Not much to see. System for labelling paintings is really unhelpful. Cabinets of objects with separate laminated sheets because no one can be bothered to put labels next to the actual objects. Paintings hung so high that you can't appreciate them properly with strip lighting that makes it sometimes impossible.

You can take a look at the museum if you are in the area. There is an exhibition about an old street in Manchester where life back then is depicted. It's very authentic and nice to look at. The gallery has a lot of pictures that were hung out of context. According to the description, they should fit the period and therefore a lot of pictures can be exhibited. As a visitor it is very difficult to keep an overview or to be able to assign the pictures. All in all very nice for a stay of 30 minutes but no more.

Salford Museum & Art Gallery Salford Museum & Art Gallery, located in Salford, Greater Manchester, is a significant cultural institution that offers a rich tapestry of history and art. Established in 1850, it is one of the oldest public museums in the UK, and it plays a key role in preserving and showcasing the heritage of Salford and the surrounding area. The museum's diverse collections include local history exhibits, fine art, and decorative arts. Notable displays feature artifacts related to the city's industrial past, including items from Salford's role in the textile industry. The art gallery houses works by prominent local artists as well as pieces from various periods, providing insight into the region’s artistic heritage. One of the highlights of the museum is its Victorian period rooms, which offer a glimpse into life in the 19th century. Additionally, the museum frequently hosts temporary exhibitions, educational workshops, and community events, making it a dynamic space for learning and engagement. Salford Museum & Art Gallery is appreciated for its commitment to community involvement and educational outreach. Open Tuesday to Sunday and FREE to visit! :) The main museum collection is now one of social history, although originally the museum had a wider remit when it came to collecting artefacts from all over the world. This Museum is s an intriguing mix of Victorian and 20th century architecture. With the popular permanent attractions of The Victorian Gallery and Lark Hill Place, as well as the ever changing exhibitions, there is always something for everyone at Salford Museum and Art Gallery, from hands-on activities and workshops to modern art.

We recently visited the Salford Museum for a junk model insect session. While the concept sounded fun, the session was less interactive than expected. It mainly involved picking up materials and crafting something on your own, which felt a bit uninspired for kids. That said, the museum itself is lovely and worth a visit. There are some enjoyable coloring activities available for children, and the café offers a nice spot to relax. Overall, it's a pleasant place to spend some time, though the workshop could be more engaging.

From when i rang to book and then face to face with all the staff were polite and attentive, the cakes and sandwiches went down a treat, and they were served with smiles. The whole venue was very clean and inviting, and very interesting to see history being preserved for people to see. All the staff need a pat on the back, as they are assets to the museum. And the bonus for us was being over 70rys young, it cost us half price . So well done you and thank you !

We spent an amazing 3 hours enjoying the cafe serving an array of good food by such lovely staff, all friendly, chatty and helpful they couldn't do enough for us especially Rebecca who had worked there for staggering 17 years, which shows what a great place it must be. The exhibitions were so interesting and Lark Hill didn't disappoint. The shop had wonderful items with hand made jewellery, pottery and collections of toys and games from the past. This place was a great find for an afternoon out with something for all ages. The gallery has some historical art works with originals by Salford painters (including LS Lowry and Harold Riley). There is also a more contemporary art gallery with interesting audiovisual elements. Throughout there are fun activities for kids; books, colouring and discovery boxes in the art gallery for example. There is an old Victorian doll's house which our little ones enjoyed looking at. The Victorian Street is very unique and atmospheric. There were some dressing-up clothes which our kids loved and made the Victorian experience all the more authentic! There is a well-priced cafe and a little shop which included some old original books and good gift options. Artworks and crafts by local artists are also available to buy. Parking is available outside (limited on busier days), it was £2.50 for 3hrs and you can use the paybyphone app or website if you don't have change for the machine.

This small but friendly restaurant has been taken over and renamed. Visited this evening with my son and have to say that the restaurant was clean, has had a revamp during lockdown and change of owner. Starters were plentiful and beautifully cooked as was the tandoori mixed grill, and chicken tikka, again freshly cooked and served with rice and Nan, Well worth a visit, we will definitely be returning.
