Food ok, service terrible. We finished our food and were still sitting waiting on our table being cleared 45 minutes later. Eventually we had to ask for it to be cleared and if we could order coffees. Staff seemed very inexperienced. When we asked how the pie was served ie sliced or in an individual dish, she said she didn't know as she hadn't seen the pie before 🤷‍♀️ even though red velvet cake and caramel square were nice, we won't be rushing back because of the service

We walk often through Whitehead out to the lighthouse at Blackhead point, and back. Yesterday we primed ourselves with breakfast at the Kings Road coffee shop. I had a large fry which was, honestly, better than I've been served in some very high end hotels. Every ingredient was top quality, everything very dry and well cooked, presented neatly and the taste was excellent. My wife had poached eggs on brown toast and the eggs were done to perfection. This is a gem of a place, and I hope it continues providing this high end offering for years to come! If you're on your way north to Ballycastle etc well worth spinning off into Whitehead for brekkies here! Highly recommended.

Visited. Spectacular building. Outside dining area was popular; you can watch the world go by. The famous Whitehead Road Race had runners going past this corner every lap on April 1st for its centenary. The decorative ironwork and coloured glass windows are original features from the dawn of the 20th century. Inside is even better - the original wooden floors, walls and ceilings have survived for 12 decades. No wonder different film-makers have used this as a location. I had the black pudding sausage roll. It was really great. It was surprisingly cheap, so I very nearly ordered another one just for pure gluttony.

Really need to sort out your service guys. Been twice and both times there's been big issues. Orders wrong, very long delay, inexperienced staff with little/no supervision, being forgotten about (not just us), tables uncleared, etc. Pity as food is good when it eventually comes, staff are very pleasant and nice surroundings. Stopping food service at 12:00 for a kitchen change over from breakfast when you start serving lunch from 12:15 is just crazy, been an hour waiting now. Don't think we'll be back, sorry.

Lovely cafe. It was busy when we arrived at 11:35 on Saturday morning. The waitress took our order for food and drinks. The food arrived but unfortunately my meal and my daughters meal did not arrive. I spoke to one of the staff and she told me that there had been a mix up with our order which meant two meals had not been ordered. She informed me that both meals would be delivered asap. I told the waitress that this was very disappointing and wasnt good for the business. Approx 15 mins later both meals were delivered by the owner. She was very apologetic and told us that we wouldn't be charged for any of the meals and she was very upset with the mistake. All of us enjoyed our food and we will return in the near future. Mistakes do often happen but hopefully in the future the staff will be more in control of the ordering system.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

Whitehead has always been a difficult place to find something decent to eat. There’s that posh place down near the sea, but we’ve never fancied their menu… then there was the Bank House, which was a real breath of fresh air – an absolute delight for a year or two, then the owner retired or something, and it went completely to the dogs. Finally… King’s Road Café. Can’t remember much about the original one, as it closed down not long after we moved to the area. Then (maybe 3 years ago?) it closed down for quite a while, and was subject to extensive refurbishment. I was excited to see it re-open, and at first the food lived up to my expectations – it was really good, imaginative, different. But cracks appeared very quickly – dishes inexplicably changed their contents, sometimes introducing allergens where previously there had been none. And the odd offering was frankly inedible. The service was very haphazard – I once saw a waitress spill a glass of water off a tray all over a customer, and scurry off to the kitchen without an apology. I wasn’t really surprised when it changed hands again – it really was like Fawlty Towers on a bad day, and that was clearly unsustainable. So imagine our excitement when it recently re-opened – again. At first, we thought the food was pretty good… but the rot started to set in quite quickly, so we didn’t go back for a while (teething problems, we thought), then popped in today on a whim. First problem was the service. I ordered a coffee first, as I like to sip it while waiting for my meal. Then we ordered the pie of the day, and a toasted panini. Unfortunately I didn’t take a note of its exact description, but it was along the lines of “Cuban pork with pickles”. I asked what today’s pie was, and was told beef & Guinness. Just under ½ an hour later, my coffee arrived. When I ordered it, the place wasn’t busy, though it filled while we waited. Coffee a bit weak, but OK. A little while later, the waiter came out and told us there were no paninis, and would ordinary bread do? I don’t THINK I heard a “sorry”. At that point we were starving and just wanted to eat and go, so my companion agreed to have brown toast instead of the panini. What a disappointment! Her toastie consisted of two slices of very dry brown bread, with a single, wafer-thin slice of pork (the kind you get in packets in supermarkets to make your own sandwiches), and a few fragments of pickles. I can’t remember what it cost, but I’m sure it was over a tenner. Nothing Cuban that we could detect; very little pork; very little anything. Quite unpleasant, left most of it. My steak and Guinness pie was very strange, consisting of a bit of chicken and leek in a white sauce, inside some puff pastry, which was quite soggy at the bottom. It was edible, but not what was ordered. The chips and tinned peas didn’t inspire much either. Yet another promising establishment going to the dogs, I’m afraid. It’s so depressing. We certainly won’t be back. PS I should say that our waitress was lovely. The fault is with the management/kitchen, not the table staff.

We decided to try Kings Road Coffee Shop, the first thing about it is that the decor inside is warm and well decorated. What also impressed me was there was no background music thus,we were able to have conversations without having to contend with music, rather, the place sounded with gentle chatter of people having conversations. Kings Road Coffee Shop is beautifully appointed establishment (high ceilings, many original features, a good availability of goodies, and clean), with staff who enjoy their work - even at the time of our visit (16:30). The building is nice, I like what they've done with the branding and decor. We were told there were no sausages or cheese when we arrived, which was a bit disappointing (there are shops close by including a butchers!) We went there with visiting relations and paid for our orders at the till. There was quite a wait for the food and one of our guests didn't receive his meal at all. He had to re-order and when it came it was the wrong meal. He was hungry and didn't want to wait any longer so accepted the mistake. I have heard from friends that this is a common occurence in this establishment so be prepared. The food is pretty good but expensive. You can get 2 fries with tea in Coastal Coffe down the road for £14 but here it will set you back about £25. Overall, good food but overpriced and you may not get what you ordered, if it arrives at all.

We had called in to Kings Road in the summer to try their loaded fries to find that their fryer was broken and nothing was available. We were off today so I decided to try it again and checked the menu to make sure it hadn't changed. We arrived around 1:20pm to find the cafe very quiet, we took a seat and waited for a few minutes only to have the menu flung onto our table, it was tattered and on inspection the menu had changed. When my wife asked about their loaded fries she was told that they haven't been on the menu for 15 months. found this a bit odd as we had been their in July and they were on the menu then. They are still advertised on your webpage she told the server who said oops we never look at that. In a village with so many other options for lunch our money will be better spent there. A truly disappointing experience of very poor customer service.

Called in after a dip at Gleno waterfall. Luckily enough, one of our group of four had won a voucher in a competition. First impressions were good, very busy on a Sunday morning. Took one of us to go up to the counter to get menus as no one came near us. Seemed like it was a self service sort of thing and you had to order at the counter. Tried to order sausage and egg baps, which were on the menu, only to be told they were only for kids, and that we couldn’t order them as we had no kids with us. So our order consisted of a vegan sausage roll, which was quite nice, a beef sausage roll, which was just average. A sausage, bacon and egg pancake stack, which consisted of two cold pancakes, a very minimal drizzle of maple syrup, a hard single rasher of cold bacon, a single, luke warm sausage and a going cold egg. Disappointing to say the least @£9.50. One of our group ordered a plain scone and received a raspberry scone, when the waiter was told, that it was supposed to be plain, he replied “oh, thats a raspberry scone” and walked away. The coffee wasn’t bad to be fair, but its as well we had a voucher, as the food was a real let down. All in all, definitely wouldn’t recommend or return.

This establishment had closed for a while but on our last visit to Whitehead we noticed that it had reopened. We came here for lunch having previously enjoyed great food and coffee in this old style Victorian building. My wife had the Queen's Grilled Cheese which was a grilled cheese sandwich with chicken, rocket and chilli jam. I had a Princess and the Bap which had to be served in sourdough bread because they had run out of baps. Despite this the sausage, bacon, egg and chilli jam was a good choice. The large cafetiere of coffee is excellent value for money compared to the price of an Americano. King's Road offers very tasty food served in a brisk, efficient manner. Highly recommended.

But it's a pity the service and food are so bad even though the menu looks nice. The first thing is, staff brought us milk tea while we were waiting for our main dish. Tasted like they just put warm water in tea and added some milk. I barely could drink it but my friend refused to even try a sip. Besides, we waited more than half an hour to get what we ordered although those who came later than us somehow got their dishes before than us. Secondly, three of us ordered three same dishes, however, my friend didn't have the black pudding and me with other person got it somehow. The loaded fries was a great heap of food in a big bowl, and would have made a good meal all on its own. Everything was great, loved it. The venue is very light and bright, with great banks of windows facing south and west around a corner. On warmer days many people choose to dine on the extensive decking area outside. During our visit there were lots of customers eating outside, inside and in the second fireplace room; this place is popular. Dining here at night is very spectacular, with the wooden interior all lit up. Service was good. Unusually this is a place where you go up to the counter to place your order and pay beforehand. I like their furniture; their logo is printed or carved into the wood of their tables. The lights are very stylish. They actually took months to completely refurbish the building. Their attention to detail shows; the original floorboards (1904) look great.

I visited with my wife and two friends , very poor service only one member of staff serving at lunchtime and pay before you eat , one menu per four people....menu aimed at the more modern taste ,I had sausage roll with which to me was a salad concoction and what may been chili sauce in a little cup which had not been mentioned on the menu. My lunch guest thought the place average would not visit again.

Sorry lovely looking place but will not be back. Ice machine not working, lost are order and had to after 20mins of waiting ask where it was to be told there sorry and they would get it as fast as they could. 20mins later still had to ask where it was. Food was not great after that wait yet the menu it sounded lovely. Very disappointed 😞

Good coffee and nice breakfasts and early evening meals. Nearly always busy. The only negative is parking so pick your time carefully. Just called in after the refurb, extra seating across the front window is better than the high stools, same great coffee tho.

This wee delight of a place used to be perfect for afternoon lunch but after my visit today I doubt I'll be back. Waited for 55 mins for food to be brought when I observed other tables who had arrived after us being served first. The order was a fry, panini and 2 salads....so no cooking required for those 2 dishes. When the food was served an excuse of an apology was given which really qa wasnt acceptable given we waited nearly an hour at lunchtime...lucky we weren't understand time pressure. The prices have increased considerably too and the portion sizes have definitely got smaller when a caeser salad is £10.80 and not much eating it and a panini was under filled for £8.80...,not good at all. In fairness the fry was adequate. Don't think ill be back. Which is a shame
