My friend and I went for a lovely Greek meal earlier this week at Sapphos. The food was delicious and fresh and there was plenty of choice. We both opted for souvlaki wraps - halloumi and chicken. They were both very tasty and filling and came with flavoursome sauce and chips. We started with some delicious garlicy olives and humous - so good ! Finally, as we were both having water instead of wine (definitely wine next time), we went for two deserts to share - a large very sweet baklava and (a recommendation) a traditional Greek orange cake in a sweet sauce! Both very good Staff were lovely and very friendly. We also loved the ambience and decor! Recommend :)

After reading so many good reviews online I decided to give it a try took my 2 little grandsons and partner there after pantomime in the afternoon. The service was warm and polite. Myself and grandsons had meat balls and rice or chips the meat balls were very salty rice was under cooked and lukewarm, My partner ordered kebabs rice and salad the meat was very dried stick to the skewers poor guy had to run to bathroom several times afterward. Wrose experience ever after many years of eating out. Not because my little grandsons had to be home as it was getting late i would have returned all the foods back and walked out

Went for an impromptu supper on a Friday night. Incredibly attentive and welcoming staff and fantastic food at very reasonable prices. The deep fried pitta bread stuffed with feta with honey was a show stopper. Will definitely be going back soon. Highly recommend.

First up- the food is lovely (except the tasteless houmous). The prices have gone up again. I've been a regular here and bought friends here. The owner is notably eccentric but he was downright insulting to my friend. The owner tends to talk up the health benefits of the salad while serving it. My friend doesn't drink and while doing this he told he she should stop drinking Sprite because so she would lose weight. Our friend had asked him not to comment but he continued and she was quite upset.The owner has no right to comment on choices of paying customers this way, nor to make insulting comments about women's bodies like this.He completely ruined our night and I won't be bringing anyone back here.

Fantastic menu, excellent taste, properly mediterranean. You will not find anything similar in London. Far from commercial and pre-made rubbish, everything is genuine. Owner and family are running the place and they are adorable.

Recommended by a friend. Lovely friendly restaurant with great value, home cooked food and drink. £13.50 a head gets you 4 courses. Everything was delicious. The soup at the start was one of my favourites. As well as the beetroot dip, chicken, lamb and veg main. We will be coming here again! Louis is very sweet.

Been a couple of times and always enjoyed. Only one thing to order mere but so many options come in this! Don’t fill yourself up at the start as dishes just keep appearing. Love the guy who owns it who has a passion for his food. Would recommend for a great tasting, good value meal out. Go hungry!

I was looking for a nice authentic Greek restaurant to go to dinner for a special occasion. After reading a few positive reviews I chose Sappho Meze Bar but I have to say I was very disappointed. The restaurant is quite shabby and dark but I didn't want this to put me off. There is no printed menu, just a set menu (with a vegetarian option thankfully) at a set price. I didn't want to be put off by this either. However, we had an unfortunate incident with one of the dishes and the response to this was simply an apology. Overall, in my opinion the service was sub-standard, the food was below average compared to other Greek restaurants in London and, although they say they keep their prices low, the bill was definitely not cheaper than other mid-range places. They even added service charge in spite of the food incident we had. I would not go there again and I am sorry to say that I would not recommend this place.

Great food served by the very savvy owner. Beyond what I’d expect in Clapham. The price fixed menu was fantastic. If you miss Greece, this place takes you there delivering high quality food at a reasonable price. Hope to be back soon!

Met friends at this very understated restaurant. The owner / chef is very nice and chatty. The food was really very good and wholesome and tasty. And to top it off the cost is very reasonable- fantastic value.

After been living in Athens for years, I today got to London. It is the best restaurant with Greek food, I must be honest. Fantastic tasty food, very friendly and experienced owner on the floor, and Wonderfull vine. I am not easy to please, but this is amazing.

Saturday evening meal with 5 friends, some of whom are regulars at Sappho and I am not surprised why. The fixed price menu is superb value for money with course after course of extremely tasty and healthy food hitting the table, The owner obviously takes great pride and passion in the dishes he creates and serves and everything about this is place is absolutely faultless. The Greek red wine is also a steal at £15.50 a bottle. Fortunately I will be having my second visit within a week this evening. Can't wait!

Don't be fooled by its seemingly basic interior, this is a superb restaurant with authentic food and gorgeous Greek wines at very affordable prices. As a local, this is our go - to place for any date night, visiting family or evening with friends. The owner is just wonderful, full of anecdotes, Greek language lessons and health tips! He will certainly give you a giggle and ensure you have an amazing night.There's no menu to order from, but you simply state if you're a meat eater or veggie and wait! There are four amazing courses that are bursting with fresh flavours - you leave feeling full but not uncomfortably so, as the food is so excellent! This little gem is an amazing place.We went on the recommendation of my daughter's friend. Best recommendation ever.We were treated like family the owner/ chef made sure that we ate like Greeks bringing us the most delicious homemade hummus, tzadzki, pickles taramasalata and the freshest homemade bread.The mains were just like we were in a taverna on the mainland melting lamb, succulent chicken and salad freshly made, mine minus coriander, our vegetarian was catered for with a huge portion of vegetable mousaka made freshly for him.The service was quick and attentive even though the tiny restaurant was full and it was just the chef/owner and a kitchen hand.The evening reminded me of summer evenings with my Yaya & Papou in our second home in Athens. Food, family, wine & chat.I can't recommend Sappho Meze highly enough. Next time we are visiting London we will be back.A must for hungry travellers and families who want good honest fresh food.The homemade yogurt is the best I've had in the UK.

You know when you're craving fresh, homemade exotic food that's followed recipes for generations? Yeah, well this is like you've been taken into someone's rustic Mediterranean hillside villa and they're serving you food until you can't move.The value is exceptional and the quantity of food is astounding. It's all fresh and homemade. You order one of three options: meat, vegetarian or vegan. We almost always opt for the meat one which includes a light chickpea soup broth, a pickled vegetable plate. This is followed by beautiful warm crusty bread with about a dozen different dips and antipasto options. Be careful not to fill up on this!Next is a selection of chicken cooked in a fragrant oil marinade, pork pieces, and the mighty dish of them all: slow cooked lamb that falls off the bone. This generous meat selection is accompanied by a rice dish and one or two salad dishes.If you're still not full (you will be) there is a plate of Greek yoghurt and honey to force down. We always roll out of this place but are always 100% content with the quality and flavours of the food. We've taken a number of different groups here who have all raved about the food.Don't expect an exquisite decor but I think it adds to the charm.I really love this place and it's one of my favourite places to dine out in London.

We found one hair in the bread and one in the dip. Owner was nice but clearly a bit mad - Starter consisted of raw carrots and spring onions, followed by a load of bread and 10 homemade dips - pork was tough, lamb was fatty and the yoghurt at the end was lumpy as if it had curdled. It's one of our neighborhood faves. The proprietor comes out and has chats to you about how healthy he is because he eats this food. He's 70! and cooks all the food and waiters to boot. It's a quirky little place and the food is decently good- a few of the mezes are outstanding and the vege mousakka is very good. Everything is very homemade and tasty, and you can't beat a dinner for two with drinks for under 40.

Have to say I agree with the small minority that have rated this place average or below. It was ok, I had big expectations as i had walked past here numerous times and I really liked the idea of it... Local understated authentic Greek restaurant serving good food at a good price with a set menu. Felt like could be a real experience, slightly eccentric with one guy, probably owner, managing the whole place with occasional banter to customers. However I'm afraid that the food was slightly underwhelming, the mezze platter wasn't great and the main of chicken pork and lamb was better but the pork was tough. The accompanying salad was the highlight for me, really fresh and tasty but on the whole I just felt it wasn't anything special and was slightly disappointed. Then came the bill which ended up being much more than expected. We had a couple drinks each additional but the bill was massive for two people on a set menu of £11.50 each. I just thought it was overpriced and actually pretty bad and I was more than ready to give this place the benefit of the doubt. I am afraid I wouldn't go here again but I am going to get my Greek mate to go and give me his verdict as still curious as to the outstanding reviews listed here. I don't get it personally

If I was walking down Clapham High Street and not been specifically looking for Sappho I would have easily walked past. It's small and keeps the treats inside a secret...I visited as part of a group of 8 people. There were a few nibbles on the table (olives, pickled carrots, peppers) while we waited for everyone to arrive and then the food started coming out. There wasn't a menu that I was aware of, just the question of whether you were ok eating meat, if there was anything you couldn't eat. The "starters" consisted of about 10 small dishes of dips (houmous, tzatziki, taramosalata,etc), beans, aubergine, mushrooms and more all servers with the most delicious warm and crusty bread to dunk in everything.The main course included chicken, lamb, rice, potatoes and the most amazing salad sort of thing (coriander, possibly cabbage, cucumber - if you know what it was called let me know!) and the meal was finished with a simple dish of Greek yogurt topped with honey.It's a really small restaurant - there were probably 30/40 chairs - and it was a little cramped and loud but it all added to the atmosphere. The kitchen is open so you could see what was going on (always a good sign!) and the server/cook/possibly the owner was welcoming and friendly. The food was seasoned to perfection and full of flavour.The only reason I didn't give this place a full 5 stars is because there were times the service was a little slow and it took a while for he cheque to come out. As far as I could see here were only two members of staff (the man who served and did some bits in the kitchen and a man who was solely on the kitchen) so can understand things being a bit slow.Would I return if I was in that neck of the woods? 2nd time at this mezzanine greek restaurant. Owner/waiter was friendly and was passionate about his food and talked about the health benefits. You had to listen carefully as his English was very poor. Had 5 courses but they were very tiny for 2 adults. Started with carrot sticks with green and black olives tin porion. Then spinach and chickpea soup which was OK. Then bread with several dips which was OK. Then pork lion and one potatoe small but ok, then fatty lamb very fatty with a nice green salad with rice. To finish a very tiny potion of honey and Greek to finish for two. Okay value if you have a small stomach.

A low key and simple eatery near Clapham Nth Station. We went for the Meze as that seemed to be the speciality. We were not disappointed. The food was very tasty and plentiful. We went to Sappho Meze Bar one evening of our trip in London, since it was close to the placed we stayed at and the TripAdvisor's rating was excellent. We were greeted by the owner and were asked about our tastes in food. The owner was pleased with the fact we came from Israel, as it served Mediterranean food which we are familiar with. We both went for a full meal and drinks.For starters, Meze is served, which are basically greek variation of Tapas. Each Meze was great by itself and altogether with others, we nearly got full just from the starters!For the main course, a lamb with rice was served and grilled chicken in oregano. The owner told us it would be the best chicken we ever had - he was not wrong! Both dishes were delicious and big. It was a shame to leave such good food as we were full so we took away what was left with us. By that late hour we were alone with the owner and had little chat with him. He was very nice and kind and did payed attention throughout the whole meal, whether it was salad with and without coriander for me and my wife, or any other request we had. It might be not as cheap as I expected, but then again the meals were huge and the table was full of food, so it is priced very well.I would definitely come back to this place in my next visit to London, if I'd be around that area

This restaurant is such a hidden gem, the food is amazing and the service makes you feel right at home. I've been here a few times and always take friends to eat as the food never disappoints and it's so reasonable! Anywhere that sells mythos beer is always a winner for me!

I have been to this restaurant twice now and it is fantastic. We had the tasting menu which consisted of 4 courses of meze. The food was very served by the owner/host/chef/waiter, he was brilliant. would recommend this place to anyone!

Enjoyed everything about it, simple and tasty food. If I lived nearby I'd be in every week. 4 courses, fixed price, felt like eating with a greek family.

This place is an absolute gem. Myself and my girlfriend visited for the second time yesterday and once again, it did not disappoint. The food is really good, it comes in large portions and best of it, it's really cheap! £11.50 for the whole mezze (pastry, olives, carrots, soup, loads of dips and bread followed by amazing meat dishes with salads, rice and potatoes) is incredible value. It feels like the Greek uncle you never had is cooking for you! Absolutely lovely little place and the gentleman serving and cooking is an absolute delight. They also have vegetarian and vegan mezzes available for the same price. 10/10.

We affectionally refer to this restaurant as "The Greek" and I cannot recommend it highly enough. You select a meat (best option), veg or vegan set menu and a medley of authentic Greek food is delivered to your table. I recommend you arrive hungry and go on a week night as the owner/chef will also serve you. Get him chatting and i promise he has more wisdom than a Greek God! I am an incredibly fussy and judgemental diner - to be honest my best friend thought i would turn my nose up the first time she took me here for the lack of white table cloths.This place does not look like much from the outside but the kitchen is immaculate and the owner is so passionate about Greek products and his food.
