went with my papa, this place is so cosy and just full of vibes; it was a little bit cold but the service was really good and the food came fast and tasted really good. the only thing i'd say is the pastry was a bit heavy but the rest of the food slapped so good, the meat and sauce was rich and delicious, we both had the steak pie 🥧

Very chilled out pub. Keep a good pint. Reasonable prices, staff friendly, great place

The food at the shakespeare is lovely and drinks even better! The experience made even better by the lovely staff who are always happy to help give their recommendations on the cask ales or are hosting their amazing pub quiz on wednesdays! Thanks Shakespeare team I will be back!

Lovely little old pub. It has 6 cask ales on at all times and not just the usual Greene King beers you'd expect, really good mix from across the country. The food was tasty and well presented, nice to have some options for vegans. Went for the quiz on Wednesday, absolutely awesome! We didn't win but it's about taking part...right???

Great pub Suggested by our grandson whose at uni & we had the evening free before flying out of Bristol Airport Food is excellent all prepared by Christina (we had an issue they had ran out of the item we had ordered and she came out and explained the situation great customer service) Staff were great ready to help and very friendly The reason for the missing star Interior needs some love & attention But we will be back next time we're up

Came here the other Thursday night for food and drinks with my work colleagues. We were originally sat out the back but not enough room for 5 of us so we moved to the front of the pub. The food was sooo good. We all really enjoyed it....nachos and halloumi to start with (absolutely divine!) Then we had burgers or the pie. Staff (ladies) were brilliant sorry I've forgotten your names. Prosecco was really good .... no Prosecco glasses though ie we had to drink out of wine glasses. Toilets not great but we were told they are being refurbished early next year. Whilst a chain pub it had lots of character and a great location. Would definitely go back. Thank you!

Came here with my partner for dinner. Staff was friendly, great selection of ales, a wide range of food with specials on the boards. Will definitely come agian

Super beautiful place. A unique atmosphere. It's good that they appreciate history and listed all the owners of the tenement house since the 18th century.

Came her as a group of 5. Food on par and good job we booked a table as it was busy. Excellent customer service. A special shout out to the lovely Lisa who kept us in laughs when putting in orders and food to table. Well done everyone 👏

I have been in a couple of times before and the service has always been good but recently went in and was served by Lisa and had the best service ever - so friendly and welcoming, she treated me and others like it was our local and she’d known us forever- absolutely the best customer service and I will be in more often because of her! Thank you so much for the beautiful service! 🤍

Absolute little gem... The atmosphere was buzzing, the staff chatty and friendly and the food was brilliant and good value for money. We went back the next day for the Sunday roast and wow it was amazing, even though we were at the end of service it was fresh, hot and the portions were huge.. wish they were nearer to my home 😌

Very nice bar but very noisy children

£8.15 for a pint of Shakespeare bitter and half a cider. The beer was OK, not great though, so definitely not good value. Lovely building, but there are so many better pubs around. The visit confirmed what I already thought about Greene King pubs. I wont be making that mistake again.

Went for a family meal today. First time we have been to this pub and chose it because of the reviews and location. A lovely pub serving great food. Friendly staff to. Will be my regular go to place when visiting Bristol.

Hadn't been in the Shakespeare for some years but popped in yesterday as it was my birthday. This is a proper pub with attentive staff and there's a good atmosphere. We didn't eat but glad to see it hasn't changed much over the years.

You know when you meet up with friends and look to each to find a pub to go to...well let me save you time and effort...go here!.. good beer, great location. Good place to watch the world go by..oh ..I saw a man cycling with a dog Sat in his back pack.. hilarious

Nice and very friendly staff, well prepared and tasty dishes, I highly recommend the Duck Hash dish.

Visited Saturday night, great fun- couple of large groups who were well behaved, I think this was down to the 3 staff behind the bar. Their joy and professionalism made the atmosphere fun in what is a proper boozer.

Amazing place to drink all the vodkas

Came in Saturday night with friends, nice to see a proper boozer alive and well. The three ladies behind the bar,I think Lisa Grace and Victoria ,were great fun and the laughter could be heard for miles.

I came in on a Monday night during bank holiday and came across Lisa and Grace who very polite, had a cheerful conversation with Lisa

Visited Saturday night with family. The staff were so friendly and were clearly knowledgeable about the products. Also knew exactly where to direct us for live music. A credit to the pub all three.

Came in looking for some food and a tasty pint of ale did what any good person would do and typed into Google a place that would suit my needs and low and behold this place popped up advertising itself as bristols oldest ale house and as me loving old historic things I decided to give it a shot and I shall say I wasn’t disappointed the guys and gals working the bar had great ale knowledge and recommended I should try a local Bristol beer factory ale milk stout which was a lovely dark ale and really compliment the meal I had of a scrummy beer and ale pie, my friends also enjoyed there drinks and food and we decided to spend/end our day there. 10/10 would recommend.

Came in tonight for a couple of pints with clients, what an experience. Both Tam and Lisa were great fun, her laugh is raucous. I will be telling everyone what a great pub this is, even though it’s haunted!!

Great staff great atmosphere and really tasty food

I visited last Friday night and had a brilliant experience, I couldn’t rate the bar staff more highly. They were welcoming and kind. I spent time at the bar talking to two bar staff particularly, they clearly had great knowledge of food and drink and spoke with real passion. Great asset to the pub!

Fantastic Fish and chips and really good service - highly recommended.

I had a few drinks with mates on Monday night service was amazing, specially a lady called Lisa her Energy and customer service was spot on.

Came in last Thursday and was surprised and delighted to see Lisa back behind the bar where she belongs. Her sunny disposition and excellent service can only be commended

Popped in last night for a meal whilst in the docks area. Great food, friendly helpful staff and a lovely atmosphere. Definitely recommend.

Lovely traditional pub, excellent selection of real ales, good pub grub. Had the best plate of fish n chips I've had in ages, washed down with a couple of excellent pints of Bristol Beer Factory Clear Canyon 5%.

Was looking for somewhere "traditional" to eat and found this place. It felt like a fairly typical English pub on entering and the staff who I spoke to were all lovely and friendly. However, the food was not great... I had the steak pie and chips, and while the food was edible and not unpleasant , I kinda expected something better, especially given how they were announcing outside "pub of the year 2022". The chips were obviously frozen from a bag, and the accompanying cabbage was ... Cabbage. The pie itself was tasty - great pie crust and thick oniony gravy - but only had two bits of steak in it! So, yeah, nice place, decent location, friendly staff, but poor food.

Very tasty food, quite pricey drinks but expected nowadays. Food was a little late but totally understandable as there was only 1 chef on call. We had the Beef and raclette special- absolutely fantastic really filled us up and was exactly the kind of nosh we were after.

Fish and chips is a bit too oily for my taste, burger is average, drink are okay though.

Without any hesitation, I give 5 stars for the quality of the fish and chips as well as for the atmosphere and decor. It is the oldest brewery in the city. Very nice waitress too!

Don’t get to come back to my home-town much these days. But this is a gem if a pub just outside the hustle & bustle of the city centre. Reasonably priced. Fantastic food.

A nice clean and tidy pub. On the quieter side of harbourside. A nice outside seating area with pretty tulips where you can watch the world go by.

Large pub, good range of ales and spirits

Nick is a jovial host who pours a great pint of ale. Pub is cosy and a great group of what seemed to be regulars were in having a high old time.

Old times, great times.... perfect pub in the city, awesome to visit again and reminisce after many years. Decent beer and cider selection, just the business. Hopefully back again one day...

I'm not often one to leave reviews, but the cosy atmosphere and gorgeous food was only outweighed by our server Tamlin who went above and beyond to make sure our experience was special - a big thank you!

Such a lovely welcome and nice atmosphere but the food was a real disappointment 3 of us ordered the toasted sandwich it was a sauce with hardly any cheese very bland and greasy , we wanted to complain but the young man serving was busy and we didn’t feel we could interrupt him , nice pub nice service terrible toastie and would be reluctant to return for food.

Good old fashioned boozer...really friendly atmos

Avoid roast dinner at all costs!! Not one positive thing to say. It was cold, meat was dry, roast potatoes were mouldy, yorkshire was flat and carrots had been microwaved to within an inch of their life. The worst roast dinner I have ever had! Felt sorry for the bar staff who had to deal with the complaints, as we weren't the only ones. He was very understanding and apologetic (did give us a refund), shame the kitchen let him down!! Will never eat there again! Note not even left 1* for the food as that would be too much!

Popped in for a few drinks was feeling pretty chilly as it was around zero outside . Was hoping for the woodburner inside to be on so I could warm up the pub was quite cold inside considering it was so cold outdoors thought staff would have lit it to make it cosier and more appealing to customers
