Segreto Italian Bistro in Derbyshire Dales

It's been a great place, very cosy and perfect service, very fast. We had mainly pasta and some starters. Squid and sea food are very fresh and nicely done.

Beautiful food once again lastnight. The mussels were divine. Will be such a sad loss to the town when you close.

Such a lovely Italian restaurant. They fitted my family and I in last minute on a Saturday nothing was too much trouble. The food was delicious and the staff helpful and friendly.

Lovely little Italian Great menu and gorgeous specials

Exceptionally sweet accommodating staff. However, worst Italian food I've ever tasted, please send the chef to Italy...or Pizza Express at least! Also don't serve sliced meats from a pack from Tesco, the worst bread ever or limoncello in a champagne flute with an ice cube. It's really not that hard.

Arrived quite close to closing time. 3 adults and little dog. They welcomed us in. Able to sit inside with our little doggie. Food was beautiful, drinks, service, atmosphere all fantastic. Highly recommend.

Food and service excellent great cocktails all made in house The only not good thing was we were on a table in the back far corner and it was absolutely freezing a draught was blowing through the cupboard so we had to eat with our coats on couldn't move as place was full

Ate there twice recently. Both times really lovely food. Quick and pleasant service. We especially liked the Fried Squid and the Lamb Ragu with Gnocchi.

Thank you so much for my vegetarian pizza and chips! Pizza was a perfect Italian pizza, the chips were crisp outside and fluffy in the middle. Just what I needed today, couldn't be more grateful.

I ordered 3 pizzas and a pasta to take away. All 3 pizzas were undercooked and doughy, with uncooked pepperoni. It was poor. We only had a couple of slices each and threw the rest away. The pasta was ok, with the sauce being the best part of the whole meal. Overall I would avoid and eat elsewhere. Maybe better eating in? But surely better take away locally.

On a day when we were looking for somewhere to eat that is dog friendly, we stopped in to ask if there was chance of a table. Sadly not, they were fully booked. So we used their outdoor area to feed our dogs, and try to come with a plan. When a small voice offered us the option to sit outside. It was getting cool, but we took the offer. The team went over snd above to look after us. Our table was quickly laid, water was brought for the dogs, and our order was taken. It was getting chilly, but we were ok, when someone appeared with a gas heater to try and help us stay warm. Our food was amazing, ultra hot and great portions with even better flavours. We all had something different, but loved our meals. It was an unusual meal, but we had a great evening, and will be back again.

Great food, good price and attentive service

Visited twice in the last month, have been waiting to try this restaurant since it opened but never got round to it…I’m so glad we finally did! A fantastic experience on both occasions. We had a birthday dinner here last night and the service was fantastic. One of our party has some very limiting dietary requirements, most of which eliminate any possibility of eating at an Italian! This was no problem for Segreto, they went above and beyond to produce a fantastic 3 course meal even with so many dietary restrictions! The rest of our food was fantastic as well, there is a huge selection of traditional Italian food with gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options too, alongside a huge and varied range of drinks options. The lady who served us on both evenings went above and beyond to ensure we had a memorable and enjoyable experience, and the food was of the highest quality. Portion sizes are on the bigger side so more than value for money as the prices are incredibly reasonable. The decor is beautiful and all of the seating areas are intimate and private making for a lovely dining experience. I couldn’t recommend highly enough and only wish I had eaten here sooner! We will all definitely be back and want to say a massive thank you to both the chefs and the staff for giving us an experience to remember. Wish more people knew about this fantastic secret! We have previously enjoyed eating here but we were very disappointed this time. 3 out of 4 of us had ordered pizza, but none of them were good and mine was dreadful! I only ate a quarter of it, leaving the rest on my plate. I might have expected interest in why I hadn't eaten it, but nothing! My friends didn't finish theirs either. It was a quiet night and the manager was the only one in front of house so perhaps they were trying to manage the absence of staff? We have previously been happy to recommend...but not on this showing. What a pity.

Tucked away behind St John St is this welcoming Italian restaurant with rustic decor in three different sized rooms. Food is simple but well prepared Italian staples, served with a smile. Shame only the Tiramisu was homemade on desserts but plenty of good option on starters and mains including gnocchi, pasta, risotto and pizzas.

Lovely little place with a great atmosphere. Service by waiting staff was fantastic. Some of the food was lovely but some of the dishes were a little disappointing.

I took my wife for her birthday and it was better than excellent! The staff were superb and the food was out of this world. It really is a credit to Ashbourne. We will definitely be going back soon. Can't thank the staff enough for making it a very special night for my wife.

Pizza was crunchy to burned on outside and semi raw and chewy in the middle. When asked if it was ok I said no chewy. Really not nice. The you girl just dirty looked me as if I had insulted her mother and walked off. Only managed half if that. We weee told lasagna was going to take half an hour so obviously not fresh. Not impressed.

Warm service and nice ambient.. Food is alright, and wine was really good.

The food is below average for the price. We ordered the carbonara and matriciana and both tasted like store bought ready meals. Disappointing as the place is really cute and the staff were really welcoming and sweet!

Absolutely loved the Italian meal

I remember going to this restaurant when we needed some dinner after a long trip visiting from London. The staff were so polite and attentive. I didn’t have an expectations for the food quality but it was surprisingly good. For those travel or those who live in the area I highly recommend this restaurant. It’s affordable and quite tasty.

Lovely decor, friendly male staff member. Nice wine choice. Pasta cooked well and Al dente but for us the sauce lacked any depth of flavour, seasoning or fresh herbs. We wouldn't hesitate to return though and try something different.

Easily the worst pizza I’ve ever eaten. Thought we would try here after a busy day out as the reviews were okay. So disappointed! Ridiculously overpriced for such poor quality food and one very rude young waitress who took a polite complaint to heart about the meal and didn’t want to knock money off bill when we left most of the food. Never knew you could get a pizza so wrong. Sopping wet with oil, the pizza was basically floating on the plate and was it was dripping off the base 🤢 Really not an enjoyable experience with staff member who didn’t have any customer service knowledge. Unsure of how the reviews are ‘good’ as it wasn’t a pleasant experience! I would avoid and go somewhere better with a nicer atmosphere.

The waitress was so wonderful and nice It's a shame the food wasn't so great I had risotto and it definitely sounded better on paper it came with a extra bite and very bland I couldn't eat it . I was left feeling disappointed ..

Nice little find, good menu, reasonably priced, very good food. Was a little cold in the restaurant, had to wear my outside jacket. One of the staff members was a little frosty, bit short with us, hence the 4 stars. Apart from the couple points above I would recommend this place.

It’s no secret; Segreto is stunning! The location, the venue, the staff, and the food are all outstanding! Two visits in as many weeks and impressed on both occasions. The decor is warm and comfortable; the staff are friendly, welcoming, and attentive; and, the food is delicious, generous, and hot. A modest yet varied selection of refreshments readily accompany the equally eclectic mix of authentic Italian Bistro cuisine. One of our short-list of go-to places to eat in Ashbourne … highly recommended, whether you’re a local or just passing through.

Good venue, catered well for our large group with food arriving fast for such a big group. We ordered far too much food, but leftovers were boxed up for us to take. Not a huge range of drinks available, and a little cold especially in the toilets, but it makes up for it by the food.

Cosy little restaurant. Had a birthday balloon set up when we got there as it was for a celebration meal. Food wasn't of the quality I expected. The Fritura starter (5 battered calamari rings and 3 prawns) came out and the calamari rings were so uniform and identically battered that they looked 'cook from frozen': they tasted like it too. The three prawns also lacked any real flavour or substance - not worth the price in my opinion. Staff were very responsive though and replaced it without any hassle, and the tomato soup was okay. Asparagus and prawn risotto was nice although lacked seasoning somewhat but maybe that's left up to the customer's personal preference. The Florentina pizza was heavy on the goat's cheese and sun-dried tomatoes, and was very very nice, we just couldn't finish it!

Fantastic with food allergies & intolerances plus the food was delicious and the service was excellent. I would definitely go back plus recommend it to others.

Great restaurant. We were booked into a different restaurant which was unexpectedly closed. Segreto managed to squeeze us in. The staff were great, the food was really good and the atmosphere was lovely. Was meant to be.

Found this place by accident, if you like Italian food this is a great place to get great Italian food sensibly priced mid day offers ,great food and brilliant staff well worth a visit

Would love to give it more stars as the staff were lovely and we liked the ambience, but sadly the food was dire. The worst we have had in any Italian restaurant. The salad starter was fine but both main courses completely lacked flavour and were incredibly bland. One was the Seafood Scoglio. I tried 🌶 oil to improve it but that had no bite at all and pepper didn't help. My wife had the asparagus risotto which was not only tasteless but was not made with the correct type of rice . I can only assume the chef was off sick. Such a shame. Cant imagine how they have survived these past 2 year if the food has always been like that?

Brilliant food, excellent service. The wine selection was on point. if I'm in Ashbourne again I'll definitely be coming again. If you want an Italian bistro this is the place.

Ok but not to rave about. Possibly the worst minestrone I've ever had! Nothing like Marcella Hazan's recipe!

I liked that I could sit outside. Service was fine. I had high expectations based on reviews but unfortunately the food was a big let down. Spaghetti allo scoglio had maybe 100 gr of pasta cooked so badly that chuncks of it were stuck together; assorted prawns and mussels with sauce that was too watery; the dish was lukewarm. Overall a tasteless disappointment. At least the beer i drowned it with was fine as the restaurant did not make that. If I tried to cook this bad myself I would not manage.

My daughter and I enjoyed the atmosphere, friendly helpful staff and of course our lovely meal!

Sat in a gazebo outside and very nice it was too. The server was polite and the food was lovely.

Lovely interior design. Very clean. Friendly staff. Food arrived before wine (we were the first customers, two waitresses on a floor). Plate was cold and food hardly warm. Specials on a board displayed with no prices. Definitely room for improvement.
