Very disappointed last night. Went for the seafood platter which was £19 Plate was cold and food Luke warm. The whole whiting was unseasoned and undercooked. Couldn't eat that. Scallops tasteless and unseasoned. 2 large prawn tasted like a precooked warmed up one. Little pot of mussels was ok but cold. 3 little calamari rings with soggy coating. Garlic bread was a part baked roll which was underdone. When I complained the waitress who was very sweet said they had burnt our first bread so probably our food sat around until they baked another one and didn't wait long enough for it to be cooked. I think the chips would have been nice if they had come freshly out of the fryer. The Chardonnay was delicious. All in all dreadful. The waitress was apologetic and offered to knock off some money but I said no because I wanted them to know we didn't complain to get money off. Will not go there again. Wish I had read the last reviewers review about tasteless food. I would not have gone.

We found this restaurant overlooking the harbour in Plymouth, turned up without a reservation on a Friday evening. The restaurant has a lovely rustic feel to it, very cosy. There were a few special dishes on the menu and we chose the seafood tapas for two people. This dish was excellent, all the fish and shellfish were cooked perfectly and the food was served very quickly. Real local ales on tap too. The staff were very pleasant and we really enjoyed our evening. Will certainly have to go back again when we are in Plymouth again.

This is a restaurant but we didn't sample the food as we had already eaten, The menu looked good though and we plan to eat there when next in Plymouth. We were looking for a warm place to sit and drink a beer and found this place. Small inside but have a lot of tables outside on the quay front under those patio heaters. You can sit in comfort and listen to the live music (every night) from the Rakuda bar next door. Very pleasant staff.

The restaurant itself has about a half dozen tables although outside on the edge of the quay there’s a large covered outdoor patio. It was drizzling when we went but a hardy crowd had turned up for the live music. We ordered spag bol and seafood tagliatelle, both of which came promptly in generous portions and tasted great. Bread was extra and there was only a limited range of wine by the glass, but the service was good and given the quality and location, our meal seemed good value.

We have been to the restaurant several times over the last three years whilst my daughter has been at university. The food can be a little bit variable, sometimes brilliant and sometimes below expectations (other reviewers have said the same), but overall we have been happy and returned. The restaurant has outdoors seating and more limited indoor seating. With past trips, seated indoors, it has been on the cooler side because the staff have to go through the door to reach the outdoor restaurant seating - understandable and the staff have gone out of their way to keep the door closed as much as possible. With this in mind, we booked the table furthest away from the door and all wore warmer clothing when we visited recently. The double doors were however were left completely open all of the time so I asked if they could be shut and used as we had seen in the past. The waiting staff looked awkwardly at a man behind the bar who curtly said "sorry, but no - this is an outdoor restaurant!". I questioned why in the past a different approach had been adopted and also pointed out that the proper outdoor seating area had high powered heaters keeping the customers warm - there was nothing equivalent indoors. My comments were dismissed rather rudely. We did not have the option of switching restaurants as Plymouth was busy - we sat there and froze. There was a Chinese lady sat on the next table to us with two coats on trying to keep warm! What had been intended as a nice leisurely meal and several courses/bottles of wine end up a quick meal and us all retiring to the Crown and Anchor - the cleanest and one of the most pleasant pubs I have ever visited.I did refuse to pay the 10% service charge as a protest but have to say, with the exception of the manager, the staff were very polite and attentive. I have a feeling they agreed with our request but were not allowed to try and resolve the problem.Until the manager leaves we will not be going back and I recommend others consider their options carefully - especially with winter now closing in!

I've visited Seafood & Pasta Bar a few times since I moved to Plymouth and I've always found the food and service good, if a little overpriced for the quality. But the main draw for me has always been the location, right on the Barbican with outdoor tables overlooking the marina. So when I had family visiting and they asked to go somewhere with outdoor seating for dinner, this seemed like a good choice. What I hadn't factored in to this was that one member of our group was vegetarian. I'll admit that I didn't double check the menu before we were seated, because although the restaurant specialises in seafood, it also serves a lot of pasta dishes (as the name suggests!) Of which I assumed at least one or two would be meat-free. This turned out to be a big mistake! As we looked at the menu I realised that there isn't a single vegetarian main on offer. We were going to leave, but the gracious vegetarian amongst us wouldn't hear of it. He eventually cobbled together a dinner from a starter of garlic mushrooms and a salad. These were, by all accounts, delicious. But they were literally the only vegetarian dishes on the menu apart from bread and chips! All in all, I would visit again, because the location is lovely and the food is good. But I'd be very careful not to take a vegetarian there again unless they change the menu to include (at least) one veggie main dish.

I have visited this restaurant a few times a couple of years ago in the winter, the food was lush and although the premises is tiny it had a lovely atmosphere, I have recently been going back because the seafood is the best, portions are very generous and prices are very good, the only downside to this restaurant is the toilets which are for both genders and staff are not very clean, but because the food is so good I hold myself until I can go elsewhere, guys, you do fab job, food is great, but please please stop putting a grubby worn out tea towel on the seat right next to the kitchen serving hatch, twice in a week I visited and both times there was a very nasty tea towel placed right next to me, it really turned me off my dinner, not I admit to the state that I left it, it's far to delicious to do that, but guys it really looks awful, all in all this place serves the nicest seafood got miles and I am back there in 48 hours, bit noisy weekend evenings because of the different licences premises playing music, but food makes it all worth while, you must try the mussels they are truly a delight.

We visited this restaurant roundabout 23 July 2014 and wished we hadn't, had not booked anywhere and came on the spur of the moment. They easily found room for us. But the food wasn't good. Worst was the " Homemade Paella " which was nothing like Paella, no hint of saffron ( the rice was yellowish but you couldn't taste or smell any saffron ), very little seafood in it and loads of onion and a spicy chili flavour overriding everything. When I complained the male waiter or manager ? explained it was homemade and their own recipe. As my wife only eat one mouthful of hers the man was good enough to deduct her meal from the bill - we didn't stop for desert. While its a nice location generally on the quayside, unfortunately being outdoors seemed to make it a magnet for smokers on nearby tables. Then when the overloud amplified live music from the entertainer in the adjoining restaurant prevents any conversation, drowning out everything else, I realised I should do be diligent doing my homework researching through trip adviser more often in the future.

The portion sizes were decent and the location is good. Which I possibly what you are paying for. Food was very much 'pub grub' in it's quality. There are a lot of seafood options which you wouldn't get in a lot of pubs, but the moules marinnaire sauce was watery and vinegary. There were lot's of mussels for an entree, but on closer look five were closed. The other dishes our group had were very basic. Bread for steak sandwich was chewy and the meat was bland. The lunch prices are actually quite good fir some dishes- £7.95 for a very decent size fish and chips. I doubt the plate was any bigger for the evening service, yet the price is. No faults with the staff but not great either. Would not recommend it or ever go back.

I chose the blackened cod with chips and salad - the cod was amazing, so well cooked and tasty! My Husband had the surf and turf burger - he was not keen on it at all, there was very little seasoning to the burger, so little flavour and the prawns were overlooked and rubbery. The portions were MASSIVE! Both of us had the most massive pile of chips, which was quite off putting... The chips looked well cooked and crispy, but were actually soggy! But I really can't fault my cod, so wasn't all bad!

Friendly waitresses, ordered paella as love it normally and eat loads of it when I visit Spain . Basically a load of onions and peppers with a bit of rice, some chicken and no chorizo ( as promised) turned up. I don't like onions and peppers which you don't normally get in this dish and couldn't even pick them out as there were that many. Told the waitress and she took it away and then the manager came out. Told me basically it's not his problem I don't like that food and it said on the menu that it was their special paella so they can put want they want in it. I refused to pay and he reluctantly brought me the fish platter,. Fish was nice but chips were horrible. After a couple of minutes he came over and said " is that better?" Really rude and can't be bothered. Loads of other people complaining and getting the same treatment. This place could be awesome as it is prime location but the manager just hates his customers. Have read loads of bad reviews on here and not surprised they don't reply as they catch the one off tourist trade who like the loo of the place

The Seafood and Pasta Bar never fails to please. I have eaten here many times and wholeheartedly recommend it to any lover of pasta combined with a warm welcome and somewhere that every customer is made to feel important and wanted. The location of this restaurant is great with a lovely outside area down in the Barbican area of Plymouth. When we arrived the waiter was extremely helpful setting up a table for us but unfortunately after that it went downhill. We ordered drinks including a bottle of red wine. White wine arrived and was sent back. We waited. This happened twice. We were kept waiting for our main course approximately an hour by which time we were about to walk out. The waitresses seemed intent on ignoring us even when it was clear that we needed their assistance. When the food did arrive it was average and although not terribly expensive, rather over-priced for what it was. And when we did get the attention of the waitress she tried to get us to order expensive side dishes whilst (sort of) suggesting that they might be complementary. The manager showed up and we did get some complementary bread (which disappeared quickly as we were starving by that time). Not an experience to be repeated.

I use the Seafood and Pasta Bar regularly. We went there on 1st July to celebrate a family birthday. We were off to a good start with prompt seating and drink orders followed by our food order. Our starters arrived quite quickly but from there, things went slightly down hill. We were offered desserts after our starters and pointed out to the waitress that we would like our mains first! Two of us shared a seafood tapas, but were a little disappointed. We have had this many times before but they have made some minor changes to the dish and we did not like the changes. There is no longer any salmon, but garlic mushrooms instead. The other thing we were not keen on was the smothering of the crayfish tails in chilli sauce...why would you do this??? At one point a waiter came past and took our empty glasses but failed to offer us another drink and after our meal, our plates were cleared but we were not offered desserts or coffee. It is a shame that the service let them down as the setting is beautiful. I am also a little tired of the chefs platter always having mackerel as one of the two fishes. Surely mackerel cannot be the only catch of the day. We have had far better service on previous visits which is why we keep returning.

We sat in the outside bit which was lovely overlooking the harbour (the weather was amazing on this occasion which obviously helped). Had the chef's special which was an amazing two-tiered seafood platter. It was incredibly fresh, tasty and varied so I couldn't fault it. It wasn't necessarily "cheap" but was absolutely worth the money. People seem to be moaning about non-attentive staff on here; I guess they weren't particularly "attentive" in that they didn't check up on us all the time but I'm not really fussed about that anyway; we got sat down very quickly; our order was taken straight away; and the staff were polite and very grateful when we thanked them for such a good meal - those are the important things as far as I'm concerned. There are large umbrellas and seating all enclosed outside or you can eat inside. We chose to sit outside, the view was lovely across the harbour, and a there was live guitar music playing. The service was great, didn't have to wait, the menu's were extensive and there was also a specials board. I had the blackened cod in cajun spices. The fish was succulent, (they know how to cook fish), the portion was large so the fish in itself was filling, it was truly delicious, the spices were just right, enough of a kick but without taking it away from the lovely piece of fish, a wonderful meal, served with a refreshing tzatziki and crunchy chips. The evening was lovely, and service was friendly. If business takes us that way again we will be back.

For £18 it was good value with 2 mackerel, a large white fish, mussels, a couple of scallops, prawns and chips. All tasted fresh and the waitress confirmed everything was locally caught. Service was very friendly too. A good choice.

We visited for a late lunch so the place was not that busy. We waited ages for someone to take our drinks order and then even longer for the drinks to arrive. We ordered from the light bites menu thinking this May speed things up. When the food eventually arrived it was bland and tasteless. Generally a poor experience and we will not return.

The weather is lovely and has bought many people out for a lunchtime walk/food. I decided to visit, sit outside and enjoy a seafood platter. I have to say that the chips were the best part of the meal! The majority of the fish was served in a sauce... Mussels covered in strong pasta sauce and scallops covered in a cream sauce and prawn with onion and garlic - you couldn't taste the fish. This also came with 2 fish - one served with full bones and tail. Shell on prawns and no finger wash or additional napkin. I was asked if I wanted to see a dessert menu and I agreed - it might save the meal! After half an hour I called the waitress for the menu that she offered and asked for a cup of tea. The menu arrived but no order was taken! I decided to leave and asked for the bill. I felt that I wanted to share my experience with someone and did with a gent whom looked like a supervisor.... He defended the menu saying there had never been a complaint before and the sauces are down the chef. I explained how poor the service had been but he didn't seem concerned that my dessert order had been forgotten. There is no basic care or level or service here.... Let alone trying to delight. What a huge disappointment .... A wasted afternoon, extremely poor service, avoid. I will not eat here again.

4 of us went on a groupon deal, whilst away for a weekend in Plymouth, menu on website looked good, but the groupon deal apparently was a limited choice menu ( nor mentioned anywhere)Saturday evening - they said we hadn't booked - I only managed to find the conformation e-mail when I got home, begrudgingly they gave us the table by the door in a draft. They questioned if I had booked the wrong day ??????My starter was wrong- I asked for Mussels, mushrooms arrived. - sent back.Main was OK.Dessert was eaton mess - but just cream and mashed strawberries- no meringue. There appeared to be better places nearby - so I suggest you try one of those.NOTE groupon deals are usually fine.

We settled in for a late bank holiday lunch with freinds and were all looking forward to some lovely seafood by the sea!We ordered blackened cod, surf and turf burger and a seafood tapas for 2 " this was over £65,00 worth of food .First to arrive was the blackened cod dish wish was emphatically, categorically and absolutely NOT cod ! The fish that they tried to pass off as cod was totally flat and if anything resembled plaice or sole. We pointed out that this could not have been cod due to its shape and size but they were not interested . Next to arrive was the surf and turf burger with the promise of a real steak burger with fresh garlic prawns, what arrived was a tasteless frozen burger with 3 clearly frozen prawns shoved into a bun !!! (Almost inedible )To complete this cularinary nightmare the seafood tapas , The calamari was oozing with grease ,the whitebait was completety enveloped in a thick overfried batter unlike any whitebait we had seen before ! There were two unpeeled prawns that were absolutely filthy .The rest of the platter was inedible and even the chips were undercooked and floppy !We mentioned to the waitress that were not impressed with what had been put in front of us and suddenly this aggressive , cigarette smoke smelling chef came out and was very unpleasant and tried to justify what he had just served. They offered us complimentary drinks but we insisted that they take the tapas off the bill as the drinks were not the issue. In a nutshell " Terrible "

I understand it was a Groupon offer. Though I still expect to be treated as a customer in the same way.The Groupon menu was or is terrible, very little choice. We were told we could pay supplements if we ordered from the main menu.So we ordered then were presented with the bill, less £50 even though the value of the Groupon voucher was £115. When we asked for an explanation we were informed that they only deduct what we have paid to Groupon.Unbelievable. They say this is how everyone has been treated and no one else has complained. I am not sure why not. This is not why you purchase a Groupon Voucher.Terrible place, terrible staff, food not much better, Definitely never going back there again just to be ripped off.

I booked a table for 4 just after i graduated from university in november 2013. My mum wanted seafood so i booked this place. i instantly regretted it! i had the surf and turf which was £23 or something like that. the food was over cooked and very overpriced for what i got. the staff also started to eat on the table next to us when there was 6 other tables to choose from. my friend had sole with vegitables which were soggy. the bill was very dear. i felt awful that i had booked this place and not Maritamos or B Bar which is more reasonably priced. this isnt just me who thought this was bad but also my friends and mother. also just a point, there are also about 6 tables in the whole restaurant and the atmosphere is dead and i mean like something out of hells kitchen!!! i will not reccommend this place for anyone. go somewhere else for better food and atmosphere.

Booked a groupon meal at this restaurant. I rang mid week for a Saturday afternoon table and was asked straight away if the booking was for groupon booking. I confirmed yes and was promptly told no tables were available day and night. My wife rang 10 mins later and was asked the same questions but said she was a non groupon customer and suddenly tables were available. She then explained we were groupon customers and told no tables were available. The offer is running out and was then told we should of booked before. What professionalism and warm customer service. A bunch of money grabbing liars.if you respect integrity avoid.

Wandering around the Barbican looking for something to eat late afternoon, we were recommended to try this restuarant.Service, to start with, was quick, friendly and efficient. There was a lunch menu that went up to 5pm which was quite a reduced price to the same choices on the 'dinner' menu.Food was nice and was also served very hot. Which was good as the whole time the front door was open and this is a small restuarant. Too cold to sit outside! Was an enjoyable meal on the whole. Was a little concerned at the chefs waking in and out and appearing to have fresh food covered by their aprons. The kitchen storage may be elsewhere in the building but I would suggest use of more hygienic transport methods!

This is a lovely little restaurant on the edge of the barbican. They were very accommodating and where able to accommodate two walk ins within the half hour which is far better than any of the another barbican restaurants could achieve. The staff were very friendly and the food was excellent with a wide selection on the menu. Also the specials were very good and all at a reasonable price. The wine list is a little pricey but the house white was nice enough. In sum, a lovely night, very much for couples and families. I would book in advance to avoid disappointment. Bar Rakuda is a sister establishment and if you arrive early I would recommend a drink here, you can view the menu whilst listening to live music outside. Blankets and heaters are provided if the weather is slightly cooler than expected.

We were strolling around Barbican and found this little place where we decided to have a lunch. It was 11 of us and must say that the kitchen coped with that just great, waitress was very friendly. Most of us had fish dishes, burger and club baguette. Portions were really big, a little too much on the chips side, but overall everyone was satisfied with their choice. I had scampi and my husband had the club sandwich (as he was not very hungry), both dishes were fine, but I wouldn't say they were special. Overall, nice little place facing harbour, but just average.

This was a anniversary meal and we found the restaurant by accident earlier in the day. I have to confess that I was sceptical due to previous reviews on Tripadvisor. Any way we got there about 19.00 and was greeted very nicely. We were given enough time to read the menu and we're impressed by the ambience. We didn't sit outside as too cold but in the building itself and although small was perfect for our evening. The starters were the size of mains, and the mains were the perfect size foe the price you paid for them,no scrimping here. I would thoroughly recommend this place to anyone. Don't expect a cheap night but then don't expect a expensive one either. If you enjoy good food then this is a MUST.

Found this place completely by accident. Lucky to get a table given two other restaurants were full. Skipped starters (recommended) and went for the mains. Individual fish platter was superb as was blackened Salmon. Portions are generous to huge and food is fresh and well cooked. Excellent service too. Cramped tables and noise might not be everyone's style but I loved it. BTW: Chips are definitely worth the calories!Plus, right on the harbourside on the Barbican.

We had a group of 8 for lunch wanting outdoor seating. There are areas all along shared by two restaurants, in this case the Bar Rakuda and the Seafood & Pasta Bar. Normally you can order from either. We went to the Seafood side but were seated on the Rakuda side which was fine. half wanted the Rakuda menu (including our vegitarian) half wanted seafood. Bar Rakuda staff were excellent, but Seafood refused our order - too busy! so we moved to their side where Rakuda was happy to serve us and we could order from Seafood - They treated us terribly - no service, people arriving much later received their meals first, no dinks service, dirty looks, Even the staff from Rakudas were shocked. Needless to say I took the tip directly to the waitress from Rakuda who did serve us. Rakuda meals came out in a timely manner and were excellent.

Come across this restaurant purely from the amount of people who were dining here in the early afternoon sun at Plymouth, even though it was somewhat breezy there were sufficient numbers dining out underneath the tarpaulin to suggest this would be the pick of the many restaurants that overlook the Barbican at Plymouth, we were not disappointed with our choice. There is plenty of variety on the menu to temp folk of differing culinary distinction, the atmosphere is conducive to relaxation especially as the restaurant falls well within the flying range of Seagulls, the fact that people are dissuaded from throwing food to these flying scavengers due to heavy fines if caught feeding the gulls does go someway to cutting down on the pest problem often associated with Gulls.Thoroughly recommended to anyone wishing to enjoy the history of the Pilgrim fathers area

Well the sun came out so we thought "how about a family lunch" we choose this restaurant on the Barbican mainly for its location and layout- easy parking for a pushchair, the only reason for the two star rating! The service was incredibly slow disorganised with poor quality food, in fact the calamari was almost inedible being that it was Luke warm and without much batter. Also the service had little consideration for our younger diners 6 &4 years, their food came out last. All in all we won't be going back in a hurry.
