As the restaurant Italian restaurant I usually go to when in London (Zafferano) was fully booked, and as I was hoping have some more traditional Italian food (as opposed to the more modern cuisine they have at Murano) I booked to dine here, led to believe that it might be similar to Zafferano by the Michelin star that it was awarded. I was totally disappointed. The ambiance was nice and as some one else mentioned, all the staff appeared to be Italian. However, the food was very disappointing. I had their artichoke, pumpkin and broccoli salad (which I ordered in the hope that it would be similar to very delicious salads I had had at Zafferano). It turned out to be a plate consisting of a small piece of artichoke heart which had either been boiled to death and was tasteless (I have had better artichoke coming out of a bottle), two pieces of pumpkin which appeared also to have been boiled, a boiled piece of broccoli, some overcooked French beans, a piece of grilled fennel and some grilled chicory. There was no dressing and the whole plate was totally boring. The pasta dish (spaghetti with crab meat and chili) was better but nothing compared to the pasta dish with crab meat which I have had at Zafferano. As for the breade veal cutlet for the main course, it had been pounded very thin and was overcooked so much so that the meat was completely dried out.The wine list is also very disappointing. It was divided into two sections, the front section consisting of more ordinary wines and the back section consisting of expensive bottles like Gaja and super Tuscans and a few non-Italian wines. Most of the wines here were above £300 per bottle. In the front section, the wines were divided into sparkling, white and red wines. There was only one page of red wines (didn't pay attention to the whites) which were lumped together under red wines, obviously because the selection was so poor that they could not divide it into different regions. I recall that there was one Barolo, one Amarone, one Chianti Classico, a smattering of other Italian wines but not a single bottle of Barbaresco (one had to go to the expensive section at the back to find one) or Brunello del Montalcino. To sum up, a totally disappointing experience and I will definitely not be coming back.

Group of us went for evening meal on a freezing Friday night. Nice cosy atmosphere with some very attentive and amusing waiters that added to a relaxed informal atmosphere. Food wise , well ...I'm a veggie, so Italian restaurants usually cater for us types pretty well. Semplice was great too, with a very fresh and tasty artichoke and pumpkin salad and a burata ravioli to follow, which was perfectly cooked and although it looked like it was prepared with a lot of butter , wasn't as rich as I thought it was going to be. I think the desert was hazelnut sauce on chocolate cake, which tasted very ordinary for a Michelin star restaurant. Some nice 'textbook' Pinot Grigio throughout too. All in all, definitely one of the better Italian restaurants, but my expectations were higher because of the Michelin star. Perversely, If I had not known about it having the star, I would have thought it to be a great restaurant. As it is, still pretty good.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. Being vegan, they happily accomdated my requirements after consulting directly with the head chef. My partner ordered seafood and the waiter suggested a perfect wine to compliment both our meals. During this lunchtime service the food was delivered promtly, with both visual and aromatic appeal. This followed though with taste - the food was prepared simply, intentionally allowing the flavours of the meal to be enjoyed. The portions were also generous and overall the location, quality of food and service provided excellent value.

I'm always super honest when I write about the places I've been so I'll start saying that the manager in charge is an old friend and that I always go to see him when he ventures in new restaurants around the capital.Semplice is an Italian classy place located a 2-minute walk from Oxford Circus and recently got 1 Michelin star, totally deserved I'd add!I went there with my girlfriend and her parents, all of us in Catering, so it had to be good! From the starters we knew it was going to be though, nice, soft raw ham accompaigned by cheese and "pane carasau" sardinian typical flat, hard bread, followed by fried calamari, octopus (so tender you won't find it easily in most award-winning restaurants), tartare, scallops, all really top draw!Main courses were roast chicken, seabass, both simple but perfect and deliciuos while the star of the night were the lamb cutlets, totally, astonishingly great, tender, juicy and cooked to perfection. The whole dinner was also matched by the joy of a Pinot Noir from NZ which we loved! The place was packed and with a nice buzz, Umberto is a star in his role, entertaining all tables as they were all good old friends, service is good and smiley while the wine list is amazing!

Semplice has been our favourite Italian restaurant in London for a number of years now...we went for dinner there again last week and were very disappointed with the changes. We had not realised before booking that the management had changed but this was glaringly obvious from the moment we sat down. The usual staff were gone, replaced by staff whom we did not recognise and were not knowledgable about the menu at all. When we asked for the sommelier, we were given blank looks and there were hurried conversations between waiter and someone who appeared to be the 'manager', who then turned up to recommend his favourite wine - which would be fine if he was paying for it but not when we wanted advice on the wine list so we could select something we liked. As we were not able to elicit any more helpful advice, we ended up with his favourite wine, which sad to say is not going to be one of ours. The food was passable, but they have also changed the menu and the quality is nowhere the same as before. They have also taken out the rabbit and olive ragout pasta which was a specialty of the house before. As for dessert, we ordered the standard cheese board on the menu. The waiter who brought the cheeses plopped the board onto our table and disappeared without another word. We were confused about which cheese was what and flagged down a waiter to ask for more information. The waiter told that he thought one of the cheeses was probably parmesan and maybe the other could be taleggio but he wasn't too sure about the rest, 'sorry'! Pretty shocking for a michelin-starred restaurant, don't think they ought to be holding on to it for much longer. There are much better restaurants for that price in the area, we will not be going back!

We were a party of 4 and ordered some olives along with our starters. The olives were tiny cocktail olives and had no taste. We called over the manager who told us - in a very abrupt terms - that was all he had. But surely, we countered, as an Italian restuarant you must be able to source some tasty olives? But off he went never to appear at our table again! We had 2 good mains and 2 bad mains: the ravili filled with burrata was plain and lacked taste; the calves liver with sage was good quality and delicious; the fried sea food combo was the sort of dish you might find in a Harvester but the Salmon was superb. We sent back the tiramisu as we couldn't taste the brandy - another plain dish. The waiter came over and said this was how they make it in Milan then said that most English people like to eat it out of a glass with a wafer!!! What a comedian, eh? We then had to rubber neck to get the bill. Overall, we were disappointed.

We visited Ristorante Semplice on a Saturday evening - 21.15 table for four. The dining room is nicely lit and the decor is elegant. The staff are all Italian (or appear so) and everything here seems somewhat chaotic, for example - no wine list provided with the menus, we forgot to order sides as not prompted, so we asked about ordering some after the mains. The waiter took the order but when our mains arrived, no sides were forthcoming. They hadn't been out through to the kitchen, so were ordered again. They never did arrive. We ordered a bottle of dolcetto - the waiter returned a few minuted later and told us that the dolcetto would be too dry for our wives (who weren't even drinking) and we should have something else, namely a Sardinian carignano (since when was dolcetto drier than carignano?). Food was decent brasserie fair, nice scallops with saffron, the soup was fresh and tasty and the tuna tartare was generous in size and flavour. We went straight to secondi after the antipasti - two of the dishes we ordered weren't available (fair enough at 21.45) - lamb was well cooked, steak so-so, tagliatelle on the small side (ordered from primi menu). My veal Milanese was large and well seasoned but more of a Trattoria food and needed the spinach and potatoes we ordered but never received.Overall Semplice is a bit of a mixed bag - decent food, sloppy service, nice surroundings but nowhere near 1 Michelin Star quality in my opinion - there are so many great places to eat in Knightsbridge that you can do better than this for the same money, or pay less to get the same quality.Hope this was an off-night, but I won't be hurrying back to find out I'm afraid.Price (incl. service @12.5%) was c£250 for four people including three deserts, two glasses of Prosecco and sparkling water.

We have been dining in Semplice last week after the re-opening. Our experience was absolutely perfect. The manager welcome us and personally look after our table. We didn't expect this as we are not regular costumers, but him and his staff made us feel like old friends. We ordered some appetizers to share the vitello tonnato was absolutely delicate and juicy; the octopus salad tender and served at the perfect temperature. Our beef carpaccio as well was nice and thin, accompanied with rocket, fresh parmesan and a delicious sauce on top completing but not overcharging with flavors,Our main courses were absolutely delicious but not too heavy, lamb in herb crust and salmon....The manager suggest us couple of glasses matching our choices in an absolutely brilliant way.I would really suggest this restaurant, for the quality of the food and the atmosphere, Italian but very elegant as you would expect in a London Michelin starred restaurant.

We had an excellent tasting menu at this restaurant last year so eagerly snapped at a further promotional offer, only to find that when we went to have the meal that we had previously part paid for, the restaurant had closed. When we could get hold of the new proprietors, they were however very happy to honour the previous arrangement which was magnificent of them so we essentially ate half price. The best feature of the evening was undoubtedly the wine - my glass of Greco di Tufo Devon and my wife's Prosecco were of outstanding quality. The food sadly less so - my spaghetti with crab was especially disappointing and certainly tasted as if the crab had come out of a tin. The octopus first course was much nicer, and interestingly presented. We were however sufficiently unenamoured not to want to stay for puddings.Looking on the bright side, the restaurant had only just changed hands three weeks previously and clearly the staff were still shaking down - we witnessed one altercation which suggested that the scope for improvement is still significant. The place was pretty full too, so clearly others must like it.We shall look for improving reviews on Trip Advisor before returning.

We ate at this restaurant for the first and last time last night. The food was fine, but no more than average for this price bracket. However, the atmosphere and service were dreadful. It took them 25 minutes to take our order, despite the restaurant being no more than 1/3 full at that point. This set the tone for a lack of enthusiasm or attention from the staff for the rest of the meal. When the bill arrived I told them that I was reducing the service charge and they immediately put a line through the whole amount without even a quibble. They just don't care!

I have been to Semplice many times in the past and it has never disappointed. This last visit, however, was less than stellar. Upon arrival, the host had no record of our reservation, for which my husband had a confirmation email. That was not such a big issue, however, as the place wasn't full so there was no problem finding a table. I noted a strange smell though near our table, a kind of damp, musty smell. The food was tasty, though not nearly as good as it has been in the past, and the service was a bit forgetful. It was just a very average meal, not really memorable in terms of food or service. A real shame - this used to be our go-to place for great Italian food.

Nevertheless few things could be improved. We had a gazpacho with very soft flavour of tomato and way too much onion.Nice breasaola with goat cheese and basil. The quality of breasaola meat was not disappointing.Wonderful homemade spaghetti , no complaints about it.The lamb was way too salty. We had to leave it.As desert we received a really nice tiramisu, although i think there was a little too much coffee. We also received some handmade biscuits : cantucci, baci di dama and tartufo. Tartufo was definetely an orgasm of taste.Generally i think the restaurant is worth a visit, some dishes are terrific , other need improvement. The food is reasonable priced, considered is a star michelin, but the wine list is way too expensive, considered also there was no wine expert in assisting us in the choice.Service was very attentive. They definetly need to change the music. We ate from the a la carte menu and albeit at first glance I was not sure about some of the options we all had incredible meals. I had gnocchi with langoustine followed by monkfish and finished with their selection of cheeses and could not find a single fault. Furthermore my brother has been a fussy eater since childhood and even he raved about the rabbit and the chicken (it is no easy task finding a restaurant he likes) I am surprised by the negative reviews as the food was creative, tasty and well presented and I would not hesitate to recommend it.

My gauge for judging a restaurant with a Michelin star: If you don't really fancy the offerings on the set menu (because you can't afford the a la carte), but the flavours are so alive and out of this world that they just explode in deliciousness on your palate and you come away with a sense of awe.........I have experienced this in France and Belgium, unforgettable food. But apart from one or two tasty bits (the 3 prawns in the gnocchi starter were nicely cooked), the experience was very disappointing - the main courses a big let-down. The chicken had little flavour, could have done better myself. The seasoning was very haphazard, either over or under salted.Home made ice cream came in tiny portions, nothing special, the chocolate really watery. Also found that the set menu would have offered better value than the Travelzoo menu (£75 for 2). OK, you don't get something for nothing, but we had really been looking forward to this treat. Looking at the other reviews I think people lack the standards that should apply to restaurants with Michelin stars.

Being an optimistic soul I decided to stay put and enjoy the evening. The welcome was wonderfully warm and smiley. I arrived early so decided to have an aperitif and the Manager went out of his way to make it the way I like (Martini Ross on the rocks with a twist of orange peel). When my friend arrived we were respectfully seated but being a vegetarian there was nothing on the Groupon menu for me. The Manager was professional and offered me a great alternative and I loved it - mushroom risotto. My companion was even more challenging. She was on an Atkins diet and I have to say the staff really did go out of their way to accommodate her. Service was discreet and I enjoyed the evening. I can't say I was blown away by the food. If I could have selected something more exciting from the main menu I would have been happier.

When a business advertises a discount offer and the customer does everything set out to activate it - and confirmation is received not once but twice (by email and verbally) - the customer should be entitled to receive a discounted bill... Yet this is precisely what did not happen to me this afternoon: I had registered for their "Welcome Semplice" 15% discount and presented the emailed confirmation upon arrival. My bill arrived 'brutto' and having not noticed until I had left, I had to trapse back to the restaurant for my cc to be credited. This marred an otherwise perfectly enjoyable lunch with a most affable client. Surely, a single starred Michelin restaurant should be better organised. For starters, I had the pea soup with tortelli of ham and ricotta cheese and my guest, Pacherri lamb ragu. The pea soup was creamy and tasteful with nice sweet half peas for a good texture - but still a bit behind Hind Head's (which is near unbeatable!). The Pacherri was rated excellent, but as I do not take lamb or mutton, I did not venture a taste. We then had the Black Pork Loin Saltimbocca with Artichokes, which was nicely presented, tender and tasty and the excellent Pan Fried Monkfish with crispy squid ink risotto and baby leeks. The squid ink risotto was very good; a 7.5 compared to the best I have ever tried (in Verona) - and miles better than the horrid stuff I tried at Jamie's Italian (Covent Garden) a few months back.Too stuffed for dessert but they served nice petit fours - not excessive - with our coffee...Portions were good, nice airy ambiance and friendly service. (Shame about their inability to link their offers to their billing system.) Excluding the discount, the bill came to £104 incl 12.5% service charge and 2 bottles of water.

My husband and I went to Semplice for the first time on our wedding anniversary and I am so pleased we tried this restaurant. The starters were delicious as were the mains, I had the casarecce with lobster and peas which has now become my favourite dish in the world! For dessert I had the rum baba whilst my husband opted for the selection of italian cheeses. The whole meal was an absolute delight! When I called to confirm our reservation I made a request for a nice romantic table mentioning it was our wedding anniversary. The lady I spoke to must have taken note of this because when we had our coffee they also bought us a plate of petit four with "happy wedding anniversary" written on it. The perfect touch to end a perfect evening. The service was great from the moment we walked through the door and were welcomed by the receptionist to the moment she handed us our coats when we left and the food was out of this world, I love this restaurant and can't wait to go back.

My wife and I visited this restaurant last week and were very disappointed with the service we received. It was very slow service, people who arrived after us got served before us. I ordered a bottle of wine five minutes later the table next to me orders a bottle of wine, they then receive their bottle and I ask where mine is and I’m told they know I ordered it and it’s on its way. This kind of thing kept happening. I had to keep reminding the waiter what we had ordered. This is not the service you expect when paying well over £100 on a meal. The food was okay but I've had better.

We travel to London for a treat every once in a while and had booked this 1 Michelin star restaurant via Toptable. Was a bit disconcerted when I saw the reviews here but we went anyway. It wasn't busy; the welcome and service throughout the meal was friendly and efficient but I'm afraid to say our opinion of the food was that it was way too simple. We both had a conchigle with aubergine and tomato starter which turned up as rigatoni; it was okay; nothing to write home about and probably the lighter conchigle may have been better. My scamone (beef rump) was very rare came with a few salad leaves with a light dressing. It was fine, a decent enough piece of meat and I do like it rare so that wasn't a problem but it needed something else. Similarly my partner's cod came with just a few strips of courgette and a bit of a drizzle but it was fine for what it was. There were no 'tasters compliments of the chef' or anything to showcase the kitchen's abilities; it seemed lazy frankly. I doubt they won the star for the £23.00 2-course lunch menu but at say £15 for a main and £8 for starter you would think there was enough in the budget for a little bit of showmanship. We might have stayed for dessert and liqueurs/coffees but we were put off by now. This was poor value compared to other similarly endowed establishments we have visited and the likelihood of us returning is practically zero; when you have coughed up £50.00 on train fares you want better reward than this.

I have just finished attending this restaurant with my lady today (05/04/2012), and I am currently feeling disheartened and dissatisfied with the food I was served and how I was treated as a customer. I went for a 6:30pm reservation where I was welcomed by a female host who kindly took my coat and bags and I was escorted to my table by a man (perhaps the manager of this restaurant). Up to this point, I thought so far, so good. Just about everything else after this point however was awful. Another lady (who we thought was the waiter) came to our table and provided us the menus. She explained the foods on the menu when we asked. Next, we began to tell her our orders. She interrupted and said 'one moment' and walked off in a hurry. My lady and I looked at one another and wondered what was going on. We guessed perhaps this lady was NOT the waiter and so, walked off to find one for us. The funny part was it took about 15 minutes before a male waiter approached us and asked if anyone had taken our orders. For a Michelin star restaurant, I question why it would actually take this long for someone to approach us. We provided our orders to the male waiter and he went off. Few moments later (about 10 minutes), he provides our pre-starters and starters. The food was nice. Was not the best; certainly not at Michelin star standard. Next, we had roast lamb which again was nice but nothing great. Our plates were taken away, and we waited for our dessert. It was at this point, whilst we waited for our desserts that I became frustrated. We found that other customers who had entered the restaurant AFTER us were served their desserts whilst we waited 20 minutes for ours. I asked the male waiter what was happening. I explained that we had waited 20 minutes. His response back to me was a big shocker. No other waiter at a restaurant (even my local Indian) has ever ARGUED back at me to deny I have been waiting 20 minutes. I was clocking the time on my watch, so I knew it was at least 20 minutes. Surely, if I am the CUSTOMER, this WAITER should have simply apologized for the hold up, tell me how much longer I must wait, and then go back his business. Anyway, he eventually served the desserts which was simply 4 mini balls of yogurt in a pool of berry puree. I don't understand how this could have taken 20+ minutes to prepare. Our next course was coffee and petit fours but we decided to forget about it and leave. We were disgusted with the service and for the time we waited for the food, for which case we refused to pay the service charge. Will I visit this restaurant again? Absolutely not. Even the waiter at my local Indian treats me with more respect than the male waiter at Ristorante Semplice. Additionally, the Semplice restaurant seemed more interested in collecting their cash than actually making conversation with their customers. I have had great talks about the great chefs working at other restaurants - its great for conversation. At this restaurant, they failed miserably as far as communication and conversation is concerned. Warning to all - KEEP AWAY. Consider going to "Benares" - A Wonderful restaurant in the Mayfair area. The Michelin star should be taken away from Ristorante Semplice.

We dined here on a Groupon Voucher and though our meal was good I wouldn't return, not even on another deal. Our table was booked for 6.30pm and we arrived approx 10 mins early - we were told by the girl on front desk that our table wasn't ready yet (there was nobody else in!) so we asked whether we could sit down and have a drink while we waited for the table to become available - by her reaction you'd have thought that we were being difficult in our request. So instead after a quick check with somebody we were seated in the empty restaurant. I had expected the menu to be limited as we had purchased a deal, however there was a choice of 3 starters, only 2 mains and 3 desserts - a little bit too limited in my opinion! We both had the pasta in stewed beef which was very good, I had the cod and my partner had the lamb which we both enjoyed and we both chose the cheese selection for our dessert which we thought was great - especially the pongy talleggio! All this was washed down with a very good bottle of Nero d'Avola.Aside from the limited menu my gripes are: all of the Groupon voucher customers were seated together to one side of the restaurant - there's nothing like making us feel special! Also, although very efficient (erring on a bit rushed), I found the service to be a bit cold and impersonal. None of the staff made any effort at all to be pleasant or personable. Perhaps they felt that it wasn't worth being pleasant to the voucher customers...maybe if they had been a bit warmer we might have stuck around and had a liqueur or two with our coffee, instead we promptly paid up the addditional £60 for our bottle of wine and water and left.

We went for a "Groupon" special lunch, which was good, but not 1 star or full price good. Nothing truely negative apart from the sightly tart olive oil - sometimes the simpler the better - and the over processed bread. We went last night also with a Groupon voucher. I had rung up a couple of months earlier and changed my reservation date to bring it a week earlier. When we got to the restaurant they had no recond of this even though it had been confirmed on the phone but they accommodated us anyway as they had room. For starters we had the pasta with beef ragu, and the fois gras, both of which were really really delicious. For mains there was only a choice of 2 mains which is a bit limited but we tried both - the lamb and cod. Both were nice enough although nothing spectacular for a michelin starred restaurant and def not as good as the starters. For pudding we had the yoghurt mousse and the cheese board, again both were nice enough but nothing special, although we didnt have any problems with a smelly cheese like the previous review! Also included in the price was a bellini each and coffee and petit fours. The only thing we had to pay for at the end of the meal was water and service charge of 12.5%. I get annoyed when restaurants automatically add a 12.5% service charge but a lot of them do it these days.Overall the food was nice and service was also very good. I am not sure I would eat here again with the normal menu and prices as can imagine its quite expensive for what it is, but with the Groupon voucher it was great.

The staff were very attentive and did everything they could to make it an enjoyable evening, The cocktail - a bellini - which we had to begin with was amazing! The table next to us were doing a wine matching set menu where you chose your three courses and you received a different wine for each course to match the tastes which sounded very exciting. However, again, the prices were very high (being in London and a Mitchelin star) so I would only return with a good deal/voucher I'm afraid.

We also came here as part of the Groupon promotion so had the limited choices in the specially designed menu to choose from. For starters my gf had the Frois gras and I had the Beef Seadnini. Both were very crisp and clean in taste and presentation. The pasta was cooked to perfection and the beef and sauce was so good, tender beef and full of flavour. Frois gras pate was good too.We had the lamb and cod dishes for mains and both were well presented and we both thoroughly enjoyed them as the lamb were cooked just right with pink in the middle and again very tender. The broth accompanying the cod was delightful, very light but at the same time creamy and tasted great too.I had Tiramisu for dessert which had ice cream, biscuit and some other components. It equalled the high presentation standards so far and was delightful. A great dessert to finish off our meal. My gf chose the Cheese selection which came with 4 different cheeses. I dislike raw cheese so I didn't taste any but my gf said there were good except one of the four. This particular slice smelt horrific and I could only liken it to the smell of when baby poo when it's brewing in a baby's nappy! Worst of all is that you could smell it from across the table so there was no hiding place until it's removed. We didn't have any issues with the service as the waiters that served us were good.

Unfortunately, the lovely maitre d', GIovanni, no longer works there and his replacement is awful. We went there this time with a Groupon voucher which worked out more expensive than the 3 course set lunch. When I pointed this out to the waiter he just said 'Sorry lady, that's the way it is'. The food was ok but definitely not of the high standard we'd experienced previously. We should have realised something was wrong when we arrived and noticed that there were only 3 tables taken in the restaurant. When we used to go regularly, it was always full. Firstly. I'd note that this is a separate review (not the same party) from another crtitical one on the same day (20-01-12). Weekday lunchtime meal. Food certainly worth a star. Service rather lacking. More junior staff very attentive and courteous but maître d' / sommelier poor. Other Michelin restaurants (without exception), always explain/introduce wine & cheese selections with an evident desire to enhance the dining experience. This was completely absent. There was little interest in the style of wines we were requesting and it was also notable that on both bottles ordered, the tab came within 50p of our stated limit (when there were a number of cheaper options). If there had been any evident interest in ‘getting it right’ for us, I wouldn’t have minded. Quite literally, I had no way of knowing that there was any relevant training behind the service.

Had to ask for the bill 4 times over a 30 minute period and, on chasing a fifth time, the head waiter had the cheek to tell us we were lying to him (!) and that it hadn't taken that long and procceded to argue with us. Risotto Milanese - Talk about a golden glow. Rice soaked up the flavours, yet maintained a chewy solid core; cooked to perfection. A tad stingy on the bone marrow front, but it would be a much too weighty starter otherwise. I can see how the risotto here converted Giles Coren, as the website quoted. It was precise cooking with top quality ingredients, though I would encourage more adventurous combinations, like the Parmesan bites. Giovanni has mastered the perfect balance between formality and personality, giving the usual buzz of an Italian restaurant. http://londonwingz.blogspot.com/2011/01/semplice-michelin-risotto.html

My wife and I adore Italian food, and we choose Semplice as a one star michelin restaurant on our visit to London.Michelin stars are not the same in UK and on the continent. We are used to have a few "amuses geules" before starting our dinner, but at Semplice they give no amuse at all. To be honest, on all my former visits to michelin starred restaurants, I have never, never had a dinner without amuse geule, very dissapointed about that. We choise the degustation menu.I have given 4 for the food, because every plate was well prepared, but the eye wants also something. For exemple, our first plate was coquilles st jacques, we recieved one coquille cut in two, with two leaves of lettuce ....... come on, this is a joke for a michelin starred restaurant. But, it was well prepared. The chef was really on his best with the pasta ravioli and risotto. But then again, we were dissapointed to have in our main dish a second risotto preparation, what maid the whole menu a little bit heavy on the estomac. The cheese and dessert (tiramissu) was delicious, so I give 4/5, but will not return to semplice on our next visit to London.I have read that some viewers had remarks about the service, but service was almost perfect.

Atmosphere is not on a top level, but I think that's due to a layout of the restaurant. On the other hand it gives you some privacy since you hardly see any other guests. Service is a little bit funny. There is an Italian guy who is a manager and many kids working under him. They are all scared of him and he is very bossy and sometimes unpleasant in his attempts to teach them good service. That's not something that bothers you too much but if you are a person who prefers to see happy faces everywhere that this is not place for you. Since those kids are not very happy! :(In total - great place for a cool dinner with friends.

We decided to check out Semplice as we were in the mood for Italian and saw they had been awarded a Michelin star this year. While the food was universally superb, everything else was unfortunately a disappointment. The layout is poorly conceived. There is no bar / waiting area, which would not be a problem if they were not so disorganized and behind schedule that one has to wait 30 minutes even though he has a reservation. Thus, we were shown to a second dining room with the lights out hidden behind some curtains. Chairs were stacked on tables. This was effectively a well-decorated storage area. They cleared a table and brought us drinks. Multiple other people were eventually shown in and they tried to seat people at our table with us so they would not have to clean off another table. The main dining area is extremely tightly packed, close to the point of discomfort. Bizarrely, almost comically, the light fixtures hang so low close to the table that the waiters bump their heads when reaching across the table. While the staff was friendly, they seemed very disorganized and it often took a long time to waive them over when we ready to order. As I mentioned the food was fortunately excellent. I was particularly happy that they cooked my duck medium rare (very hard to find in London even if one asks specifically for it). The tiramisu was truly heavenly. Despite its quality, the food was not cheap, which is not surprising given the neighbourhood, but it is definitely not "good value." I'd probably go back if someone invited me based on the food quality alone, but I am really wondering how they got a Michelin star given the lack of organization and inconvenient space.

Washed it down with a 2003 Tignanello- expensive bottle but actually quite good value here and perfect. Just coffee to finish but we really enjoyed the meal in an expensive part of London. With a couple of drinks on pavement stools whilst we waited the meal cost was about £140 but the wine doubled that although there was plenty of choice amongst other much cheaper bottles.

Considering the Micheline star, I was very excited and bought 2 groupon vouchers for 7 course menu. The free bread was lovely, the monkfish with quails egg, gem lettuce and panzanella was very nice but i thought the panzanella was a strange combination. Many of the dishes with came out rare (fine, i know the carpaccio is rare/raw (too thick in my opinion) but didn't expect the other fish dish and the prawn dish also all rare) and the soup came out lukewarm. I asked whether it was supposed to be served lukewarm as I was open to this if this was meant to be - they tried to explain quickly it was not supposed to be very hot and then took away my soup and heated it up to be boiling hot even though i didnt ask them to. The prawn pasta was hit and miss - with 2 prawns, 1 cooked tasty and rare, but the other prawn almost completely raw which really ruined it for me and the pasta was very very al dente...the highlight was the dessert - it seemed like a full size tiramisu - definitely the best tiramisu i have had. Perhaps the a la carte menu had more care applied to it, but i didnt really feel the groupon menu was given as much care. The atmosphere was lovely, the place was quite full, but the hit and miss nature of my menu would not entice me back again. They also said to allow 2 hours for the meal but ours took almost 3 hours and i missed my friend's birthday drinks.

What can I say - excellent service and just as good food.Let me put it down in words before I forget. We had the 7 course tasting menu - which it seemed quite a few had as well at lunch - not surprised at that as the groupon deal has been so well taken up that there are no dinner slotsBe aware tasting menu informs you that to allow 2 hrs to complete. And this it did ..Bread was given free - 3 times - fresh -and warm and with some of the freshest extra virgin oil...top tip - 6 small pirces of bread - 2 per person.Dont fill up youll pay for it later like i did !I wont go in to all details but memorable for me was how delicious the pasta with tomatos and king prawn were - perfectly cooked al dente pasta and melt in the mouth king prawn ..it was very tasty. There is fair amount of fish on this tasting menu - which was just perfect for me .Cod with mussels swimming im samphire broth was delicious too. Then we had the pre desert - a bowl of blackcurrant coulis and domes of mascaporne cheese type. The main deset was this fancy coffee tirmasu type dome with ice cream and a crisp. My eyes were aglow - as i love coffee and chocolate and it didnt disappoint.Service was automatically added to the bill which was fine as it was very very good service.Discrete and straight onto the table - i dropped my napkin at one point didnt know i had and it was replaced immediately and took me by surprise..we had 2 glasses of prosseco - which for an italian they dont do ! very strange instead they had a brut type champagne sparking wine - which was nice but i would have preferred prossecco more as i prefer the nose on that more ...Per flute was £12 so champagne price markupAll in all an excellent restaurant and would highly recommend it A stones throw from new Bond street its easy to find...

I have been to Semplice a few times and during those visits, everything was fine. However, this time, the service was terrible. It took ages for our food to come and when we questioned it, we were told that the food was fresh. I have eaten in many "haute cuisine" restaurants and this is just not an excuse. For the money we were paying, I would expect much better service. Finally, we asked several times to see the manager, but he never came. In all my years of dining out, this is the first time, a manager had never come over to a table where he had been particularly asked for. I thought the manager was very arrogant and thought far too much of himself. It was obvious that the staff were scared of him and they were all very inexperienced. I am very surprised with this situation. In any case, we all left in bad moods, as we had wanted to impress our guests from America and India, but the restaurant let us down very badly. The food, when it did arrive, was lovely though. I won't be going back after such a poor experience. We entertain alot, so they have lost out!

Everyone is entitled to their opinions but I must assume that some reviewers have extremely high standards, to be so critical of Semplice. The only thing I could see to complain about initially, was the physical layout of the restaurant. Which has, (to a degree), to conform to the physical size of the building. However, I must stress that our table was perfectly fine and to be honest, we had more space and comfort than many other high-end restaurants. I must add that we did not see every part of the restaurant. The service was exemplary. Professional, without being obsequious, friendly without being too familiar; the very model of how it should be done. The food was also extremely good, with only one tiny criticism. My wife started with the speciality scallop salad, and I had the Carne all Albese, a kind of steak tartare - both were excellent. I followed this with the linguine with rabbit ragu, which was perfection itself. My wife had the risotto Milanese which was very good but could have done with a bit more bone marrow. The marrow and saffron make this dish and with a portion size that wasn’t too large, a couple of scant blobs of bone marrow seemed a little parsimonious. For dessert, we had the tiramisu and the white chocolate mousse, both excellent. We accompanied the meal with a bottle of stupendous Barbera from Boffa, which was heavenly. We also had a bottle of mineral water, two cocktails to whet the appetite and I had a grappa with my coffee. Service at 12.5% was automatically added to the bill.In conclusion, we loved Semplice and thought it better than most of the Michelin starred restaurants we have visited. I would not go there expecting a “blow-out”, it’s definitely a quality not quantity place - which suits both my wife and I. Obviously, I wholeheartedly recommend it.

Went there and had a degustation menu; were told our table was not ready - we were early - and we could go outside for a drink, though it was windy and chilly on the street; asked the waiter when he arrived with our drinks if there was no bar area inside and he told us "yes of course" ...!! were then seated at a table which had been empty since we arrived!! menu was nothing exciting, overall food OK but nothing exceptional, and tortellinis were undercooked and when mentinoing this was told "no they are al dente"...sorry have been to many italian restaurants - and in Italy many times- and this was not al dente- I have never had pasta so hard to chew. not nice. Good wine selection from Italy, and great Franciacorta! Good service during our meal. Will not come back though.

We have dined here in the past and unfortunately our most recent visit did not live up to expectations. The restaurant was advised of a food allergy a week in advance and even so had extremely limited choice which was disappointing. Although the food available was quite enjoyable the service was rather lacking. The Maitre D' was very personable but the rest of the staff came across as very nervous and inexperienced. For some of the evening we poured our own drinks as there wasn't anyone available to attend to them. Hopefully this was just a bad night and not the norm, but due to our experience we are definitely not planning on returning in a hurry!

Had a great meal at Ristorante Semplice last night. The food was great. The wine was superb. The service was excellent. The surroundings are excellent. A little cramped but not too badly so. The price was rather on the high side (£80 / head) but I couldn't argue given the quality of food and service provided.

The food, service and overall experience here is like a dream. Beyond impeccable, exceeds expectations and shows you a dining environment you never thought possible. Try anything on the menu, you'll love it. Beef, risotto, pasta, scallops, duck, fish or veal - all perfect. The wines are amazing and the mashed potato is a one-off. You are seriously missing out without it.

An English take on Italian restaraunts often leads to disapointments--Not so here----very fresh ingredients and sublime pasta are the order of the day with mainly Italian produce -and you can tell.If you went to a family run affair in Naples or Florence or Milan you would be hard pressed to improve on this delightful restaurant---whose maitre de is most attentive----we are regulars----just becareful as the Trattoria Semplice is just along the road (same people and great for lunch))and when obtaining the phone number its easy to confuse.
