We are staying in a holiday cottage locally & after visiting Wastwater came for lunch. I had tuna mayo sandwich and my husband had a sausage sandwich. I had a cold drink & Terry, a coffee. There was a nice fresh salad with the tuna sandwich. I did find the filling quite bland as it didn't have any seasoning. It was a generous helping though. The salad was nice. The property itself needs some TLC, particularly outside as the tables and chairs all have peeling cracked paint. You can hear the river rushing along which is lovely and robins visit the tables for crumbs.

(Delicious) honest tea room with delicious pastries! Service very friendly. We only had tea and pastries, but the hot food looked very good! Highly recommended, even in bad weather, very enjoyable!

Charming out of the way location serving good home made food. Over the weekend it's highly advisable to book, essential for Sunday lunch, if you wish to secure a table. The food and service is excellent.

Having first been here about 30 years ago with my late Mum, I wanted to show my husband the place I fell in love with all those years ago (not Cumbrian natives!) Treated him to a cream tea lunch and we were really impressed. Food was delicious, wait was perfect considering they were at the 3pm rush! Bought back a lot of memories and I am delighted they are still here. It's probably changed hands over the years but still had the same feel it did all those years ago, and I managed to get my Kendal Mint Cake selection pack! Thank you for bringing back a wonderful memory!

We arrived at the tea room and gift shop after a trip out to the church at Gosforth and we were ready for some food and a drink by this time. The staff were friendly, we put our orders in and waited with anticipation for it to arrive. After a bit of a wait we got our drinks, four coffees which were really nice. We had pretty much finished our coffee by the time our food arrived so there was a bit of a wait and unfortunately one order was wrong as bread had been buttered whilst specifically asking for it not to be. However that was sorted after another wait. Our mains finished we decided to order four teas and four cakes for pudding. After another wait two cakes out of the four arrived which were consumed whilst we all waited for our tea and the other two cakes to arrive. Unfortunately in the end no tea or cake had arrived after what we considered to be too long to wait so we just paid for what we had consumed and left. I can't fault the quality of the food or the coffee we had but unfortunately we all felt the service let our experience of the tea room down. Thanks for the reply we were there today Saturday 25th May 24

We have visted here many times but it has changed hands and we found it soooo disappointing. The staff were bickering constantly. And our food was tastless. We had the cream tea which came with sandwich if choice. We had cheese and pickle. The cheese was so thin and tastless we could only taste the pickle. My scone was OK as a bit under cooked hubby's was overcooked n dry. Was so disappointed we won't be visiting here again. We used to love the ploughman's platters here sadly they no longer do them. The gift shop is a shadow of its former self and that's if you can get served. We waited n waited to pay for some stuff in gift shop gave up and left stuff in the end. So we will not return here. Thank you for replying we visted 7th April. Rang the bell 4 x to pay for stuff in shop. No one came to serve us. The staff bickering was a male and a youngish female.

This is a regular stop when cycling in the area. Nice food and friendly staff. They also cater to gluten and dairy free needs. You can sit inside or outside at the cafe, the adjacent craft shop has a comfy coffee shop where dogs are allowed inside while you enjoy the same great food.

Called in today with grand daughter after a hike up & down Irton Pike. She had a slice of chocolate cake which she ate but it was very dry. Service was spot on as usual. No problems with my tea and cappuccino cake.

Our recent experiences in cafes have been really good and maybe our expectations were too high. Unfortunately the food was below average, service was pleasant enough but no atmosphere probably due to lack of customers. Not somewhere we will return.

This is a little gem of a cafe and gift shop with lovely food and atmosphere, nestled on the roadside about 1 minute drive from Santon Bridge. Even though the cafe is quite isolated it does get busy even out of season when the locals frequent it. Well worth a visit.

A few of us went for early breakfast yesterday. The staff and owners made us feel very welcome and the service was great. The tearoom is very clean and well laid out. Plenty of options from cakes/scones and tray bakes. The breakfast/milkshake and coffee were fab and plenty of it. We will definitely be making regular return visits. Thankyou

I couple of friends and I popped in from breakfast this morning (one of the only places locally that's offers breakfast). We were greeted with a smile and a genuine hello as we entered and a devine aroma of sweet treats. We all had the traditional breakfast and it there was no issue with us making a change/requests. The lady who served us was dutifully, and more than happy to help if we needed anything while we waited for out food. When the food arrived I was surprised at the amount of food on the plate. I unfortunately didn't get a picture as there was no way I waiting to indulge. It's was amazing! Everything was beautifully cooked, and the best part is was the proper runny fried egg! Delicious! 100% would recommend! When we went to pay there was an AMAZING display of cakes, tray bakes and scones. The lady behind the counter information is that they had even more cakes and goodies that they couldn't fit in their bursting display and goodness. If I hadnt already inhaled a massive breakfast I would have had a piece for sure! The location is so scenic and beautiful and dog friendly. There is even a gift shop with local goodies in which I will be visiting sometime soon. A beautiful place, great food and helpful happy staff.

This was on our to do list while in area, sadly we will not be visiting again, the foul stench from the septic tank was unbearable, one couple left their meal as unable to eat it, if it was me I would have demanded my money back, when you have dogs you stay outside, it needs to be sorted urgently as it's gross. There wasn't mush selection of cakes as it sates on their website there is a good selection. First and last visit.

Visited yesterday for breakfast. After reading other reviews we had high hopes. Arrived to an empty cafe so figured service would be fairly swift. Staff were friendly, but after ordering a breakfast and a bacon sandwich with two coffees we were left sat waiting 40 minutes for the food. Our coffees arrived quickly and were great, can't fault the coffee! However, we could've drank these 5 times over by the time our food arrived. I was excited for the breakfast including treats such as fried bread and black pudding, but the bread was so over fried it was like eating bricks. I wasn't sure if the crunching was my teeth, or the bread. The black pudding, I was hoping for a a crisp outer, however this was still more mush than anything. Sausage was delicious, egg spot on, but the bacon was also overcooked and tough to eat (and I'm a fan of well-done bacon). My partner's bacon was extremely fatty so a lot of this ended up with our dog. Venue is lovely though! If I'm waiting 40 minutes for food, at least the place was nice to sit and the staff were welcoming! Just a shame the breakfast was disappointing!
