Santa Marina Italian Restaurant and Bar in Scottish Borders

Food was exceptional reasonably priced and the service was good. We will definitely return when back in Hawick and recommend to anyone looking for excellent food.

My friends and I recently went to this restaurant for the first time. It was a wonderful experience, and we were served by a delightful young man with a tremendous mullet. We believe he said he was from Musselburgh but we never caught his name. The only disappointment of this experience is we never got his social media. Hit us up, Mullet Man! You’re great!

Top class restaurant with a nice family vibe. The staff were extremely attentive and the food was excellent. I would struggle to find fault.

Whilst this is local to us two, following the AGM for the Campaign for Borders Rail we were part of a party of 15 who booked a meal here at the end of October. The remaining 13 guests were not from Hawick, being from London, Blackpool, York, Perth, Edinburgh, Carlisle to name a few and they were all much impressed with the venue. The food, service, staff and attention to detail for us all was great and they were most complimentary about the whole evening. So well done to all at Santa Marina, you created the right ambience for such a large party and particularly to those from outwith Hawick who indicated they would return if in the town again

Very good service, food very nice but quite salty, atmosphere spoilt by noise from kitchen. Someone has their mobile phone on and was clearly chatting on a personal video call. We were sitting quite a way away from the kitchen area but it was very intrusive. Quite a lot of shouting too from this area. Food tasted fresh and was well presented but my pizza was really very salty. The starters were very nice. We had not been to Santa Marina in some while and were a bit disappointed sadly. The staff were very professional and friendly, can’t fault the service but the other issues put a dampener on our meal. Not sure we would return in a hurry.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at this restaurant and I must say, it was a delightful experience. The pizza was absolutely fantastic! The crust was perfectly crispy and the toppings were fresh and delicious. The combination of flavors was truly mouthwatering. The service was impeccable, with attentive and friendly staff. The ambiance was cozy and inviting, making it a great place to relax and enjoy a meal. I highly recommend trying their pizza – it's definitely one of the best I've had. Overall, a wonderful dining experience that I would happily repeat. Well done, and keep up the great work!

I’ve visited this Italian restaurant since it opened many years ago. The quality of the food is to the highest standard, always piping hot and decent portions. They also cater extremely well for coeliacs and also have a children’s menu. Always made to feel very welcome and they also make a nice fuss of any children present. Comfortable booths are often available. Good selection of cocktails and also have Birra Moretti on draft. Prices affordable and the wine list is also reasonably priced. A beer garden is available when the weather is decent. Can highly recommend

Excellent Spot. People are good, meal was very good. Caitlin and Nico were our servers and manager for the evening. Would highly recommend. I had the 28oz steak and ate the whole thing!

Looking for a place to eat that allowed dogs was proving difficult in Hawick. The barmaid at the Waverley bar mentiond that she could phone and ask the Santa Marina Italian if they did. So the four adults and 2 dogs headed down and what turned out to be a crackin meal, many thanks to the staff for making us feel so welcome, thoroughly recommend this restaurant.

Went here for my daughters birthday meal. Great atmosphere, great food and the people are so welcoming and friendly even when you have 3 small children. Love this place!

Quite tasteless and very unauthentic Italian food. There were 4 of us and 3 were uncomfortable post lunch and one took ill. Best avoided.

Selected this place based on Google review scores of 4.6. Big mistake - by far the least appetising and least authentic Italian food I have had including the ones I cook. Extremely flavourless food - bruschetta was toast with tomato and some mozzarella on it, the veggie pasta had frozen peas as a veggie ( Mediterranean food needs fresh veggies) and of all things turmeric on the penne (maybe they thought I am Indian and hence put heaps of turmeric in). Olive oil had to be asked for but what was provided was not even virgin. I should have suspected something when I saw burgers on the menu but placed my faith on Google review scores. So in summary stay away if you want flavourful authentic Italian,, but if you just want to fill your tummy.... Go for it. Oops forgot to mention - the fresh orange juice came out of a Tropicana for sure... And not a mention that this was not fresh even though there of us on the table ordered fresh orange juice.

Went here with heavy weight champ (Scotland u26s) for some pre fight grub. did not disappoint - diavolo had our big man ready to go 🥊 Hunrgy to win, never lose. KEEKZ. THE. KING. (of Hawick)

Went to get pizza and was just before 7 when they stopped serving but was told very rudely they were very busy, as we were visitors we knew nowhere, when my husband asked for recommendations we was great with go and look at the takeaways. Said they were busy but never even offered for us to sit in.

Great restaurant, perfect food. There is also live music.

Every time I've been to Santa Marina it has been exceptional. The food is always amazing, the only place in the Borders you can completely guarantee you'll enjoy your meal, doesn't matter if you're sitting in or taking away, in a group or just 1 or 2 people, adults, children, everything is always wonderful. The team there are always friendly, can't do enough for you, and the atmosphere is great. 100% recommend.

Good service. Fabulous starter & main courses, good quality and great taste. Decent bottle of red too. Only disappointment was deserts, mock cream and little flavour.

Very pleasantly surprised by our off-the-cuff visit recent (we did book same-day for a party of 6). Service was very friendly and personable. Food quality was high, and the drinks selection top-notch. Would definitely visit again when in the area.

Great choice of food well cooked and very reasonable

Large party so long table, my starter was the Goats Cheese dish, so a great start for me, this was delicious, and would definitely order this again, my main was a pasta and cheese dish but honestly, there was no sauce, it was dry and very bland, my desert was a Nutella cheesecake but id bet my bottom dollar this was straight from the cash and carry, very synthetic, not enjoyable which for me being a pudding lover was another huge disappointment. Service and drinks were all great venue was lovely. this was my 1st visit and through choice will likely be my last. Sorry, I like home-cooked good quality food. Sadly this isn't what I got.

Lovely spacious restaurant and friendly staff with very good service. PaneAglio very good, haggis bites were enjoyed. Nice pizza although I like them slightly crispier. Very nice selection of desserts and delicious ice cream

Fab Italian, you cant go wrong with anything you order.

Enjoyed my lunch with school friends. The food was lovely. Service was good apart from spoiling my friends meal by putting large spoonfuls of parmesan cheese on it, when she didn't ask or want it so had to wait for a new meal to be cooked. Then the same waitress dropped cutlery, then picked it up and placed it on the table!! Felt rushed to finish off our drinks and leave even though there were plenty of tables.

On our most recent visit the food was excellent as always but unfortunately staff werent very friendly. Shame as could of been 5 star

Fantastic Italian restaurant in Hawick. It was that good, we visited on two separate occasions during our stay in the borders. Super friendly staff, dog friendly & most importantly, really fresh & delicious authentic Italian food.

Very good dinner, nice service too. One group did storm out near us after being reminded they were over an hour late for their booking - not the restaurant's fault!

Ordered garlic bread as a starter , very disappointed, it was just a couple of them oval shaped slices you get in a pack from a frozen food shop, Don’t know why but i was at least hoping for something better from a Italians , very very tasteless. Pizza was ok tho

The restaurant was recommended to us by an owner of another Italian restaurant in Broxburn . Just not had a chance to visit , but being half term out daughter was keen to try . Well what a find the food was superb I had the lobster ravioli and to say it was the best pasta dish I have eaten outside Italy is an understatement. The three of us loved and shared all our dishes .. Great service with character ..

One of the worst experiences in my life. Horrible customer service, terrible food, it took more than a hour for the food to come around, too salty that couldn’t even taste the other food ingredients, trying hard to serve Italian food.

In Hawick for a couple of days and wish we'd found this restaurant yesterday! Very pleasant, comfortable and welcoming surroundings. Staff very friendly and happy at work. Food was fresh and tasty. I had the Pollo Casa and it was absolutely delicious. Finished off with one of the best grappas we've tasted. Will definitely return if we're in the area in the future. We'll done guys.

Not an inviting eatery, due mainly to manager who is sullen, doesn't welcome you , nor smiles. Food bland- unimaginative vegetarian dishes, which were limited in the pasta section. No pleasanteries by staff when we visited yet they happily chatted, joking with other diners. We were put at a table next to the kitchen, twice! We asked for a different table (booth or in a quieter area)on both occasions but they wouldn't give us the choice, made feeble reasons as to why we couldn't. Yet clearly the tables were vacant as they remained unoccupied during the whole time we were there. Manager wasn't polite or friendly, didn't ask if we enjoyed the meal. Only one member of their staff who was pleasant was a younger guy who was nice with us both times. We went as we heard it was really good, but what a let down particularly on the second visit- the curt manner of the manager wasn't acceptable. No please or thankyou, no cheerful conversation , nothing! Glad we didn't leave a tip. Do not recommend this restaurant.

Lovely food, good portions for money, friendly staff. Seafood risotto was gorgeous.

It was a last minute decision to come here for dinner and we were so glad we did. Dinner was lovely and the service absolutely spot on. We had our daughter with us (2yo) and she thoroughly enjoyed her olives, pizza and ice cream. Would highly recommend and will definitely come again next time we are staying in the borders.
