Scotch & Rib-aye in North Ayrshire

Now rebranded as The Canny Man, I believe it's under new management and they're working hard to re-establish this as a local favourite. We went on a Sunday afternoon for lunch with another couple, it wasn't busy and the staff were super welcoming. I had the lentil soup to start which was outstanding but the bread came with really unpleasant spread rather than real butter.. The wife had the chicken tempura starter which was "ok" but considering it's £7.50 it was really small. All 4 of us had the roast beef main and it was fantastic! The beef was cooked perfectly and the Yorkshire puddings were perfect, extra gravy on the side would be a welcome addition though.. The sticky toffee pudding was average and the Oreo sundae was pretty forgettable tbh.. We did enjoy our meal busy mostly because of the great roast, if they put the same effort in to the starters and desserts it would be so much better. For X4 three courses and a drink each the bill was around £130.. this is kinda average these days but I think there's better value to be had in the area. The staff were amazing and very attentive without being intrusive. We'll definitely be back.. but probably just for a main course.

Lunch menu isn’t on at the weekend - would be handy to have menu’s available online (not just the lunch menu) so people know what your other menu is. Portion sizes pretty small for the price - small ramekin of Macaroni with a slice of garlic bread and a side salad -£13. My two fingers are bigger than the £6 slice of cheesecake! Don’t think I’d go again. Disappointed

I used to go here nearly every week when it was the canny man food was great back then then it changed hands to the padero went twice terrible so it's changed name this time I said give it another go today and it was probably the worst restaurant I have ever been in ! charging like it was a top restaurant very overpriced table had been varnished poorly so was very tacky at this point I should have got up and left but hey the food might be very nice so ordered steak pie waited around 30minutes for it to come out looked very nice what a let down the steak in the pie was burnt I mean you could see it was burnt black on 1 side no one came to our table to ask how we were so couldn't let them know so I let them know when I got up and left they did take it off the bill which you would expect and said hmm I've not heard that before well I should think not ! Terrible will never be back how some people can take a good place and run it in to the ground.

Lovely lunch in a lovely place. Really welcoming and friendly server. Very attentive. Food was lovely and really great value for money. Haggis Bon Bons with peppercorn sauce were amazing. Tempura chicken was really tasty and crispy. Aberdeen Angus burgers were perfect with great crispy chips. We were stuffed when we left. Will be back again.

I visited Scotch and Rib-aye on 1st of april with my sister--in-law,who is disabled.We went because it is all on one level and the menu looked so good.When we got there what a disappointment!! The place was deserted apart from a couple sitting at a table.The menu was like a snack bar menu with one or two starters and mains...nothing like the huge online menu.Had to send my very frugal meal back and my sister-in-law couldn't eat the very hard veg.There was no one to complain to.Only people there wss a young girl serving and chef.It wasn't her fault.Was told management won't speak to customers!! I messaged manager next day on FB messenger only to be ignored.I put a bad revue on and that got them messaging me to say they didn't know anything about it and would get back to me!! Guess what? They have blocked me!!! So obviously they have no excuse for the bad food.The place is changing to an Indian restaurant,but that won't make customers who have had poor food want to come back.Shame on management.😡

Fantastic food in a very welcoming atmosphere. We visited on Saturday 15th April and all had a beautiful, well presented and delicious lunch. We were made very welcome and the service we had from the host and staff couldn’t have been better. We will definitely be back!

Food was excellent and reasonably priced good atmosphere and nice staff. We also tried the one in Barrhead (the old waterside inn) (or jean Gebbies if you’re old enough to remember) that was excellent as well, definitely worth a visit.

Fantastic waitress but the food was rank rotten. The clue was probably an empty car park during an Easter holiday.

Its now my new Favorite place & Dog Friendly too 🐶🥰 Sam who served up was Really Nice Gal & Nothing was too much trouble.. Harry Dog was brought a nice fresh bowl of water to our table too 🐶❤️ Starters YUM 😋 FishNchips were a Wow 😋👌🏽Nice touch with the pickles, Homemade Tartar & Mushy peas ⭐️ Presentation was SPOT ON! 👀👌🏽 And Finally .. We shared a Sundae 😋😋😋 Respect & Many compliments to this great Chef 💯 % 👌🏽 Prices were Amazing for the Quality & Quantity of the food. Overall just Seriously Great food presented with care & a passion. Thank You ⭐️⭐️⭐️🥰⭐️

Me and my mum went for dinner today staff was very friendly place was spotless. Both got soup for starter which was so tasty mum got fish and chips and I got stake pie both loved it also got mac cheese, onion rings and garlic mushrooms as sides felt like we were in a food coma 😂 we will definitely be back so thank you for the lovely service and beautiful food 5/5 from us

3 of us ate here yesterday. It was not good. The chicken schnitzel was plain, flavourless breaded chicken. The soup was bland and the chicken satay was a few bits of chicken on a bed of shredded lettuce with a drizzle of satay sauce. Very odd. The fajitas very greasy. We had to fetch our own cutlery. Today, I have a very dodgy stomach. Coincidence? Definitely won't be returning.

Iv been to Padaro a few time and now its changed to this place. To be honest its the same place. Nothing much has changed apart from a few new sign across the old signs. Wanted to try the steak but unfortunately only had steak of the day on offer and not the countless ones listed on there online menu. I would avoid the sticky toffee pudding. Basically some really dry / burnt sponge cake with a small side of sauce. Overall a bit overpriced for what you get.

I have eaten here twice, both times I had a steak. Flavourful and hot! I know it might sound daft but I will explain. Most times I have a steak the mushrooms, chips or tomato will be cold. Not on these cases. Everything was hot, I never really noticed how much of a difference this made to an experience. Staff friendly and warm. Not much of a drinks list, well there was no drinks list. My server verbalised it well though and we got there in the end. I’m guessing waiting on new menus to come. All in fantastic gem once known as the Canny Man who still hangs on the wall.
