Salt Hamilton in South Lanarkshire

Very disappointed the food is seriously overrated and overpriced for what it was no worth the hype or the money. We use a gift voucher to pay for our meal which we did not use the full amount and was told we could not get change I was not expecting change but as it was not just a few pounds left over I asked could we not get another voucher then for the difference and we were told no. Considering they had already been paid for the voucher this is a very unfair policy . Will not be returning

Excellent food and reasonable prices for such quality. Great selection for all diets, whether you want meat, vegetarian, vegan or pescatarian dishes. Or just want to enjoy any of the many excellent dishes offered up. We had a mix of everything and nobody had to compromise on their choices. Delicious whiskey sour and good quality beers. Essential to book in advance as it is rightly very popular. Probably my favourite restaurant in the UK.

My second visit to Salt - friendly service from knowledgeable staff. Food is fresh and top quality - good portions, decent amounts of the expensive ingredients (I.e. the meats) and lovely flavours. It's a must visit if you're in Hamilton or nearby.

Been here numerous times and never really been disappointed and went again after not being there for about 2 years and it’s still the same high standards as before. If you haven’t been before I’d honestly recommend it We were seated in a big booth with plenty room (we hadn’t booked) The serving staff were lovely and very friendly We opted for different dishes like a Asian tapas so we could try quite a lot Unfortunately they had no haggis for the haggis and curry fries so we opted for the fries with Japanese curry sauce which is something I’d never order for myself but they were tremendous with a great sauce My wife had Bang bang prawns and pork belly bao bun which she said were absolutely delicious and were served lovely I had the chicken wings and the chicken bao bun which I’ve got to say had beautiful flavours My wife ordered frickles which were battered pickles and said they were nice enough but probably too much batter and not enough pickles for her liking I had a few iced waters but my wife ordered a salt raspberry mule which she described as lush It’s high standards here and beautiful decor and nice toilets so can’t find anything bad to say Definitely worth a visit

Another one on the list that I've wanted to visit for a long time having heard only good things about the place. One word needed to describe the place - exceptional. Staff are super friendly, tasteful decoration complimented with a soundtrack to suit. Food was delicious, so much choice and plenty of vegetarian options available. All dishes were well presented. Attention to detail, from staff that evidently have passion for what they serve. Cannot recommend this place enough. I will definitely be back soon.

Requires reservation. Unable to book reservation via telephone. Website is mandatory for reservation. When you do try and reserve a table, the website wants the following: name, telephone number, email address and bank details. Happy to give most information, but not bank information to simply book a table which seems excessive and is extremely offputting. The website also states some charges may apply, but is vague and non-specific about what those charges are in my opinion. Looking at Terms of Service it states "We may, at our sole discretion, set fees for using the website for you. All prices are published separately on relevant pages on the website. We may, at our sole discretion, at any time change any fees" and "We may use certified payment systems, which also may have their commissions. Such commissions may be implied on you when you choose a particular payment system. Detailed information about commissions of such payment systems may be found on their websites." I'm unable to find these websites or further information as they are not suitably linked for the customer in my own opinion. I was really looking forward to experiencing Salt, however what I have mentioned above turned my enthusiasm into concern, confusion and disappointment. Happy to remove my review if these should ever change! Let us book a table without providing bank information! Thank you.

Visited SALT in Hamilton for my birthday, birthday card on our table (nice touch) , new to this type of food but everything was explained very well by Chris, great experience!

This was my 5th visit to Salt I love the vast menu with so much to choose from. The service is always speedy which is good however some times you do want a little moment between drinks and getting food served. The only thing I’d really say room for improvement would be the service. On every occasion I’ve been in the service has been a bit overbearing. I’m not sure if it’s the owner who is always checking in and making conversation, but most people just want to be left alone to enjoy their food. Love everything about the restaurant apart from this!

Pint of Asahi £6.50 but a half pint £5??? Surely the half pint should be 3.25???

Amazing food, they really know their stuff! The depth of flavours in the udon was magical. Everything was very fresh and cooked to perfection. Menu items were inventive and delivered on taste and flavour. Service was impeccable and prices reasonable. Will definitely be back!

Such a great restaurant. The staff are very attentive and friendly. The menu has a good amount of options. It's ideal to go with a foodie to mix and match options. That being said I got a katsu curry which was amazing. It's always really flavourful.

Right… when I say RUN 🏃🏻‍♂️ to here… I mean RUN!!! Like the clappers… the food is stunning! The atmosphere is warm and the drinks are on point! In a rare turn of events the staff are equally as good! Very attentive, friendly and welcoming! I highly recommend the wagu bao bun and the pickles! But everything we had was fantastic! I travelled all the way from Ayrshire for this.. well worth it! During my first visit to Salt Hamilton, the Asian menu seemed appealing and I must say that both the menu and the interior decor lived up to expectations. We ordered miso broth soup, sushi, and Katsu curry with a Scottish haggis twist, accompanied by a side order of beer cheese fries. The unique combination of Japanese and Scottish street food was high quality and fresh. We look forward to returning soon.

“Too much information Salt! We had a good dinner, enjoyed the food, especially the new ramen dishes! Food and drink was pretty quick to come and we were having a nice time. Unfortunately, one of the servers, who had been friendly, decided to share his extreme political views with us at the end of the meal and it was so awkward and perplexing, that it completely killed our vibe. We’re all for freedom of speech but there’s a time and a place. I doubt the management of Salt would want us to associate their restaurant with fascism? Have a word guys. The experience means I’m going to second guess any future trips to Salt even though we enjoyed the food a lot.

This was our first try and it didn't disappoint. We have family and friends recommending this fabulous place and the portions were great although we did order a small banquet. Did get any ones names but thank you to all the lovely staff .... John and Donna mclachlan ...

We visited Salt for my birthday at the weekend which was our second time visiting. Both visits have been amazing. The food is absolutely delicious, we normally go into Glasgow for our favourite Japanese dishes but will now prioritise Salt in Hamilton! The service is good, very friendly staff. The food comes out pretty quick & is delicious. If you’re a fan of sushi you must try the crispy rice nigiri with spicy tuna. We’ll definitely be returning.

Another fantastic night at Salt. Not only is all the food amazing, the manager and staff and the best I’ve ever had in a restaurant. We had soft shell crab Bau, dirty fries, chicken gyoza, katsu chicken curry, beef ramen, cheeseburger rolls, pork belly Bau everything amazing and delicious. We will be back Salt. 😋 Ann H

Great food. Would highly recommend he bang bang shrimp. We had the cop out Katsu curry chicken and prawn, both excellent. The whole meal which was 2 katsu curries, chicken teriyaki sushi, and shrimp bang bang were excellent. The reason I didn't give 5 stars was the time the whole experience took. It felt like FAST food. We went for a "date" night and we were done in 45 minutes. I would suggest that the food delivery was a little more delayed and I have never said this before in a review. It all felt a little rushed We were attempting a romantic meal for two. May I suggest a delay between drinks and meal to achieve a greater experience for the diner.

Back at Salt today after a few months of illness due to surgery, the meal was outstanding, absolutely beautiful, value for money was fantastic, both my wife and I had ramen, dirty fries and sushi, this was my first time trying dirty fries, they were amazing, the ramen and sushi were also beautiful, the staff were first class, making sure we had everything we required and making us feel really special and welcoming, well done to Greg for such amazing staff, an old saying people make Glasgow, Greg and his fantastic staff make SALT. Very many thanks again. We would highly recommend anyone to visit SALT for a fantastic meal. Kindest regards to all staff front and back. Charlie and Carol Poole.

Great food, friendly staff and lovely restaurant! This is the second time we have been and it was just as good as the first! This restaurant is amazing. The food is excellent, the staff are faultless - the Corn Ribs, what can I say! I have recently moved back to this area after 20yrs living in Inverness and I am delighted to discover this wee gem of a restaurant

First time visiting Salt Hamilton and it was lovely. Great food and immaculate restaurant. Staff were very attentive and friendly. The decor is lovely. Would definitely recommend. They had a lunch menu which I opted for. I got my pork belly ramen, chicken gyoza and a coke all for £15. Was the perfect portion size for me! Parking, there’s a car park called Auchingramont road car park, around the corner which is 80p for an hour, £1.20 for 2 hours

I was on a waiting list for 8:30, and the next day they reached out to let me know a table was available for that evening. I brought a friend along since it was his first visit. The service was friendly, the food was excellent, and the atmosphere was wonderful. As a vegan, I ordered several small dishes, and they were delicious. I would definitely return! :)

First time here at this restaurant and first time eating sushi, and it was great. Also ordered more different food from menu and it was great. Staff was brilliant and atmosphere and restaurant itself brilliant.

Atmosphere was great, staff very attentive and pleasant, and the food was delicious I wish my stomach was bigger.

I booked a table for 2 people instead of 4, yes my mistake. We got there they took us to our seat then said they couldn't accommodate us and we had to get back up and leave. They could have told us at the door to save our embarrassment and people staring. I have never been told to leave a restaurant before because I have had extra people any other restaurant has accommodated any changes that are made last minute and then they send me an email saying I cancelled my booking. NO I DIDN'T YOU ASKED ME TO LEAVE.

We recently dined at Salt in Hamilton and had quite a mixed experience. The Highlights The food was simply fantastic. Every dish we ordered was flavorful and beautifully presented, making it a delight for both the eyes and the palate. It's clear that the kitchen team at Salt takes great pride in their culinary creations, and their efforts certainly paid off. Room for Improvement Unfortunately, the service did not match the quality of the food. Our waitress seemed rather surly and uninterested in providing a pleasant dining experience. At one point, she came to ask if we wanted the bill when we had barely touched our coffee and tea. This occurred within less than an hour of our arrival, making us feel rushed and unwelcome. Additionally, the temperature inside the restaurant was quite cold, adding to the discomfort. Overall Impression While the food at Salt is outstanding, the overall dining experience is marred by poor service and an uncomfortable atmosphere. It's a shame, as we genuinely enjoyed the dishes we tried. With some improvements in service and ambiance, Salt could easily become a favourite dining spot.

Very disappointed with the service, 21:00 I walked into the restaurant and was told that they already closed. How rude is that! I can see that they are cleaning so due to that they refused to serve me and told me that they are closed! Empty restaurant, no signs that the restaurant is closed, according to Google Maps is marked that is open till 22:00. No respect to customers! Any early finish or working hours changes should be shared online or on Google Maps etc.. I was driving for so long to get there… i walked in, notified that we were closed and closed the door! Very Rude!

My partner and I were looking for something a bit different and stumbled across SALT’s website. Wow….absolutely amazing food! We had a selection of hot and cold starter and ramen (maybe a bit too much being honest). Staff and ambiance very friendly. Reasonably priced for a tapas style meal. Definitely going to go back again and more than likely use their takeaway service.

First visit thoroughly enjoyed an Absolutely delicious meal, plenty of variety and really tasty, helpful staff giving advice on menu. Good size portions.

As always 10/10 food & drink at Salt Hamilton ,although feel bit let down tonight on not as much the service but almost physical pushiness to get you out 😫 sadly as much as I like the food here I think I wouldn't come back for an evening meal. Just feel 1hr 15 mins is very short. (Which has actually decreased from 1hr 30)And after spending £125 on food and drink, especially as staff allowed my partner to order a drink 20 mins prior to booking ending and then not bringing to 10 mins before. for the front of house gentleman to actually physically tap my partner on the shoulder and basically ask to leave 3 minutes after the 1hr 15 as I was getting my coat on! ( was pouring outside and taxi hadn't came yet) I totally understand restaurants have reservation times to adhere if busy, however there was no one waiting for our table as I checked on way out and also table beside us was in prior to us arriving and still there as we left (or should I say were evicted🙈) sadly service issues still seem to be letting down a really good quality restaurant here over 3 minutes 😫

Aww man I absolutely adore this place! This isn’t my first time at this restaurant but it is my first post! Delicious food that’s full flavour and plenty of options to choose from. On this occasion we opened to share the cheeseburger spring roll (absolute must), chicken gyoza, the dirty fries, then I had the chicken teriyaki. I enjoyed this but I would have prefers some sauce to coat the rice but that’s maybe just personal preference as I do like a sauce. All in all it’s an aesthetic place to eat with friendly staff that are attentive.

All was great. Food fantastic, better then last time. Great service. Again recommended

Tried Salt for dinner last week for the first time and back already today to try out the lunch menu and on both occasions the food did NOT disappoint! Would highly recommend! The food is absolutely delicious and now our new favourite spot. Staff are so friendly aswell. 10/10, Fantastic.

First time at SALT and won't be our last! Absolutely fantastic experience from the atmosphere to the wonderful staff. Food was out of this world and the Korean chicken sushi is the best I've ever had! Can't wait for our next visit!

Salt is our favourite restaurant, we ordered 2 large katsu curries, Parmesan fries, chicken teriyaki sushi, burger spring rolls, and the chicken teriyaki on the skewers. Food came out quick, tasted amazing, and staff are friendly and polite. Highly recommend Salt 😁 lost count of how many times we have visited this restaurant as it is the best.

I can not recommend this place enough! Me and my partner stumbled across this place as we’re currently staying in Hamilton and just wanted to go out to eat. A hidden gem! The food is some of the best food I’ve ever eaten at this sort of restaurant and all of the staff were so nice and lovely! The deco is absolutely gorgeous and as the place isn’t too big it’s not loud or overwhelming like other restaurants are. I’m vegetarian and my partner eats meat and there were so many options for the both of us! If you come to this place don’t skip on dessert too! We had white chocolate cheesecake and raspberry and white chocolate mochi and it was delicious! Unfortunately we’ve traveled from Yorkshire but if we’re ever around again we’ll definitely be back!

We visited SALT today for the first time and were looked after by Greg. He was so welcoming and explained the menu to us. When we were still a bit confused about how much to order he came and explained again and recommended how many dishes we would finish, which we appreciated as many restaurants would let you over order just for profit however this was not our experience at all. He was super attentive and checked on us regularly to see how we liked our food. We finished our dishes and as per Greg’s recommendations it was just the perfect amount of food for us. We will definitely be back.

Just a cool place to dine. The atmosphere is great, the decor is very nice and the service was excellent. The pricing was reasonable as well for a "Japanese" restaurant. The food was "overall" good, hence I'm giving it a 4 stars.

This is a hidden gem of a place. The venue is well decorated and not too large. The staff are very attentive and polite. Our server chatted through the menu offering and kept us right for portion sizes as this is a tapas style menu. Food was absolutely delicious and well portioned. I will definitely be back.

Went to salt with our 17 month old, our server (Greg) was amazing with him. Helped set up the high chair, offered recommendations from the child menu for what our child might enjoy, and really made the effort to chat with our wee one any time he came past the table. Unlike other places that do the usual "beige food for children", we loved the bento box they offered kids- they got try lots of different textures and tastes (noodles, rice, sushi, pancakes) and lots of veggies on the plate too. Our food was great, and wished we could have had a dessert but we were totally stuffed!

Out of the many times I have visited this place for lunch or dinner it has never been a let down, the food is top tier and the staff are always friendly, not to mention the inside atmosphere with the decor is outstanding, perfect place for a night out with family

I've tried it only as take away so I cannot judge the atmosphere, probably is also a 5 star tho! Amazing food, sushi is fresh and their udon was made with proper noodles, not the instant ones.

What an amazing restaurant, it is so trendy, service was excellent and the food was incredibly tasty. Probably one of the best restaurants around. We dined tonight for dinner and can’t recommend Salt enough. The food is delicious, service is excellent, the atmosphere is perfect with a buzz but not too noisy and the decor is modern, classy and quirky. Tonight the owner came and introduced himself and spend time chatting to us. We really appreciated this especially during a busy Mother’s Day. We love it here and will continue to recommend it to friends and family. We have never had a bad dish. The katsu curry is to die for!

We had gone here to celebrate our sons birthday. Such a disappointing experience. We have been here before and had a positive experience. Sadly not this visit. One of our parties order did not arrive. We kept expecting it to arrive. We spoke to our server. Meanwhile the rest of the party had finished our meals. We were then informed that the meal had not been prepared yet and it would be at least another 10 minutes. It was removed from the bill . The gesture was appreciated. It ruined what should have been a lovely evening celebrating our sons birthday. I can’t abide poor service. The food was good shame about the service

A family group of 7 of us went for a birthday meal. It was a fabulous meal, food was delicious and everyone enjoyed what they had ordered. We had 3 teens with us and they really enjoyed it, something for everyone as long as adventurous palate as everything full of flavour

Tasty food and excellent staff.

The Salt Bang Bang shrimp along with the Korean spicy chicken ramen which had a lovely broth were both delicious. The Japanese curry fries were not smothered in curry sauce and the chips were nice and crunchy. The Salt buttermilk wings (garlic teriyaki) came out piping hot which was good as it allowed us to try everything else till they cooled down. The wings come with wipes as youll need them along with some extra napkins as they are well coated with a very nice sauce and the chicken cooked perfectly. The sushi for me was ok but very bland but the kids really liked it so perhaps it was just my personal tastebuds that weren't craving more. I've tried several sushi/noodle restaurants and I cant see by Wagamama for their ramens and value for money but for something different I'd recommend Salt to everyone as the food was nice, the service was great and the staff are friendly. There are booths available and I highly recommend them for a more peaceful and enjoyable experience as we were in between tables and ended up with a couple of toddlers up on the seats with no supervision at times.

The food is amazing, sushi all made fresh and you can truly taste it. Huge range of choices for those we are a little pickier too! And such friendly staff, just an all round great experience.

Birthday lunch out at salty first time trying it and it was amazing the food was 10/10 highly recommend this place the staff were amazing we will definitely be back .

I booked Salt in Hamilton for a special dinner. The food was good. However, our experience was marred by issues with service and hygiene. Our main issue was with the glasses for our drinks. My Negroni came in a glass with noticeable dirt on it which I had to wipe off, and my girlfriends glass had dried food inside. We pointed hers out to the waitress, but when the drink came back, it had the exact same piece of dirt at the bottom. All they did was wipe the top. The situation worsend when we saw the bar staff's reaction to our request for a clean glass. The bartender openly muttered expletives to the waitress and then glanced over at us with obvious annoyance. While we're not lip readers, her words and expression were unmistakably clear. This kind of response made us feel like we were being a problem, which was really disappointing, especially given what we were paying for the experience and all we wanted was a cocktail not sat in a glass with dried food. A staff member, possibly a manager, did come over and apologise, but there wasn't any real effort to make things right. We were still charged full price for the drink with the dirt in it. We live nearby and are well-acquainted with the local dining scene. This disappointing experience at SALT is something we'll be sharing with our friends and family to ensure they don't encounter the same issues. It's a letdown to see a restaurant fall so short on such basic hygiene.
