday evening. It was a bit of a wait for the food, as this place is so popular, but it's really worth it. Food is tasty & plentiful & we got freebie spicy chips & prawn crackers, despite it only being a small order. Will definitely be back!

Terrible shouty man told us to go away to another Chinese, shouting in the kitchen and rude to customers, busy and can’t handle to pace! Time for new staff!

Don't bother coming here, the place had just opened but we were told we would have to wait an hour for a small order or an hour and a half for a large order. What a total waste of time! Why don't you just say you are open at six?

Just had a lovely meal with a couple of extras added, was very nice and will go back when back in the area 5* service

Whilst staying in Richmond for the weekend we decided to look up a Chinese takeaway. The man so lovely and accommodating and the food was out of this world.

Absolutely exemplary service, so polite, food perfect. You should definitely try!

Food was amazing, massive portions and freebie treats is always a winner. Customer service was brilliant and not long to wait even on a Saturday night. Definitely my new Chinese now. Banging.

Fast and efficient in this always busy takeaway.

I never usually leave reviews but I though I'd make an exception. Man running the show knows his system considering just how busy the place is. The long waits are worth it, good food, good portions and the food is always on time. Cash only is whatever as there are x3 ATMs in 100m. Isn't afraid to throw extra chips or spring rolls onto your order. Efficient, tasty and affordable.

By far the best Chinese takeaway in the area! Big portions, reasonably priced, tastes fantastic, great guy running the place who always gets to know his regulars and who wouldn't say no to 10 free extra mini spring rolls with the majority of orders.

Easily the best Chinese takeaway. Gorgeous food everytime, we went here weekly for a Chinese. Huge portions, not greasy and generally just incredible!

First visit to this Chinese as we were staying at a nearby caravan site. The food quality and service was excellent. The portion sizes were enormous. We would definitely recommend it to anyone.

Called up and the very first thing i was asked was 'are there any allergies' not even hello, i advised that i have a gluten allergy and the man abruptly told me they wouldnt serve me and hung up the phone, upsetting isnt even the word to be spoken to that way when it's something out of my control.

Spending 4 days in beautiful Richmond, North Yorkshire and decided to treat ourselves to a Chinese takeaway. Unfortunately, although the staff were lovely they appeared rushed with phone order after order which may be why food didn't live up to expectations of previous reviews we read before we ordered. We were given Spring roll and spicy chips as freebies but we found the food flavourless and very bland. Perhaps quality over quantity would be a better mantra. Extremely disappointed and most of the meals were wasted. Curry and sweet n sour sauce were coloured but poor in flavour. 2 prawns in whole of special fried rice with small thin pieces of chicken and fatty char sui. Haven't had a special fried rice with sliced carrots and chopped up baby sweetcorn included before and pieces of beef were a dull colour. Special chow mein had a gravy type sauce rather than chow mein sauce and again very disappointing and flavourless. A shame we chose this take away as an alternative to having a meal out because of rain but wish we'd persevered and went to a restaurant.

It was really busy when I came in which shows how popular the takeaway is! Really impressed with the customer service, the staff were really lovely and helpful and the food was amazing! I appreciate the staff working hard on a Saturday night getting through the orders as quick as they can!

I cook chicken or cha su pork in Satay Sauce at home so it’s always fun to try it while on holiday and it didn’t disappoint. The pork was lovely and tender and the sauce excellent. The pleasant surprise were some complimentary chips that were gently spiced with a (home made possibly) salt/five spice/paprika, I’m craving more as I write this. They where rushed off their feet at 5:45pm on Friday night so I advise ordering early and be prepared to collect possibly in about an hour. Your patience will be rewarded. Cash only.

We’ve been going here for years. No frills, standard Chinese fayre. Portions are plentiful and you usually get a little something extra. (Not he unwanted extras you get if you eat at Tandoori Shites) We’ve never had a bad meal. Staff always helpful on the phone and 90% of the time food is ready when they say. Particularly like the salt and pepper chicken and beef curry.

Great Chinese food at a reasonable price would strongly recommend this restaurant. The bbq spare ribs were delicious.

Possibly the best Chinese takeaway we have ever had. Better than many sit in restaurants. Tasty and properly hot, spicy dishes were spicy, salt and pepper chips were delicious too. Really friendly man on the phone who was just as friendly in the flesh. Thanks for making our evening in a proper treat. Jacky.

Very expensive and not very nice

Allergy sufferers beware, was refused service! A disgrace! Tried to order from the impressive menu, while holidaying in Richmond. When asked about any allergy requirements, I told them of my nut allergy. Rather than employing standard safe food prep procedures in order to ensure my food would be free of nuts, they flatly refused to serve me. Disgraceful.

As a visitor to the area i looked for local chinese takeaway and thought i would try this one. Owner needs to go back to collage and learn good customer service. Ordered special chow mein and sweet and sour chicken.had 2 forks of each and it went straight in bin.will not be using these again

Me and my family have been going here for years and we can honestly say we think the food is absolutely brilliant. The portion sizes are fantastic and is certainly the best in the area. Glad to be regulars.

Will not be going back there! Noodles were gloopy Sauce could stand up on its own! No beansprouts in noodles & beansprouts. Just rang up to complain & was told ‘I look after my locals’ & phone was put down! Very poor!!

Me an my family have been going here for over 10 years now. Just absolutely love it. For me and everyone I know it is the best in the area. Fantastic food quality and portion size out does any other locally. Also free prawn crackers. Other places charge £2.00 as an extra. Superb food by superb people from a superb place. I wish I could eat from here every day.

I suppose we have a luxury at some point during lockdown This chinese was open and following guidelines Distance measures in place And also times to collect. Well done The staff put in extra for us which we found superbly generous The food was superbly cooked and the taste was great We understood that some items we unavailable We wanted crispy beef but they did not have enough So the suggestion was chicken It was a great change and tasted better might have this from now on Thank you for the great service Food was jus5 great I would also thank the nhs And all the workers for a great job they are doing

Food was really good. Nice and fresh king prawns used in their sweet and sour. Spring rolls very well done too, nice and crispy shell to them 👌. As for the staff, lovely and enthusiastic. They have a passion for their food and it shows. Highly recommend

Large portions, quick service and they even gave us a portion of chips for free ..... and those chips were amazing, better than chip shop chips!!!!This place is always busy so must be popular. It was OK. Popped in and ordered. Didn't have to wait too long, about 15mins. Wasn't amazed by the food though, ordered a starter and a main and tbh, the sauce tasted the same in both of them. Will go back as everyone recommends it so maybe I just ordered the wrong thing or chef was having an off day.

Waited 5 mins to be served then he said they were closed. Door was open and take away sign was on..

Always cautious of first visit, but having read the reviews, took a chance. We needed to have no fears. Absolutely top quality, prepared to order, meant a wait time of 15 minutes but time well spent. We normally order one meal to share, experience elsewhere has left us a little short on quantity, but not here. No hesitation in recommending this establishment.

Good food but really expensive,manager needs more staff as he gets busy and is pretty ignorant when you ring for a takeaway, he tells you when you can have it,rather tan you say when you want it.

Had a takeaway and ordered several dishes. Whilst the guy serving was a little hard to understand, was he abrupt or not? Hard to say, but food was worth it. Hot and sour soup, to die for! Worth trying

Having moved to Richmond we checked out the reviews before ordering, looking forward to a lovely meal you can understand my disappointment when I was given the most tasteless chow mien I have ever had, there was more been sprouts than noodles , 8 tasteless prawns and a sauce which I would only class as coloured water, unfortunately I will not be back

What kind of Chinese takeaway doesn’t do deliveries

We went for Saturday night meal to our local restaurant ordered a 2 course meal expected normal prawn crackers to arrive before starter never arrived had our starter then waited 45 mins for our main meal which never surfaced so asked for it to be turned into a takeaway then offered prawn crackers which we declined ,offered a free drink which again we declined but we're charged full price for our our take out meal very disappointing very young and inexperienced staff expected at least 10% discount

After living the area the best part of 14 months and not being impressed with the local takeaways, we found here! The food is great, the owner is very friendly, helpful and accommodating even when busy.

Just had a special fried rice - how hard is that? Utter filth, all rice and no content, nasty grey prawns that made me fear for my digestive system, totally tasteless and went straight in the bin. I'm still feeling queasy.

Food is good and we generally get Prawn Crackers on the house! We've been going for 10 years and never had a single bad meal. It is so popular you need to order early but it's well worth waiting for!

Probably the best Chinese I have ever been in, the owner is friendly and treats regulars like family. Food is amazing and there is so many options to choose from. I would recommend everything!
