The Royal usually does Fish and Chips on a friday night - you should book by calling ( see Hoy Facebook page for latest news ). We have been sampling Fish and Chips across the Highlands and Islands over the last several years and we are happy to report that the Longhope Fish and Chips are the best - thanks Alan and Sabine , great work. Oh , and it's always a nice wee night in the traditional bar with open fire and draught lager. Loved it.

We were booked into the Royal through work and were the only ones staying in the rooms. Alan made us feel as if we were family, giving is run of the place. The locals in the pub at night made us feel extremely welcome (I think there may have been a marriage proposal at one point). Alan hadn't been told we needed fed, having not eaten for quite a while, but this was no problem as he rustled up 5 of the biggest portions of fish and chips you could imagine! The "deserts" were very tasty too..😉 The Royal is everything that is good about island life, with the locals helping themselves to drink whilst our host was cooking, but making sure he was paid. I particularly like the " room keys? Dont need keys here lads"; and we didn't.

We stayed at the Cantick Head Lighthouse Cottage and Beth recommended we eat here for dinner. Very limited menu but we both had the fish and chips and home-made cheesecake and they were delicious. It was a cosy pub with locals coming and going during the 2 hours we were there. The owners made sure everyone was cared for and were nice to give us some samples of whiskey. We bought a friend some Glen Morangie whiskey based his recommendation and our friend loved it. They have a huge friendly dog (sorry...can't remember his name) that greeted everyone who entered and lounged in front of the fire. This was one of the highlights of our trip around Scotland. We enjoyed the food and sitting there talking to the locals. It was easy to find on the main road.

This cafe is up towards Graham Place from the main street. We enjoyed soup, toasties, coffees and two slices of a deliciously moist chocolate cake before setting off for the St Margaret's Hope ferry. It was very relaxed with a friendly atmosphere, with local artwork on the walls, some for sale. Service was excellent and we would recommend this as somewhere to eat after visiting the town's excellent museum.

Adorable little ice cream shop in Nazareth. Get your ice cream fix with a layer of 50's vibe added in thanks to the decor and music played. From a normal twist, black raspberry, or pumpkin soft style (current choices), to a long list of hard ice cream flavors (teaberry included), to milkshakes and sundaes, there are plenty of choices for any ice cream lover. 🍦🍨🥤

By far the best choice for dinner in Kirkwall. The lamb curry was one of a kind. Service staff super friendly and great selection of beers and surprising cocktail variety. Make sure to stop by!

Spoiled for choice, all sorts of delicatessen to pick from. Not super cheap or expensive but had a good browse and bought some relish, cheese and oatcakes.
