Sao Paulo by Caroline Martins in Manchester

One of my favourite restaurants in Manchester, great classic Brazilian food which you'd recognise from Sao Paulo but done in a way that's all her own. The food tastes great, the caipirinhas are lovely and if you're into wine or fancy trying cachaças you'll be fine there too. We've brought friends here multiple times and each time it hits the mark!

We have never actually eaten here as we were really excited for our booking and booked a hotel in Manchester as well as getting childcare for the evening. On the night we were turned away saying they had double booked us with an apology saying they would look after us when we rebooked. We rebooked for this Saturday and today I received another message to say again they are sorry and they have double booked so would have to cancel us when we have already paid for a hotel in Manchester. I was obviously very upset and sent a message saying this has to be a joke and they needed to fix this and my response was….. I’m Sorry but we will have to block you from future bookings to protect there staff!!!??? I am beyond confused, shocked and appalled at the standard of customer service. This is not how you treat people. Me and my partner have spent £340 now on 2 hotels in Manchester, train tickets and childcare for this. If you book please don’t set your heart on going or travel to Manchester for it as you could be turned away with no intention to fix it.

So informative and interesting information about both food and drink

A rare treat in Manchester to go somewhere different and have a chef and maitre de who are passionate about Brazilian cuisine. It felt very special like being in someone front room. Brazilian food mixed with genuine local ingredients which the chef had sourced locally and explained where she got them from. Go and enjoy you won’t be disappointed

A great afternoon with friends and family. Caroline is a very talented and passionate chef and that comes across in her food. The restaurant is only 8 covers around the edge of the kitchen so you feel involved and almost part of the team as each dish is prepared right in front of you. The drinks pairings were very good and the whole experience is worth the money (and compared to other restaurants around Manchester a lot cheaper). Will definitely visit again to see what Caroline and the team dream up.

This was really good. We were feet away from the chefs, so the atmosphere was great. Service and food were brilliant, and unbelievably good value for money. Definitely recommend.

This is my new favourite restaurant. Every course was an experience…truly incredible! Everything from the atmosphere, the food, the drinks, the kind host….it was perfection. I’m rarely left speechless by food, so this was a welcome surprise! Already planning our next reservation!

Caroline’s cooking is amazing and so creative. Came with friends and tried everything on the menu - each dish full of surprises and really exceptional. Can’t wait for the next pop up!

We had an amazing evening of out-of-this-world food, and great company! We were served by Caroline’s husband who made sure we were looked after all evening! Our favourite dish on the taster menu was the second course of the Cassava and Cheddar waffle which I’ve attached 2 photos of (big fan!). They also used a lot of local produce such as the Platt Fields Market Garden vegetables (seen in the photo attached in the little plant pot- too cute!). It’s so lovely to see so much thought put not only into the cooking, but also the sourcing of ingredients! We were also lucky enough to try the Batata-Baroa Brioche buns with caramelised onion butter, and a beef fat candle!! It was very fun to dunk the brioche into the melted cow fat- who knew?!! Overall we had an fantastic time. The value for money for such high food quality is a steal, and I strongly urge anyone to try the taster course!

We attended the taster menu for my partner's birthday. Absolutely fantastic experience, I'd implore anyone tempted to try this to go for it. Every dish had an exciting Brazilian element, each with their place. Absolutely not a gimmick, they added excitement, flavour or texture as required. I'll not spoil the menu but favourites include the scallops with palm hearts and heritage tomato gazpacho. Our host was absolutely delightful and brought each dish to life with context to his and Caroline's travels in Brazil hunting down the ingredients. We rarely treat ourselves like this and they made us feel so welcome and at home.(thank you for answering all my ingredient questions, Caroline is a font of knowledge). At the price this is an absolute steal, and I'm certain Caroline will be a big name in the next few years. You'll kick yourself if you miss out now. Thank you both so much for making my partner's birthday so special, I wish you both all the well deserved success in the years to come.

Came here on recommendation from our foodie daughter and son in law,and so glad we did! It was our wedding anniversary, and this was a fabulous way to spend it! Caroline is a very talented chef who showcases a side to Brazilian food that I did not know. We tried many fruit and veg that had never had before, including the tongue tingling final petit four Jambi fruit! It was great to try local Garstang cheese too! My favourite dish was the gazpacho with tomatoes and citrus sorbet, perfect on a very hot evening.should mention Tim, who did a great job serving us and explaining the dishes, so friendly,made the experience even better…good teamwork guys! We will be back!

We ordered 12-course menu for dinner. There is only one guy in charge of beverages who was quite rude and took forever to get us a bottle of wine. This is the only reason we take 1 star off. The food and dessert by Caroline were amazingly good and memorable. Highly recommended just for food.

What an amazing culinary experience at @saopaulo_project 🇧🇷 🍽 🍷 If you havent been yet you MUST!!! A journey through Brazilian flavours from @caroline_gl_martins childhood. Each of the 12 courses were superb and we loved trying Palm Tree and Kohlrabi for the first time. The Cumari Pepper was next level too! The showstoppers were the Beef Fat Candle and Psychedelic Chocolate .... no words can describe. A truly wonderful evening! Thank you @caroline_gl_martins and Tim 🙏🏻
