Now a store room. Think they are on the verge of closing. Not surprising for the store itself is poorly managed, too many empty shelves and missing offers. Plenty of worn out excuses little action.

More empty shelves almost on a daily basis. Seems to be a management problem as I frequently see staff gathered in huddles at the rear of the store rather than working. I visit almost daily and can't help thinking it's on the downward slope. I had occasion to speak to a manager a week ago, the first ever, I had seen on the shop floor in 11 years. Unsurprising, some of the staff are idle. Unless there is an immediate review they'll follow their predecessors, the Co-oP!

I had to get to a movie next door in the Omniplex, but also had to get some food eaten first. I did not have enough time to sit somewhere, place an order, and wait for it to be cooked. Sainsbury's was the answer: they have assorted sandwiches and wraps made up already and on sale. I grabbed a ploughman's lunch type sandwich, sat and ate it, and was able to get to the film in good time. Lots of tables in the dining area. There are a few couches if you prefer. Toilets off the area where people pay for their groceries. Huge free car park outside.

I chose their hand battered fish and chips for £5.50. Drink? The water was free. I was asked a question and had to ask for it to be repeated. This was done, with no hesitation, it was about whether I preferred my peas mushy, or not. “Not mushy, thank-you.” Points to the worker who could have shown a flicker of impatience for having to repeat themselves, but absolutely did not. You get a number and go sit and wait while your food is cooked. There’s a station with the packets of condiments and cutlery. I did have to keep looking to find a cleaner knife. They have a very large dining area with a sunny bank of windows. Christmas music was playing, mercifully quietly, and happily the songs were unfamiliar ones, not the irritating ones you hear too often. My table was salty from the previous diners. There are newspapers you can browse. It takes a while to cook your food, and that is reassuring. Apart from many choices of cooked meals people in a hurry might go for their sandwiches, and they offered some apples and bananas. The food was very hot. I got a chunk of a lemon to squeeze over my meal and big dish of sauce. For the price it was OK, a decent enough café meal.

Manager Lorraine- rude and unprofessional. No other words needed! After visiting the store, all staff members seem polite and helpful, until it comes to speaking to the manager named above. Don’t work in customer service if you’re going to approach them in an unprofessional manner.

Each time I have been in Sainburys Carrickfergus recently, there is a ghostly atmosphere as there seem to be so few people using it. Having Argos in the store now helps with the footfall.

This Sainsbury's is not the largest around but it still has a very good range of products. Unfortunately they have a very poor selection of pork pies and they don't stock the 'Goldfish' brand of oncentrated curry and hot 'n' spicy range of sauces made by keejays. Having said all that we still like to shop in Sainsbury's and we can recommend their cafe for a nice meal. Recommended.

During short stay at Carrikfergus the centrally situated store near the Marina proved an excellent handy venue for a quick coffeee and sandwich during our travels in addition to topping up a few essential items.

You get a tray, choose food, pay, and sit until they bring your tray of food to you. I had their lasagne. Not great, just what you'd expect from a cafeteria. The price was appropriate. I did find that the plate was chilling my hot food, so I ate speedily. Lots of room between the tables, which is good (I hate it when some places cram in extra tables and your chair is butting up against someone else's). They have a couple of couches - but these always seem to be occupied. The place seemed to be clean. View of the 800 year old Carrickfergus Castle, through tinted windows at the end. The main bank of windows are not tinted, but only overlook the huge car park. That's free to use.

Our visit was one made in the course of shopping in the main store. The cafe was warm - which was a good start! The service was low key and efficient though largely self service - both before and after the snack. The waiter made sure we paid before we ate (!), which is probably fair enough. No till receipt was offered, and I found that disappointing. Would I go back? Not sure. The food was good enough and the place looked clean. Maybe that's what's important.

Please don't waste your time here unless you have nothing to do all day - they are soooo slow at serving - and grumpy! usually only one person serving - really frustrating as a customer - have stopped going in : there are so many cafes in Carrickfergus now where you can get served quickly and even get a smile!!
