Santiago Restaurant in High Peak

What a great tapas restaurant. The food, the staff, the atmosphere were all exceptional. We were seeing a band at the opera house and came to Santiagos pre gig. Seriously one of the best tapas restaurants outside of Spain. Can’t fault anything. The pigs cheek were to die for. The chicken chorizo and chickpea stew was so flavourful. Great wine list. Lovely staff, great atmosphere what more could you ask for. We will definitely be back & are planning to bring our parents in the near future. Perfect start to a great evening, thanks so much guys. What amazing food, lots of variety, the menu was clearly labelled, with the correct amount of advice for how much to order and it was spot on. Lovely atmosphere and great sangria.

The service was very good. Based on the Tripadvisor reviews we expected better. Sadly the seating was cramped, the Calamari over cooked and the Churros under cooked. Can't see me going back anytime soon.

Best meal I've had in years! Santiago has won our hearts. First of all, we were accompanied by a Great Dane. The staff were absolutely wonderful and couldn't have been more accommodating. Even the owner came over to say hello. The atmosphere had a lovely buzz - lots of chatter and the venue is well lit and feels very authentic. The food was INCREDIBLE. We ordered far too much but we couldn't stop eating. We had everything from seafood, meat stews, cheeses and vegetable dishes - nothing was less than exceptional. Gorgeous selection of wine too! We can't wait to come back. 💖

Excellent tapas and good choice of wine by the glass. We have eaten in many tapas places in Spain and not a few in the UK. Of the latter this is one of the best. The service was spot on, the food arrived quickly (despite it being a busy Friday night) and was of very good quality. On top of that they even offer Muga rosado as a wine by the glass - a top pink. The Hacienda Grimon red was also very good. If I were being picky I'd say that the tables are a little too close together but they are at least cleverly arranged so as not to feel intrusive. Oh and it'd be nice to have the option of some fino sherry next time as we'll certainly be back when next in Buxton.

Came here for a pre-show meal. Was hesitant due to reviews. Pleasantly surprised - came around 5.30pm and it was quiet. Food came out promptly and all together, one item was missed but we were too full. Wine was lovely. Staff were so friendly and attentive. Atmosphere was nice. Food wasn’t anything special for me personally and I’ve had better Tapas but the other members of the party thoroughly enjoyed it and said they would be back - they raved about the black pudding balls aaaaall night. Dip for the bread basket was incredible and I meant to ask for a recipe! Bill came to around £100 for 4 of us, including 4x large wines, 2 mixers and 10 tapas which we thought was super reasonable.

Came here last night with friends as a group of 9. The restaurant was absolutely packed but that did not affect the service in any way, the staff were quick, incredibly helpful and so welcoming. The food is out of this world, my only regret is that I have now tasted it and want it all the time. I could try making it at home but it's like when you try to do your own nandos at home, it's never the same. I will have to live in constant misery until the next time I go. The pricing is also incredibly reasonable, I was shocked at the final bill as it was substantially lower than what you would expect given the clearly high standard of the restaurant. If you're on the shelf about going then don't be, it is well worth a visit and exceeds every penny you spend

I booked a table here for Sunday by accident, when I actually meant to book for Saturday, before seeing a show at Buxton Opera House. The restaurant was fully booked, but they kindly squeezed us in, and couldn’t have been kinder. The food was amazing too! Great place, great staff and great food!

Have eaten here a few times and service and food is excellent. However on this occasion there was a slight disappointment in the fact that I asked for the salted fish cakes off the specials board but was told that I couldn’t have any because they were being saved for the evening diners . Are lunch time customers not as important as the evening ones ?

My absolute favourite restaurant. I live in Buxton and this is the best restaurant in Buxton by far. The food is brilliant and in my experience of other tapas places, i think the prices are very fair. The staff are all lovely and the decor/ambience inside is great. The sangria is the best and the croquettes are unreal. My one criticism is that the chorizo in red wine is far too salty- please please can you add chorizo in honey to the menu.

We all absolutely loved it - every dish was really fabulous with plenty of choice for everyone. The staff are great and restaurant atmosphere makes for a great night out. Cannot wait to go again!

Been a few times to this local restaurant and it’s generally good. But, avoid busier times and you will have a much better experience as the food is nice, otherwise be prepared for cramped table set up, poor service and noise levels so high it’s almost impossible to hold a conversation-staff literally inches away to be heard. Food tends to be served from the kitchen when ready so it will arrive adhoc. Presentation of food is always nice. Portion sizes variable. Ok value for money.
