Great value fish & chips from a well established chippy ,lovely white cod in crispy batter & near perfect chips ! At around £22 for fish chips peas & tea for two you can't go wrong !

Went today Rothwells today to eat inside restaurant and order a lighter bite £8 order just a cod n chips was offer peas or beans with it but didn’t want it I went with a friend and she order the same my fish was really small compare to my friends so I pointed it out could they give me a different fish and I would have been happy with that but next thing I know Mangeress comes refuses to do that and gives me my money back my fish looked like a batter sausage

Best chip shop in the town centre, a visit to Doncaster isn't complete until you have been here.

My husband and I went for fish n chips to rothwells yesterday. First time. They were perfect! The staff were friendly and helpful and not too expensive. Great. We will be back

Used to go in here a lot in my youth and had a great reputation often queue’s. Haven’t been for a long time walked in ordered a small and regular fish & chips. Seemed to be a personality clash between chef and woman serving. She said the order twice, chef not acknowledging on her third attempt he said he’d heard but how would you know? On next orders he was bickering with her on taking orders and told her she should try doing his job as he had the front and restaurant to do. When the order arrived only the small was done to which she said there was supposed to be a regular. When this came it was the same size fish as my partners so I politely asked if it was right to which I got a sharp reply that’s the regular size. If they are identical why am I paying app £2.50 more. Portions are uncompetitive for £8 in this case. Another lady fortunately had a look over and came over with an extra small fish to compensate being attentive and realising the situation (thank you to this lady you gained 1 star). Chips were slightly undercooked and so few but fish was cooked well. For such an iconic well known chippy you need to communicate effectively and calmly if fronted by customers. Definitely maintain attention to detail and hopefully give portions to justify cost differences.

Visited after few months again, same quality fish and chips. Amazing and welcoming service. Five stars. Have a look in pictures quality of fish and colour of chips. Lady Kevin at counter was amazing and wonderful. I would recommend everyone to visit.

It’s an unfussy menu as you would expect from a proper fish and chip place. The chips are the tastiest we’ve had in a long time and the Haddock was beautiful. Meal deals are great value on set days during the week and mostly all served with a pot of tea and buttered bread. We can’t recommend it enough.

I paid for a regular battered haddock meal deal for £10.85. The meal came with my fish of choice, chips, my side of choice with large pot of tea or coffee which you get 2 to 3 cups out off. The lovely waitresses that served me brought out extra hot water for me to top up my teapot. The food was phenomenal, the fish is the best I’ve ever had. Fresh and the batter, to die for. The chip was clearly made in house and not bought in because they was amazing, crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. My side of mushy peas tied the experience up as a party in my mouth. The only problem I had was that I couldn’t fish my food and I didn’t want to stop eating. Excellent fish and chips and would definitely advise you to try

This business has it worked out perfectly. Short queue on a Saturday at 11.50. They seated a few at a time. Only a couple of minutes before they take your order and at the most 6 minutes and your food is in front of you. Fish and chips with mushy peas all hot and very fresh from the pan. I was alone and the small tables were ideal. Baby chairs are available. Decaf tea made my day as it's not always available. There were more waiters than average and very efficient. Several people cooking and keeping up with demand, all nicely cooked. A big pat on the back to the youngster clearing tables ready for use by others. Take away available. An excellent experience. Thank you.

Best fish shop in the country I wouldn't go anywhere else for fish and chips I'd just like to add you don't need to go to coast for the best fish and chips when they're here on your doorstep at Doncaster perfect I always have cod and chips and always get my cod lightly battered best there is.

Mum goes regularly as she lives in Doncaster and shops in the market, I went with her for the first time last week, we had small cod and chips each, was delicious, would go again and reasonably priced.

I am at an age to remember what fish and chips tasted like 70 years ago. Over the years the way we cook fish and chips and taste of fish and chips has achieved disappointing results. I decided to have a fish and chip meal in the Rothwells restaurant. I was very pleasantly surprised at how good and pleasing the meal turned out to be. In fact I now regularly visit for a meal. They have an extensive menu with drinks and the service is excellent. Very good value meals.

Had the £5 special, small cod, chips and mushy peas. Absolutely delicious. Lovely white fish, crispy batter and good size. Friendly staff. Would not hesitate to go back again.

Best fish and chips in Yorkshire

Chips were very pale and greasy and only just cooked plus very expensive. Cashier assumed that i wanted a large chips didnt ask what size and very shocked to be charged £3.30. Very expensive I'll be cooking my own chips from now on rather than use this place. Plenty of places around with better quality food and not surprisly cheaper.

We have been coming to Rothwells in Doncaster Market for over 50 years and we visited again yesterday 13 March. We had a large haddock, small chips and a pot of tea and I can honestly say I have had the most beautiful meal. Whether it's because of the pandemic etc. But it was delicious thank you once again Rothwells. Best fish and chips anywhere in Yorkshire

Great food fish teased great ordered large cod and chips so disappointed with the number of chips on small plate considering price paid. Would of been a 5 star won't be going back as value for money is as important as taste.

Amazing battered sausages! Love Rothwells but my only disappointment is the amount of chips that you get in a tray. Not enough!! Very friendly and polite staff and well thought out covid measures.

Have bought food from Rothwell almost once a week for over forty years. Have always enjoyed Top Quality fish chips &peas. And have been the first to recommend. Sadly today went inside for a change. And was confronted with a dirty cup for my drink with my meal. When I brought this to the attention of a male member of staff I Received a dirty look as though nothing was wrong.Had I been alone I would have walked out. For future on my visits to Doncaster I shall eat elsewhere. Shame. Customer care has left what was my favourite chippy.

Service fast and efficient despite heavy traffic.

After being overseas for 13 years to my dad in for lunch and the food and level of service was outstanding.

Do not know what has happened to this place but staff very rude A old lady was speaking to me whilst her friend went to loo and a very rude waitress passed by her and said nobody cares love what the hell is it to do with her the old dear was talking to me not her.so if you go their for lunch lookout for the dyed blond with the bad attitude.The atmosphere was very aggressive as plates we slammed onto counters so loud you couldnt have any conversations The elderly lady was stating how she used to visit chippy with her dad when she was a child thankfully she didn't here the comment from the horrible waitress. Will not be returning.

Visited Doncaster went here for lunch.. Service was great and food was well worth it large fish meal with a hot drink would definitely recommend.. Shall be back when we visit
