S & P Fish Shop in North Devon

What a beautiful shop! It’s also a restaurant. The staff are VERY helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. We tried John Dory for the first time, delicious, we also had bass, mussels, crevettes, lobster, and some mixed seafood as a snack. Lovely place, must visit Our bbq was wonderful Thank you

We bought a dressed crab today, cost of over £9:00. Crab shell contained 90% brown meat and only a10% layer of white meat on top to disguise how much brown meat there was. A totally dishonest rip off!! Beware

My elderly parents visited today for a crab sandwich, the service was shocking and there was literally no filling in the sandwich. When they raised this with the staff there were no apologies, they literally just brought out some crab and slammed it on the table. A very poor experience, they certainly won’t be returning!

I bought these dressed crab from S&P was very disappointed. What looked like a lot of white crab meat turned out to be just a layer on top of more brown meat as the pictures show. There would not be enough white meat to make a sandwich on its own. Plus it’s got very little claw meat just from the body which is just flaky and dry.

Amazing fresh fish and seafood - very accommodating to a very large group and really friendly to our kids. Highly recommend.

Only used as a fish mongers not eating in but we're offered great advice and purchased a lovely turbot, which we had not tried before. It was lovely and fresh. Not the cheapest place but you get what you pay for, can't beat fresh seafood!

Whenever we visit Ilfracombe we always make sure to eat at S & P, we've been visiting for many years and the seafood is always good. This experience was even better though as it appears the menu had been revamped. We had the smaller of the seafood platters which came with half a lobster, a dressed crab, mackerel fillets, smoked salmon, shell on prawns, crevettes, de-shelled prawns, mussels, cockels, crayfish tails and whelks along with salad, dips and bread and butter. The fish was delicious and the portion size was good. The seating area is also dog friendly and the staff made a fuss over our giant breed dog and made sure he had water and treats. The only downside was the whelks were a bit small and flavourless but apart from that the rest of the food was fantastic.

This place is a seafood shop , with small sitting area ( 4 table ) outside, very cold if it s bad weather. Only serve cold foods . The osysters and seafood platters are great !

This Fish shop is amazing, filled with quality seafood. We visited with family when we were staying local to Ilfracombe last year and we enjoyed it so much we returned whilst staying in Exmouth nearly 2 hours away ! You can’t go wrong with anything you order here, it is all fresh as can be and really well presented. Service was excellent too and as I was on crutches I was given an accessible table. Strongly advise you to book if you can ! If you are near to Ilfracombe this is a must visit place to eat !

Did not eat there but when we asked if a fish shop does fish and chips The person behind the counter was very demeaning and told us that fish and chips is on the other side of the harbour Not any way to get more customers to frequent your business

We just had here 50/50 mix crab meat wrap & white crab meat wrap. These were delicious. Fresh and tasty. Definitely worth a visit.

The food was poor at best. We got the platter for two people: the highlight was the smoked salmon but we needed more, the oysters were fresh (we hope ! ) but the rest was frozen seafood & chewy The bread needs to be improved (supermarket sliced bread).The service was good.

Friendly staff, visibly lovely food but not sure it's local or fresh. When ordering a Dressed crab you do expect a few bits of shell but it was far too much for anyone and off putting. Not sure what was fresh and local and what wasn't. Disappointed

Such an excellent find for delicious and fresh seafood! My husband and I were looking for a seafood restaurant to celebrate our anniversary. We saw this online and booked it and we weren't disappointed. It is only a small café, with limited tables, and outside only. It's right on the harbour side, which was a bit chilly on a cooler day in summer - so take/ wear layers. The staff were friendly and service was really good and fast. The shellfish supreme platter for 2 was amazing and a huge portion. I would absolutely recommend trying it and we'll definitely go back!

Here on holiday for two weeks. Bought a whole cooked lobster (cost only £31) to eat back at caravan and to say it tasted fantastic is an understatement!!! It was that gorgeous We have now just gone back for another lobster and a seafood platter for two , only cost £88 for all that. Brilliant value.This time the staff dressed the lobster for us to make it easier.We really cant believe how inexpensive this place is and how fresh and lovely the seafood is!! Just a brilliant gem of a place and lovely staff. We recommend everyone to go here and enjoy the delicious seafood.Thanks guys ur great.

Absolutely amazing! Stopped in for lunch, crab salad and crab sandwich with a cider and prosecco, call in advance to check if lobster in as thats what we fancied… amazing food, beautifully presented and the staff were lovely too, definitely a must visit if you need lunch by the harbour

Went mid week out of season and had a wonderful seafood platter. Friendly, helpful staff. Would definitely visit again. We ordered to takeaway as it was too cold to eat outside.

We had an amazing meal here! The seafood was excellent and portions so big! Wine that accompanied the meal was so good! Highly recommend this gem of a place! Definitely going again when we re visit the area!

Delightful eatery, excelkant fish choices and the food served was most lush. Sorry I didn't have the taster lobster.. When I saw it I was jealous!! However my mixed crab meat was tasty and well filled. Will defo re visit for the mixed fish for two and eat it all myself!!

This is highly recommended if you like your fresh fish, but booking is advisable. We had a platter for two and could not finish it all. Lovely selection and all very fresh. Staff are excellent and very attentive.

BEWARE OF HIDDEN CHARGES! Food was just ok. Service was friendly. It was a special birthday lunch and when booking I asked if I could bring a bottle of French champagne & pay corkage. The girl said “yes no problem, we can sort something out”. We requested the bill, waitress did not give us a bill, she arrived at the table with the card machine and told us the amount. My husband paid with card however it seemed more than expected. I asked to see a breakdown of the total and could not believe I had been charged £22.50 CORKAGE!!! I questioned this and was told it was charged according to the cost of the bottle I had brought in. Ripped off on my birthday - shame on you

Busy place, we advise booking. We ordered some oysters and the S&P seafood sharing platter for 3 to 4 people, it was divine, we loved it and as we didn't manage to eat all we took the rest home..there was enough for another meal.. definitely good value for money.

Very tasty seafood available here with reasonable prices and very friendly staff. The range of seafood dishes available, while not extremely large, is large enough that there's something for everyone. It can get very busy so I recommend booking beforehand.

We phoned at about 15:20 today to ask about the closing time. The lady said that they were closing at 17:00. It took us an hour to get here, arrived at about 16:25, only to find out that she has packed everything away. I mean, how is this even acceptable?

Had an excellent lunch here yesterday whilst on holiday. Had the sea food platter for two and another member of the party had the crab salad. Both excellent dishes. Would highly recommend to others.

First impressions were amazing, small little hut next to the harbour! All the seafood displayed, never seen anything so fresh! Ordered the side of Lobster and Seafood platter for one, expectations were exceeded to say the least. Definitely not an experienced seafood eater myself, but most of the food comes pre-prepared for you, except the bigger prawns but peeling them is part of the fun! Perfect place if you want to taste the best seafood that Devon has to offer!! Also the service was spot on, absolutely spot on...

Do not eat here! The manager is so rude, we pre booked a table to only turn up (on time) to be told she had given our table to someone else because one of her staff had overbooked. Whilst I appreciate everyone makes mistakes, what I can’t forgive is her rudeness about the situation almost making us feel it was our fault. The boy who took our booking tried to resolve the error to only be shouted down by the owner. If you book here don’t assume you will have your table! Annoyed we travelled all that way to not be seated and be shouted at!

Excellent food. Could tell everything was directly from the sea to the plate, very fresh. Had the shellfish supreme which was more than enough for 2 adults and a child. Need to book as it gets busy and not much space. Staff friendly. Recommend. Our girl wants to go back for more lobster.

We really wanted to have lunch at S&P and luckily they managed to fit us in for later in the afternoon. The portions are very generous so we ended up asking for a tub to take the rest of the seafood platter home. The staff were very helpful and efficient. The experience was only let down by the lashing rain and strong wind. But it wouldn't be an English seaside experience without those!

Don’t buy the lobster sandwich, it’s not great and not worth 12£ at all. Wasn’t much different from any Tesco sandwich. Disappointed.

We had a takeaway seafood platter here recently and absolutely loved it. The shellfish tasted very fresh, the staff were very welcoming, and the price was very good for the amount of food. The platter in the pic below was around £34. We sat on the beach just outside the fish shop. If you are visiting the area, S&P is a must.

Popped over to S & P pre lockdown to grab some fresh mussels for some Spanish dishes we are trying out in our kitchen for our instagram. Amazing produce and a great selection, and while I was there grabbed half a pre cooked lobster I took home for lunch .. Delicious!! Pictures below how it turned out.

Popped over after a very wet and windy walk to grab some lunch. Bought a dressed crab, 6 crevettes and a medium pot of crayfish tails. Crab was superb, very fresh. The crevettes were so sweet, some of the best I've ever had. The crayfish tails were a bit rubbery for us but the other produce made up for it. Service was friendly, professional, pricing was good and the produce is clearly very fresh and well handled. Highly recommend.

We visited on the 21/09 and bought some skate wings and 'fresh' crab from here and did not have a good experience. For the skate, we asked for skate wings for two people, and they just picked the 2 largest ones they could find (in Covid times it's hard to see through the hatch) - we didn't realise until we were home that it was enough food for four. We also purchased some 'fresh' crab meat that we later discovered had been picked on the 17/09 and was to be used by the 21/09 - this wasn't even mentioned to us when we bought it! Feel thoroughly ripped off.

Worst shell fish we have eaten! All frozen and completely tasteless. We were hoping for lovely freshly caught lobster and crab, instead got defrosted soggy shellfish with not even a hint of flavour. I have eaten fresh lobster and know the difference between fresh and frozen. Have eaten better tasting frozen prawns from a supermarket. The platter did not even include the smoked salmon listed. Would not go back there if it was the last fish shop on earth.

Ordered the premium platter take away asked lady to make it up to £40 staff were very helpful the platter was excellent enough food for fou adults thank you very much when back down here will call in again.

We had a fantastic seafood platter here today (seafood supreme) and it was more than enough for two. The quality and variety was very good and the service was excellent. Everyone was extremely welcoming and friendly. Thoroughly recommend S&P.

Managed to get one of their 4 outside tables for a sandwich a few days ago and had to return for the platter today. Got it to take away as the tables were all booked. We got the The Shellfish Supreme platter (for 2 of us) and it probably enough for 4! Lovely shellfish and great staff. Wonderful service... I'm so full 😁

A mild autumn day and a dish of the most fresh and exquisite combination of the sea. ...simply served with lovely fresh granary bread and butter and glass of white wine.Perfection.

We visited here today, looking for some mackerel for our bbq. Everything here looked super fresh and the guy serving proudly told us that he'd personally caught all the Lobsters himself, his partner had cooked and dressed some of them, they looked great, other lobsters were still wandering around a tank for those who prefer to do it themselves. Outside is a little cafe seating area where you can enjoy their fresh crab and lobster platters, all were garnished beautifully and generously. We'll be back another visit to try. What can I say. Super fresh fish and friendly people who are proud of what they do, you can't beat it.

Great fishmonger with a wide variety of fresh fish and seafood. Staff are always helpful and are really fast at filleting fish if you don't fancy having to do it for your self.
